I loved the previous book in this series and I loved this one as well. I enjoyed the slow build of the relationship between Theo and Bonnie. After meeting as acquaintances in the first book, they reunite and develop a friendship, and eventually a romance that Theo allows Bonnie to set the pace of. The interactions and sexiness between them were realistic and enjoyable. The only disappointment I did have as a romance lover was that as far as the relationship went by the end, the words "I love you" were never spoken by either. Luckily, their other words and actions definitely conveyed their feelings.
Such a fun read. This is my favorite so far in this series. The strong interactions between the five friends and the life decisions to be made between Bonnie and Theo are engaging enough to make this an excellent read. There is plenty of story line along with the steam, to make this one of my top reads this year. Find a place on your shelf for this one.
I was so excited to read this book after finishing "getting hot with the scot". I loved seeing Bonnie and Theo finally get together. It was worth the wait. This was a fun and romantic story.
Melonie Johnson is back with another fabulous romance in her Sometimes in Love series. SMITTEN BY THE BRIT!
This time out, Bonnie and Theo get their chance at love and while there are moments of quirky humor, there is more uncertainty and sweetness in their budding love story. Wonderful chemistry, a dollop of chivalry and that certain British flare for composure play off the straightforward American way of things perfectly! Toss in some quirky literary mentions and this one is sure to leave readers smiling as two people, clearly perfect for each other stumble through the dance of love.
Sit back and enjoy some romance that will leave you sighing in contentment after a bumpy ride across the pond and a few secrets that could make a royal mess of things!

Bonnie Blyth, an English professor along with her best friends spend time during the summer to visit various countries in Europe. While in England, she meets Theo Wharton and is smitten. The problem is, she is engaged to another at home in America. An enjoyable summer read where "All's Well That Ends Well."
A nicely written, light-hearted romance involving best friends of best friends (maid of honor/best man). This is the second in series (I plan to go back and read the first), but could easily stand alone (although I feel I’ll get to know the extended cast better by reading the first).
This one involves an instant attraction, a bitter breakup, some humorous intimate moments, a big misunderstanding and some gingerbread....something for everyone! 😊
Out 5/28
I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC. Thanks to #NetGalley and #StMartins for the opportunity. The opinions are strictly my own.
I liked the first book in this series but I loved this one. Bonnie and Theo had great chemistry in the previous book and it was so satisfying to finally see them get together.
Theo is a charming and well mannered Brit who happens to be a duke and has swoon inducing dimples. He also feels that he must put the needs of his family before his own. Bonnie is a lover of all things Shakespeare and Austen. Suffering from heartbreak she is not sure of herself and not ready to jump into another relationship. But who can resist swoon inducing dimples?
There was a lot to love about this book.. It is full of humor and warmth. I love Bonnie and her group of friends and it was great catching up with Cassie and Logan. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A dashing British hero meets a charming British obsessed English literature professor from the States. What could go wrong?
Theo was the thoughtful, polite British gentleman of many girl's dreams. His politeness got a bit repetitive after a bit but they continued to make fun of him for it.
Now for some of my favorite bits. Anne of Green Gables references! Harry Potter hen party!! All the Austen references.
A sweet, hot, slow growing romance between these two.
I really enjoyed this one!! I loved Bonnie and was so happy to read a book from her perspective. This book was just dramatic enough and I enjoyed watching the romance develop and revisiting the friendships that were introduced in Getting Hot with the Scot. I’m excited to read book 3!
This contemporary romance is the second in a series. English professor Bonnie Blythe finds her life's plans derailed when she walks in on her fiance making love to another woman. Now a chance to teach a summer workshop at Cambridge seems like the perfect opportunity to begin her new life. She is also busy in her role as Maid of Honor at her best friend Cassie's destination wedding at a Scottish castle.
Helping to mend her broken heart is Theo Warton who is the best friend of Cassie's husband-to-be Logan. They all met in England when Bonnie, Cassie and some of their other friends made a trip of a lifetime. Bonnie was immediately attracted to Theo but rebuffed him because of her fiance at home. Theo was also attracted to Bonnie but family obligations as a Duke with estates on the edge of bankruptcy has him looking for an heiress to marry.
They meet again in Chicago right after Bonnie walks in on her cheating fiance and begin a relationship. But Theo's family obligations keep getting in the way of their relationship. Luckily, he has a very smart sister who isn't going to let him sacrifice his happiness.
I liked that the main character is surrounded by a strong circle of friends. I liked that she was a reader and a writer.
This is my first book by this author. This book is a part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. I enjoyed this sweet love story. There was not much drama and the adult romantic scenes were sweet and kept simple. The book focuses on the characters and how their love blooms. You do get a glimpse of what Bonnie's friends are up too in this book. The story was well written and you will want to see if all the girls will find their happily ever afters.
