I really, really enjoyed this book. It is a cowboy romantic suspense. This is the story of Audrey, a veterinarian, and Caleb, a former military guy turned rancher. Ms. Grant pulled me in from the start with the mystery of what was wrong with the horses Audrey was providing care for and finished me off with the romance between her and Caleb.
Not only were Audrey and Caleb's characters easy to get into, but the secondary characters were as well. We already met Caleb's brother and sister in previous books and the interesting family dynamics continue. Audrey's sister also played a part and was a real dynamo.
The story contained family, suspense, romance, danger and emotional and physical trauma as well. Caleb's mother had walked out on the family when he was quite small. It scarred him for life and left him determined that love was never going to be something that would hit him again. His feelings for Audrey might interfere with that. Can he turn his life around enough that he stops running every woman off--including Audrey?
This was a very good, fast paced book that held my interest from start to finish!
I received a copy of this book via NetGalley. All thoughts are my own.
I devoured this book in one day. I couldn't put the book down. Donna Grant did an outstanding job with drawing her readers into the story. Not only is story action packed. It is balanced between the suspense and romance.
Caleb and Audrey's story is intense, heartwarming and heartfelt.
Their chemistry can light up a fire pit all by itself.
I'm looking forward to reading more books from Donna Grant.
I highly recommend reading this book.
MY FAVORITE COWBOY by Donna Grant is a romance that packs a punch with an edge of suspense running throughout that really hooked me as a reader and held my attention from start to finish.
Caleb Harper knows what is like to be abandoned by someone who should love you no matter what so he has shut himself off from the possibility of love - it just isn't worth it. When he is called in to check out some possible foul play happening to some local horses, he didn't expect to meet Audrey Martinez, a vet who treats her animals with a loving care above and beyond the norm. Together they must work out just who exactly is behind this mistreatment and why, but can they ignore the sizzling tension that sparks between them the more time they spend together?
While MY FAVORITE COWBOY is the third book in this series, it can easily be read as a standalone and you will soon get to know the secondary characters from the former books. There is passion, friendship, high emotions and more, all bursting at the seams to be read in this story and I found it highly entertaining.
MY FAVORITE COWBOY by Donna Grant is a great story with loveable characters and I highly recommend it to contemporary fiction and romance fans alike.
My first Donna Grant read and I've got to say I enjoyed myself.
I really liked how their relationship progressed. The clearly both have issues that run deep and that caused some problems but it was such a pleasure to see them working through it in order to be happy together. I liked the chemistry between the main MC's. But what I loved the most about this story was it's action packed drama that I'm not used to seeing when reading about cowboys.
I definitely need to find time to read book 1&2 ASAP.

Loved the story and this series! This book took you on an emotional roller coaster- it had me tearing up at times and sometimes it was so steamy between Caleb and Audrey. The story was so captivating it kept me engrossed until the last page. Caleb distrusts women in general because of his mom leaving when he was a child. He has a meaningless hook ups until Audrey, is she the one that will make him change his ways? Audrey is very goal oriented and doesn’t have time for a man in her life. When they meet under stressful circumstances they are immediately drawn to each other. Will they allow themselves to love and be loved? I can’t wait for the next installment of this series!!
The story of Audrey and Caleb - along with a mystery of who is harming the horses. Neither of them is looking for love or anything long term, but when they meet they are drawn to each other.
First book I have read in this series, but looking forward to reading the others now.

This is the book of the youngest Harper sibling. And man! When Ms. Grants contemporary you will be shocked. It is really different from her PNR books. There is a certain degree of words, of the over all effect when she writes on this genra.
I love how this book was written, and how each of the previous people on the last book added an element to it.
We can understand where Caleb is coming from, at the same time, there is the weight of Audrey's problem. Two wounded people, and look at the outcome?
A beautiful book that makes us realize that no matter the hurt a person cause, we should forgive them. It will take a while, but the result is phenomenal.
