I thought this was good. The writing flowed well for the most part, but there wasn't really a lead up to what was going on, the reader is put right in the middle of sick horses from the start. It felt like there was part of the story I was missing. Also, I wasn't a fan of all the different POVs in this story. The bad guy gets a couple of spots, and so do a few more secondary characters. I would rather just read from the main characters POV. I did like Audrey and Caleb together, I thought they made a good couple. The had both been through things, and could help each other come to terms with them. The thing with her dad seemed to be resolved way too easily in my opinion. The ending for them was super sweet, and I liked seeing them get their HEA.

Copy kindly received via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I put this one down and picked it back up again quite a few times. The chapters seem to drag on a bit, but at the same time, it's not like the writing style is horrible.

Neither are the characters horrible. I didn't mind Audrey or Caleb, and I certainly liked their family members and friends. Something about this just didn't sit as well as others with me. I couldn't really feel the connection between our main characters, and for the most part I was just really frustrated with them.

I like the idea of the book and the mystery part of it, but also there were things that left me just feeling it was meh.

I liked this book. It wasn't very deep, but it was a good HEA. The bad guys were horrible in deed but not when they were doing their POV. The lack of transition between characters was a little hard sometimes. The story would have been excellent if they could have gotten over their demons and had more of a story between the two main characters instead, we were bombarded with both of their demons of insecurities of being loved and left. I would read more by this author.

Love and dark and broken hero, and I love Donna Grant's steamy cowboy stories, so this one was totally a hit for me. Caleb is smoldering and more then a little heartbreaking, and Aubrey is such a strong character. Together, they were unbeatable. If you have a soft heart towards horses and a need for vengeance, this is the romance and suspense story for you. Another out of the park hit for Donna Grant.

Audrey and Caleb were dynamite together…

These Texas cowboys have been a treat to get to know and Caleb finding his one is my favourite so far! Caleb and his family ran successful ranches with many interests but Caleb loved horses. Training them was what he lived for. Audrey loved horses too – taking care of them, healing them. They fed her soul while helping her forget her loneliness. They had a lot in common including a physical draw that sparked so much more…

“Attracted my a**. I want to climb his hot body, licking my way over his skin as I go…”

This author’s way of words didn’t fail at all in this action-packed, danger-tinged, heated cowboy romance! Caleb was Texas through and through and it showed in the way he loved his family, his life and now, Audrey. Nothing surprised, or scared, him more than how much she came to mean to him in such a short time. Trial by fire? Maybe but his gentleness, and his confusion, was everything…

Audrey was similar in the way she pushed down so much of her emotions and the insecurity and loneliness it brought her. She was strong and successful. She had a much loved sister and her beloved work but even good, there was something missing. And now, she was in danger of losing it all…

With great main characters and already loved supporting family and friends, this was another great read in the series!

This was a really entertaining read but one I do have some remarks on as well.
I loved the settings, and the suspense woven into the story-line.
The set of characters was fun to read about.
I really like the plot of the story and the development of it all.

And as I said: I liked reading about the characters... But the romance between the main characters wasn't always as well written as I would've liked. It sometimes felt a bit too forced, I guess?

Overall it was a fast paced read and I really like the author's writing in general.
This was my first book in the series and I am curious about the stories of the main characters in the first two books so I may go back to this series one day and read the rest of the books as well :)

Thank you net galley for providing me with an arc!

I really enjoyed the book! Caleb and Audrey are so much alike it’s scary. Both swearing off serious commitments but are secretly wanting that fairytale love story. And they are equally too stubborn and prideful for their own good!

I enjoyed the storyline and the mystery was interesting and engaging. I did experience a few hiccups in the story where I felt a few scenes could have been fleshed out more instead of resolving too quickly but that didn’t affect me too much. I’m excited to find out who’s book is next!

My Favorite Cowboy is the third book in Donna Grant's Heart of Texas series, and it's the second title in that series I've read, although I felt that it would worked just fine as a standalone. The series centers around the Harper siblings, and this novel is about the youngest son, Caleb, and it gets 3.5 stars from this reader.

Caleb Harper is a former Green Beret, a handsome hunk of a cowboy, whose mother abandoned her three children after the death of their father, and six-year-old Caleb took it hard. As a result, he has serious abandonment and commitment issues, and unlike his two siblings, has decided to remain single for life, and has become a one-night stand kind of guy, at least that's his life plan until he meets Audrey Martinez, an equine veterinarian, whom he meets while she's trying to figure out what's wrong with 4 horses who've all fallen mysteriously ill at a good friend's auction house.

