Well written, characters were good, really enjoyed this one couldn't put it down
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance read
4.5 stars - Let me first start by saying, this is the first installment in this series that I understood from start to finish. Now, I know what my husband feels like when he finally connects the dots of a Game of Thrones plot. I don’t know if it’s because I’ve finally gotten the cast of characters, allies and enemies, plots and sub-plots and good and bad factions figured out, or if this one is just written better. Whatever the reason, I was able to fully enjoy this read including all the wonder and complexity in which Ms. Grant infused into the story. The villain, heroine, hero and mission are all clear and it’s a glorious thing.
If you’ve been enjoying this series, this one is going to be a home run for you. If you haven’t read it any of the books, I actually think that this isn’t a bad starting point. Either way, you’re in for a treat!
I received an ARC of this book, from the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for a fair and honest review.
This is the end to the Reapers series, at least the primary arc that we have been following and it is another amazing, addicting story with turbulent ups and downs that had me undeniably hooked throughout the entire thing.
Great read. I couldn't put it down. Love the characters and story. It has some great twists and turns. Readers will be drawn into the story from the first page. Readers will want to add it to their To Be Read list.
I like this series because there is so much character and world building. And the unspoken love between Death/Erith and Cael has been so hard to watch, I just wanted to see them together. Throughout this series, I’ve seen the changes in relationships, the addition of new characters, and the deeper understanding of their world. This is a complex story; I was constantly imagining all the ways each interaction could go. It is never boring.
This is the seventh book in a series but can be read as a standalone.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
OMG, finally!! I've been reading the Dark King Series and the Reaper Series of Donna Grant for some time now and now there is finally a book on Death (Erith) herself! Yay! Cael has been in love with Erith for centuries, but as Death herself, she didn't let anyone come near her. When she is weakened by Bran, she must take up her sword (which Ettie has retrieved in part 5).
We see how Cael and the Reapers are preparing to fight Bran. We see how friends and foes unite in this epic battle between Death and Bran. Who will betray who and how will Cael be able to help Death if she doesn't let him in her realm?
A story full of twists and turns and although we get a glimpse of the story... there's always more... So four out of five stars from me, but only because now I have to wait for the next part in the series. Thank you Netgalley for providing the arc and Donna Grant: please keep them coming!
This was the one I've been waiting for and it was everything I hoped for! Grant absolutely delivered the best book in the series so far. I wanted Death to get her story and boy did she.
Thank you to Swerve (St. Martin's Press) and NetGalley for providing me with an e-ARC to read and review. "Dark Alpha's Awakening" by Donna Grant is set to be published February 5, 2019.
"Dark Alpha's Awakening" is an epic paranormal romance to love and appreciate.
I am in awe of Donna Grant's mastery of the written word. Her sentences, her diction were just...seamless - the epitome of "the right words in the right order." From beginning to end, I was enamored with the characters, intrigued by the complexity of the plot, and captivated by the storytelling and how she brought everything together.
I love this new approach to Death and Reapers. You get a fresh take on Death's origins and what compelled her to create the Reapers. I also love that fae were involved - one of my favorite beings to read about. Really, this book just had a little of everything I love about the paranormal romance and fantasy genres.
For me, this was the perfect story. It's the kind of story I love to read. I don't know if or when I'll go back ad read the other books (woops!), but I have become an instant fan of Donna Grant and I know others will too if they read her books.
This is one of my top 2 in this series. This couple was a long time coming and Grant did not disappoint. Cael is a strong hero and Erith finally becomes the person she was meant to. Grants still continues to intrigue us about Rhi as well. This wraps up this story line well and still leaves openings for the Reapers to continue without dragging out the plot.
It's the first book I read in this series and it was a great discovery that made me crave for more.
It's entertaining, fast paced and a page turner you cannot put down.
I love the action packed plot, the characters and the general mood of the book.
I will surely read the other books in this series.
Highly recommended!
Many thanks to St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for this ARC
This book finally raps up the battle between the Reapers and Bram WITH the added benefit of Cael and Erith’s love story coming to fruition .
Reading the previous books would be of benefit but this one can be read as a standalone .
Bran has found a part of Erith's old diary , one she long thought destroyed , and has been syphoning both her strength and magic , slowly weakening her and strengthening him .
To keep the Reapers' wives safe from Bran and his Dark Fae , she must utilise Cael's Strategic expertise and recover what is causing her loss of powers .
Bringing together not just the Reapers but also both Light and Dark Fae to aid her in her battle against Bran , Erith , must decide Cael's fate , after his capture and torture by Bran . Can she save him or must she lose him in favour of the greater good .
A very good fast paced romance laced with darkness and twists and turns .
This is not the last book in the series I think as there were teasers at the end of the book regarding characters that just wont go away .
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own .
Donna Grant just knows how to give all the feels! I haven't read the other books in this series but I'm going to download them as soon as I'm done writing this review!
This book is dark, sexy, romantic, and most of all- it's full of action! Highly recommend this book and any other others written by Grant!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. All I can say is OMG, yet another great book in The Reaper series by Donna Grant. Just love reading her work and I recommend her to friends and family.
Erith & Cael are such an amazing character! I really enjoyed reading their romance! I highly recommend!! This book was written so well, I was able to imagine it as if I was there!
