I enjoyed reading The Winemaker's Secret. The author did a really good job in this novel of making it interesting and developing the characters so well you feel like you know them. Thank you.
Abby Harrington’s family owns, operates at successful winery at Starlight Cove and overlooking the beautiful coast. On the night of Abby’s grandparent’s 60th wedding anniversary, their priceless and rare collection of iced wine is stolen. Her grandfather also has a plane crash, he ends up in intensive care and is it just a coincidence the two tragic events happened on the same evening?
Abby’s brother Dean comes home for his grandparents anniversary, they haven't seen him in years, he’s had a problem in the past with drugs and she's praying he has nothing to do with the crime. Abby starts getting threatening messages, she wonders who she can trust, including members of her own family and long term employees working at the winery. Abby's grandmother has been keeping a secret and the last person Abby would have expected is behind the robberies and blackmailing her grandmother.
I received a copy of The Winemaker's Secret from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review, a story full of mystery, family secrets and intrigue and four stars from me.
The Winemakers Secret by Cynthia Ellingsen I found the story to be very good and had a very good plot. I like historical and women’s fiction and this book fit both categories with a little suspense thrown in.
Most of Abby’s life is wrapped up in her family’s vineyard. Her grandparents started it and most of her family works there. She’s always dreamed that she’d be in charge one day but her grandfather seems hesitant to turn it over to her.
On her grandparents’ wedding anniversary, her family’s priceless stash of ice wine is stolen. Before Abby can tell everyone, her grandfather has an accident and winds up in the hospital.
Everyone thinks it’s for the best that no one tells grandma.
Several other interesting things happen around the same time:
Abby’s brother Dean resurfaces after many years apart from the family. He’s a former drug addict and Abby is very suspicious of the timing on his arrival.
Abby meets and handsome doctor when her grandfather has his accident.
A mysterious box is found on the vineyard property. After some investigating on Abby’s part, a much bigger family secret emerges.
Lots of drama hits this family at once and most of it falls onto Abby’s shoulders.
Another enjoyable book by this author. She’s becoming a go-to for me.
This book is in a series, I have read the other books in this series but accidentally read two after three. So, this book does work as a stand alone novel but I’d recommend all three.
I got to read an early copy from NetGalley. Thanks!
Abby Harrington is enjoying the sixtieth anniversary of her grandparents when a horrific accident stops the celebration. Abby finds herself taking care of the family winery on her own for the first time on her own while other family members deal with the family emergency. Her long lost brother, Dean, returns after living in Chicago thinking he is going to take over. As Abby struggles to keep the winery afloat she has to deal with a theft and a secret that could cost the family business. I loved this book!!!!! It is a fun read but I will warn you, you will want to have a bottle of wine handy while you are reading this story.
I really enjoyed The Winemaker's Secret. I loved the setting and felt like the author. I felt like I was with her there in the room. Mystery, romance and more - loved it.
I received an ARC copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Great easy read. As the book opens., Abby’s grandparents are celebrating their anniversary. Pappy takes his plane up for a celebration and ends up crashing the plane and is rushed to the hospital and placed in a medically induced coma. While the family rallies at his side Abby faces the memories of a terrible childhood Illness that landed her in the hospital. During the celebration, , the vineyard’s supply of ice wine comes up missing. As Abby attempts to solve the mystery of the missing wine she uncovers a mysterious box with a key that leads to a safety deposit box. The contents confuse Abby even more as she attempts to find the ice wine and deal with the return of her “black sheep” brother Dean. Also Co fusing the mix are her feelings for the handsome doctor Braden and missing money for the business.
The Winemaker ‘s Secret is a well written romantic suspense. I enjoyed the plot, setting and the author’s writing. Couldn’t put this book down. Highly recommend this book to fans of suspense. My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my digital arc. This is my unbiased review.
This book was fine. It got better at the end. The family dynamics were bothering me. For such a close family, they seemed to be mean to each other sometimes. It seemed out of character. But the mystery was good.
The novel jumps straight into the plot.
Throughout the book we follow Abby’s journey of struggles
The writing style was good. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep the mystery alive.
This book was a little slow in the middle but the ending was amazing.
Thank you to the Publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity to read this wonderful book for review. My opinions are my own.
This is the second in series. You do not need to read the first to understand the characters as the author does a excellent job of introduction .
Abby Harrington is attending the celebration of her grandparent’s sixtieth wedding anniversary. They are the owners of Harrington Vineyard a very successful winery.. Abby and her Grandparents are very close. One of their prize collections is their pride and joy.
