Book synopsis
Audrey Martinez is a veterinarian who has devoted her whole life to the care and protection of horses—even if doing so leaves her little time for meeting a man. Who would have thought that a strange case of criminal horseplay would lead her to falling deeply, wildly in love? If only the man who makes her heart race faster than a wild mustang would let his guard down, that is. . .
Caleb Harper is no ordinary cowboy. Sure, he wears his hat, boots, and jeans like a second skin, and displays an easygoing charm that comes from years of working on the ranch. But with his military background, and Army buddies at his side, he is tried-and-true Texas tough. Audrey knows she can trust a man like Caleb to help her save horses. But can Caleb trust himself to resist his attraction to Audrey—or will the sparks of their desire end up getting them burned?
My thoughts:
Rating:5
Would I recommend it ?yes
Would I read the rest of this series? Yes
Would I read any thing else by this author :yes
This is the first book by her I've ever read and I can see why people love her books , the story is so easy to get lost in and the romance is slow going but not slow that you lose interest of the story , its like you can feel the attraction between Audery and Caleb . And the family dramatic is great to, the interaction is what brought the story to life for me besides the romance that is, love how Caleb and Audery brought out the best in each other and how well they seemed to fit from the very start, the one part I kind of did like is when the horses was sick and hurting but then again horses are one of my favorite animals .But the more I read , the more I could understand why those parts was in the book and they worked to bring the story more to life ,as well as help bring the characters to life . Its more than a romance its about friends and family coming together and helping . So with that said I want to thank Netgalley for letting me read and review it exchange for my honest opinion .
Mystery, intrigue, sick horses, sexy cowboys and an interesting heroine make for a wonderful story I could not put down. Perfect title for a perfect, sexy, sweet, and strong heartthrob of a cowboy. He will solve a mystery and melt your heart all at the same time making you unable to put the book down because you want Audrey to break through his abandonment issues to bring him true love, something he did not even know he even wanted. It is amazing these two characters are able to forgive their parents and finally move on. This is a great series by Donna Grant. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Audrey Martinez is considered the best equine veterinarian on her county. She is loved by everyone.....except the person who is trying to destroy her livelihood, her reputation, and possibly, her very life.
Every since his mom walked out when he was a child, Caleb Harper has kept women at arms length - good for bedding but not much else. Until he steps in to help Audrey figure out who's causing her trouble. Watching after her has brought them close together and he finds himself seriously liking her. Will he be able to hold onto his long-held beliefs while still trying to keep Audrey safe? Or will Audrey be able to break through his defenses....especially when she has some defensive walls herself. It'll take all their efforts, combined with their friends and families, to get to the bottom of this mystery and put an end to the danger surrounding Audrey.
Kudos to Ms. Grant for a great book that had interesting characters, danger, heat, and smexy-times. It definitely kept me entertained from the first page to the last (even when I wanted to knock some sense into the heads of a couple of those characters).
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias.
I really enjoyed this book. A little bit of suspense, some beautiful animals, some twists and turns, and the love that exists only in fairytales. What more could you want? Donna Grant has written the series so they can be read as standalones, even though they are all interconnected as a series. If you are in the mood for an old-fashioned cowboy romance with a kick hiney heroine, look no further. Enjoy your one click!
This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.
What a great romance along with the drama and intrigue of who is trying to kill the horses and the reason behind it.
Caleb and Audrey were more alike than they knew as both had a parent who left them. This deeply scarred them for future relationships. It was so sad when Caleb gets a taste of what the women he leaves felt, when Audrey cannot commit.
When the group finally figures out the "why" of the poisonings, the culprit is kind of obvious to the reader.
I sure hope that there will be more books in this series as we still have Maddy, Cooper and Jace to find their loves! I had not read the previous books but I really am intrigued by this family and will have to how this series started!!
3.5 stars--MY FAVORITE COWBOY is the third instalment in Donna Grant’s contemporary, adult HEART OF TEXAS erotic, romance series. This is rancher and former Green Beret Caleb Harper and veterinarian Audrey Martinez’ story line. MY FAVORITE COWBOY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary.
