Discovering You is a good fit for readers looking for a heartwarming romance between two different individuals who bond over shared memories and must navigate long-distance challenges to be together.
I enjoyed this romantic and sexy story of two people finding each other and feeling that instant connection that makes life worth living. I liked the mysterious beginning and wondering how the modern lovers were connected. I highly recommend this romantic novel of first love and instant attraction
This is the first book in a trilogy.
I loved the prologue, the story of the ancient cross !
Lucy and Justin could not be more different. She has a clear cut plan for her life and career and it includes work , work and more work. Until she meets rock star Justin. I loved their chemistry and I can’t wait for book 2!
This is the first book of a trilogy in which history blends with modern times and two souls who seem to be destined for one another come together by a twist of faith.
Through her job at a museum, Lucy touches a cross that seems to carry a secret buried by time. Little of that is described in the Prologue and I could not wait to find out what happens in modern times. After the unsettling flash backs she has, she meets Justin, with whom the connection is almost instant. But sometimes things are not that easy. Justin is a rock star, with plans for his career, while Lucy wants to settle into a quiet life.
The characters are well developed and I enjoyed the book. I am excited to read the next book and see what happens.
Soulmates that would collide no matter at the point of history. Just a single artifact would tie them together and remind them of the life where it all began.
This is a new author to me. But I found out quickly that she’s very talented. The book is set up nicely and made me anticipate the rest of the story.
Some of the storyline was difficult, like the parent situation. I mean who should they dictate like that? It’s not the 18th century. Is this still even done nowadays? I suppose. There are some cringe areas or tropes. You know good girl Virgin. Bad boy players. But they aren’t teenagers.
This one takes a different approach to the leads relationship in terms of being “together” as in not. But some people might like that they are with different characters. Truth be told while it annoyed me, I understood why. The book is also written differently than what I’ve seen in a long while. Some things were used in like medical terms or clinical if you will.
It wasn’t too strange but very unusual.
I honestly didn’t have too many expectations for the book since she’s a first time author for me. But all in all, it was a good read. Read it if you’re looking outside the norm of this genre.
Thank you to the publisher, Netgalley and the author for this ARC in exchange for a honest review.
"Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review."
Loved this book very much. It had just enough sweet, sexy romance and the storyline was great! I highly recommend!
** spoiler alert **
The beginning of this book grabbed my attention. I loved how it was set up. It got me looking forward to what’s to come between the main characters.
But... I got to be honest here. I had a hard time with Lucy’s character right from the beginning. I saw what the author was going for. Francesca and Lucy had the same problems. Their parents choosing how to live their lives. And who to be with. But, I just wasn’t warming up to Lucy. Or Justin either!
This is starting to become a pet peeve of mine in certain books. Virgins. (Now, if this was an Alexa Riley book... then yes! Bring on the virgins! lol) But, why does the girl always have to be a virgin. And the guy has been with lots of women through out his life. But, a girl in her mid twenties... never been with anyone! It’s just so aggravating.
News flash... it’s 2019! Women can have sex too!
I’m not a fan of main characters being with with other people after they have met. It just doesn’t sit well with me. Justin being with Rachel after asking Lucy out on a date felt like a bucket of cold water being thrown on me.
I’m not going to lie. After that whole thing. I kinda checked out. I was upset by it. I was already struggling with the pace of this book. It dragged. I kept putting my kindle down. And picking it back up. I was hoping it would pick up like the beginning of this story. It never did.
The way things were described in this book seem like someone older wrote this book. It just seemed dated a little bit. And I absolutely hate when you use clinical terms for body parts in books.
-He devoted great attention to washing between her legs, and caressing her vulva.-
That’s not sexy at all!!!
I found it extremely hard to believe Justin was British. Only certain words would pop up like mate and bloody. Most of the time I pictured him as an American. I think his Britishness could’ve been better written.
Overall.... this book was not what I was expecting. I was expecting long lost lovers finding each other and unraveling what happened to them in past lives. Revealing the past through their eyes.
Instead this book is about Justin’s psycho ex girlfriend. That won’t leave leave him alone. I would never see past what she did. It’s embarrassing and humiliating.
Lucy’s evil mother. And a guy that won’t take no for an answer.
All that drama overshadows the main reason for this story. What a shame.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Beyond amazing I enjoyed this book so very much. The characters and storyline were fantastic. The ending I did not see coming Could not put down nor did I want to.
Wow...
I can’t begin to tell you how much I loved this first instalment in this wonderful series I’ve had to request the next two.
Absolutely beautiful story it has it all ..I can not wait to find out what happens next.
2 stars
This was a book that just wasn't for me. From page one I struggled reading it. Not my thing. This was more historical romance for me.
I totally loved this book, and I am so glad that I managed to get all three in the series together because I had to binge read to see what was going to happen and would have hated to have to wait for the next book to come out. I was not really expecting it to be what I would call a historical flashback story as there are so few in the romance genre, but this is what it is and much more.
Julian is a famous rock star, Lucy is an intern at a museum, their lives are lightyears apart until they meet on a beach and recognise that they have a special link. Both have been suffering from nightmares for years and have no explanation for them, but they feel like theyhave come home now they are together even though there are elements trying to tear them apart.
This is a wonderful debut book from Kate and after reading this series I look forward to reading more from her.
If you love romance and mystery with a historical element this is a must read.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book in the Indigo Trilogy.
