An interesting take different from many authors I have read. This book took me by surprise and I really enjoyed living through these characters
So far, I think Dark Alpha's Awakening one of my favorites of the series. My notes page is full of all the stuff that happens in this book! I know the blurb doesn't give away the couple, so I'm going to keep my mouth shut and not say who it is. It is one of my favorite couples though.
Bran is still the main villain and he is only getting stronger. It also seems like his allies are growing. How loyal they are will be the question. Bran is showing off his powers in a way that tore at my heart. He seems to be breaking the Reapers down and winning! My anxiety was through the roof.
We see a lot of characters flit in and out of this story. It's like a puzzle to see who fits where. The excitement and action in this book was perfect and kept me on my toes. The ending was a shocker and I'm so excited to see how that plays into the upcoming books. I feel like we're going to go in a new direction now.
Also, River gives birth in this book. What bothered me is Erith's comments and how they relate to what has happened before and is noted in a Dark King book. Seems there might be a conflict there, and it may well have been addressed and I just missed it.
There is absolutely nothing I don’t like about Ms. Grant’s writing. This book was no different. From the dragons to the reapers… I’ve just lost myself in the worlds she creates and forgotten that I’m in the real world and I’m actually reading fantasy. This story kept me enthralled the entire time and reading well into the early morning hours. I couldn’t put it down. Engaging characters that you just can’t help but to root for and a story that always keeps you guessing! I always look forward to seeing what this author HS in store for her readers next! So far, I can’t say I’m disappointment at all!
OMG the story we have all been dying for in this series has finally arrived. This series has gone in some interesting directions and I can see that there is a lot more coming, but I am thrilled that Death and her man have finally found a way to have their HEA. For anyone that has followed this series, we could see the love and passion that was between Erith and her the leader of her reapers, but both resisted the temptation to fall into one another’s arms, until finally there was no way they could resist anymore. The war that Cael and Erith have been fighting has changed them both over the millennia, but the time has finally come for her to return her to embrace her former self and find a way to incorporate her past and present lives into one. The war is escalating and their enemies are multiplying, but Erith and Cael both know that they love they feel is what makes them both so strong. I loved seeing Erith find her way, with Cael’s help, to the true warrior she was always meant to be. Her strength and ruthlessness, tempered with love and compassion was just what was needed to lead the Reapers against their greatest enemy. I will say that seeing her dealing with the inner turmoil and a startling loss in this story had me in tears for a while, but Grant writes it so beautifully that the pain is worth it in the end. Cael too is a character that you cannot help but love, mainly because he wears his mantle of leadership and love so well that there is no denying he is a true leader of men. When they are both at their full potential, leading the Reapers into battle, there is nothing and no one that can defeat them. My favorite moments, though, were the quiet and gentle moments that they shared as they expressed their love for one another and finally let their guards down to admit the love they have both felt for millennia. It is always amazing to see two such long-lived people find a way to finally admit that they have been pining for one another, giving us lowly mortal perspective and reminding us how finite our time to find love and live a worthy life truly is. I am dying to see where this series goes and how it will continue to weave into the overall story of the Dragon Kings and their war as well. The amazing way that Donna manages to bring these series together, while still maintaining the separate story arcs is nothing short of amazing in my opinion, and well beyond my abilities, but as a reader I can greatly appreciate the magic of it. Keep the magic coming my way Donna and I’ll keep spreading the word of your witchcraft.
What a fascinating book. I was impressed by the storyline and the characters were all well written and complex. Where there are complex storylines combined with intriguing characters the reader experience is magnified tremendously. To have a book that is well written as well as entertaining is a delight. Reading is about escaping your world and entering another one. The word building was phenomenal in this book. Here I forgot about my own life and was immersed in the world created by the author. I would recommend this book.
Who knew Death could be so personable?
