I'm always on the look-out for magical creature picture books, especially unicorns. UNICORN DAY by Diana Murray is a super fun rhyming picture books that I'm sure my school kid will check out over and over. Illustrations are bright and silly, will keep students engaged during read aloud. I cannot wait to add it to UNICORN DAY to my library.
A fun book about a day that is all about celebrating unicorns! Unicorn day is all about having fun with your unicorn friends, but what will happen when they find someone pretending to be a unicorn at the celebration? Will the unicorns let him stay?
A colourful book filled with rainbows and unicorns. My daughter loves both of these things, so this book has become one of her current reads.
Thanks Netgalley for the preview!
Unicorn Day is sure to please the young unicorn lover in your life. Full of rainbows, friendship and of course, glitter all of the unicorn greatest hits are here.
At first glance, this looks like a pretty frivolous book full of unicorns, fairies, cupcakes, and glitter fights. But it's actually about friendship and acceptance. Unicorns just want to have fun, fun, fun! Would they really be so petty as to exclude those who aren't exactly like them? Of course not!
The confection-sweet illustrations might be a bit much for some readers (including this one; I found the Lisa Frank-like colour palette a bit intense), but the rhyming text and pure exuberance of the characters will likely make the book very appealing to kids. Especially kids who love unicorns.
A great new picture book for fans of unicorns, sparkles and everything glittery! Girls and boys alike will enjoy this story about being yourself and having pride in your personality. A great read-aloud for early elementary children who are learning their place in the world.
I love this Unicorn story! I was so excited to get a copy of it to read to my preschoolers! The kids in my program love anything unicorn, in fact each year celebrate unicorn week!
This story is a colorful and simple story about celebrating unicorns, full of glitter, cupcakes, rhyming, dancing and all things happy and fun! Their is also a message of friendship and acceptance of others.
This book will definitely be a hit for preschoolers!
Thank you to Sourcebooks and NetGalley for this advanced copy! This will be featured on my blog Thursday March 28, 2019 @ https://colecampfireblog.com/
This book is a fun and colorful story that shows how we should accept others. The unicorns have a fun day planned for unicorns, but soon find they have a fake among their midst. How they handle it is a way to bring up the topic of being different, fitting in, and sharing with young children without being preachy,
My three year old boys loved this book!
Thank you NetGalley for an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A very sweet unicorn themed book celebrating what it means to be unique and to be yourself. A powerful message for the young ones and for unicorn lovers of all ages. Ideal for a bedtime read.
Yay! Yay! Yay! It's Unicorn Day! Well, I mean I suspect that every day might be Unicorn Day, but in this book we're looking at just one of those days.
Filled with fun, bright pictures, this story is fairly simple with an inclusive message about kindness and friendship. I'm often leery of books told in rhyme, but this one does it very well, and I never had to guess about the rhythm of the lines.
4 fun stars for this book that is perfect for little ones (or anyone) who loves unicorns (or glitter fights)!
Thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Jabberwocky for providing me with a DRC of this book.
Unicorn Day is a bright, cheery picture book with rhyming text that will find a devoted audience at my library. It's not much of a substantial story-- we mostly get to watch unicorns romp around and show off their horns and manes-- but when one of the unicorns turns out to be a horse with a fake horn, the others rally around to open their day to less traditional "unicorns". The rhyming text scans well and I'm happy to say it passes my first storytime test: not too many words on a page for my (toddler-heavy) family storytime! I'll certainly use this as a readaloud when it's released this June.
I received an electronic ARC from Sourcebooks through NetGalley.
Unicorn Day has arrived and the unicorns celebrate. They have three rules and the most important is to have fun. Midway through the day, they discover one of them is a horse. It looks like he'll have to leave, but they welcome him to stay and join the fun. Eventually other creatures join in too.
The rhyming text flows smoothly and the song is catchy. Young readers will enjoy putting their own melody to these words.
The illustrations make the unicorns and action leap off the page.
Alright, everyone. It's time to drop whatever you're doing and go request Unicorn Day by Diana Murray and illustrated by Luke Flowers from NetGalley because this book is just adorable. I requested this book largely due tot he fact that, in my work, I know a bunch of kids who are super into unicorns. And see, one of the cool things about my job is that when kids end instruction with us we get to buy them a book. Mainly, I wanted to see if this was a book that would be perfect for some of the kids I've been teaching and I was so thoroughly pleased with and impressed by this book that I brought my iPad into work this morning so I could show it off to my coworkers. Needless to say, I have a feeling this book is going to be going home with one of our kiddos in the future.
Unicorn Day is a gorgeously illustrated story about unicorns having a giant, very pink and very glittery party and basically just having oodles and oodles of fun all day long. Naturally, all this fun that the unicorns are having has prompted someone else to want to join in as well. You'll just have to read the book to find out what happens because it's a bit of a spoiler. Unicorn Day is about having a great time with friends, acceptance, and building new friendships. And I loved every piece of it. I had so much fun reading this book and I found myself giggling over and over again at how amazing this book was and how much I knew some of the kids I work with would just die to have a copy. I can't wait for it to be published so I can buy one for myself to bring into work.
This is definitely an amazing children's book and one you should really consider getting for your shelf, especially if you have or work with kids.
I was provided a free copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book is so striking -- the colorful illustrations will have this book flying off my shelves. It's fun with a short time-out for a quick lesson to learn, but it's not a book that takes a lot of thought. The little ditty the unicorns sing is catchy, and I can imagine kids making up a tune to sing it to. But, really, it's all about the pictures. Bright, sparkly, unicorny.
A bright, colorful and glittery book about unicorns and how each one is different. This is a book that celebrates each other's differences and with unicorns being so popular these days, this book will always be checked out. Better get a few.
What's not to love in this colourful, cheery book?
What a gloriously colourful, fun book for youngsters who believes in unicorns and feel they deserve the special Unicorn Day which is now part of our celebratory calendar! I really look forward to sharing this book in story=time in our library with children up to about age 7. I foresee the imposter pretending to be a unicorn and the Glitter fight as leading to much laughter and glee.. Lovely!
Cute and colorful (and glittery) children's picture book about celebrating everyone's unique traits (and the acceptance that comes part and parcel with that celebration). Skews young even for a picture book and has potential as a read-aloud work
This was absolutely adorable, and who doesn't love unicorns? I enjoyed the theme of friendship and acceptance surrounding the "impostor" in their group, and I thought the little song at the end was really fun and would work well for a storytime read-along.
This book was out of order when I downloaded it, so it was hard to get a feel for the story. However, the illustrations were great! They were very colorful and a lot of fun. We will be purchasing this for our public library and can't wait to use it in a storytime. The kids will love it.
Such a sweet, fun rhyming book about embracing those different from us. Beautiful illustrations and cute characters make this a joy to read!
