The Boss is the first book I've read by this author and I was intrigued. I'm glad I was able to read the story because it was captivating and held my attention until the very end.

Exciting, action packed, interesting. I loved this book, it was such a whirlwind of a read. For a debut novel this is exceptionally good, I will read any other books by Caz Finlay.

So, I confess to reading this much later than planned, in fact I read it immediately before Back In The Game, and I’m so glad I read it. It’s everything you could possibly ask for in a gritty gang land crime novel.

Immediately you’re gripped by the characters and you find yourself unable to put it down. I can happily say I’ve recommended Caz Finlay to half my family and friends so far and will be itching to read each instalment in what I hope will continue to be an excellent series

Great debut! Caz Finlay has written a gritty, gangland novel set in Liverpool that does not disappoint.

After a 12 year stint in prison once feared gangster Nathan Conlon is looking to reclaim his notoriety and win back his ex-wife Grace Sumner. Things have changed in Liverpool and unbeknown to him, Grace is no longer the dutiful wife but now ‘The Boss’ of the empire Nathan helped build.
As Grace fears for the safety of her son Jake, she will stop at nothing to beat this monster at his own game to protect those that matter to her.

A very well written debut with plenty of twists and turns. The book switches from past to present giving a real sense of the main events in Grace and Nathan’s relationship. Secrets are continually uncovered as the power shifts between the two. Some people will get hurt, as others choose their loyalty but ultimately only one can survive to be The Boss.

The explosive ending will leave you wanting more from his great series.

5 Stars
Set in Liverpool, Grace has been dreading this day, her ex Nathan Conlon was out, released from prison and wanting to see their son Jake.
But Grace wasn't the same timid girl anymore, 12 years before the girl that put up with his controlling, manipulative and abusive way was not going to stand there this time. This was a different Grace wanting to protect her 18 year old son, that looked like him so much. She was not going to let him become like him and get mixed up in his business.

Was there a better way to protect Jake? Or herself? Particularly from Nathan. Was the only way to defeat the monster to become one yourself?

Whilst Nathan had been doing a 12 year stretch she had been building her own empire. Grace has been collecting secrets, secrets she may need to tell, she is now The Boss

Nathan however has one thing on his mind and that's to win his ex wife back. And take everything along the way including their son.

I absolutely loved this.
It was gritty, fast paced and I couldn't put it down.
Told in a past and present tense it flowed really well.
I loved Grace and Nathan was a fantastic character and his possessiveness towards Grace could be terrifying one minute and endearing the next.... a true psychopath.
The plot was full of secrets, twists and turns as Grace fights back.
Kept my attention from start to finish.
This is my first book by Caz Finlay but it won't be my last.

Grace wants rid of her ex husband Nathan so she can be free to move on with Jake, their son, and her beloved pub. Nathan thinks he loves Grace despite being divorced and he will go to any length to prove his love and control over her. Grace is far from being the mild mannered landlady he thinks she is.
Yes!!! This was brilliant. I mistakenly read the second book first but this did not detract at all from the story and because I loved Grace as a ferocious, strong character this story made me love her more and countdown to the next book!
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

I enjoy these gangland thriller books so when I saw this authors debut book was within this genre I jumped at the chance to read and review it.
Grace is running a pub in Liverpool, she is the Boss. Head of the family and not a force to be reckoned with. She has learnt the hard way though. Now free from her violent gangster bully ex Husband Nathan her life is back on track. Until that is when Nathan is released from Prison and becomes intent on getting back in to her and their Sons lives and wreaking havoc on the lives they have formed without him. But Grace is strong now, she's head of the firm and will stop at nothing to protect her own even if it means playing Nathan at his own dirty games.
An amazing debut full of deceit, deception, determination , mind games, abuse, intimidation control, power and much more presented in short chapters ( which I love for snatched reading opportunities) with a breathtaking finale ending.
This author I will be intently following for further books. Thanks Caz I think I can just about breath again!.
My thanks go to the publisher, author and Netgalley in providing this arc in return for a honest review.

It is not very often that i read a story based on a crime syndicate, mainly because gang stories don't usually appeal to me. 'The Boss' was one of those exceptions whereby i thought i would give it a try and found much to my surprise as to just how much i enjoyed reading it. This is one of those books that i found difficult to put down until i had turned the last page. I hope it's not too long before there is another book by Caz Finlay. Recommended.

My thanks to Netgalley and the Publishers for my copy. This is my honest review, which i have voluntarily given.

This is the first novel in a new series, and I honestly can not wait for the next one! I love gang crime fiction, the gritty and realness of it all, and this book did not disappoint. The twists towards the end of the book kept me glued to the book, and left me exhausted but thrilled!
Highly recommended!

The Boss is the first book in a brand new crime series by debut author Caz Finlay and you
do not want to put it down once you start reading it.
It is a fast-paced tale of family with a heart stopping twist and turns.
Grace Sumner is a respected crime boss in her own right. Her husband Nathan has just been released from prison after 12 years. Who is the boss now?
Big battle ahead for the readers of this a fantastically gripping story that I most definitely recommend.

A five star plus ...... Oh wow, totally blown away with that, those last few pages I was totally fan-girling and cheering for Grace but then it became "OMG no no no" as I sat poised knowing the end of the book was coming.

The story alternates between past and present, giving us more insight into what life was like when Grace and Nathan were together before he gets put in prison. It’s understandable why Grace wants nothing to do with her ex husband and my dislike for him grew the further into the story we get.

You can understand why someone like Grace would fall for Nathan. He is good looking and very charismatic. He is also someone who likes to be in control at all times and thinks he is unbreakable. There are glimpses of his past that did make me feel slightly sorry for him but his constant arrogance made sure that didn’t last for long.

Whilst this is a gangland novel and you can very much see that throughout the story, the author has focused on the relationship between Grace and Nathan with tensions getting higher the further into it we get. Boy did it have me hooked and I was dying to pick my kindle back up at every opportunity I could to see what was going to happen next and whether Grace could ever be free from this monster.

The Boss is a truly nail biting and gripping read. The build up of tension was sending my emotions into over drive. The story is set at a steady pace which then sent me hurtling towards the end at full speed whilst it took unexpected twists and turns. All I can say is what an ending and I can still fill my heart thumping now just thinking about it. What a brilliant debut novel!

First book I’ve read by this author. Thought the story started fairly slowly and took me a while to get properly into it. It did pick up though and the more I read the more I liked it. Good storyline with strong characters, and plenty of twists and turns with an unexpected end. Did feel book was a little disjointed at times though, particularly when moving from present day to past events.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

What a fantastic, gripping read by Caz Finlay!
After serving 12 years in prison viscous thug and gangster Nathan is back on the streets!! He is looking to pick up his gangster life where he left off twelve years ago!!
He's also looking to pick up where he left off with his wife Grace who divorced him while he was in prison!! He's using a renewed relationship with their son as leverage!
But little does he know Grace has taken over Nathan's street life and become head of his empire!
So begins a battle of life and death for the two and their friends!!
An amazing story and an amazing author! What a find!! Can't wait for the next one!

Good book. I like how there is a strong female lead. I would recommend this book and author. I like the way the main character is so smart yet manipulative. Would like to see more books with this character.

I enjoyed this book was nice to read my favourite genre from a fresh new author, my only complaint was the switching between timelines, I can usually cope well with this however seemed s little jumbled in this book.

Great book with the twists and turns of an absolute page turner. Getting an insight to the underworld of the crime scene is always fascinating and very well written. Hoping this is going to turn into a series as it has left loads of avenues to be explored.
