Another book by Jill Mansell that doesn’t disappoint!
This story focuses on Mimi and her rollercoaster life, finding herself is Gorsebrook she falls for the gorgeous Cal, but timing as they say is everything!
We see Mimi suffer heartbreak, grief and ultimately happiness.
A fabulous read, so glad I was able to read it. Would highly recommend
This is both a happy and sad read.
Mimi leaves her job and goes to live with her dad and his husband for a while. She falls hopelessly in love with Cal, the local single dad and his daughter Cora. However Cal is still in love with his ex wife. Tragedy happens and Mimi is pulled away to go and live abroad being a famous writers assistant and doesnt go back for many years.
Life moves on and things change but can Mimi find her way back to Cal and will Cal realise what Mimi is offering?
A very charming and good read, Jill never fails to disappoint.
Timing, as they say is everything.....and it certainly plays a big part in this book. Great characters, great story line, lots of laughs and some tug at your heart moments. make for a great read....thoroughly recommend it!
I adore Jill Mansell's books and she did not disappoint with this one. Very impressed with her writing and the layout of the story and characters. I would recommend this to reading groups and people who are looking for a feel good story.
You can’t beat a new book by this author. It always puts a smile on my face.
I loved everything about this book- the storyline, the writing style and the characters
A complete escape from reality
Loved this book. Fell in love with Cal he is so sweet. Jill Mansell never disappoints. If your a fan you don’t want to miss this one. I don’t want to spoil the storyline. Not your typical love story but a fantastic read not to be missed!!
5 stars
Love Jill Mansel! I could not put this book down. I feel like it wasn't your typical love story where boy meets girl. Throwing in the car accident and small town rumors and life really made you hope that Mimi and Cal would eventually find their happy ending
A great book with balanced light and shade that made for a very enjoyable quick read. I loved the characters in this book and would happily read more about the same people. Thanks NetGalley!
Jill Mansell is one of my favorite author, I used to read a lot of books written by her and then I started to read other authors. It has been a little while since I didn't read a book from Jill Mansell and I had the opportunity to read "Maybe This Time" thanks to Netgalley. And wow! Jill Mansell's writing is even better than before! I have been hooked to the story from first to last page! There is romance, drama, sad moments, happy moments and also funny moments. I have never been bored with this book! I am so happy to have read it! This is very good chicklit, very very very good! I recommend this book to all of you ladies!!!!
Jill mansel is a seasoned pro in this type of book and her new novel won’t disappoint. She has a real talent at keeping you interested, keeping you invested in her characters and keeping the plot moving to avoid boredom even if you predicted the ending from the start.
I liked that this book has slightly darker patches than you would normally get from romantic fiction.
The characters also felt modern and fresh
Overall it was a good easy read which ticks all the right boxes.
The girl gets the boy in the end so no spoiler there!
The story was very predictable but I did enjoy the journey to get there as there were a few it wont happen moments between the main character Mimi and the hunky artist Cal.
Nice easy read no complaints but not my favourite Jill Mansell novel.
This was my first Jill Mansell book but it won't be my last. I quickly fell in love with the characters. It was definetely a quick, light read. Plenty of romance and drama to keep me quickly turning the pages.
I received Maybe This Time by Jill Mansell as an ARC from NetGalley. I've been a fan of Jill Mansell's books for awhile and her latest one did not disappoint. Mimi visits her father & his husband in the village they have moved to and she finds more than she was looking for, She falls in love and finds a new group of friends but it's not the right time for a romance with Cal, Will Mimi's love life have a happy ending? Read the book to find out,
Whilst I knew Milly Johnson was a popular author I have to confess to having not read her books before, but now I shall be pursuing them all.
For Mimi meeting Cal is love at first sight, well she thinks, but timing is just never right. This story is great for fans of One day in December. What I enjoyed about this story though was that the lead female character is nor a wallower who minds being single. She is an ambitious and works hard. But everyone deserves a bit of play?!
Maybe this time is fresh and written for today's audiences, which I think is what made it so readable.