Well can't you just hear the snooty British upper crust accent? I swear I could as I read the book. Delightful fun in this book. A great story! So glad I read it.
Melanie Johnson does it again. I love the story of Bonnie & Theo & how we picked right up from the first book. I love that the focus is on Bonnie & Theo but we still get to go to Logan & Cassie’s wedding & see them married & where they are right now. The characters are all great & I'm loving getting to know them. I can’t wait to see where the next book takes us. Highly recommend this series!!
Much like Johnson's debut novel, Getting Hot With The Scot, My attention just wasn't grabbed by our main characters. I tried to keep an open mind with this one, but even through my attempts I felt like there was no growth with the author's writing which made it all but feel like the exact same as her Debut. I was forced to suspend belief a lot with the plot (more than I was comfortable with in a contemporary genre) and almost the entire story was completely predictable. With no connection, chemistry, or sexual tension I couldn't waddle my through this one any longer and gave myself permission to DNF it at 34%.
The second installment of the Sometimes in Love series does not disappoint. The book is very well written. Bonnie and Theo are definitely my favorite, until the next book... I love a book that makes me smile and laugh, this one did just that.
I loved that the hero was so gentlemanly and caring but unfortunately I didn't feel the chemistry between the couple and the heroine was one-dimensional to me. She was immature and it was annoying how she called the hero "Brit" all the time. That's just me but I can't stand when I person is called for his nationality.
I could see the potential but I just couldn't get INTO the story.

Smitten by the Brit is the second book in Melonie Johnson's Sometimes in Love series. We met both of the main characters, Bonnie and Theo, in Johnson's debut novel, Getting hot with the Scot. While you don't need to have read the first book to enjoy this one, I do think it helps to set up many of the characters who appear in the book.
When we meet Bonnie Blythe, she is engaged to her childhood sweetheart, Gabe, who has been reluctant to set a wedding date. Bonnie comes to find out the reason for them not setting a date is because he's been cheating on her for quite some time. Doing what she needs to do, she breaks the engagement, leaves their apartment and then really considers an offer she's gotten to be a guest professor for the summer session at Cambridge in the UK. Not only is Bonnie going to spend time in a part of the world that she is very drawn to because of her love of the classic writers and poets, there is also a certain Brit she met while on holiday there the previous summer that is still very much on her mind, especially after having just seen him in Chicago.
Theo is truly a gentleman. He's polite, he's cultured, he's well-mannered and oh yeah, he's the sixteenth Duke of Emberton. He's always had a bit of a hero complex and he knows that his first responsibility is to his family due to the fact that his father has left them in near financial ruin. Theo is now doing everything he can to try to pull his family out of the red and back into the black, but his mother only sees one way to do that and that is for him to marry a woman from a wealthy family. A woman that his mother deems worthy of becoming a duchess. The problem with that is that Theo only has thoughts and feelings for one woman, but he's very well aware of his familial responsibilities.
You can't help but feel the sparks between Theo and Bonnie when they are in the same room together. They get one another on a level that others haven't and they are extremely comfortable around one another from the outset. The biggest question is will they be able to withstand spending so much time together as they are the best man and maid of honor in their best friends wedding while they are fighting their feelings knowing that they can't have the happy ending they want due to Theo needing to save his family name?
I really enjoyed this story and found it easy to read. I'm really interested to see what else Ms. Johnson has to offer in this series. This was another great addition and I look forward to book three!
I enjoyed the first book in the Sometimes In Love series and Smitten with the Brit (book#2) was just as enjoyable! The story of Connie and Theo was sweet, sexy and entertaining. I loved their banter and the dynamic between the two of them. Since I'm not a Shakespeare fan, the quotes were just meh to me but overall, the story was delightful. I did enjoy all of the secondary characters and thought they brought so much more to the story!
I received an advanced review copy of this book.
This is the second book in the series and it was nice to follow up on the characters from the first book. I think this type of book is hard to write. Despite one knowing Bonnie and her boyfriend are not meant to be together, they were set to get married. Having them break up and Bonnie get set up with a new love interest right away is hard to pull off. I think the romance between Theo and Bonnie was impacted by Bonnie having to transition from the break up. Despite this, I did enjoy the story and it was a fun read. I loved reading about all the locations they visited in the UK.
I adored this story! I felt like it had a little bit of everything. The characters were fun and the while time I was rooting for them. I believe there is a book before this one with Cassie's love story and I am going to read it next! It was a perfect light read for the weekend with just enough steamy to match the humor through out. Loved it!