Told from several third person perspectives including Caleb and Audrey MY FAVORITE COWBOY follows the building relationship between rancher and former Green Beret Caleb Harper and veterinarian Audrey Martinez. Audrey Martinez struggles to identify the recent illness of several horses, unexplained and strange illnesses that point to a potential crime of poisoning. An attack against Audrey’s sister Maddy leaves our heroine vulnerable and alone forcing neighbour and rancher Caleb Harper, and his former army buddies to make it their responsibility to protect the woman with whom Caleb will fall in love. What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Caleb and Audrey, and the potential fall-out as Audrey is targeted by someone from her past, and Caleb is unable to accept the woman in his life.
Caleb Harper knows rejection first hand, and in this our hero is unable to let go of the past. Falling for Audrey Martinez meant falling for someone who could break his heart someone he was about to push out of his life. Audrey Martinez, along with her sister Audrey know love and loss first hand following the death of their mother, and the subsequent disappearance of their grieving father. Meeting Caleb Harper gave Audrey a chance at her own happily ever after, a happily ever after threatened by someone from her past.
The relationship between Audrey and Caleb is one of immediate attraction but Audrey is struggling to uncover the truth behind the recent series of equine illness, and the attack against her sister meant to send a message regarding Audrey’s investigation. Caleb refuses to leave Audrey to fend for herself but miscommunication and memories from the past begin to interfere in their growing love. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful secondary and supporting characters including Audrey’s sister Maddy; Clayton and Abby Harper (The Christmas Cowboy Hero #1), Naomi and Brice Harper (Cowboy, Cross my Heart #2), Brice and Caleb’s friends Jace Wilder, and Cooper Owens; and local sheriff Danny Oldman. The requisite evil has many faces.
MY FAVORITE COWBOY is a story of family, friendship, vengeance, suspense and love. The premise is intriguing; the romance is seductive; the characters are energetic, strong-willed and dynamic but both struggle with issues from the past. I did have a couple of problems accepting the reasons behind the attacks against Audrey, her sister, and the horses-motivations that seemingly come out of nowhere; as well as both family histories resolving in the same story line, resolutions that are too quick and convenient.

After reading Brice's story, I was eager to read Caleb's story, and this one didn't disappoint!
Caleb was a wonderful tortured hero! I loved how he protected Audrey, even from himself! I especially loved how he had to work through his issues with his mother, but couldn't do so without Audrey! Audrey was a great heroine as well! I loved how caring she was, even with everything besetting her and her career. Both characters were extremely realistic to me, and were easy to connect with as well!
I especially loved the suspense plot, and the twists and turns it took! The villain was a real surprise to me, I did not see it coming! I also loved the teases we got of Jase and Cooper...I can so see them getting their own series!
All things considered, this is a great read that I can highly recommend!
3 stars
This book is the 3rd in a series about the Harper siblings; in this case, the main subject is the youngest one - Caleb. The three sibs were abandoned by their mother as children, and while all struggled mightily as a result, Caleb took it the hardest of the trio. Because of this, Caleb has always had a fear of commitment as he is afraid that if he opens his heart to someone, they will leave him; thus, he has always been a love 'em and leave 'em guy when it comes to romantic involvements. Audrey Martinez is the best equine veterinarian around which was her very purposeful goal since she was a child. She remained so focused on her career goals that she had little time for relationships and preferred casual encounters when she did entertain the idea of spending time with men. When Audrey's mother passed away suddenly, she was devastated. When her father disappeared soon after his soul mate's death, she was heartbroken. While she envied her parents' very strong, lasting, and loving bond, she had yet to find anyone that inspired those feelings in her. When a beloved auction house owner's horses fall ill under mysterious circumstances, both Audrey and Caleb agree to help get to the bottom of the matter. Doing so not only throws them together where sparks fly out of control; it also puts them in the line of danger. Will they be able to open their hearts to each other, and if so, will they survive the threat that might tear them apart permanently?
What I liked about this book:
--- Solid plot line that held my interest for the most part
--- The main characters were likeable
--- Quick-moving read with a good flow
What I didn't like as much:
--- While there was some suspense and mystery, the villain was pretty obvious once that character was introduced --- I like a little more "who-done-it" development in the story
--- The commitment issues felt overplayed, especially since both of them had deep-rooted aversions, so it started to feel contrived verses organic as the book went on
--- Only one steamy goodness scene; didn't satisfy my preferences there
--- It felt like the author tried to cram too many HEA moments in there, and some of them played out too quickly with unsatisfying explanations
Overall, this was a good read. While references are made re the previous books in the series, it can standalone (I haven't read the previous books, but I never felt lost or that I missed out on anything critical to this story). If you like a slow burn and plenty of angst in your romance novels, this one delivers those for sure.