I loved how well it was written, flowing from comedy to tenderness. I adored Mimi, she became my best friend for a few days. I also fell in love with the beautiful Cotswolds village and it's community. I want to buy a house there. This was one of those books you morn for a few days and find it hard to find one that matches up to it afterwards!
I always enjoy Jill Mansell books, and her latest, Maybe This Time, is no exception.
London girl Mimi comes to the English Countryside to visit her dad and his husband, and soon finds herself enamored with the picturesque town and local dad Cal. While she harbors some fantasies, she soon learns Cal is happily married and returns to her life in London.
After a devastating event and four years, Mimi finds herself in need of a change and wonders if the countryside could be the life for her.
I don't want to give too much away regarding her circumstances, but I loved the way Mimi showed strength in adversity and made a new life for herself. I also loved the larger cast of characters and the charming descriptions of the locations.
I thought the writing was crisp and the book and romance, while predictable, was adorable and fun. I would definitely advise Jill Mansell for a summer beach read.
Thanks to NetGalley.com, the author and the publisher for my advanced copy.
Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC copy of Maybe This Time. Jill Mansells stories are fun, witty, and have relatable female characters. This title refers to the influence of fate and timing that rule romantic relationships. Mimi has a career in PR and a father that lives in a charming, small English village. Her Dad has a partner as he is gay and Mimi wants him to feel accepted in this small hamlet. She visits from London and immerses herself in the village to coax her Dad to become involved in his area. They had moved to avoid some prejudice that had been harbored towards them because of being gay, The people here were wonderful, accepting and only cared about what kind of person you were. Many friends and relationships were formed and Mimi felt a part of it also. Then tragedy struck and her father and two others were killed in a car crash. Her very dear friend Lois was severely maimed. Her friend Cal’s wife was one of the other 2 killed. After a serious off failed relationships and serious betrayals Mimi moves from London to the village and lives with her fathers firmer partner. She realizes she has feelings for Cal and this sets off a chain of humorous events that takes place as she wrestles with her feelings.. it is sweet, poignant and just a very enjoyable read that leaves you feeling refreshed and uplifted, as if you too lived in their village.. Defunitely one to savor!
I have never read any of Jill Mansell's books, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Well, not true- I expected this Rom Com to be exactly like all the others I have recently read: meet/cute scene, boy/girl meet, fall in love, have a fight/disagreement/mistaken feelings and then break up for a bit. They realize their errors and get back together at the second to last page.
With this book I was pleasantly surprised. There is a meet/cute. And it does not continue in the way you expect it to.
There are a lot of characters in this book yet I felt that none were superfluous. Quite a few story lines and even a few plots you might wonder why they were added, however it all worked for me. I'm not going to spoil it but this was one of the best Rom Coms I have read recently, and I am very grateful for having the opportunity to give this one a chance .
Thank you NetGalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for the eARC.
This was my first book by Jill Mansell and after all the stellar reviews I ended up a little disappointed. It's a sweet read, but somehow it didn't engage me the way I had hoped. Mimi is likeable, but irritated me too...she's so bubbly and enthusiastic, a bit over the top. It's obvious she's meant to be with Cal, but it takes sooo long! Goosebrook sounds wonderful, like a fairytale village and it's inhabitants almost too good to be true. Mimi's stint with the grumpy author in Majorca was, for me, the best part of the story and I liked her character there the best, she at last showed some backbone and strength.
There are some sad parts, especially in the beginning, but on the whole the atmosphere of the read is optimistic and feel good. I do understand why the author is so popular, but maybe my expectations were too high for more than 3 stars.
Thank you NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review!
Oh Gosh! This was such a fun read! I felt like i knew what was going to happen all along - and when it finally did - it was like a happily ever after!
What i did like was the whole book could easily be made into a rom-com. It was screaming 'when harry met sally' or 'notting hill' or any of the awesome 1990's romantic movies which are classics now.
I liked Mimi and Cora and Cal and even Stacey.
This is a book you can take to the beach along with a margarita!
A totally gorgeous read, the setting was described perfectly the charecters lovely, a great story that fitted and flowed all the way through, I loved every minute of it
