Dear Wife,
I found you. But not what I expected! Wow! I will not give spoilers, but what a turn of events. The mixture of characters was just enough for this story and definitely kept me on my toes. I love when the story turns and is a total shocker!
**Will post my review to goodreads. Also, once book is published on 06/25/2019 I will post to amazon and Barnes & Noble.
This book is very well written. It pulled me in almost right away and kept me interested until the very end. I will definitely be recommending this to the customers at my work!
Thank you to Netgalley and Harlequin for providing me with an advanced copy of Kimberly Belle's Dear Wife in exchange for my honest review. I was really excited to read this one as soon as I read the synopsis. I am a sucker for thrillers.
Dear Wife is told through multiple POVs as we follow the stories of two missing women and the people they left behind. Beth Murphy is on the run from her violent husband. She's skipped town and she won't stop running for fear that he'll catch her. Sabine Hardison is missing, and she's left behind a husband and a sister who will do anything to find her. As the story unravels, the truth behind these women's disappearance gets harder to find.
spoiler free: I really enjoyed Dear Wife. I loved the premise of following two different disappearances and the effect they had on a multitude of characters. One of my favorite things about this one was the unreliability of each character. Everyone seemed like they were telling the truth and everyone seemed like they were lying. The story unfolds with various twists and turns and no character is exactly what they seem. This made the story feel fresh and exciting.
The only reason this wasn't a full 5/5 was that I figured out the large plot point at about 75% in and then at 80% the author kind of lets you in on it. The rest of the story is suspenseful for sure as the story wraps up. I was still turning the pages until the very end, but I kind of wish I hadn't figured it out so soon.
Overall, I gave this one a 4/5. I enjoyed the multiple POVs and how the story was interwoven between all the characters. I loved how the author built the suspense up and the unreliable narrators kept me flipping through the pages.
Dear Wife is a suspense/thriller novel, and it releases on June 25, 2019. It’s available for pre-order now.
A full review will be posted on my blog/socials closer to publication. I will update this review with the link when it goes live.
Sabine Hardison, aka Beth Murphy, Jeffrey Hardison, and Markus Durand are characters we come to know intimately. Each chapter is an account of the pain in their daily experiences, with us as innocent bystanders. Sabine is ready to give up and divorce Jeffrey. His anger, violent and offensive actions have driven Sabine to quit despite Jeffrey’s threats to kill her. She has built up real estate career and in doing so has put aside a lot enough funds so that she can afford to secretly leave him.
Jeffrey Hardison has become stuck in his software publishing job. He would explode whenever his way wasn’t her way. Because of Sabine’s long hours, dinner was never ready when he returned from work. The house wasn’t as clean as it should be, the kitchen was unstocked. Sabine left one day ready to end the hurtful life that she and Jeffrey were leading. Days later Detective Markus Durand was at the house working on finding her. His income is now lower than Sabine’s. To afford the house, Sabine paid off the mortgage with the agreement that he would pay for utilities and food. They hoped that in settling financial problems, have a child and end their endless marital fighting. Sabine did become pregnant, several times but was never able to carry the child to term. Things never worked out. His anger was never resolved. Domestic violence is an ugly topic. It exists despite all of the help groups, legal aide, and hotlines. In this book we read of the results. With each of the four characters’ narrations we live it with them. With each narrative. I too was thinking about what she could do next. Ms. Belle’s storyline was overpowering. The novel was compelling, I could not put the it down. I highly recommend it.
I would like to thank Harlequin for allowing me to read the pre-published copy for review. Dear Wife by Kimberly Bell will be published June 25, 2019.
This book had me guessing for the first 75 percent of it. And then when I finally figured out who the wife was, well.... There were still more surprised up until the very end. I love that about this author! Even, when you think you know whats going on She still has surprises ans it keeps me engaged and interrsted until the very last page. Even after the book ended I waa still mentally going over the last few chapters
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is a major thriller. The twist will have you spinning! I am officially hooked on Kimberly Belle's writing. Strong characters and incredible story that unfolds so smoothly. You will be sucked in before you realize it. Unputdownable!
Kimberly Belle continues to write incredible fast-paced novels with twists and turns that I never anticipate. Strap on your seatbelt for this one because it is a wild ride. If this is your first time to read a novel by Kimberly Belle, you are in for a treat and if you are a fan, you won’t be disappointed.