I do not know if this is the last book of the series, but I do hope, Jase and Copper? will have their own HEA.
I did not want to put this down once I started reading it. Another fantastic book in this series. It takes a LOT and I mean a lot for both Audrey and Caleb to get over their pasts and find love. In the end it is all worth it. You can read this as a stand alone but I wouldn't recommend it as the other books are so good. Caleb helps Aubrey when someone is out to hurt her and things spiral from there. One of things I love about these books is seeing everyone come together to help. You always get a glimpse of what is going on in everyone's life because they are always around to help.

Caleb’s story has arrived! Donna Grant does it again – this book is just as fantastic as the other two siblings’ books. The first book of the series, The Christmas Cowboy Hero, tells big sister, Abby’s, story; the second book of the series, Cowboy, Cross My Heart, tells the middle child, Brice’s, story and then here in book three, My Favorite Cowboy, tells the youngest sibling, Caleb’s story. Each book holds a good deal of emotional turmoil, drama, suspense and romance as each of the siblings work to overcome their deep-rooted childhood abandonment issues and the emotional repercussions that progressed all the way into their adult lives with relationships. The three are extremely close and help each other through everything, as well as their close friends Jace and Cooper; who are actually more like brothers than just friends. It would be awesome to see each of them have their own story, as well. Also, Audrey’s younger sister, Maddy; it would be great to see her have a happy ending too. There is a great amount of suspense and mystery in this read surrounding Audrey and what is happening to the horses, as well as emotional conflict and reflection for Audrey and Caleb due to their pasts and including finding answers in relation to the horses and protection for Audrey. The two have a lot to deal with and sort out before they can even sort through their feeling for each other and a possible future. There are also a few surprises thrown into the mix, happy and sad, that adds to the complexity of the storyline. All the characters are strong, likeable and relatable and the plot is engaging, making the book hard to put down. Grant definitely pulls out all the stops on this one for emotional drama ‘cause it will grab hold until the end. You can tell from the first meeting that Caleb and Audrey are immediately drawn to each other and the more they connect you can tell they belong together, but there are several obstacles that have to be overcome first, professionally and personally, in order for that to occur. They both have issues to resolve within themselves and need to let go of the past in order to make way for a promising future. Mistakes are made, misunderstandings occur and communication halts, but what would a good cowboy romance be without the conflict and emotional journey to a happy ending? Each of the three books in the Heart of Texas series can be read as standalone but would be much better read in order to enjoy the entire family dynamics and overlapping storyline in the background catching up with the other characters in the book. There is also a nice short epilogue that jumps six months ahead to give a glimpse into their future. My Favorite Cowboy was a great read and addition to the series. *I received an advanced copy thru Netgalley and am providing my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Audrey Martinez is known as the best equine veterinarian because of her dedication and love of horses and is the vet for two ranches, as well as, does voluntary work. This is one of those times as she is trying to save three sick horses at the auction house. She is working hard to figure out what made the horses sick. Now it is realized they were poisoned but as she tries to figure out what the poison is before it is too late, others are working hard for her not to find her answers. Who are they after; the auction house, David the owner, or her and why. Caleb Harper ends up getting involved. He not only is a rancher, he also has military background and brings in his friends to help with the horses as well as protect Audrey and her sister Maddy. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
‘My Favorite Cowboy’ is about the youngest Harper brother Caleb. Caleb is a handsome cowboy who’s past made him into a ‘new-woman-every-day’ kind of man. Caleb doesn’t believe he is someone worthy of love, and he has made his peace with it. He loves working on his ranch, and he loves his family. What more does he need? So when Caleb meets Audrey, a veterinarian, for the first time he is shocked to find himself wanting to be with her all the time. Especially since Audrey seems to be in danger. But Audrey had her own problems, and she has never opened her heart to a guy. But after looking at the handsome cowboy she finds herself wanting everything with him.