I love animals and horses are among my favorites, and I will admit to having a hard time dealing with the poor, sick and suffering equines. While Audrey does her best to help them, she comes into contact with Caleb and his brother, Brice, and Caleb is just as taken with Audrey as she is with the handsome cowboy, but Audrey too has commitment issues, but for reasons that are the antithesis of Caleb's. She had a wonderful childhood and her parents adored each other, and having seen and grown up watching that type of deep, committed love, she'll accept nothing less than that from a partner, and she has yet to meet the man who'll fit the bill. When Audrey's mother died, her father went off the deep end, walking away from Audrey and her younger sister, Maddy, and neither has heard from him in over two years. Also, while Audrey and Caleb come from opposite ends of the family and relationship spectrum, they soon realize that they are more alike than not, although both try to fight the growing attraction because of their issues.

The backdrop of the novel is a mystery--when the blood test results comes in for the ailing horses, we learn that the horses have been poisoned, but who would do such a thing and why? There are two criminals who are responsible for carrying out these crimes, but the first attempt to capture them fails, and we learn that they're just the hired evildoers, there's no hint of who's behind the poisoning, or the explosion that destroys the evidence of Audrey's necroscopy on the one horse that died before she could discover what was making them all ill, and then her lab is the next thing targeted for destruction. Who's behind all this chaos, and why? Since there's really only one person mentioned that we don't actually meet until well into this mystery, I didn't have a very difficult time figuring out who was behind these incidents, and when we learn that the culprit is nearly broke, I couldn't help but wonder how the person behind all this was paying the henchman for their services.

While I liked both the hero and heroine, I found their issues and angst about commitment somewhat overwrought and overstated. These two are not teenagers but adults, and the manner in which they seemed unable to communicate their thoughts and feelings beyond their sexual attraction to one another just struck a wrong chord with this reader. They have one wild night together and then spend a lot of time wondering why their bed partner doesn't call, rather than making a phone call and discussing it--it was all just too high school romance for this reader.

While Ms. Grant writes well, and this was a fairly entertaining read, with the expected HEA ending, again, it seemed that both main characters were a tad too juvenile to truly be believable as adults, and the wrap-up at the end seemed rather rushed, tying up all the loose ends at the last minute. It wasn't a bad read, but it wasn't a great one either.

I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.

I like the team up of a veterinarian and a cowboy.

I salute the dedication of Audrey, she is indeed a very loving and caring veterinarian. Her strong will and determination are one of a kind.

Caleb is absolutely a gorgeous and brave cowboy with a military background. I somehow could relate to what happened to Caleb and his mom.

I didn't expect the twists and turns in the story. I truly enjoyed reading this novel.

My Favorite Cowboy (Heart of Texas, Book 3) by Donna Grant was just what I needed after reading a few serious books in a row. The story involves a mystery, but mostly just the two main characters (Caleb & Audrey) being hot for each other and not knowing how to commit beyond a one-night (sizzling) encounter. They both frustrated me with their stubbornness, but it just made the journey more interesting while anticipating what would happen between the two. Not having read the first two books in this series did not affect my understanding or enjoyment of this story.

The first book by Donna Grant I have read. The overwhelming instant concern and involvement Caleb, his brothers, family and friends was a bit unbelievable. Even the mystery is sick and dying horses. I continued reading to just to find out why the horses were sick. Not a book I would yell, you gotta read.

I give this book 5 stars. The storyline between Audrey and Caleb was well written and a great must read book. I whole heartedly recommend this book. I voluntarily reviewed this Advanced Readers Copy of this book.

WOW!! My Favorite Cowboy was amazing! Hands down one of the best books I have read in awhile. From page one, I was hooked. I could not put it down and felt as if I was truly apart of this book. Caleb's story was going to be good, I just knew it. But this was better than good. The twists, turns and excitement that unfolded throughout the book had me on the edge of my seat and cheering for the Harpers and their friends to figure out what was happening. I liked Audrey instantly. She knew what she wanted in life, and went after it and became successful doing it, despite hardships. Her sister Maddy is so much fun (I hope she gets hers own story) The interactions between the sisters had me laughing and cringing at a few moments because it's exactly how my sister and I interact. Thank you, Ms Grant, for a great book. I cannot wait for the next book in this series!

Audrey Martinez is one of the best equine veterinarians in Texas. She has a flawless reputation and is not only a great doctor, but thanks to her love of horses, has a special bond with them. So when a few of her patients start to get mysteriously ill and die all eyes turn to her and she finds that she may lose all that she has worked so hard for.