The Reaper series has been a string of surprises and nothing more so than learning this author’s interpretation of Death and her Reapers. Death has been a mystery, and her relationship with Cael along with it. I couldn’t wait for their pairing to be explained and the secrets were as epic as I’d hoped. Of course, the over-arching plot of this series percolated along with more intrigue and suspense doled out in tantalizing tidbits. Balladyne played a major contributor in Cael and Erith’s story, along with their warriors in arms.
I want to share all the details, all the moments that made this story so good but you must find out each secret for yourself. If you’re thinking of reading this as a standalone I recommend you start from the beginning instead – and not get lost like I first did!
The longest awaited couple in this series, finally getting together.
Probably the most interesting out of all the books, because we've actually been able to learn about the characters throughout the other books more than anyone else.
It had an interesting, if predictable ending, although I'm curious how there's another book in the series. It's unfortunate that the only book that was interesting to me was 6 or 7
Donna Grant does it again! She writes swoon worthy alphas like a beast! She is a one click buy for me!
DARK ALPHA’S AWAKENING is the seventh book in the Reapers series. Grant has built a really fascinating world that I have enjoyed reading a lot, but this book kind of feels different than the other books in the series.
Firstly, it takes a while for the book to warm up because Grant kind of does a recap of the origin of the Reapers and really what they are all about. I’m sure this was meant to really create drama and make this story feel larger than life, but at the same time, I think it created some pacing issues. I find this especially true if you’re a loyal fan of the series because most of the first half is stuff that readers already know.
Grant writes this book to make it feel like the end. But if you know, Grant’s writing and her series style, then you also know what none of her series really truly end. They are all connected somehow so I really don’t see a true end coming from this one either.
All that being said, I think this book is a good book, but it’s not my favorite of the series. I kind of felt like this would have been a good beginning book in the series if that makes any sense, but it really does feel like the origin started here. Nevertheless, I do recommend this series and this book as a whole.
Ok so this one seemed a little different than the earlier in the series. This one seemed a little sad. But this one was also extremely fast paced with lots of action. I love that it can be both very emotional and then get right back into the action and keep going! I love Erith so much! When we get to see some real emotions from her 😍
From the moment he saw her he knew he would do whatever she asked. When Death came for him it wasn’t to end his life but to restore what had been taken by lies and deceit. Just one look at he knew he would lover her always but never act upon the feelings that consumed him. Sometimes those with the darkest souls need someone else to show them the light and everything love has to offer.
Death is Erith, a woman who chose a life and has since then grown in other ways. Erith has kept herself from showing her true emotions but when it comes to Cael she finds herself in unchartered territory.
Cael has loved Erith since he can remember. When Erith finds herself needing Cael to help defeat Bran things begin to heat up.
I liked this one quite a bit, it helped fill in some things I was curious about from the other book I read. I do think I need to go back and start from the beginning because I did read not in order. Liked Cael, he is an interesting character. I also found myself fascinated by Erith. Unique twist to a reaper series.
I haven't read any of the previous books in the series. I was told that this could be read as a standalone, but yeesh, is that not true for me. I was extremely confused. The beginning provides a bit of a recap, which I appreciated, but I still felt really confused as to what character was doing what, and who they were, and why. Ultimately I had to DNF this book because everything just felt too convoluted, and the characters kind of all felt like they had the same voice. Let that be a lesson, my friends (and to myself) - don't jump in to the middle of a series!
Dark Alpha's Awakening is the seventh book in the Reapers series. Though it is a part of a series, it can also be read as a standalone. Having not read many of the previous books (2/6), I can say though you are missing out on some character background, you are not missing a sufficient amount of background to feel lost or confused. You can read it as a standalone if you want.
This particular book in the Reapers series follows Erith, a.k.a. Death, and her Reapers, one in particular being Cael. A rogue Reapor draining Erith's powers needs to be stopped before he kills her and her Reapors. I'll be honest it does take a while to really get into this story, mostly due to the fact that Grant recaps the origin and nature of the Reapers. However, once you get into this story it is quite an enjoyable read. There was some pacing issues and this is definitely not my favourite of the series but it was still a generally good book to read.