Holy Hades! I have been dying to have Cael and Erith’s story for forever it seems and Grant delivered beautifully! The leader of the Reapers and Death herself finally getting together after centuries of secretly eyeing one another with unfulfilled desire I might add?! Um, yes please!! Bonus points for finally getting a battle worthy wrap-up regarding Bran and his Dark Fae army too, but I’m shamelessly admitting I’m all about the romance between Cael and Erith!
Cael was brilliant at strategy and protective like any good guy and I loved how he never hesitated to step back and let Edith do her thing. He never felt threatened by her power, rather he was proud of her and what she could do. So when Erith fully re-embraced all of herself as Death and Mistress of War, shouldering the mantle of her true power, it was pretty cool to see Cael step back and let her take center stage. However, seeing them together sharing equal power and working as supportive partners was downright awesome!
As I mentioned above, Cael and Erith’s book also wraps up the battle with Bran-finally!-while leading into another storyline with a few pesky characters who just won’t fade into the woodwork! The story took a couple of twists I was not expecting, keeping my anticipation high, and Grant delivered everything I wanted and then some! Great fights, muddled secrets, one blistering hot romance, and some mixed news from the battlefront has me curious to see where the next story will lead the hodgepodge of allies-and enemies-the Reapers and the Dragon Kings have amassed!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I had read the previous six books in this series and this is the one I had been waiting for!!
I read the book in one sitting and LOVED it, I really felt for Death and her Reapers in this one. It is a longer novel that some of the others in the series and with that you get a more complex story that had twists and turns and just the right amount of detail to keep you fully engrossed, gripped and entertained.
For me this story is superb, Donna Grant is an excellent storyteller and this is the best Reaper book in the series so far by quite a way - and taking in to consideration that I have given the others all 5 stars, that is saying something. I thought that the plot was brilliant, so well developed and I loved how it all came together at the end.
The book is left on a bit of a cliff-hanger so I can't wait to see what happens in the next book and where she takes the characters - the only downside is the wait for the book!!
Five stars from me, no hesitation and could easily have been six or seven stars - I am really looking forward to the next book in the series - I love the Dark Kings series but the Reapers is right up there for me, I love the characters
Serving Death and the Reapers has been my life for centuries. I’ve always put my duty before everything, even my yearning for Death. But now, she’s fading – our foe is bent on destroying her and he will stop at nothing until he does. When I started reading I couldn't put it down. Donna Grant is magnifysent and amazing writer.I cannot wait to read more of there books.Keep up the great work. You should definitely read this book. Can't wait for the next book.
I received an ARC copy of this book for my honest review by St Martins press and NetGalley. This book is part of an existing series involving Death, her Reapers, and the Fae (also linked to her Dragon Kong’s series). While this was the first book in this series that I have read it was easy to fall along with the story line. This book follows Death and her head Reaper Cael. While their love is underlying throughout the story there was more action with battles and intrigue than heavy love scenes. But it was highly enjoyable and not difficult to follow as someone new to the series. There were struggles for both leads with some sad moments but overall their love was strong. I don’t want to give any spoilers but definitely a great book to read. 5 stars.
"Dark Alpha's Awakening" is the seventh novel in a series but is OK to read as a stand-alone (everything is explained well). This novel primarily follows Death herself, Erith, and one of her reapers, Cael. Erith is the goddess (or mistress) of war- she had fought for centuries before she realized that was not what she wanted to do anymore. She hid her sword and created reapers from Fae who were killed by those who betrayed them. The reapers, with whom she shares some of her power, mete out the punishments based on her judgments.
Now known as death, Erith must give up her hands-off approach. Bran, a reaper who violated her rules about love (which have since been revised), became unstable after she killed his lover (to whom he revealed the secrets of the reapers). Since then and after breaking out of the prison Erith created for him, Bran has made it his mission to get revenge on Erith and her reapers. He has something which is allowing him to siphon her powers and weaken her with a large battle looming. He has gathered dark fae for the upcoming war and shared with them the powers he has stolen from Erith.
Cael is a reaper who cares deeply for Erith. He knew her before he died, and he may have loved her even then. Now, he certainly does, but with the distance she keeps from them, he assumes he doesn't have a chance. Erith fell in love with Cael and he inspired her to start the reapers (although he was not the first), but she is used to denying her feelings and keeping her distance. That distance is harder to keep as she weakens and must begin to rely more on her reapers for the upcoming battles.
This book is heavy on the action/battles and fantasy with a nice cherry-on-top type romance between Cael and Erith. Although there are a couple of hot and heavy scenes, most of the novel centers around the battles and war upcoming. Overall, I really enjoyed it! It's a quick read and hard to put down. Getting to see Death's perspectives was really interesting, and I liked the dynamics between her and Cael, as well as her other reapers (non-romantic relationships). I have not read any of the previous books in this series, but I was able to follow the story easily (and now I definitely want to go back and read the others).
This is sure to be a hit with fans of fantasy/adventure stories with some romance. This fast-paced and action-packed novel also builds a nice love story.
Please note that I received an ARC from the publisher through netgalley. All opinions are my own.
This story was amazing! Death and Cael are off the charts hot together. I've been looking forward to this match for a long time, and this story did not disappoint. And what happened to Cael...OMG!
