I actually did not finish this book I read almost 60% and I couldn’t get any further. I tried to read it on multiple occasions but I often found myself bored and not caring about the characters. There is no character development and I can’t see it happening at this point of the story so I’m sorry I won’t be finishing it.
This was not all what the book description said. I don't want to spoil it for anyone but I was expecting a totally different kind of story than what was advertised. I didn't hate it but I skimmed most of it just to make it through. Also I think there was some head hopping. Or who knows - I couldn't tell who felt or thought what sometimes.
New Orleans Rush is the story of an unlikely meeting between 2 very different people. I enjoyed the backstories of the two main characters. I loved how complex they both were but they managed to help one another grow and open up!
I started to read this book, but the first couple of chapters really dragged for me, so I did not continue reading it.
Beatrice followed her boyfriend to New Orleans. Four days after moving together he tells her that he thinks they should break up. After a few to many lemon drop martinis she decides to deface his car, but she actually defaces someone else’s car. That is how she ends up working for the marvelous marlow boys as a magicians assistant.
This book had charm, a great story and gives you the feels. I loved the characters and would love another book with all of them. This was a fun read and I read the entire book in a sitting. Loved it!!
I loved this book! It is so quirky, cute, and adorable! It's definitely a must read for something charmingly eccentric and delightful!
When I saw that this book had “New Orleans” in the name, I knew that I had to read it! I’ve been on an adult romance / Rom-Com kick for some months now, and New Orleans Rush was a perfect addition to my list. The main characters, Beatrice and Huxley were very very likeable, and I also ended up feeling very attached to some of the side characters as well! I also liked that all of the characters had some deeper and more believable backstories, and how their narratives were interwoven by the author. Also, the setting! Did I mention the setting? I’ve never been to New Orleans, but it’s high on my list of places to visit (and after reading New Orleans Rush, I want to go even sooner!)
This book definitely captured some of that New Orleans atmosphere (which definitely affected the romance between the two MCs as well)! Beatrice and Huxley’s story was really fun to read, and like I said, I really really liked them (individually and as a couple). Beatrice is unique and mostly all sunshine, while Huxley is darker and broody and just fun for me to read about. I like how Beatrice and Huxley’s romance developed because it wasn’t predictable, and also because Siskind portrayed it in an enjoyable way, and also because Beatrice and Huxley have really great chemistry. I definitely recommend this one to readers who enjoy contemporary adult romances!
New Orleans Rush was fun to read, but I forgot everything but the barest details right after I finished… and even those are fuzzy in my mind. There were a lot of details that could have made this one a standout, chief among those being the setting and the fact that love interest Huxley is a magician in need of a stage assistant (and cue the main character making a timely appearance in his life to fill the role). It was cute, sure, and offered the cozy comfort of a typical rom-com plot (complete with hate-to-acquaintance of necessity-to-friendship-to-love and high-stakes drama) leading up to the happily ever after. But my lack of investment in the romance (which led to a lack of swooning over said romance) and the fact that the plot was only okay meant that, even though this was fine, it was ultimately a forgettable read.
A surprising gem of a romance refreshingly different from anything Ive read lately. Stellar writing, a captivating story. I enjoyed it very much.
I have never been to New Orleans and have no interest in magic - so the setting of the story made it really hard to get into. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had something about the setting to connect to. However, if you have experienced the “magic” of New Orleans I think you might appreciate this cute story.
New Orleans with a sensual side... this is a cute story about second chances with a little mystery to keep it interesting, I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this story.
A quirky, down-on-her luck artist has a (kinda) serendipitous meeting with a surly, down-on-his-luck magician/illusionist.
After an embarrassing case of mistaken car identity, Bea finds herself blackmailed into working for Huxley, who smiles far less than he barks orders. Underneath his gruff exterior, however, lies a softer side that Bea is determined to expose.
I loved this book. It's funny, charming and tender in all the right ways. Kelly Siskind wowed me with this work. This opposites attract/office romance/romantic comedy set in the world of magic and illusion is a true winner.
I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.
I've been trying to read this for almost two months, when the typical romance novel of this length would only take me a day or two, once I get into it. That's the problem, though, or one of many: I just can't get into it. No matter how intriguing the plot sounded, nothing about these characters or their situations has been able to drag me into the storyline.
On top of that, I just don't like Bea at all — maybe she improves later on, but at this point, she's entitled and rude. The conflict between her and Huxley literally begins with her getting so smashed that she keys swear words into his car (when he has no money at all to fix it, and his car is sentimentally valuable to him), and then acting offended at the thought of having to work for him to pay it off, when he could easily and justifiably report her to the police and be done with it. Even at this point, while I'm seeing tiny moments of progress in her development, she's still acting bratty and is taking advantage of Huxley's mercy, and it's just... gross.
Thank you so much to the publisher for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Thank you very much for allowing me the opportunity to read this book! I appreciate the kindness. <3
Beatrice ran to New Orleans to have an adventure with her boyfriend and to escape the loan sharks who were after her and her gambler dad. However, as soon as she gets to New Orleans her boyfriend dumps her and kicks her out of their apartment. While drinking away her sorrows she meets an alluring magician, Huxley, and coyly asks if she can cuddle up in his cape. Intrigued by her, Huxley uses her dire circumstances to convince her to become his magician's assistant and finds himself wanting a lot more from her.