I enjoyed the second book in this series, but this third book I loved. From the moment I started reading I just completely loved Caleb and Audrey. Audrey is this hardworking woman who made a great life for herself. She studied hard and worked hard to become the best. And she lives for her work. I really liked Audrey’s character right from the beginning. She is tough, and passionate about what she does. She was definitely easy to like. And Caleb… Handsome, hardworking and he would do anything for the people he loves. Yes, I definitely loved him too.
The romance in this book was great. A little predictable, yes. But also just butterflies in your stomach good. I loved how Caleb and Audrey struggled with their instant intense attraction to one another. They where just so good together. But they both had a lot of insecurities and issues to get through. It was definitely to read about these too.
The suspense in this book was also pretty good. It kept me hooked and wanting to keep on reading. Someone was hurting these horses, and Audrey was determined to find out who and what they where hurting these horses with. It definitely kept me sitting on the edge of my seat. Just as with the previous book, I found the suspense part of this book coming to a bit of an abrupt end.. But it sure was good.
‘My Favorite Cowboy’ was definitely a great read. I just loved it from the beginning till the end.
the heart of texas series possibly concludes with caleb harper's story—though i wouldn't be surprised if jace and cooper didn't get spin-off stories of their own—so don't quote me on the concluding thing. my favorite cowboy finds commitment-phobic caleb entangled with equally commitment-phobic audrey martínez.
thrust together when horses suddenly turn up sick, it quickly becomes clear that they are being poisoned and that audrey is the real target. as the premier equine vet in the area, it seems as if someone is out to destroy her reputation and her livelihood.
caleb's protective instincts go on overdrive, and soon he finds himself breaking all kinds of rules in order to get close to the horse doctor.
when caleb's past comes calling in the form of his deadbeat mother and audrey's insecurities about committing to anyone rise to the surface they both find themselves facing their pasts. but the promise of real happiness has them slaying those demons in perfect romance book fashion.
**my favorite cowboy will publish on february 26, 2019. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/st. martin's press in exchange for my honest review.

I've been reading Donna Grant for a year, maybe more now, and she's never ceased to capture me with her stories. My Favorite Cowboy is a Contemporary Romance that has a touch of suspense. It is part of a series but it's not necessary to have read the others before reading this one. It features Audrey, an equine vet; and Caleb, a local cowboy who's former military.
I enjoyed reading how these two characters work together under pressure to solve who's harming the horses in Audrey's family friend stables. There's major chemistry between Audrey and Caleb and as a reader I couldn't wait to see the combustion!
If you're not a paranormal reader, Author Donna Grant offers you a way to read her writing by these contemporary cowboy romances. They won't bore you and you'll be rooting for the characters to get their HEA at the end. Ms. Grant doesn't tend to let her readers down. I hope you enjoy!
Audrey Martinez has always loved horses and is one of the areas most-requested vets. When a few horses fall ill, she's called in by a family friend to help, but when accidents start happening, it becomes clear that someone isn't just after the animals. Caleb Harper and his brother are asked to help protect Audrey and the ranch, but the threat is closer than any of them realize, along with suprises they don't see coming.
I truly enjoyed this book and the adventure it takes you on. Romance at it's finest, while making your heart swoon over the animals. A terrific read!
Audrey and Caleb’s suspenseful love story in My Favorite Cowboy by Donna Grant, book three in her Heart of Texas series, was truly enjoyable. Equine veterinarian Audrey spent her life devoted to the care and protection of horses, leaving her no time for meeting a man. She was a commitment-phobe, never allowing any relationship to form, let alone last. Caleb might look like a cowboy and act like a cowboy but his military training has made him one tough Texan. When horses are suddenly being poisoned and Audrey becomes a suspect, Caleb knows she needs protection and help finding the person out to get Audrey. Audrey and Caleb have an out of this world connection; with sparks singing those in their path. Audrey and Caleb have walls surrounding their hearts, not trusting very easily. These two come across as unloved as well as unable to love, anyone they are not related to by blood. As can happen, two battered hearts not only can find comfort with each other but also heal within each other’s arms.