Her Brother Dean, returns and her grandparents prized wine collection disappears and then her grandfather nearly dies in a small mysterious plane crash. Abby is sure her Brother is involved and fears he may have tried to kill her Grandfather.. She decides to investigate her Brother's dealings and soon is immersed in clues .
The Winemaker’s Secret was a enjoyable read. It has a good strong plot, .likable characters and a pleasant setting with the vineyard descriptions. I look forward to the next in series.
I really enjoyed The Winemaker's Secret. I loved the winery setting and felt like the author did a great job transporting me to sitting in the wine tasting room. There is mystery, romance, some unsavory characters and a whole lot of wine drinking. Great book! I look forward to reading the first book in this series.
The Winemaker's Secret was a fun read. One got to know the main characters and the plot is engaging. I didn't know the book was part of a series, but I want to read the first book as well now.
What a fabulous book! With just enough history and suspense to keep in really interesting. The author keeps us guessing throughout the book and I loved the surprises she had in store for us! As a "Cork Dork", I also really enjoyed the many wine-related facts sprinkled through this book :) The romance factor comes into play as well and I hope I am correct in sensing a possible sequel to wrap a few more details up! I would definitely recommend this book!
Abby and her family have dedicated their entire life to the vines and their vineyard. That someone is trying to destroy their reputation and even sabotage their lives is becoming apparent and it is up to the youngest two Abby and her prodigal brother Dean to see to it. It does not help that Dean is a former drug addict who broke their parents heart, disappeared for years and is it is a coincidence that the troubles are beginning with his sudden appearance.
Abby has a fragile past. Beset with illness and lack of self confidence, this is a trait that is holding her back from her full potential. Her father and grandfather are not willing to let the reigns go to someone who is not confident to face people and Abby knows she has to overcome these fears to move forward.
Very descriptive of the countryside in which the book is set, the story of this wine making family is very detailed and interesting.
Abby Harrington has always worked in the family vineyard in Starlight Cove although she has struggled to get her grandfather to take her seriously, with him always favouring her brothers. On the night of the big party to celebrate her grandparent's sixtieth wedding anniversary a robbery takes place and the valuable collection of ice wine is stolen and then her Grandfather is left fighting for his life following a plane crash. Determined to find out who committed the robbery Abby starts investigating on her own but will she find more family secrets from the past than she bargained for and what part is her brother Dean, the recovering addict, playing in all this.
A good story with plenty of intrigue and hints of romance with the doctor and the ex boyfriend's returning from Chile. I didn't realise that it was the second in a series and it didn't matter at all that I hadn't read the first one, but will go back and do so now.
The strong, well-developed characters make this book. Abby, especially, is real - vulnerable and strong all rolled into one. I enjoyed the inside look at the life of a large winemaking family, and the intertwined mysteries kept me guessing with their twists and turns. I wondered as I read just how Ms. Ellingsen would tie it all together and was pleased by the ending. Although The Winemaker's Secret is the second in a series set in Starlight Cove, it is completely stand alone.
I loved this book set in the charming small town of Starlight Cove.
The story revolves around Abby and her family who own Harrington Wines. There is a mystery, family secrets and a budding romance.
A family treasure is stolen and Abby finds a mysterious wooden box with a key inside. They key leads her to a secret past that she never expected. Meanwhile her brother returns to town and Abby can't quite tell exactly what he is up to.
I loved all the vivid descriptions of the winery and the small town. It felt like a place I would love to visit.
I received an ARC eBook from the publisher and Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
I was looking forward to returning to Starlight Cove. It was fun to return to the familiar characters and places from The Lighthouse Keeper (first book in the series). You don't need to read the first book, as they are standalone stories.I
Abby tries to unravel the mystery of who's stealing from their family winery all while her grandfather is recuperating from a plane crash. Her older brother, Dean returns after being away many years following problems with addiction and ready to step up to a management role in the winery.
There's a bit of romance for Abby with the new doctor and an old flame, who returns from Chile. All while she's investigating the theft of a valuable wine collection. There's a bit of tension among the winery employees as well as with the owners of the newest winery on the Michigan peninsula where Starlight Cove is located. All in all, a good story I would recommend, although I enjoyed the first book more. I'm hoping that Dean and Kelcee's story will be up next in the series.
Great read. The author wrote a story that was interesting and moved at a pace that kept me engaged. The characters were easy to invest in.
