Imagine losing every item, passport, wallet, phone, computer, etc., that could identify you and then you realize you don't know your name or why you are at this particular train stop. Thus begins a tale filled with twists both likely and not that kept me intrigued until the end. If I give much more information, it will be too much and give away important parts of the storyline. Enjoy!
This was a fun and crazy read. It definitely kept me guessing and the plot didn't feel too recycled. The characters were interesting too, even though I feel like there were a few too many -- it was hard to keep track!
A creepy psychological thriller involving amnesia. A woman arrives at Tony and Laura's front door and she thinks she is home. She doesn't know her name and has no identification but she knows the layout of Tony and Laura's house. They invite her to stay the night until they can get her some help. Tony decides to call her Jemma - with a J. There are quite a few twists in this story and parts of it are scary and others really creepy. I did enjoy the story but had to dispel credibility quite a few times due to actions I just couldn't believe could ever happen in real life. Like who would let a stranger who arrives at their door spend the night? Yikes!

Book Description
Who can you trust if you don't know who you are? She arrives at the train station only to realize her bag had been stolen--her passport, credit cards, laptop, house key now all gone. And even more disturbing, when she goes to report the incident, she can't recall her own name. All she has on her is a train ticket home. Suffering from stress-induced amnesia, the woman without a name is a source of mystery when she appears at the sleepy Wiltshire village where she thought she lived. She quickly becomes a source of conspiracy and fear among the townspeople. Why does one think he recognizes her from years earlier? And why do the local police take such a strong interest in her arrival? From the critically acclaimed author of Find Me comes a shocking new tale of dark pasts and deception, leaving us breathlessly analyzing the role memory plays in defining who we are--and who others think we might be.
My Thoughts
Imagine knowing nothing about yourself, not even your name. There are many things that can happen to a person, but the loss of identity has to be so frightening! No one who recognizes you, no id, and just the belief that the house you are approaching is ‘home’. Could things get any worse? Well, if a couple answers the door at ‘your house’, a couple who live there and have no idea who you are, I’d say that things have gone from bad to worse.
This is a twisty tale and things are not always as they seem. There are a lot of characters and theories introduced, and I pretty much gave up believing anybody. Chapters are short and the plot moves along quickly. At one point, there is much more ‘telling’ the story, as opposed to showing what happened. While that isn’t my preferred way of learning information, I did want to find out the truth about the mystery woman. 3.5 stars.

It's hard to give a synopsis of how this story progresses because there is honestly soo much going on, I'd be giving something away. But to keep it short, sweet, and spoiler-free: "She" is in the middle of her travel when she realizes that she no longer remembers her name... In fact, she can't remember who she is, where she came from, or where she is going. What appears to be stress-induced amnesia might be something much more cynical.
Her arrival appears to have caused a stir in the small village of Wiltshire, and now the police have taken quite the interest in her too. Still, she can't remember her own name.
Now, this book was great... until I got about 72% in. The story is not too fast-paced, nor too slow. As a reader, you find yourself trying to piece the puzzle, observing all of the clues in your own attempt to figure out who this mystery woman truly is. However, there were too many "possible causes" thrown into this one mystery that after a while it just seemed to be going off on a tangent. The book initially starts out with 2 big theories, but throughout it evolves to 4 theories. Mind you, these are all literally printed, this does not include whatever theories the reader may be making throughout the story. When it is pushed to a completely different direction, sharply at that, it simply took the desire out of me to continue reading. At that point I was just over the stop and go of the entire plot. This alone brought my initial 4.5 raiting to a stark 3 stars.
Like I mentioned, I enjoyed this book for a large part of it. It really kept me intrigued, it was well-paced, the character development was on point, and then it just went too far in the attempt to keep intrigue.
I can't remember my name.
On Day One, we meet a young woman. From our point of view we see someone who has suffered some type of trauma and only knows that her things are gone and she is in the village of Wiltshire, knocking on door of her own house. She knows it is her house but she can't fully explain how she knows this and nothing else.
The couple who own the house are suspicious. The police are suspicious. The entire village is suspicious. And more than one person thinks they know her.
As we learn more about her and the couple who take her in at first, things begin to take an odd turn. The wife up and leaves. The husband is acting very odd. Who do they think she is?
This was a thriller, a mystery, with and ending that was both shocking and satisfying!
Well Done!

