The Step-by-Step Guide to 200 crochet stitches. Can it get any better than this? I never knew there were so many different crochet stitches. To start with, the book is just plain fun to look at and go - WOW. And it has been fun to take some yarn and a hook to just play around with trying different stitches.

I loved the directory of stitches at the very beginning of the book. I thought the explanation for each stitch was very understandable. The accompanying pictures were an added bonus. All in all, this is a great book for all skill levels of crochet. I see me keeping this for as long as I am able to crochet and think it will make a wonderful book to share. Although good luck getting it out of my grubby little hands!

My thanks to F+W Media and Netgalley

I'm an avid crochet fan or "hooker". I can spend hours happily crocheting or looking for my next project. Some issues always come up with the differing stitches. Yes, you can spend time watching a video 20+ times trying to figure it out but for me, it's easier when you have a reference book. And this is an excellent reference book. Clear directions, easy to follow along and beautify pictures of what your results should look like. With this book, my practice swatches clearly look like the examples. That's a sure way to keep this "hooker" happy. Recommended for any level since the stitches range from start to OMG that's beautiful!

A great reference for beginning to advanced crocheters. The table of contents includes a tiny photo of what each stitch looks like, so you can find your desired section by name or appearance. Each stitch has its own page of instructions with photo, step-by-step guide, and stitch chart. And the color palette of yarn used is charming!

This book should be a must in your craft library if you're into crochet. It is beautifully illustrated and has easy to read instructions. The table of contents makes finding a certain stitch easy to find and the pictures will encourage to try something new. For both the expert and the novice this should be an enjoyable read. The author uses bright contrasting colors for clarity and easy to see changes in rows and the instructions are by the picture. I highly recommend this as a gift for anyone you know that is a crochet beginner or expert including yourself. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I think this is a great book of crochet stitches! Both for beginners and for experienced. A beginner could easily learn different stitches with the clear pictures and the graphic illustrations. An experienced crocheter can get inspiration for his/her projects. I enjoy making baby and big blankets and shawls and easily see myself coming up with a new pattern based on one or more of the stitches in this book. In fact I like this book so much that I will be hunting down a paper version of it!

This is an excellent resource for beginning or experienced crocheters. The descriptions are clear and precise, with charts of the stitches. The author also gives suggestions of what item could be made from the stitches.
Highly recommended.

Stitches are very clear, and the directions are concise. I like that it has the way it would be charted in a pattern underneath each stitch. This item is great for beginner to advanced crocheters, and would come in handy when looking for a stitch to use for various projects. Seems very similar to another crochet book that I have, perhaps slightly more updated though!

Very informative, although I would put the directions on how to actually crochet in the beginning. More helpful for us beginners.

A truly valuable book detailing very well the variety of crochet stitches. As a long-time crocheter, I found quite a few stitches that I had not known before, including a beautiful chain fringe that I just added to a cowl! Amazing book and highly recommended.

The Step-by-Step Guide to 200 Crochet Stitches by Tracey Todhunter

Like the book from the first table of content pages because it breaks the stitches into categories and color code them as well!

Categories are: Basic; fans and shells; clusters, puffs and popcorns; spike stitches; raised stitches; mesh and filet; lace and openwork; waves and chevrons; textured stitches; tunisian stitches; colorwork and edgings.

There is also a table of contents about other important things you'll need to crochet.

There is a foreword, about the book and then the patterns themselves.

Each pattern has a medium size color photo up close so you can see the stitches along with an explanation with diagrams of how to make the swatch.

What I like about the book is I knit for charity and they want baby afghans for the program they have and provide me with the yarn. The patterns I can make up and what I like is I have this resource book now that I can combine a few of the patterns to make a nice homemade afghan for the newborn.

I do not have a favorite I want to try them all. Very clear and concise directions.

Besides the written word there are also charts if you remember how to read them.

The section on crochet skills talks about materials you will need, yarn weight charts, hook charts, and other gadgets that will make it easier to do the project.

Basic techniques are shown in pictures along with explaining what to do and yes there are charts about the symbols and abbreviations used. They also explain how to read a charted pattern.

An index is enclused at the end. Author's acknowledgements are included at the end also.

A KEEPER, such a simple book but made easier by color coding and techniques they use to explain how to make the stitches.

Received this review copy from F+W Media and Interweave via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

If you enjoy crocheting, this book would be a good one to add to your crafting books. It is chock full of 200 basic and not-so-basic crochet stitches, including some intriguing ones like Embossed Shells, Four-Leaf Clover, Popcorn Mesh, Granny Spike Stitch, Post Stitch Stripes, Little Arcs, Textured Wave, Tunisian Honeycomb, and Crown Picot Edging.

