After finishing "Getting Hot with the Scot" I was thrilled to start this book. Bonnie was a character that I was really excited to see unfold. I was waiting for her engagement to end in the previous book, so I was glad when it happened so fast in this one!
I loved Theo in the first book, so obviously I fell in love with him even more in this one, "Prince Eric". Swoon!
This is Smitten By The Brit, book 2 of the Sometimes in Love series, written by Melonie Johnson. This book is my first venture into the world created by Ms Johnson, but judging from how much I loved this book...it will not be my last. You can’t help but love Bonnie and cheer for her as she tries to take her life and wrestle in back under control. Add in a devastatingly handsome Brit named Theo and sparks are flying everywhere!! It caught into flames several different times too. Now I’m going to stalk Ms Johnson and add her to my TBR list, right at the top!
I was so excited to read this second book in the Sometimes in Love series.
We met Bonnie and Theo in Getting Hot With the Scot (go read that!!!). Despite Bonnie being engaged, her chemistry with Theo is off the charts! They both try to deny their attraction but they’re thrown together because of their friends wedding (Logan and Cassie...go read Getting Hot With the Scot!!).
I admit I was skeptical on how they would make a relationship work, for reasons you’ll find out when you read this!! Melonie Johnson does a great job of keeping you guessing until the very end. I would definitely recommend this series and this book for your reading pleasure.
5 stars!!!
Oh sigh. My heart is all aflutter. I found my dream man and he lives in a book. Oh Theo I’m going to have to pine for you from afar. I loved this book and all the wonderful characters in this story. Charming. Heartwarming. Sigh-worthy.
This was a cute book. I enjoyed Theo's character more than I did Bonnie's but they were a believable couple together. I think the pacing was a bit off in this book. The first 45% of the book occurred over 2-3 days, where Bonnie found out her fiance was cheating on her and she had a job interview. The last half of the book was over many months and felt rushed. I wished we heard more about Bonnie's summer teaching job. Overall a decent book but not one I'll return to.
This is the second book in a cute and funny romance series. Bonnie and her friends toured Europe in the previous book where her BFF, Cassie found a Scot and brought him back like a souvenir. While on holiday Bonnie met the Scot's BFF, Theo. Bonnie and her girlfriends all thought he was handsome, but Bonnie began crushing on him. Theo is straight out of one of her British novels - the Austen hero. But...she is engaged to be married to someone back home. This book is about what happens when you take a chance on a once in a lifetime opportunity and that fate might have something to do with your choices. I highly recommend this series if you are looking for a light book about friendship and romance.
I loved the first book so much, I immediately started the 2nd book in the series! It was definitely better to have read the first book to understand where this one picks up with Bonnie and Theo’s story. All the girls and guys from the first book (Getting Hot with the Scot) are back in (Smitten by the Brit) to prepare for Logan and Cassie’s wedding.
I love that Bonnie and Theo get their own book! So many things happen in this book for both of them, I was starting to wonder if the characters (and the readers)😉 were ever going to get their HEA!
I requested and received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. This is my honest review!
I was eager to continue Bonnie and Theo's story. In Getting Hot With The Scot, her best friend Cassie meets, and falls in love with a man, who has a best friend Theo. Theo and Bonnie have obvious sparks, but Bonnie is engaged to her childhood sweetheart, who is reluctant to set a wedding date. The end of Bonnie's engagement was pretty obvious, and, hello, its a romance novel, of COURSE the characters are going to fall in love following major hurdles, but it was nice to see the way their story evolved. I can't wait to read the love stories of Sadie, Ana and Delaney!
Oh, man! How I loved this book!
Since I first read Bonnie and Theo in Getting Hot with the Scot I knew their story would be epic. And Smitten by the Brit didn't disappoint me. Bonnie has to face a new development in her life after a longstanding relationship, and this "new chapter" in her story put her back in Theo's path, and this time she has also to face her unresolved feelings for him. But is this a new chapter or a brand new story? That's for Bonnie to decide and Theo, always the gentleman, give her that power in every step of their journey. But once she chooses him all the bets are off.
Both characters were charming and lovely, their chemistry was insanely hot and every single time they were in the same room things got EXPLOSIVE! Bonnie is stubborn and strong, and she has this need to find herself after a difficult situation (I'm not telling you what); and Theo has this "hero complex" always putting everyone's needs first, but this is the his chance to pursuit his own happiness. Their story isn't an easy one, but it's oh so worthy. Also, we get to see how Logan and Cassie are doing after their own HEA, so that's a plus.