Sabine and her husband, Jeffrey have had a tumultuous marriage for years and the wrongs suffered by Sabine are immeasurable. She’s young and beautiful and as one of the newest hottest real estate agents in Pine Bluff, Arkansas she is the main bread winner which Jeffrey abhors. When Sabine goes missing, her sister, Ingrid and the police immediately hone in on her husband. Marcus is the lead on the case and he leaves no stone unturned, even getting investigative help from unlikely places. It becomes evident that Sabine had significant secrets, almost another life and plans that didn’t include her husband. There is no question that he had a motive.
Beth has been planning her vanishing act for months and she has finally escaped her husband’s clutches. She endeavors to start a new life but constantly watches over her shoulder knowing he will be hunting for her. No one knows what truly goes on in a marriage. This novel may seem like a run of the mill story – girl meets boy, marries him, and then the true colors are exposed but it is so much more.
I received an advance copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
This is my third Kimberly Belle book and I liked this one very much. I think she's generally an excellent writer and this book really kept my interest. I thought the twist was really great. At one point, I was thinking that the secondary characters are so richly written that I would happily read books with them as the main character of a different book, but then later I realized why some of the characters were so fully fleshed out. I'd definitely recommend this book.
Fans of domestic suspense will surely enjoy Kimberly Belle's latest novel, DEAR WIFE. Each of the POV characters is intriguing and the narrative is easy to follow while at the same time coming across as delightfully complex. From the start the reader definitely suspects that there's more going on under the surface and that people are not who they appear. It's fun to try and figure out who is who. As the plot develops, the twists and turns do not disappoint. I found the ending to be satisfying.
Fantastic, fast-paced thriller. What a ride Kimberly Bellw took us on. While trying to figure out the disappearance of Sabine, we are introduced to Beth. Beth is on the run and in hiding. Great twist at the end that I only had partially figured out. There is grace in uncertainty!
I've always been pretty good at catching twists...until now!
DEAR WIFE is a book about a woman going missing. Her husband comes home from a business trip to find she's not there. He alerts the authorities, and we slowly find out he may not be the perfect husband HE thought he was.
Meanwhile, in another state, a woman escaping her past does all she can to ensure it doesn't catch up with her.
That's all I'll say, as it's better for the reader to go in with only the book blurb. I was truly entertained by this unputdownable book even though I assumed where it was going. Then, about 75% through, I started having an idea. It didn't fully make sense yet. I told myself I was probably wrong. I wasn't. I'd like to think my smart observation skills figured it out at the 3/4 point, but I owe it all to the author. I think that's when she planned to plant the seed. I was gripped until the very end! Very highly recommended!
Thank you to NetGalley, Park Row, and author Kimberly Belle for an ARC.
What a ride! Fast paced told from alternating perspectives. I knew something was brewing, but I wasn’t sure how it would all come together. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The author keeps you on your toes until the end. The main character is on the run but she’s strong and not going down without a fight. You think that the book is going in one direction but it’s not. Sharp writing by the author.
Well, I'm a little confused by this one. The first half was strong. I liked the writing style and was anticipating some big twists and turns. I described the writing as quick and to the point without all the boring fluff! Around the middle of the book I needed at least a small twist to happen. Instead I completely figured out what the main twist was going to be - I'm unsure if this is because I read a lot of these types of books or if it was meant for us to figure out so easily?? So midway through I've figured out the big twist and yet nothing is happening... can we have some smaller twists and turns to kept our hearts racing? So I eat my words bc the second half of the book I found to be boring and predictable. Then I started to feel uncomfortable as the book went on by some of the stereotypical descriptions of people. Some of this I'm sure was in attempt to show an "evil mind" but most of the time it was unnecessary. At that point I'm sorta skim reading bc I'm uncomfortable and eager to just see how it all ends. I was expecting a little more based on all the rave reviews and this book started off strong but ended up falling flat for me.
I have read a few of Kimberly Belle’s other novels and when I found out about this upcoming book I knew I had to read it! I loved it, just as much as I enjoyed reading her other books, especially Three Days Missing and The Marriage Lie. I was not disappointed in this book and found myself immersed in the pages, flipping through the chapters, right to the very end!
Who exactly is Beth? She devises an elaborate plan to escape from her abusive, controlling husband and is on the run from him. She had money stashed, and had all of the intricate details all planned out… And where has Sabine disappeared? Was someone responsible for her disappearance? If so, who could it be? How are the two stories related?
