I enjoy finding new authors to read but always approach their books with a bit of trepidation especially when I stumble upon them rather than finding them through a recommendation. Melonie Johnson is one such author and I am delighted to say that her books are well worth the read! I enjoyed this book and found myself becoming more and more of a fan with each page.

“Smitten by the Brit” is the second book by Melonie and though it can be read as a stand alone, I would recommend reading “Getting Hot with the Scot” first as it will help with the back story. The characters are introduced in the first book and the story loosely continues in this book.

Bonnie is a lover of all things Shakespeare and old English literature who can quote Jane Austen without blinking an eye. When she meets Theo, a handsome, dashing Englishman she finds herself in a bit of a quandry… she knows she should not be attracted to him as she is engaged but her fiancé is dragging his feet in setting a date. When her life is turned upside down by her unfaithful fiancé, she takes a job teaching in England and finds herself falling in love with the country and quite possibly with Theo.

Theo is a man of honor and his loyalty to his family creates a dilemma for him when it comes to Bonnie. She stirs feelings within him that he can’t deny but yet he knows what is expected of him by his mother and his title.

This book is a quick fun read and one you will enjoy. The chemistry between Bonnie and Theo cannot be denied and their romance is hot! No spoilers here so you will have to read the book to find out if family honor or love wins in the end!

This is the second book in the series and I have to say Bonnie and Theo’s story was way better than Cassie and Logan’s. They had great chemistry, witty banter and all around good time watching their HEA develop.

I definitely liked this one more than the first book. The storyline moved and I read a huge chunk of it in one sitting. I really liked Bonnie and Theo from the first book so it was nice to see how their HEA turned out.

Really cute book! I really enjoyed it! It was sweet, sexy and endearing. I had such fun reading it and I really needed a light read so this was perfect! I couldn't have asked for better!

Smitten by the Brit was very entertaining. I enjoyed all the references to Shakespeare and Austen. It definitely read like a Jane Austen novel. One thing I really like about Melanie Johnson's writings is her obvious knowledge and experience with London and Scotland's life and culture. When life brings Bonnie back to England that summer, Duke Theo is eager to have a relationship with her. His only problem is he is torn between what his heart wants and his family's obligations. Bonnie is recovering from a heartbreak and shattered dreams but finds Theo irresistible. It's a sweet story between the two of them.

I was super excited to see that the next book in the Sometimes in Love series would be about Bonnie and Theo. In Getting Hot with the Scot you could tell there was something brewing between them, though since Bonnie was engaged nothing happened. It was easy to tell in GHwtS that Bonnie's relationship was going to come to an end. Due to her jerk of an ex not being able to keep it in his pants Bonnie decides to take a job in London to get away from things and embrace new opportunities.

Bonnie and Theo have the kind of pull I love to read about, they're attracted to each other and don't quite know the best way about going about it. Theo is an Duke and his mother is expecting him to marry rich to help the family. Bonnie has only ever been in a relationship with Gabe.

Theo is adorable and sweet, though I wish he put his foot down a bit more with his family. I loved his sister Tabitha and how she absolutely pushed her way into things, in the best possible way.

Bonnie's BFF Cassie (from GHwtS) is getting married and I appreciated how Johnson handled that for Bonnie. She struggled a lot between wanting to be happy for her BFF, but also upset because she was the one who was supposed to be getting married (not in the spoiled brat way, but in the "I've been engaged for awhile and we should have set a date by now" way).

Smitten by the Brit was a fast paced read that I couldn't put down.

While I didn't find this story as entertaining as "Getting Hot With the Scot", I felt that it dragged a bit on certain parts, this was stilll a enjoyable read.
When it comes to the characters I found Bonnie's love for Jane Austen or Shakespeare endearing and something readers can relate to and while I did liked her, I admit her attitude sometimes made her a bit annoying to me, I found myself rolling my eyes or wanting to shake her a bit but it got better.. As for Theo, he radiates charm! the guy is definitely swoonworthy and total dream boyfriend material.

Overall it's a sweet, sexy and romantic story, I had a nice time reading it and I look forward to the next one!

This was a fun, sexy, well-written book. Bonnie is expecting to set a wedding date with her fiance, then she makes an unexpected discovery and they break up. Then she runs into Theo, someone she met the previous year in London. Fate brings Bonnie to London for the summer and she and Theo decide to have a friends-with-benefits fling. Bonnie and Theo are delightful, as are their friends and family.I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books by this author.

While I still enjoyed this book, it didn’t possess the charm I found in Getting Hot With the Scot. I appreciated the slower paced story and slow-burn romance between Bonnie and Theo, but their story had less shenanigans than in the previous book. I loved all the Shakespeare and Austen references, especially the line “you have bewitched me body and soul.”

Smitten by the Brit is a storyline with betrayal, some witty humor, and some romance mixed together. Bonnie and Theo have an entertaining relationship. I did find it a little slow at times like the other reviewers. Other than that it was a good read. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review after reading this arc.

Futures can be dreamed so your whole life is planned out, but with 1 night everything can change. Now Bonnie has to learn what it is like to truly be her own individual and see if she can learn to love again.

Loved this book - probably more than the first one, mostly because Bonnie and I like the same things lol. And I adored all the Chicago references which were obviously written by someone who knows this city - a big pet peeve of mine when watching Chicago med and fire.

The romance between Bonnie and Theo was sweet, the right build up and I really connected with th characters. I will definitely be continuing with the series.