We begin Chapter 1 with Lucy, an art intern (unpaid) at the Preston gathering around to receive the Treasure of Byzantium, the latest exhibition for the museum. Her boss, Greg hands her the Varangian Cross, with its gold and inlaid with the deepest blue lapis lazuli. There is a translation on it that translates to " May my cross provide courage and protection for Stefanos Varangopoulos Sebatos." As Lucy is holding this cross, she has an episode including being dizzy and falls to the ground.
Despite Lucy's mother and her affluence, she is pursuing her PhD in art history. This cross seems to be something of a focus in Lucy's life, she has a vivid dream that wakes her at 4:30am and she notices a gorgeous sunrise beginning, so she heads out to the beach to watch.Nearby, Justin, a British band member of Indigo also stirs and he too headed out onto the beach. Lola the dog facilitates a meeting between Justin and Lucy. They meet like Cinderella at the ball.
Lucy and her friend Colleen head to an Indigo concert in Los Angeles. As they listen to the music, Lucy and the lead singer's eyes meet and she realizes that this is the guy that she met on the beach. We are fast forwarded through the concert with some backstage passes and a complicated romance to follow.
I do not want to give anymore away, but this book is full of ups and downs and heartbreak and a lot of complications. We are left on a cliff at the end of this book, but the good news is that the second book is readily available. Look for my review of the second book coming soon.
Discovering You is the first book in the Indigo Trilogy and tells the story of Lucy and Justin.
The book begins with a prologue from centuries ago about a woman who has to marry a man even though she’s in love with another man. Then from chapter one until the end we have our main characters Lucy and Justin.
Lucy and Justin have a special connection and suffer both from nightmares that are somewhat similar. When I finished Discovering You, I thought that there would be a bigger link to the prologue. It’s like the prologue hasn’t got a big meaning besides the fact that the cross Lucy saw was from the prologue.
Don’t get me wrong, I still liked Lucy and Justin as characters, but it felt like something was missing or that the story wasn’t finished. Besides that, I enjoyed getting to know Lucy and Justin. They’re both so different and that made the story really interesting. I wanted to get to know the characters better, and the double perspective really helped with that.
I liked the story in general, but the writing bothered me a bit. It often felt a bit rushed or just badly written. I also thought we were going to see some more paranormal aspects because of Lucy and Justin’s special connection and the prologue, but it didn’t really happen. I liked the characters, but I wished to see some more character development.
I still look forward to reading the sequel, Waiting For You, because I’m curious about what will happen to Lucy and Justin.
(3.5/5*)
Discovering You is a promising start to the Indigo Trilogy. I liked the story and the characters and look forward to seeing what comes next.
I liked this read, but got a tad irritated with parts of it. Lucy would be so strong, but the just turn into someone with no confidence and irrational reactions. I felt bad for Justin at times because she would be so hot and cold with her reactions. He also messed up bad and wanted her to tell him everything, but he withheld very important information!
It end with a cliffhanger with no lead up, it just ends. I want to know what will happen. There is a subplot going on with possible past lives and betrayal. I have a feeling it is going to mirror what is happening in the present.
Received an ARC from the publisher through NetGalley.
Confession time - I started this book last night at 10pm with the intention of only reading a few chapters..... well I ended up finishing the book at 1am. I just couldn't put it down. I was instantly hooked and intrigued from the very start which involved a story from the year 1204, then you meet the main characters, Lucy and Justin in the present day and you see how their story develops.
Lucy is very driven and career focused in the history & art world whereas Justin is the lead singer in a successful band. Justin is working on a solo project as the other band members are all happily married with kids.
I love the author's writing style so I totally believed in both characters and their flaws, the reaction/connection they experience together is very intense and I need to know what happens next. Fortunately the story doesn't end here as this is the first book in the trilogy.
Thank you so much to the publisher and NetGalley for the chance to read this story in exchange for an honest review, I am now off to locate the next two books.
Lucy is getting her PhD in art history and Justin is a famous rock star. They met and it’s pretty much love at first sight. Of course Justin being a handsome rockstar, doesn’t have the cleanest past. They are going strong but a bitter ex released a very unflattering video of herself and Justin and this causing a major drift in his relationship with Lucy. There’s something supernatural about Lucy’s and Justin attraction and this intrigues me (my favorite part of the book really). So far I don't quite understand what this weird connection between them is so I cannot wait to read part 2 of this book. It’s a trilogy.
Do you believe in soul mates? If not then this story might change your mind. I don't want to say too much to spoil the story for you but Justin and Lucy are destined before their first meeting. This one has a slow burn feel to it and I really enjoyed it. This was a new to me author & I will definitely be looking for more of her work. Recommended.
***ARC received in exchange of an honest opinion***
This book was a nice surprise. I got it from Netgalley (which means I read the synopsis, but I fonfess I forgot what it was about when I started it) and it hooked me from the start.
There's a mysterious thing going on, but it's mostly a contemporary read and I dare say it impressed me (which as you know isn't an easy feature).
The characters are relatable and we can see the chemistry between Justin and Lucy, the main characters. They also have a deeper connection that I can't wait to see the author explore more.
There's a bit of history and art in the mix and I confess ai would have liked to see more of it in this first book (it's the nerd in me), although I have a feeling it will be more explored - and explained - in the next installments in the trilogy.
The story has a bit of everything I like in good books and I really enjoyed the plotting and the writing. Although the romance can feel a bit insta-lovey, in this case I think it's explained well and it has something to do with the plotline, so it's okay.
I can't wait to read the next book now, I hope it lives up to this one and the expectations I now have!
