This is the first book i am reading in the series. I loved it. It has a lot more unexpected twists and complications. The love between Sarah and William is beautifully depicted also the pain that comes along it in life.
Overall a very good read.
I thoroughly enjoyed this historical romance story. Lady Sarah Hartford, also known as the Marchioness of Radcliff, daughter and sister of the Duke or Bradstone, is tired of her proper life as a widow in grey. She has titles and too much means with nothing to do but please society and act the part. So when her sister=in=law, Lady Lydia, dared her to take a lover in an inn outside London, she couldn't help but feel drawn to the challenge. Particularly when a large handsome Scottish man entered from the rain that had Sarah's heart beating fast. Playing the part of his wife, she took the opportunity to get to know her conquest, William Gordon, only what she discovered was something far more. Sarah found she could be herself and didn't have to play the part of a proper Marchioness around him, which surprised her. The pull between them was evident from the start and after a long journey back to London together they realised quickly that neither of them was willing to part ways to return back to their reality. Unfortunately William's past couldn't be ignored and his unwanted family connections dragged him down another road he didn't want to take, pulling him further away from Sarah.
The story is told from both perspectives from Sarah and William which really brings the story to life. The romance is beautiful and draws you in quickly, it's full of passion, desire and a love so powerful you'll not want to put the book down to make sure it ends right. The story is great with many twists and turns along the way.
This book was a pretty good read. Of course, this was my first book from this author and have sense read more of her books. Good characters, decent storyline, and overall good read.
Although I thought the main characters were refreshingly interesting, and the premise of the story well-realized, the book definitely bottomed out about halfway through. The author used an ill-advised plot twist which to me ruined all of the character development and plot momentum that had been building until that point. It was if the story started over again, with a completely different romance plot; that of the former lover who had to marry unhappily and is now re-encountering the main character later in life. It just didn't work. I also didn't appreciate how the author skipped over characters and events that I assume were covered in other books in the series. Even a brief overview would have been welcome. It created some unpleasant holes in the story.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley. A fairly entertaining historical romance with believable characters and decent storyline. It can be predictable at times, but overall, it was still an enjoyable. The characters were well developed. Mystery and romance were married to create a beautiful story of love and intrigue. This is the third book in the Macalisters series but it can easily be read as a standalone.
I would like to thank netgalley and Amberjack Publishing for a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
This is book 3 of the Macalister series, and focuses on Sarah, the oldest sibling.
I love this series and really enjoyed Sarah's story. The twists are unique and not overly predictable. I can't wait for the next book.
This is a book of two halves - I loved the first half, but unfortunately was left cold by the second half.
I enjoyed the initial romance between Sarah and William very much! I thought that their meeting was really unusual and led to a real shake-up of the usual pattern of historical romance - Sarah bets a friend that she can keep a random man in her bedroom for longer than her friend can, and William is drawn into this trap through one of my favourite tropes: there's only one bed in the inn. William and Sarah have instant chemistry, and I loved watching them fall in love, which they do surprisingly quickly.
Unfortunately, they do fall in love too quickly for the story to let them be, and we are then subject to a loooong period of angst and frustration as William disappears off the face of the earth, and then returns with a never-seen-before, heavily pregnant wife. I could not, for the life of me, understand why he wouldn't just have sent a message to Sarah explaining his situation. It was easily explicable, and would have stopped the second half of the book from dragging so badly - but then I hate when characters don't talk to each other for the sake of pushing the plot. These two communicated so well in the first half - there is no reason why William wouldn't speak to Sarah.
Overall, this is an enjoyable love story, but I think that the drama was just overly drawn out for me. Three stars.
I loved this book! I enjoy romance stories, but this one was special. Author Erica Taylor actually made me cry. Young, bored, wealthy widows can sure get into some trouble.
I came to know the characters quickly. Sarah and Will are both likable people and I wanted to keep reading to discover what would happen to them. The story had several plot twists that I did not expect. At a place in the story when Taylor could have neatly wrapped everything up (several different times,) she didn't. With many chapters still to read, I eagerly anticipated where the story would lead. Thank you, Ms. Taylor. I look forward to another adventure with your characters.

I really enjoy the Macalister series. This one is no exception. Lady Sarah is a strong heroine who deserves some joy in her widowhood. She meets William and they fall in love...but there is trouble ahead. Their lives cross and some bumps continually plague their chance at happiness. Erica Taylor has weaved a very interesting story and you can't help but hope that these two will find their HEA.
This was a fine book but only that. I could not get excited about it. I will read forthcoming books by her to see if her writing and storyline telling has improved- to see if it hooks me in the future.
A fairly entertaining historical romance with believable characters and decent storyline. It can be predictable at times, but overall, it was still an enjoyable read.