I've been crocheting for over 30 years, and I saw some old friends and some new ones that make me want to dig out my hooks and yarn and start playing around with these stitches! I can think of no better recommendation of a book than that.

You definitely need to have a good sense of basic crochet, like how to do a chain, single crochet, double crochets, post stitches, etc. The Basic Stitches section at the front of the book does not contain these simplest of stitches; rather those stitches are more along the lines of slightly altered basic stitches like the Purl Slip Stitch and Shallow Single Crochet. There is a section called Crochet Skills in the back which does show some crochet basics, but many of the stitches in the main part of the book are complex enough that you’d want to have some solid experience under your belt before you attempt them. You don’t need a lot of experience, just enough to feel comfortable working with crochet projects.

The stitch sections in the main part of the book include Basic Stitches; Fans & Shells; Clusters, Puffs, & Popcorns; Spike Stitches; Raised Stitches; Mesh and Filet; Lace & Openwork; Waves & Chevrons; Textured Stitches, Tunisian Stitches; Colorwork; and Edgings. Each stitch has a full-color photo of multiple rows as well as up-close pictures of the yarn and hook every one or two steps. There is also a stitch diagram if you prefer working with those. If you are a visual learner, it's nice to see exactly what you're supposed to do or what the result is.

My only complaint is that some of the yarn and hook combinations don't show enough contrast between the yarn and hook colors. For instance, there's a whole set of stitches that use a golden yarn with what looks like a light wooden hook. These two colors blend together too easily and you don't see the contrast.

Again, if you love to crochet, I would suggest picking this book up, digging out your hooks, busting into your stash, and start having fun!

Well this was a delightful surprise.
Filled with fantastic patterns of each stitch complete with pictures, not only of the completed work but also the steps to achieve said stitch.
I tried out a few lines of the Climbing Vine, Almond, Woven Lace and Tunisian Mesh stitches without issue using the directions and pictures to guide me.
I am looking forward to giving the Flower Garden and Catherine Wheel stitches a try on some upcoming projects.
There is a basic intro of crochet at the back of the book making this perfect for novice and experienced hookers alike.
I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves (or is interested in loving) crochet.
Thank you NetGalley and F+W Media for this DRC.

Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to review The Step By Step Guide to 200 Crochet Stitches. I loved this book. I hope that I can do many of the stitches in this book. The instructions are very clear and the author makes it look so simple. I am challenged when it comes to recreating what I see in books, hopefully this book will change that.

I received a free copy of THE STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO 200 CROCHET STITCHES by Tracey Todhunter from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This book contains explanations of how to perform various regular and Tunisian crochet stitches. In addition to a list of written instructions, each pattern has two photographs to clarify the written directions. The patterns include ribs, textures, and lace. Very nice!

There has been a few of these of The Step-by-Step Guide to 200 Crochet Stitches out to purchase on the market in the past. However, when this book "The Step-by-Step Guide to 200 Crochet Stitches by Tracey Todhunter" came up to read and review I had to request and read etc. I have only been crocheting for over a year now and I've purchased lots of manuals on how to improve my new hobby.

This book is the Best so far and had to be purchased. This book has very clear written instructions and bright illustrations of how to work each stitch used in the patterns as well as a key for the chart symbols. throughout. Every new stitch is explained in an easy to follow way with a clear photo or picture of the stitch and how to achieve it, which was easy to follow.

Great Book for all crocheters..........A must Book to add to your growing collection.

Highly recommend this Fantastic book.

Big Thank you to Netgalley fo an ARC.

As a very experienced crocheter, I find myself wanting to be challenged with new stitches. This book does exactly that! There are a variety of stitches available for all skill levels, and the explanations are very clear.

This was a really well set out book of crochet stitches. I loved the 'Directory of Stitches' at the beginning with a small square photo of the stitch underneath. You could just scan through the list and decide on which stitch you wanted. It was set out in sections, i.e. fans and shells, spike stitches, etc., very handy.

There were very clear sections on how to read the patterns and charts with lots of lovely pictures of finished stitches. The layout was very clear, either one or a couple of different stitches on each page with a clear photo and instructions in both text and chart underneath. Also useful sections on different techniques and equipment at the end.

I was very impressed, a lot of work has gone into thinking about the layout of this book to make it as easy to read as possible. In my opinion it's an essential book to add to your crochet library, and it's definitely an addition to mine!