There were a couple editing mistakes that need to be cleaned up before the final release - a big one is when Delaney and Bonnie are in the bar talking, Cassie’s name is used instead of Bonnie’s. I had 2 hours and 18 minutes left in the book where I saw this.

Historical Romance Meets Contemporary RomCom?! Yes, please!!!

Bonnie and Theo connected the first moment they met, there were just two small problems: she was engaged to someone else and he needed to marry a fortune. No, this isn’t a historical romance but rather an adorable contemporary with some divine nods to Jane Austen!

Almost a year after they first met, while trying to get their respective best friends together, Bonnie and Theo find themselves on the same side of the pond, desperately wanting each other, and facing some challenges to their HEA. Melonie Johnson is quickly becoming one of my new favorite contemporary authors as she does such a wonderful job of blending humor (that popsicle scene in the bridal salon is top notch!), heart (the nods to Sense and Sensibility and Lady Catherine), and sexy times (hello hill-top shed!).

I can’t wait to read the other friends’ stories and get a front-row seat to the rise of this very talented new author.

I received a complimentary review copy of this book but all opinions are my own.

Loved Bonnie in the previous installment of the series “Getting Hot with the Scot.” I could relate to her love of Austen and romance heroes. I enjoyed her interactions with Theo. I think if you enjoy contemporary romance then you will definitely enjoy this series!

3 full stars. I liked this a little better than the first book, but still felt it could have been tightened up with a few more revision passes with some heavy cuts. It felt repetitive in many instances. I think we’re told more than 3 times during her best friend’s rehearsal dinner scene that this is “practice.” We have many scenes with Bonnie getting her writing mojo back that seem very similar, rather than her building to something. She’s just...writing. What is she writing? Does she start to have a cohesive idea? A story? A play? We don’t know. She’s just buying and filling notebooks.

By the same token, some seemingly important scenes are left off the page entirely and only talked about after. Theo goes to several events with the woman his mother wanted him to marry, but we don’t experience any of his discomfort at them until after the fact, even though his needing money (and the girl is rich) is integral to his conflict. The wedding that a lot of the plot revolves around doesn’t occur on the page at all.

What did I like? The characters are charming and the Chicago scenes and settings have a great lived-in feel. Theo’s sister is very fun for the most part and integrates with the girlfriend group we got to know in the first group.

I was given an Advance Reader’s Copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was good, but not as good as the previous one in the series, Getting Hot with the Scot. I liked the hero and heroine and thought the plot was well-done. The sex scenes started to get a little too explicit for my taste, but overall, a satisfying read.

"Smitten by the Brit" is the 2nd book I have read from Melonie Johnson and it did not disappoint. Each of these books can be their own stand alone book, but also works great if you read them in order. There was just enough prequel in "Getting Hot with the Scot" to make me jump right into the next book. A great feel good romance book!

Smitten by the Brit by Melonie Johnson is a fun romance and quick read. Bonnie Blythe is attending a party alone, again, while her fiancé is home working on his dissertation. He was almost finished with grad school and she expected to finally set a wedding date. She leaves the party early to go home and surprise Gabe hoping to spend some time with him. The surprise is on her when she finds him with another woman in their bed. Devastated she leaves and a friend offers her the hotel suite her father uses when in town as he keeps it all the time. Bonnie is already a bit jealous as she is helping plan her best friend’s wedding to a man she met only months ago while on vacation in Scotland. She is the maid of honor and soon learns the British best man is in the suite down the hall. Bonnie is offered the opportunity to teach summer classes in England and jumps at the chance to get away. She can also take care of some things for the wedding that will take place in Scotland later in the summer. Will she and the best man hit it off while she is there? What will happen when she learns the secret he is keeping?
I liked this book. It was a quick and easy read. The characters are mostly realistic and while Bonnie is completely confused it can be attributed to the trauma of catching Gabe. I give this book 4 of 5 stars.
I received an advance copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

Oh, Theo was the best hero, a gentleman and a scholar.
Really understood the kind of character the heroin was and were able to connect.

Bonnie Blythe is an English professor who has been engaged many years to her long-term boyfriend with dreams of tomorrow as married and happy. Her best friend met a fellow overseas last year and within months Bonnie is helping to plan her wedding. Secretly Bonnie might be just a tad jealous that within months she was helping to plan a wedding that wasn’t hers. However, a shocking discovery leads Bonnie to end her engagement, and she decides to close the book on love. But in a romance novel - never say never.

Theo Wharton is like a romantic hero straight out of a Jane Austen novel - sexy, virile, handsome and impeccable manners. Fate has put Bonnie in England for the summer—to teach her favorite subject and conveniently very close to Theo. They had agreed to be friends-with-benefits but just as Bonnie begins to believe she's falling in love she learns a bitter truth that makes her take a step back. Will she forge ahead and tell him or hold off so he can complete his ‘duty’ to his family! Or, will she have the courage to risk her heart again?

The characterizations in this were spot on! I could truly feel Bonnie’s rage, disappointment and insecurity when she discovered her ex in HER bed with another woman! Devastating as it was - Bonnie had been true blue even when she had met the most devastatingly handsome Brit the year before and the physical attraction had been powerful. So to discover it had all been in vain – horrible!

So, giving in was only to discover that Theo was ten times more sexy, kind , courteous and such a superb lover she kicked herself that she’d wasted all that time with such a loser. But now she also discovers Theo’s secret and the fact that he was being nagged into a marriage of convenience by his mother - life couldn’t get much worse. But if you want to find out if it does or doesn’t you will just have to read this book!