I am definitely looking forward to reading more from this series. The first two instalments were absolutely enjoyable and An Improper Encounter does not disappoint.
One can feel the heartbreak that Sarah and William go through. And the romance and intrigue take it to another level of delightful reading.
This is one series that readers can look out for.
I have enjoyed their loved story especialy in the beginning. It was heart-warming. I did enjoy the book though there were parts that were disheartening, A promise is a promise... and he did not fulfill it (at least send a letter). I was kind of upset because she still is very civil and accomodating to him . The guy had the nerve to approach her time and time again (even after choosing duty over her and having a pregnant wife... oooppsss spoiler alert).
Anyway, it might be easy to guess what might be the only way for them. The mystery around the things that happened I feel can be inferred though it became a little more complicated in the story.
I think it is a good/enjoyable read. I just wished there was an epilogue of what happened to all (including Sarah's sister-in-law or if she was blessed with child later on - she deserved it).

An illegitimate son is returning to London and his father's death bed. On the way, he's in a carriage accident during bad weather. Seeking shelter at an inn, they have no shelter available. A widow overhearing the conversation claims he is her husband and they share a room for the night. From there their lives become more entwined and complicated. I wouldn't put this book down until you finish it. There are so many twists and turns, it can get complicated keeping up with the story. Nevertheless by the end of the book, I realized I did enjoy it. Definitely an emotional rollercoaster.
This is the third and by far the strongest entry in a series that should be read starting with book 2 – The Perfect Duchess, Andrew’s story. In this one Sarah, Lady Radcliff, is the widowed older sister of Andrew and Susanna (from book 1). She is traveling to London with her good friend, Lydia, the widow of Sarah’s late husband’s brother. Bad weather forces them to stop for the night at an inn and, bored, Lydia issues a challenge to Sarah - each will seduce a stranger and the one who stays with her lover longest that night wins. At first Sarah is shocked, but then, having spent two years as the lonely, childless widow of an emotionally abusive husband, she agrees. What ensues involves true love, honor, betrayal, and danger. Finely portrayed and realistic characters make this a fine, involving book.
An Improper Encounter by Erica Taylor. Amberjack Publishing, 2019.
After I started reading An Improper Encounter, the third in the Macalisters series about the Duke of Bradstone and his siblings, I realized that I’d read the first but not the second, so stopped to do that first. These three historical romances are engaging, all well written with characters that we easily like.
Widowed and childless Sarah, feeling sad and lonely, sets out on a dare to attract Gordon, a physician and fellow traveller staying at the same inn. Both are heading toward London, Gordon’s coach has been damaged, so they travel together for several days. I enjoyed the story and was glad when the two likeable characters fall in love and decide to marry.
Most plot elements in this story will be familiar as they are also components of many other historical romances, however this will not distract from a reader’s enjoyment of a story that is more “romance” than “historical”; the date and setting are not particularly important.
I would give this fairly light historical romance four stars had careful, caring, scientific Gordon not makes decisions and takes action that – at least for me - conflicted with the essential nature of his character. Though in the end, his mistakes were resolved, I found such inconsistency in his character made reading this story less enjoyable than the first two books.

This one was only so-so. The characters were somewhat bland and there wasn’t a lot of intrigue or tension in the build up. The narrative was predictable. Solid three stars
This book kept me on my toes but it also made me rather furious when something rather predictable happened - and people got hurt. Really hurt. Ugh. Unfortunately, the solution was also somewhat predictable sooooo... I was really torn. I loved the story on the whole and I really really loved our hero and our heroine but there were some twists and turns, well,...
William is a wonderful character and Sarah is just amazing. I loved how she dared reach for what she wanted, be it an improper encounter (or some part of it at least) or her dreams.
William, on the other hand, is rather predictably honorable, which is a part of the problem.
On the whole, it is a rather fast-paced story with lots of action, heartbreak and happiness that would have been good and it did actually entertain me well, even though I was missing ...well.. something. I enjoyed reading it and will read it again though.
This was the first book by Erica Taylor that I've read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters were well developed and the plot was good. The pace of the story did slow down a bit in the second half, but a lot of that time was spent resolving the different threads woven into the story. The only thing I would have liked was a little more closure to Lydia's part of the story- unless of course she's getting a story of her own. This book had some humour and it also has my kleenex warning, so beware if reading in public. This is the third book in the series and can easily be read as a standalone, though if you want to read the earlier ones you should do so first - keep in mind the book order is not chronological- book 2 happens before book 1 and should be read in that order. Overall, a very good regency romance. *I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and this is my voluntary and honest review.
