Book three in the Heart of Texas series, My Favorite Cowboy, is about veterinarian Aubrey and Caleb(one of the teenage brothers we met in The Christmas Cowboy Hero) all grown up. Wonderfully written with a good story and engaging characters. My Favorite Cowboy is well worth the read and one I will be recommending to others
I love Donna Grant! Caleb’s story was sweet, sexy, and fun. I enjoyed the mystery, but also the characters personal growth. I would definitely recommend this book to friends and romance readers everywhere.
"Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review."
Loved this book very much. It had just enough sweet, sexy romance and the storyline was great! I highly recommend!
Compelling suspense story with a great romance. Audrey has worked hard to be one of the best equine vets and when she is called in to help some sick horses, she is puzzled as to what the problem is. This begins the journey into this mystery. Caleb loves horses and has worked hard with his brother to build their own ranch. He doesn’t do relationships, suffering from abandonment issues. When he meets Audrey, he is drawn to her passion and compassion she has for horses. As they both become involved in the mystery surrounding the horses, they find that they have several things in common. Audrey has struggled with relationships, always putting her work first. Will these two lonely hearts find a path to love together? I was pulled into this love story and really enjoyed the underlying mystery that surprised me with its twists and turns. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
Don't let this title fool you, this book is a well written mystery romance and more. There are cowboys and lawmen, horses and family drama.
I found this title to not suit the book at all.
I really enjoyed the previous book in this series and figured I would likely enjoy this one as well, and I sure did. I love a book that can keep me guessing on who the bad guy is.
Right off the bat, there’s drama, mystery and excitement. And to top that all off, the chemistry between Caleb and Audrey is off the charts. They spend the better part of the book dancing around each other. Both have their own past personal issues that keep them apart.
By the time you’re done, you won’t know which end is up. 5 stars!
This book is quite thrilling with the right balance of romance and mystery
Caleb is the younger of two Harper brothers. Due to the way, his mother left, he has vowed not to fall in love and never to marry. He isn't short of admirers and makes the most of his situation.
Audrey is a respected and popular veterinarian. Although she has paid employment, she dedicates her free time to the animal shelter.
There is a crisis on one of the horse farms and Audrey is called upon to help find the source of the problem. Caleb and his brother Brice become involved. They are trusted by the community. Upon closer scrutiny, it becomes obvious that someone is out to get Audrey. Her reputation and even her life are at stake!
Audrey identifies the source of the problem, but then more complications arise. Whilst trying to solve this problem, Audrey comes to meet Caleb who is intrigued by her. He feels very protective towards her and before long, they become romantically involved, but Caleb won't budge on his decision of staying a bachelor. Will Audrey change his mind?
This romantic thriller is quite entrancing. It keeps one in suspense as to who the culprit is. The nature of the one after Audrey doesn't come as a complete surprise, but the reasons why are rather astonishing. I expected more to Caleb's story, but what is divulged is enough to make for an interesting read. It has a little bit of e everything. Suspense. Mystery. Murder and romance.
I was kindly issued with an eARC and the views expressed are my personal opinion.
I have really enjoyed all the books in this series! I am hoping there are more coming. This book started out amazing & was keeping me on edge, right up until the ending. The ending was a little too fairy-tale like and perfect. Overall it was a good book though.
This is a fast-paced romantic suspense with wonderful characters. This is a solid 5 star read. The story flowed seamlessly from the beginning until the end. The suspense keeps you pulled in and I couldn't put the book down until the end. The in depth, amazing characters left me wanting to know all of their stories. I can't wait to read the next book and I would definitely recommend it.
THis was a very good book, I’m hoping this is not the end of the series. I’d like to see the other guys get there HEA.
Caleb Harper is happy that his siblings have found love but it’s not for him and I never will be. He’s never gotten passed his mothers abandonedment so one night stands is just right for him.
Audrey Martinez has one goal, her thriving veterinarian practice and the horses she she chosen to specialize in. She has no time for a true relationship so love them then push them away in the end. Anyways she’ll never find the kind of true love her parents had.
When the local horse auction house has sick horses the owner calls Audrey in to help find out why. Thinking the worst that the horses were poisened the owner calls in friends to help with security, Clayton West and the Harper brothers.