Beatrice and Huxley are really adorable together and I loved that they took the time to court one another rather than jumping right into bed. The intrigue around the loan shark who was after Beatrice and the rival magician who was out to destroy Huxley gave the story just enough action without making the story too serious. Overall, this was a light-hearted fun love story and would make a great summer read.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an advanced reading copy in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Cute story that had a lot of charm to it! Kelly continues to write books that make it hard for me to put down!
This was a really charming novel. I loved all the characters, even though Beatrice sometimes came off as a bit cartoonish. The book started off at 5 stars but did drop down one near the end when it got just a tad bit too corny for my taste. Overall, this book was a ray of sunshine and Beatrice Baker infectious personality couldn't help but make you smile. The romance was cute, too, but a little too rushed and the drama toward the end was less serious than expected. I'd still recommend this book to anyone looking for a cute romance or anyone who is a fan of Sally Thorne and Helen Hoang.
First thing we need to talk about is how this story is about a magician. A magician! And he has magician brothers! I know I’ve never read a book about a family of magicians. So right away that grabbed my attention.
Huxley is the oldest of the Marlow boys. After his father died, Huxley took it upon himself to become the head of the family. He takes on all the problems and finds a way to fix things. The current problem is that he has no assistant and he’s a bit down on his luck, but that all changes when he meets Beatrice.
Newly single and suddenly homeless, a short series events results in Beatrice owing Huxley. So she becomes his assistant, despite not knowing what she is doing. And her giant case of stage fright doesn’t help matters either.
Once Beatrice enters Huxley’s life, everything changes for the better. He’s known as the surly Marlow brother, but not with Beatrice. She has a knack of bringing out the best in the people around her and that is definitely the case with Huxley. He can't help but fall for her.
I just LOVED this book. Huxley was one of the more swoon worthy characters I’ve read recently. Beatrice and Huxley fell hard for each other and it was so lovely to watch unfold. Their relationship not only made me laugh at times, but I also got a little emotional at one point. And of course there was a whole lot of swoon going on.
I can't recommend this book enough. The storyline was great and the secondary characters left me wanting more of their story. I smiled the whole time I read it and I was left with a delightful, warm fuzzy feeling. Go 1-click this book!

Being a fan of Kelly Siskind’s words, I was all in when New Orleans Rush was announced. I mean NOLA, and Louisiana in general, is one of those #bucketlist places I will visit one day, and the whole magician thing definitely peaked my curiosity. And though there were a few things I would have like more of, I found the book to be a fun and quirky read with a lot of heart and characters I enjoyed getting to know.
I ADORED Huxley. This man is all about taking care of those he calls his own, and has a tendency to go a little overboard on it, but his heart tends to be in the right place most of the time. Sweet, compassionate and a little surly, the man had that laid back alpha vibe that had me wanting to cuddle up next to him. I loved Beatrice, I did. I loved her quirks and how she totally owned everything that she was and followed with her heart. But there were times where I wanted to reach out and shake her, I got why she felt the way she did and I did give her props for standing her ground, but sometimes her impetuous nature definitely worked against her.
Huxley and Bea’s journey was filled all kinds of slow burn goodness and totally worked considering the various issues they were both dealing with, a couple of which were quite intense and emotionally draining on them both. But the good part of slow burn was that they had time to truly get to know each other. Huxley gave Bea stability and security, while Bea helped Huxley take the time to relax and enjoy life. They had quite a few issues to work through, and though I did tend to side a little more with Huxley than Bea, I always liked how things worked out between them.
This was a fun read. The writing was engaging and though the pacing did drag in some places for me, things did move at a decent pace. My main issue with the book is that I feel as if there were quite a few things left unresolved, not necessarily between Hux and Bea ~ I’m good with where things between them were at in the end ~ but more with their respective families. I would have liked a little more closure, or at least a HFN type of closure, between them. Now there could be more books to come in this world and those will deal with the issues I have, but as I couldn’t find any information on future books, I’m left with quite a few unanswered questions. But I truly enjoyed were the supporting cast of characters. Fox, Axel and Della were a lot of fun and I absolutely loved them and the depth they brought to the story as a whole and I’m crossing my toes that we’ll get more of them at some point in the future!
beatrice "bee" baker is having *a day* when she encounters a man in a velvet cape she just wants to nuzzle. he turns out to be one of the marvelous marlow boys, a down-on-their-luck magical act working the crowd in new orleans.
when a mix-up results in bee keying huxley's car, he blackmails her into becoming his new stage assistant. from the moment they meet, the chemistry is off the charts. but they've both got baggage and money-related problems about to crash on their heads. new orleans rush is a satisfying contemporary romance, with a strong cast of secondary characters and two leads who are flawed but loveable.
**new orleans rush will publish on april 23, 2019. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/everafter romance in exchange with an honest review.