Plot --- 3/5
Main Characters --- 4/5
Supporting Cast --- 3.5/5
Violence --- nothing gory
Language --- nothing gory
Steam Level --- 2/5
POV --- 3rd
Audrey is a vet and works mostly with horses. She is the best in her area and everyone likes her. But she is supposed to work exclusively for 2 ranches and she does volunteer for horses that are abused and rescued.
Caleb is a rancher and has a military background. These 2 meet when she is called to a friend's horse auction as a couple of horses are really sick and she is trying to figure out why and what is wrong with them. Seems that no matter what she does, someone is out to get the horse, the auction house or her.
The friendships that formed in this book were quick and seem to be lifelong. You meet Caleb's family as well. Also both of them have family issues going on that they help each other out with.
I did not read the other 2 books in this series but I do plan on reading them.
I do not often read this genre by this author so right off this was different for me. Cowboys can tug on the heart cause they give their all. Caleb also happens to be more than a cowboy with military in the background also which grabbed my attention. Audrey is more than his match I say in this one with her having a heart for saving. Suspense is also part of this with adding it all up made for riveting reading.
Caleb Harper is the baby of the family. His mom walking out on him and his siblings when he was just 6 left a last mark on him and he can't see himself ever settling down and making a commitment to one woman. A former Green Beret, turned full time rancher he's a walking success story. Audrey Martinez is a highly sought after equine veterinarian. When she gets called to help out a old friend with sick horses at his auction house her life might never be the same. Someone is trying to kill horses or is someone after her. On their own Abby the oldest took care of her younger brothers. Both Abby and Brice have found love but Caleb insists it's not for him but the more time he spends with Audrey the harder it gets for him to stick to that. I love how this family sticks together and along the way in the series they've picked up more family and friends. This is a very fast paced book. Right from the first chapter things get intense and move along quickly. I can't wait to see what happens next in the series.

OMG! This book! It was fantastic!
I loved how the author managed the tension until the very last moment, how she developed characters so broken yet so lovable, and also how she made them fit together. The rhythm of the narration was fluid, and the story was so well constructed that once I started, I couldn't stop reading.
My Favorite Cowboy is part of a series, but I didn't felt like I missed something in this story in particular, so you can read it as a standalone.
From a strong sense of family that helped heal broken pasts through danger, jealousy, to a very emotional ending, I loved this story, and it kept me turning pages. Audrey was focused, smart, and independent. Caleb was kind, protective, and wised up to the fact that he was not alone when dealing with his past. Together, Audrey and Caleb felt right and found a sense of belonging. I highly recommend this story.
I received an ARC through Netgalley, and this is my unsolicited review.
I really liked this read. Caleb and Audrey have great chemistry and their characters have lots of depth. The story is fast-paced with plenty of steam and emotion. Lots of twists and turns keep you hooked from beginning to end. A Sweet Read.
Donna Grant is a new author to me and I totally enjoyed reading “My Favorite Cowboy.”
This book is the third in a series which was something I didn’t realize until I started reading the book. But, I have to say, you can read this book as a stand-alone with no difficulty. Though I do plan on reading the first two books in the series!
This book was full of suspense and intrigue with mystery and romance thrown in. The two main characters are Audrey and Caleb which is where the romance factor comes in. Suspense and mystery revolve around Audrey as she uncovers something happening to horses under her care as a vet.
If you enjoy a cowboy romance, you will definitely like this book.
I voluntarily read this arc with many thanks to NetGallery, the publisher and author for this opportunity.
Another suspenseful contemporary western romance from the Heart of Texas series brings us the last single Harper sibling, Caleb front and center. Caleb has been the most adamant about never putting his heart on the line after his mother abandoned him and his older siblings, but he has met his match in a woman driven by her work with horses and equally determined to stay detached after her mother died and her dad walked away. With a person in the shadows determined to bring the beautiful vet down and their own sizzling attraction, I was all in to see how this pair of resistant lovers got on.