Caleb and Audrey’s attraction is instant and chemistry off the charts but there was a job to do and horses to save. So ignoring their feelings was the way to go, neither wanted a relationship. When dangerous and deadly things start to happen Caleb vows to protect Audrey even if that means Audrey being the first woman he’s ever taken to his ranch. Now to keep their hands to themselves when all they want is the opposite. When they finally come together it’s the best thing that’s ever happened but their insecurities just might end up ruining a love of a lifetime.
I highly recommend this series, I need to go back and read Abby and Clayton’s book, I read book 2 (Brice and Naiome) and liked that book also
My Favorite Cowboy (Heart of Texas #3) by Donna Grant .....If you love a fast paced romance with a mystery and danger thrown in ..this is the book for you. It is the 3rd book in the HEART OF TEXAS series but can be read as a stand alone. Thanks so much to the publisher and #NetGalley for allowing me to preview this book. Audrey Martinez (Veterinarian who loves horses) Caleb Harper (Cowboy who trains horses) We also get to touch base with Clayton and Abby and Naomi and Brice. Something is happening to the horses at the auction house...There is plenty of action, mystery and evil intent, laughter, tears, some personal hangups and steamy sex all leading to a very HEA. I hated for this book to end.
Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Great world building Steamy Romantic Happily Ever After Wonderful characters Page-turner Entertaining Action-packed Witty Easy-to-read
While this is the third book in the series, this can be read as a stand alone book. This book has a lot of mystery. From the horses that haven fallen ill, to the attack on the doctor trying to help them. Audrey, is just trying to help a family friend, David, and gets involved in this mystery. David also gets help from close friends, and ranch owners. Caleb offers to help fix the security cameras, and gets pulled in after meeting Audrey.
Throughout mysterious things keep happening, lading them on the hunt for who could want to harm the horses. Caleb hasn't had an easy life and doesn't ever want to get involved with a woman, but he can't help his attraction to Audrey.
Lots of mystery, family surrounding each other willing to help, a wild horses. I'm hoping this series will continue with many more books to come!
MY FAVORITE COWBOY By Donna Grant
This is such a good page turner of a story and it is the 3rd book of the Heart of Texas series, it can be read as a stand alone book. I couldn't put it down once I started it. It is the story of Caleb Harper, a horse rancher and Audrey Martinez the local equine vet. Both have issues they have to deal with and overcome. They meet when some horses at the auction house that were previously fine suddenly become very ill without a reason for it. They are trying to get to the bottom of what is happening. This has suspense, romance, heat, angst and characters from past books. I give this story 4 stars.
Audrey Martinez and Caleb Harper are two of a kind. Audrey is seeking a love like her parents had and she won't settle for anything less. Caleb has abandonment issues and never lets anyone in. From the moment they meet, sparks are flying. Neither are willing to risk their hearts. In the midst of their attraction, horses are being hurt purposely. It is a race against time to find out who and how they can save the horses. This is the third book and I enjoyed coming back to old friends.
Very good book. But it's a Donna Grant book, so I expected no less. Audrey was a well respected equine vet who had a good business but was called on to help a family friend when 4 of his horses fell ill. It took quite awhile to figure out what was wrong. Things kept not adding up. Caleb and his brothers offered to help and more of his military friends were called in too. There were lots of twists and turns in this book. It kept me very entertained. Some mystery, some romance, some hot sex, family dynamics, betrayal and horses. What more could you want
I got this book from NetGalley for an honest review.
It’s Caleb’s turn to fall in love, and he falls hard.
This is the third in the Heart of Texas series, although it works just fine as a standalone. Caleb’s love interest is Audrey Martinez, and while her family background isn’t as traumatized as Caleb’s, she also has issues. Together they work together to solve a mystery involving poisoned horses, someone trying to destroy Audrey’s career, and to overcome their personal fears.
An equine mystery, an independent veterinarian, and a protective cowboy…
This is the third book in the Heart of Texas series that can be read as a stand-alone. The teenage boys from the first book have grown-up and this is the story for one of them.
Four horses have become sick from a mysterious illness and Audrey Martinez, an equine veterinarian, is called in to treat them being friends with the auction house owner. She’s very capable, on retainer with two ranches and she assists a horse rescue but she’ll help these animals. When the blood test results are sabotaged it becomes apparent that the problem could be man-made. But why would someone want to hurt these beautiful animals and what was used?