This was another great addition to the Reaper series,. I have been waiting for Cael and Erith's story since the beginning just like every other reader of this series and I can't say how happy I am that Donna didn't make us wait too long for their HEA.
This is one of those books in a series that leaves you not being able to say too much about simply because of the amount of things that happen, things that may change the tide of not only your favorite characters futures but the tide of the war the characters have been battling since book one.
Donna gives us so many resolutions in this book and yet I feel like she blew the door wide open on so many other new outcomes and adventures. One of my favorite aspects of these books and especially so in this one is how it is interwoven within the entire 'Dark King' world and that it is bringing us just that much closer to the outcome we are all desperately waiting for, the revelation of just who is Rhi's Dragon King! I for one am rooting for Con, even if he has made me wish it wasn't him a time or two.
The relationship between Cael and Erith is exactly what you want it to be. Steamy, romantic, caring, supportive, and balanced. It really could be no other way!
This is a must read for fans of this series. If you are new to this series, DO NOT start here, you need to go all the way back to the beginning and if you want to really experience this world, you need to go way back to the true start of it all with Dangerous Highlander! I know it's a lot of books, but I promise you wo'n't regret it, but fore warning....we're all still waiting for Rhi's Dragon to be revealed so be patient! Haha
Another AMAZING Reaper novel! Donna Grant continues to impress me with each new book. I can’t wait for the next one!
I have not read previous books in this series yet, so I felt a little lost at times (did not count against that in my rating bc that's my shortcoming), but overall, I really liked this story and will definitely go back to read earlier installments!
Donna Grant is an excellent paranormal/fantasy writer, and her scope of imagination never ceases to amaze me --- this story was no different. I was hooked from the get-go, and the world building was really intricate but "made sense" and was easily picture-able from the descriptions. Cael and Erith had off the charts chemistry, and their story was at times heart wrenching and at others heart warming. There was a little more angst than I tend to like, but the steamy goodness pay offs were worth it! I would recommend reading the other books before this one if you can because it appears that they have been introduced in earlier stories (and the world building would be easier to understand), but I enjoyed it and am looking forward to more!
Dark Alpha’s Awakening was a good 4 star read and book seven in the Reaper series. This is Cael and Erith’s story.
We start with Death (Erith) the goddess of war approaching Cael and offering him a deal to stay alive and get revenge on the men who betrayed him. She has hidden her sword and has decided to share some of her powers with the reapers.
I am Death. I will be judge and jury to the Fae. As a Reaper, you would carry out my orders.
When Erith killed Bran’s lover due to breaking specific rules, he has committed to getting revenge on her and her Reapers. She is slowly losing her powers to Bran and is worried what he will do to the Reapers when she’s lost it all. She realizes she has to make a choice. Will it be the right one?
Cael and Erith have some high sexual tension between them, when they finally gave it it was extremely HOT. It was about darn time. Donna Grant does a great job of pulling you right in with her writing and you won’t want to stop reading until your done. Overall this was a good read with some great secondary characters. There are twist and turns and a cliffhanger that will leave you wanting the next book to see just where things are going.

This one was great! Loved seeing Erith (aka Death) and Cael's passion come to fruition. They are too cute! They have hidden their feelings for each other for ages, but no longer will they. The connection they have is so sweet and the depth they feel for each other is so heart warming. Plus, it's great to see all the Reapers working together to take on Bran and any other enemy that pops up. There was some intense scenarios going on! Totally entertaining story! Love the world this story takes place in and just how unique the whole series is. There's still so much that needs to come to light and I'm excited to see where the story goes. Loved all the powers, the Fae, and the intrigue! Lots of moving parts going on in this series!
Now that the Reapers have found love, they will fight to keep it. Bran will be targeting their women so they can feel the same anguish he did. While they fight to keep their loves, Cael and Death fight for the chance to finally be together.
