I'd like to thank netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed the author's last book so I was curious to read this as soon as I saw it on here. While I did enjoy it, and it held my interest for the most part, I had to pick it up and put it down and I did enjoy Three Days Missing over this book.
Just finished reading and I’m catching my breath as I get my thoughts together. Wow. Dear Wife is a roller coaster of emotions, a thrill ride with a new shock around every corner. Beth is escaping from her life as an abused wife; her fear, and also her intelligence, are evident in every step she takes, every word she utters as she shares with us the terror that haunted her every day. The search for a missing woman and her attempt to flee a life of pain are on a collision course in this frenetic game of cat and mouse. This book is a riveting psychological thriller, but it is so much more than that...it is a tribute to all women who have been victims of abuse, who must be cunning and courageous to free themselves from those who inflict pain and fill their days with dread, and to regain the power and hope that they’ve lost.
This book was just ok for me. I'm bummed because I really liked The Marriage Lie but unfortunately I just couldn't get into this one. The whole book felt like a game of chase but not an exciting game. The wife left and the husband tries to find her. That's about it... 90 percent of the book where nothing big happened and I found myself not wanting to read anymore. Boo!
For over a year, Beth has been planning for this day; the day she goes on the run. Beth sees it as her new start and she knows that even one small slip up means that her violent husband will find her. A few hundred miles away, Jeffrey returns home to find that his wife Sabine is missing. Her abandoned car is the only clue that the police have and all the signs point to foul play. As the police continue their search, the case becomes more and more elaborate. Sabine’s plans show there is trouble at home and her husband would be better off without her. The detective running the case will stop at nothing to find out what happened.
I loved how the book started off with Beth running away and trying to figure out why she is running and who she is running from. I also enjoyed reading the entire book from Jeffrey, Beth and the detective to see how everything is going for each character. I couldn’t stop reading because I wanted to know who exactly Beth is running from and what the police are going to find out about her. I absolutely didn’t see the ending or the big twist coming, and I loved how different the ending was from the usual thrillers. I loved how many different untrustworthy males there were throughout this novel and how I couldn’t pin point which man was guilty. Once I knew the ending though, I could see all the little clues that the author dropped in throughout the book to misdirect you. I really enjoyed Beth’s character and the different situations that she got herself into trying to keep herself save from her husband. I also enjoyed the characters that she met along the way that were willing to help her along. I would definitely recommend this novel for those who enjoy a twisty thriller!
Pick it up June 25th!
This is a novel you do not want to miss. Kimberly Belle has done it again. I could not put this book down. I was hooked from page one. The story centers around the disappearance of an abused woman. The author expertly crafts the story from three different perspectives, the missing woman, the guilty looking husband, and the detective determined to get to the bottom of it.
Let me just say, my jaw literally dropped at some of the twists. The story telling was so precise I felt like I was right in the book. This was a non stop ride that I never wanted to get off.
Not only was this a great read, spousal abuse is so important to talk about and read about and the author creates complex characters that pull you into the story with such ease before you know it your tearing through the pages to find out whats going to happen to them.
Highly recommend this book and would be fantastic for book clubs discussions
I love all of Kimberly Belle’s books but this one I think is her best! It gripped me from the first page and kept me guessing until the last page. I read it in one night and didn’t want it to end. Great great read!
I am writing this as i pick my jaw up off the floor......there is a twist.....one i did not see coming!!!
DEAR WIFE is a story about an important topic domestic violence. Through the eyes of a runaway wife who was threatened, drugged, raped and beaten til she bled my heart broke with every page. Kimberly Belle discusses this topic and empowers the victim. Although tough to read at times, the detail allowed me to feel the urgency for the character.
I have always been addicted to true crime...during trials my eyes glued to the tv, thinking what motive the killers had. It's the same feeling I got with this novel. I couldnt stop reading because i was obsessed with finding out the truth. Finding the answer. Who killed the missing woman? Is she really dead? If she is dead who is this voice?
I have loved everything Kimberly Belle has written but this novel truly raises the bar.
I loved it and cant wait to discuss it when it hits the best seller shelf (for sure) in June!!!!!!
Best read of 2019 thus far. Counting down days until release.
Even if you've read any of her previous books you'll soon realize all of Kimberly Belle's books are unique and do not follow a formula.
Of course an abused woman is often times going to sneak away and she'll have to do it in a way to outsmart the abuser or face often times deadly consequences. This book is told from each characters Point Of View and it really adds depth and insight into the situation.
This is a fast paced story that will grab you from the start and you will not be able to put it down. Belle's humor and intelligence shines through in this one. It's her best one yet and will have you racing to keep up even when you kid yourself into thinking you're a step ahead.
This is really a fine read, twists and turns galore. The reader is told the story of the disappearance of an abused woman. The narrator, Beth, tells us her story, her fear and her plans to escape. We also hear the husbands story, denying guilt in her disappearance. Finally, the detective, determined to find the missing wife and connect this to the cruelty of her husband.
The escape plan is ingenious, name changes, new identity struggles. Each part of this makes us more sympathetic to the woman on the run, but this story is anything but the obvious. The author brilliantly foreshadows what the reader will learn, but with incredible subtlety.
I moved quickly through this book and finally figured out what had been laid out in front of me. I was hooked. I totally enjoyed this ride and will recommend this book without giving away any part of this mystery ride.
Great read, timely topic, spousal abuse. Reading groups will find plenty to discuss.
Wow! I sped through this book like a late-night train!
Kimberly Belle is at her best with her latest. A psychological thriller, mystery, who-dunnit all wrapped up into a delicious and thrilling ride with a killer twist you won't see coming.

Kimberly Belle is an auto buy author for me and one I recommend to all my reader friends. This is her very best book yet. It was like a roller coaster, the anticipation of having it in your hands so excited to read. Then the twists and turns keep you reading far into the night. I tried, I truly tried to savor it and read slow but honestly I just couldn't. If I wasn't reading, I was thinking about the characters and the story line and couldn't wait to get back to it. I thoroughly recommend this book if you love psychological thrillers that keep you reading way past your bedtime. I received an advanced readers copy from NetGalley and Harlequin Park Row. All opinions are my own.
Are you ready for a book that is riddled with secrets, mystery characters with questionable motives? If so, you’ve found your next read. Two women, Beth and Sabine are at the center of this story – Beth has run away from an abusive husband, eager to start a new life where she will be safe at last. Hundreds of miles away, Jeffrey has reported his wife Sabine missing. Most of her things have been left at home and her car has been found abandoned. Has she been kidnapped, or worse? You may think you know the answers just from this brief review, but think again. A twisted little masterpiece that will keep you on your toes
AMAZING! This is Belle’s best book! I found myself flying through it, trying to figure out the twists I knew were coming, and couldn’t wait to know. It was so chilling, it made me shiver with goosebumps. And so intriguing I was up way past bedtime. This is a must read for any Belle fan, and a must for any psychological thriller lover. It was done with respect to the subject manner; but still in a way that will give you goosebumps and chills!
I will be highly recommending in chapter chatter pub and making sure that I use in a challenge!