Time is of the essence if the animals are to survive and someone is working against Audrey who is highly independent, reluctant to take assistance, a product of losing both parents when one of them died. She has her sister and her career, the reputation she’s built is everything. When the Harper brothers offer their assistance it’s not just that their help is required that has her agreeing, the youngest brother unexpectedly draws her attention.
Like his two siblings, Caleb Harper suffers from abandonment issues after his mother left them when he was a young boy. That didn’t stop him from succeeding in the military and becoming a rancher with his brother, specifically, he’s a very talented horse trainer. Relationships with women though are something he has avoided, he has friends and family that he trusts and that is enough, or at least it was until he met a sexy veterinarian who stays in his thoughts and he has a strong desire to protect.
Upon investigation, it’s determined that what the specific horses that became ill have in common is the veterinarian who is treating them. Is she responsible and why? There are some who wonder with all the strange incidents that have occurred, Audrey’s reputation is on the line. Can those who believe in her continue to do so, help clear her name, and save the horses?
Take two individuals averse to commitment who are strongly attracted to each other and you do have some awkward situations and misunderstandings. Both of the protagonists have to resolve issues from their past to move forward in life unencumbered and they have to do it under a stressful situation. It’s not easy to face the past when it has defined your life for years, sometimes what’s needed is a catalyst, for these two that was the feelings they had for each other that they didn’t know what to do with and couldn’t easily just walk away from.
Caleb’s familial resolution was too fast for this reader to totally believe, it felt forced whereas Audrey’s familial resolution was sweet and touching. The suspenseful plot was engaging and there’s a nice epilogue. I liked these characters and the supportive family units they’d built.
An advanced reading copy was obtained from the publisher via NetGalley.
This story is very entertaining. I really liked the mystery of it. Wondering who the bad guy was and how the main characters would solve everything. Pretty hot too when Audrey finally gives in to Caleb, or should I say the other way around? Although I do have to say that i'm very disappointed Caleb never used that window for more than the view LOL. Caleb and Audrey are very in zinc with each other and that surprises him immensely since he has no desire to get close to any woman. Trust issues and all. But it seems he has no choice. And he couldn't have picked a better woman because she has a heart of gold and she is strong and brave. That's another thing I like about this book, the heroin is not defenseless. And with the help of her sister she learns to ask for help at the right time and to the right people. Because Caleb's family is a godsend, just like himself. Audrey will be glad to be part of the pack. You will enjoy all pages of this book while these characters figure out everything between crimes, feelings, family issues and more.
My Favorite Cowboy by Donna Grant is the third book in the Heart of Texas. The series features the Harper siblings. Grant combines suspenseful mysteries with swoon-worthy romance.
The tale that unfolds soon pulled me in when Audrey tries to save horses from a mysterious illness as danger mounts and sparks fly. My Favorite Cowboy was, sadly, not my favorite of Donna Grant's cowboys. This one puts Caleb, the king of one-night stands, together with veterinarian Audrey, the only lady in the county looking for Mr. Right Now, which should be a temporary match made in heaven. Add in all the drama surrounding the mystery of someone harming horses that has Caleb and Audrey involved up to their necks, and we have the potential for an exciting, captivating read.
The drama and suspense were done well and definitely kept my attention. Had that been the only conflict, I would have been thrilled with the story. Even the underlying issues of loss, abandonment and feeling unworthy of love served to endear the main characters to me and elicit sympathy. The story dragged for me with too much character introspection, and I found myself skipping paragraphs of both this, as well as some of the intimate scenes that had little spark or flow. In spite of that, this would still have been a good read, but the main characters both being stricken with abject stupidity, not once, but twice, and keeping them apart for half of the story's timeline of two weeks, was something I couldn’t get past.
I really liked both of the characters' complexity and flaws, and I adored the secondary characters. I also appreciate the way Grant gave both Caleb and Audrey closure with their issues, allowing them to let go of the past and move forward. If you’ve never read this author's cowboy romances, I suggest starting with one of the other books in the series, but if you're already a Grant fan, you’ll probably enjoy this one.