As soon as I finished this I wanted to read the others in the series including the one I missed, Hot for the Scot. (Another cute title)
I really enjoyed this book. The writing is witty. It’s fast moving and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Delightful! I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series, but in this one, it's obvious that Ms. Johnson's writing skills are improving by leaps and bounds!
Often the characters in romance series are rather shallow and all sound alike. Fortunately, that is _not_ the case in the Sometimes in Love series. Theo and Cassie's story was really interesting and had some neat real-life twists and turns. I especially like the fact that Johnson doesn't fall into the trap of "I'm not asking the obvious question so the conflict will go on for another 50 pages."
I realize I'm defining the book by what it isn't, but what it _is_ is fun, quick to read and engaging. Definitely enjoyable!
Charming read with fun characters. Bonnie has had her life planned out forever-she's been engaged to her childhood sweetheart for a year, with no date set yet but when her best friend meets, dates, gets engaged and the date set all in under a year makes Bonnie wonder when it's her turn. When coming home unexpectedly finds her fiance with another woman on her grandmother's (yes, gasp) quilt her world changes course. Meeting engaged Bonnie last summer has Theo wanting what he can't have but when Bonnie's world suddenly changes he so wants to the her knight in shining armor-he definitely has a need to save everything-damsels and his family estate. Bonnie may be a damsel in distress that tends to take flight rather than confront her problems but she doesn't want Theo stepping and saving the day, she is after all a grown woman. Even with their strong attraction they don't fall easily, obligations factor in too.
After reading Getting Hot With the Scot, I was thrilled to see this follow-up where Theo and Bonnie get together. Once again, Melonie Johnson's wit, sensitivity, and rich characterizations create a sexy, exciting story I can't wait to recommend to others. Five stars!
This author was recommended by Julie James...soooo I’m in! This is the first book I have read in this series, but I will fix that ASAP. Theo and Bonnie were a great couple. I enjoyed their developing romance and the interactions with their friends and family.
Smitten by the Brit by Melonie Johnson was refreshing. It didn’t develop in a predictable way and the love scenes seemed more authentic since they didn’t appear overly choreographed and perfect.
Fun, sexy contemporary romance.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC
This is a nice story for fans of a modern day Jane Austen type tale, and it is full of literary references but at the same time contemporary and fun. The plot is time honored, with enough twists to keep it from being rote. Land rich and cash poor Brit needs to marry well to save the family estate, but falls in love with an American girl who does not have that kind of assets. American girl, who has had her future planned for years, discovers her long term finance cheating and reconnects with the Brit she met and was attracted to s year before when she was still engaged. We all know how this ends, but there are numerous unexpected turns on the path which makes it fun getting there.
We all have different styles of story telling that we prefer, and this one was a little heavy on the internal dialogue for me. But the overall telling of it was nice, and the characters, especially the Duke's family, were very engaging. This book was an enjoyable change of pace.
Super cute story. I loved Bonnie and Theo. Based on the cover/blurb, I was expecting more of the book to take place in the UK (it didn't get there until about 50%) but that didn't detract from the story at all.
Must love Jane Austen.
Bonnie Blythe is a professor.
She's newly engaged, but well, that didn't work out.
Theo Wharton is British,
He's the quintessential charming Brit, (its the accent, ladies) and when Bonnie is in England, she figures Theo is FWB material.
But is there more in store for these two?
Charming.
After reading Cassie and Logan’s story, I couldn’t WAIT to read Bonnie and Theo’s and I have to say, it didn’t disappoint! After taking a summer position at Cambridge, Bonnie and Theo reconnect and fireworks begin. With a dash of meddling mother, a few awesome sisters and a heavenly lake house, we finally find out if Bonnie will get her happily ever after with her Duke!
Wow...what a rough ride for Theo and Bonnie. But it was certainly a romance from beginning to end. Hurt and disgusted with her ex-fiance, Bonnie isn't sure about her feelings for anyone. Trying to do the right thing for his snooty mama, Theo isn't sure what to feel about anything. Good thing Theo's sister has a way to make people see what they should. Perfect ending for this lovely couple!!