Unlike his older sister and brother, Caleb Harper has no intention of ever settling down and being with one woman for the rest of his life. That is until he sets his eyes on a stunning veterinarian and soon discovers that someone is out to get her. Along with the help of his brother and powerful brother-in-law, Caleb is determined to get to the bottom of this mystery and find out who is after Audrey and protect her.

While Audrey is fighting against time to save her patients, both she and Caleb discover that they have both found their match and that maybe having one-night-stands isn’t as appealing as it once was.

Another exciting and sensual read by Donna Grant! Not to be missed!

My Favorite Cowboy, indeed!
Two wounded hearts are brought together by jealously that leads to deadly results. Caleb Harper is all charm and sexy smiles on the surface but deep down he carries scars from his mom’s abandonment. Audrey Martinez witnessed her parents’ true love story and the devastation that comes when one partner dies. Thrown together by a dangerous plot to seek revenge against Audrey, they find that they are fighting to not only save Audrey’s beloved horses and her reputation but also to save their one chance a true love.

Grant once again creates an insta love story that has time to develop against the backdrop of danger and intrigue without feeling rushed. She’s also not afraid to tackle deep emotional issues while turning up the suspense.

My Favorite Cowboy is the the third book in Donna Grant’s Heart of Texas series and picks up three years after book tow and fifteen years after book one, so you can easily read it as a stand-alone but I’d recommend reading the series in order as you get to see the Harper family survive and thrive and see Caleb grow up.

I enjoyed this mystery/western/romance so much. It had so many elements to it that gave my multi-genre loving mind lots to absorb. Even though I was able to figure out the whoduit, it took me nearly the whole book to do it so that’s good. The Harper family was close and it showed in their actions. Once they liked you, you became part of the their circle, whether you wanted to be or not. LOL, I always love when families adopt people in. Like, “You are a good egg, not too many around here, I’m going to keep you.” It was super cute.

The characters were well developed and had lots of dimension. Audrey and Caleb’s attraction was instant and intense. The chemistry was great, I was a bit worried for am minute because Caleb seemed to resist to hard but it all worked out for me in the end.

You don’t need to read the other books in this series first, I didn’t but I’m sure it was enhance the story if only for the side characters in this. I’d read more from this author.

Not quite convincing. I tried to like this book more than 3 stars worth, but it just didn't get there for me on a number of levels. I found the love scenes contrived and the language to describe the sex somewhat ridiculous. The characters were good as outlines but not fleshed out enough and they fall in "love" without there being any apparent reason for it. I love horses and was excited about their involvement in the story, but it didn't seem to me that the author was very knowledgeable about them and the writing about them was disappointingly unimaginative and repetitive. I also thought the mystery had a lot of holes. I did read through to the end but it was an effort. Sorry, only a 3 star rating for this one from me.

Donna Grant has always been one of my top favorite authors who is an expert writing paranormal as well as contemporary romance without missing a beat!

"My Favorite Cowboy" is another great testimony to her writing prowess as she brings veterinarian Audrey Martinez and army cowboy Caleb Harper together as they try to figure out a criminal horseplay in action and also fight the sparks of attraction ignited in their hearts.

A captivating story of romance and passion, danger and betrayal, "My Favorite Cowboy", will soon become one of Donna Grant's best works.

This is the third book in the series by this author, and I’ve read the rest of the series also. I had previously thought that this was a trilogy, but turns out there is a 4th book coming out later this year! I liked the premise behind this series, but put into practice so far I haven’t loved the series. This book specifically I had trouble with. I found the characters to be a bit naive in their relationships and the way the relationships developed felt a bit too simple to me. The plot line was intended I’m sure to build up tension and build to the crux of the plot, but the pieces almost felt like they didn’t fit together to me. If you like cowboy romances, I’d say this one was ok but wasn’t my favorite.

This book was definitely a quick and easy read, with an intriguing storyline. I did expect a little more of a climatic culmination at the end, but it was still good. I liked the two main characters, Audrey and Caleb. They are much alike and they share the same passion for horses. Audrey is easy going, dedicated and an equine veterinarian extraordinaire. Her job allows her to work for free at a horse rescue center, to tend to abused horses. Caleb is a skilled horse trainer with a military background and a confirmed bachelor. Both of them are independently strong willed and when they team up to investigate a crime, they really are a good match. The banter between them was great.

There is an instant attraction, but they both shun relationships. Caleb has carried a lot of anger and bitterness for years and has abandonment issues. He would rather be alone than deal with the fear of someone leaving him. It took him a while to come to terms with his feelings. Together, Audrey and Caleb make perfect sense as a couple when they finally give in to their mutual attraction.

This book was my first read in the Heart of Texas series and it can be read as a standalone. 3.5 stars