Ms. Grant wrote an amazing, steamy, suspenseful and emotional story that is not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with sizzling chemistry, amusing banter, scary situations, and endearing characters, giving Audrey and Caleb a chance at having a true love. I highly recommend My Favorite Cowboy to other readers.

I surely love me some Texas cowboys. I can not tell you why but for some reason I have been on a huge cowboy binge lately. There is just something about a good-hearted and hard-working man who knows how treat his woman that just gets to me. And let me tell you, if cowboys are your thing - Donna Grant knows how to deliver and you need to look no further than the Heart of Texas series.
If you’ve read the previous books, then you’ve already met Caleb. If you haven’t - that’s ok too - My Favorite Cowboy can absolutely be read as a standalone. However, you would be missing out on some of the family dynamics that come into play for our hero, Caleb. You’ll also might get a better understanding for Caleb’s character as well if you read at least Cowboy, Cross My Heart before diving into My Favorite Cowboy.
Now I was already in love with Caleb going into My Favorite Cowboy, but I was immediately captivated by Audrey as well. I love strong independent heroines who are tough as nails and can handle anything that is thrown at them. But they’re also ok to let their guy take care of them too.
I love a book with a little bit of suspense to it as well. Someone is poisoning horses and it out to frame Audrey, a vet, for it. This is how Audrey meets Caleb as he, his brother and the rest of their crew set out to help Audrey and the horses.
The instant connection between the characters hooks you right in and I was sitting at the edge of my seat as to what was going to happen next!
My Favorite Cowboy is a combination of romance and suspense, and I have to say that I enjoyed the suspense more than the instalove cowboy romance - at least until the rather rushed conclusion and caricature-like villain. Instalove aside, the romance isn't bad, it's just that there's really nothing new here. It runs the typical cowboy romance formula with no real surprises. I will add that I feel like I would've enjoyed it more had the relationship developed more naturally instead of moving at such a rapid-fire pace. So, for me, the story wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either, leaving me somewhere in the middle of road. This is part of a series, but can be read as a standalone.
My Favorite Cowboy
Oh man. I really liked this book. I was wondering what type of woman was going to tame the youngest wild Harper.
I love that we had got to see Caleb as a 6 year old in the first book in this series. All of the siblings were affected by their mother leaving and I think Caleb had it the worst.
Now Caleb is grown up and helping his brother Brice run their ranch. He’s never been interested in a woman more than a night and until he meets Aubrey.
Aubrey has her own emotional hang ups and I like that Grant flipped the script and had Aubrey’s past scorned lover be the reason for the nefarious plot twists.
That being said, I thought it was pretty easy to figure out whodoneit but I still found the book highly enjoyable.
I can only hope that the series continues and Jace, Cooper And Maddy get their own books. Especially Jace.
Wonderful book. I highly recommended any of Donna Grants books.
I received this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
Donna Grant’s writing shows a freshness to it with My Favorite Cowboy, book 3 of the Heart of Texas series. The story is complete with no cliffhanger and is certainly able to be read as a stand-alone. It has such an interesting personal-to-the-characters-only plot that it is different from the save the world books that she is so good at writing. Well-done and page turning, the suspense builds with every new dreadful incident. It is without a doubt, all about the story; the romance is simply a part of it.
Veterinarian Audrey Martinez has come up against a quandary with sick horses but no real idea why. The mystery continues as Caleb Harper is brought into the story. While there is romance in the story, solving and stopping the sinister actions of others is a moving force of the story. With so much in the news of people going on the rampage, the villain is genuinely scary real.
This is my first book by this author. I didn’t know that this was the third book in the series. The good thing was I didn’t feel lost or anything with the past characters in it. It did however take me a few days to get through this one. Some of the chapters were dragging on and on for me, I found myself skimming and putting it down. There was just so much about the horses. I realize it’s a whole mystery on “who done it” about them, but there was just so much in the beginning that it was bogging down the flow of the story. This one was a meh for me.
