Disappointing, compared to the first volume. More emphasis on action made it less interesting to me, although younger readers might like all the running about. Not sure they will get all the jokes about Richard Nixon being a time-traveling team leader, though. A time loop plot line may be confusing or hard to follow for some readers.
Even more action packed than the first. I read it so quickly that it was over before I even realized! Several laugh-out-loud moments.Even more action packed than the first. I read it so quickly that it was over before I even realized! Several laugh-out-loud moments.
I really love this series so I was very excited to get to read the second volume. I really think that this is a great sci-fi graphic novel for kids. It shows a lot of really great teamwork and has a fun time travel aspect to it. There were times where I had to pay really close attention to what was being said and what was happening in the panels to understand what was going on. It certainly did not hamper the great experience though. I would highly recommend this book to anyone but especially to kids that are looking to get into the sci-fi genre especially.
I really enjoyed the first volume of this series and was looking forward to reading this one. I liked it but thought it wasn't as strong as the first volume. I think patrons that enjoyed the first book will find enjoyment in this one.
I reviewed this on my blog and will give the publisher the details during the next round of this process.
Love this book so much more than the first. I can't wait to add it to my classroom and for more in the series to be written and released. I really love this Epoch Squad so much!
Librarian: This is one of many fun graphic novel series currently out that appeal to the Middle School Market. There's certainly no shortage of Graphic Novels to choose from, and I understand that it's a struggle to choose the best fits. That Being said, I think that this one is a good choice for a lot of libraries. Its blend of sci-fi adventure and typical young teen drama mean that it should appeal to a wide swath of readers.
Reader: I truly loved the first book in this series. It was a great ride that made me smile from beginning to end. And after that ending I really wanted to know what would happen next. This one didn't quite live up to expectations. I really wanted to love it like I did the first one, but in the end, I just found it fine. Not bad, but not great either. Still I remain curious about what comes next. I'll definitely read the next one.
Review to be posted on GoodReads on May 28, 2019:
Our heroes and heroines just managed to survive and succeed in their first time mission mostly by luck. They’re now in intense training and the leaders even have them merged in as shadows of another squad with none other than President Nixon as their new leader. None of them are too happy about this, but they do admit they need more knowledge before heading into the field again. And Delia and Titus keep bumping heads. They soon get called in to help when sensors indicate something is whacky with the timeline in Versailles in the 1700s. Are they prepared for just HOW whacky things really are and can they fix the problems?
Get ready for another wild ride through time! That second half of the book especially takes a lot of close reading and observing of pictures to follow well. Which isn’t bad. It would kind of be a disappointment if a time travel adventure didn’t get a little wild and weird. I like the personal development that’s also happening, and the building of skills among the team members. The mystery of what caused the rift between the Earl and Lyndon also gets a little development and a mind-blowing ending to this book. It was a really interesting choice to have Nixon as their leader, but it wasn’t bad. I had students asking me before Christmas when this book would be coming out. They are quite eager for it to hit the shelves and I don’t think they’ll be disappointed, but they will be just as eager for book 3 to come asap. I’ve had several students read the first book that were sucked in because it was a graphic novel with an attractive cover even though I’ve never seen them reading any other time travel books or scifi in general for that matter, so it seems to be a good gateway book for them to taste test whether they like those genres. This entire series is recommended if you’re looking for a book to get a reluctant reader devouring a book, and as mentioned, get those who might think they don’t like scifi sneaking over to check out other scifi books. And of course, hand this to those faithful scifi/time travel fans, and graphic novel fans.
Notes on content: No language issues. No sexual content (there’s an almost kiss, but nothing happens). Some perilous situations but everyone seems to end up ok.
I received an ARC of this title from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Delia and her time-traveling squad are off on another adventure, this time to Renaissance France. With some help from a notorious 20th century president and some future friends, the team solves their time rift problem. Along the way they learn about time loops, what they mean to each other, and one traveler learns the Grey Earl's secret.
This book was AWESOME! Loved the characters! The story is EPIC! The artwork is AMAZING! I look forward to reading more!
Just as I truly enjoyed the adventure in the first The Time Museum graphic novel, I found the continuation of the story delightful! It is full of adventure and looks at the importance of teamwork and preparation!
I recently finished the first volume and was eager to read the second. The ensemble cast is just as fun, the plot just as much of a page-turner, and the ENDING! I need more already. I really hope we see more of Pauline in the future, and that her relationship with Delia is explored more fully and not just used as a plot device for Delia and her teammate.