Review
My Favorite Cowboy is book three and tells a standalone plot though the familial story builds from one book to the next. First there was Abby, then Brice, and now Caleb. This may be the last, but I’m holding out for Cooper and Jase to eventually get their stories.
Audrey Martinez has worked hard and is known as the best vet in the area so that she has the luxury of picking her clients out of the big local ranches. But, her heart is for her horse patients and her old family friend has horses mysteriously falling ill. It is while she races to save her patients that she encounters Caleb and his family who are also out to help David. It isn’t long before other mysterious incidents lead everyone to wonder if David is the real target or is it Audrey. Meanwhile, the attraction between Audrey and Caleb turns sizzling and this pair of people terrified of real intimacy and relationships need to decide if a chance at happiness is worth reaching for.
I have come to really enjoy this series. I think Abby and Clayton’s story in The Christmas Cowboy Hero will always be my favorite, but that doesn’t take away from how much I have enjoyed Brice and Naomi and now Caleb and Audrey’s stories. A parent abandoning her children had far reaching effects, but the three Harpers learned to be for each other and embrace others into a growing and strong family of their own. That has become clear as the series progressed.
I’ve also enjoyed the ranch setting and the new elements added with Audrey’s veterinary care of the horses and Caleb’s gentling and training of horses. The suspense element took a while to develop and was strong, but took back seat to the personal growth and romance.
The romance was paced out over the distance of the book. Attraction was there from the beginning including some fun banter, but the pair of them fought their feelings and came to their own separate crisis moments where they had to confront their own fears. Caleb’s is obvious and there all along, but Audrey doesn’t figure out that she is as resistant as Caleb for similar reasons until later. They do belong together and it is obvious to all around them and even to each other. Their eventual coming together is scorching hot and they both are confident, adventuresome lovers. Whew, yeah!
All in all, it was another strong and fabulous installment in the series. As I said before, I’m not sure if this is the finale. I would love to get those last two single cowboys’ stories… just saying. Those who enjoy spicy contemporary western romance with a strong family and suspense element should give this series a whirl.
Two people fully committed to their jobs who have no time for romance begin to fall for each other when danger appears close to them. I have a love hate relationship, bit this book certainly lands in the love side of that relationship. I liked how dedicated each character was to their job and the danger aspect gave this romance story an added extra that i rarely see in other cowboy romances. A engaging story and i really enjoyed it, Donna Grant has a writing style that is easy to read and helps the story to flow well which is always a delight to experience as it helps the reader get fully engaged in the story and characters

My Favorite Cowboy is book 3 in the Heart of Texas series by Donna Grant and a great addition to this series.
Audrey Martinez, equine veterinarian is well known, sought after and donates her spare time to help her friend with rescued horses. While helping the rescue she runs across some very sick horses and during her checks it looks like some foul play is happening maybe involved drugs to destroy them. She and her friend enlist the help of Caleb, his brother and his brother in law who being military and ways to search for answers. When Caleb and Audrey meet the sparks fly but both have really high walls built and neither is willing to let them fall...what happens next will keep you on the edge of your seat, to find answers, open up their hearts and maybe find that they truly do belong together....
This is book 3 in the Heart of Texas series. This is the first book in the series that I have read so it can easily by read as a stand-alone book. This is Caleb and Audrey’s story. Audrey is a veterinarian who loves and cares for horses. She has no time for a man. Until the horses start having a problem. Now she must put up with Caleb but that could be a good thing. I really enjoyed this story. There’s all the suspense and mystery that you could ask for, then you add in a cowboy. You know that’s going to be a good story. I couldn’t pick out the villain until the very last and that was a bit of a surprise. You stay hooked on the story that’s happening from the very beginning. I’m going to go back and get the first two books so that I know the whole background of Caleb’s family. They sound just as interesting as this story. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book that I received from Netgalley.
4 star
I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, struggles, and heartbreak.
This is Audrey and Caleb’s story. Caleb is a cowboy but he is also army tough. He works on his ranch with his former army buddies at his side. Audrey is a veterinarian whose life has been about caring and protecting horses. But when she is involved in a case about criminal horseplay she needs help. Caleb is willing to help but not willing to drop his guard and get involved with Audrey. The chemistry is there but he is fighting it. Can she ever get him to drop his guard or will he resist the attraction and push her as fall away as he can?
I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
I recommend this book.