I was addicted to this fast-paced novel from the beginning. It was interesting to read the book from different perspectives – from the detective in charge of finding missing Sabine, Jeffrey who is Sabine’s husband, and Beth who is running away from her abusive husband.
A complex story that is both a domestic thriller and a psychological thriller. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and all the suspense in the storyline. A unique set of main characters that will keep you guessing to the very shocking ending.
If you are a fan of Kimberly Belle’s novels, be sure to add this book to your list. You will love it.
If you haven’t read any of Kimberly Belle’s novels yet, make sure you check them out!
Well done Kimberly!
Fans of Gillian Flynn's "Gone Girl" will love this spellbinding read by Kimberly Belle. Her latest novel will have you turning pages late into the evening. Awesome story that had me wondering until the very end!
Beth Murphy is a woman on the run. Desperate to escape her abusive husband, she changes her looks and her name and hightails it across the country, intent on beginning a new life without the specter of her husband's violence overshadowing every move that she makes. The question is though....will he find her? Because we all know that he will not let her go that easily. He is coming after her. And he will make her pay.
Meanwhile, in Arkansas, Sabine Hardison is a missing woman. Floundering in a loveless marriage and planning to leave her jealous husband for her rich lover, she vanishes into thin air one afternoon. As her husband tries to defend himself, her crushed lover seems heartbroken. Which, if any of them, is lying? Has Sabine ALSO tried to escape and start a new life, or has one of the men in her like decided to exact revenge?
Seriously, this book had very similar shades of "Gone Girl." If you enjoyed that read, you definitely need to give this one a shot. I was hooked on the story lines, and couldn't wait to see how the two stories would eventually merge. And merge they did. When the final twist was revealed, I was shocked and can say that I did NOT see it coming. "Dear Wife" will have you rethinking every picture perfect married couple that you have ever seen. As we all know, rarely is marriage perfect, and skeletons can be found in most every closet.
A twisted tale of psychological suspense that will have readers grappling for the next clue....Beth has planned her escape down to the last detail. She left her abusive husband and is now trying to send him in the opposite direction with her misleading clues, but she must remain on the run until the chase is over.
Meanwhile, Jeffrey wakes up and his wife, Sabine, has also gone missing. There are no clues except for her abandoned car, and the local detective is determined to find answers. But will he find more than he bargained for?
Highly recommended!
This is my first novel by Kimberly Belle, and it won’t be my last. I absolutely loved this book,
When Sabine goes missing her husband is the prime suspect as she tries to escape an abusive marriage. Her husband tries to convince the police of his innocence. Sabine also has secrets of her own.
Later on in the book we meet a secondary character Beth, who is on the run,
I would love to say more, but do not want to give away any spoilers.
My best advice, request or buy, you will not regret it,
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Sabine is missing and no one knows where she would have gone. Not her husband. Not even her twin sister. So...where did she go? This story follows Marcus as he tries to solve Sabine's disappearance and Beth as she runs away from a miserable life. Will either of them succeed?
I really liked this book. We had a few different narrators in the story and plenty of mystery. I love how the author highlights the fact that, until we are in a desperate situation, we can't really be sure what we are capable of, whether that be stealing, lying, or going to new lows we never thought possible. For fans of a good psychological thriller, I can't recommend this book enough!
Kimberly Belle has done it again! Dear wife will make you think and think and over analyze everything! Will Sabine be found?!?! Will Beth’s plan really work? Does Ingrid know more than she lets on. Is the Doc a good one? Is Jeffrey a loving misunderstood husband? Once again the queen of endings will leave you with your jaw hitting the floor once everything comes full circle and is revealed!
I have been eagerly looking forward to Dear Wife since I found out it was being published. I was so excited to read it that I was almost afraid to start it in case I was disappointed, but that was not the case.
I was pulled in right away and got caught up in the characters and their stories so quickly that I didn't want to put the book down. Kimberly Belle just has a way of grabbing me and not letting go until the last page.
This book was excellent. Filled with suspense, fear, and lots of questions. I questioned everything and so completely thought I knew what was going on, but no...and not a little no...a HUGE no.
I was surprised, shocked and then curious if I'd missed a hint or two, but I don't think I did. What a wonderful story this author wrote. I won't forget it any time soon and I'm still going to go back and reread in case I missed something.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and author for approving my request for an ARC. All thoughts in this review are my own.