This book was just okay for me. It is most likely me not enjoying books about people with amnesia. I think that a lot of people will enjoy this book. I liked the writing style of the author and will certainly try reading more of his work.

THE LAST THING SHE REMEMBERS is a story about a woman that has amnesia , she doesn't know her name but she knows she use to live in Tony and Laura's house. There were so many things in this novel that were so unbelievable I just couldn't really get into the story.
Buckle up for this thrill ride! When Jemma appears on their doorstep believing it's her own home, Tony and Laura are shaken but determined to help this young woman who has amnesia and can't even remember her own name. Her handbag has been lost at the airport and she has no ID, remembering only that she came from Berlin. From here on in it's a whirlwind of plot twists! Is she the murderer of twelve years ago who killed her best friend and was later released? Or is she the long-lost daughter of Luke who sees familiarity in her facial features even though he didn't even know she existed? Or are there even more sinister forces at work here? Just go along for the ride and don't speculate...it's more fun that way and I'm fairly certain you won't figure it out. It's a convoluted but awesome plot and certainly satisfying at the end!
The first half of this book was a total hit for me- I could barely put it down! It starts off as a a compelling psychological thriller, focusing on amnesia and develops a strong mystery from there. When the story switches to Berlin, it lost me. While it started off promising, ultimately the book tried to bring in too many different plots and some very far-fetched concepts that took away from its initial promise.

“The Last Thing She Remembers” is an amazing mystery thriller in which a woman who has amnesia, with no belongings and no Identification finds herself in an English village where she knows no one and no one knows her. What follows is a fast-paced wild ride as the woman begins to piece together who she is. The story branches off in different directions, interconnecting the lives of many people. Multiple story lines converge to reveal some shocking events of the past. The author keeps readers in suspense with a series of stunning twists and turns. This is a a very clever and highly entertaining mystery. I received this book from NetGalley in return for an honest review.
Thank you to J.S. Monroe, Harlequin and Park Row for this ARC.
What a creepy story - I loved it! The story was well-paced, with twists you won't see coming. This is my first J.S. Monroe book but it definitely won't be my last. A truly enjoyable read.
Definitely not your average amnesia story. Most involve an accident or something much more serious than just losing your belongings, but here it has created stress-induced amnesia. Imagine having nothing but a train ticket home and trying to navigate the world and find yourself, because you don't even know who you are anymore. A deep story that will make you think about this book anytime you're not reading it, and for long after you're done.
The Last Thing She Remembers is an outstanding mystery/,thriller! It has a wonderfully interesting take on the amnesia teope, and it makes the use of an unreliable (possibly...) narrator fascinating. The writing could use a little more polish, and the tension doesn't hold completely firm until the end, but overall The Last Thing She Remembers is a solid and throughly engaging read.
I really enjoyed this book that had me gripped throughout.
An interesting story about a girl who does t even know her own name and has to find out who she can trust and rely on in her vulnerable state.
But all is not as it seems as there’s a twist that delves deeper into her past and discovers secrets that she has to face up to.
Some interesting characters and a look at the relationships between them.
The first half of the book was interesting, the suspense is built up well. It then takes on a different turn which is almost bizarre. The main character's motivation seem too unbelievable and in spite of The effort to give an edge of the seat thriller ending,it does not pay off. There are several books based on memory loss and this one stands out for being very different but not agreeably so.
I wasn’t a huge fan of this one. I appreciated the attempt at something fresh and different and the unreliable narrator style can be really interesting but I just couldn’t get into the storyline on this one. The plot and characters just were strange to me I couldn’t connect with it.
The premise of The Last Thing She Remembers sounded so good. A young woman knocks on the door of a newly married couple in an English village. She has no memory of her past, and no idea who she is. Why this house? Why this couple? And who is she really? It all sounds so intriguing - and there were parts that definitely were. However, there were also parts that felt to coincidental, and a shade overdone.
The main character was difficult, for me, to connect with as her choices just didn't make sense. If you didn't know who you were, wouldn't you seek either the police or medical attention? Arriving on the doorstep of strangers and accepting not only their offer of help but a night stay just seemed off. The why behind this does become clear later in the story - and it made sense, unfortunately it is much later in the story and my reserve for this woman's choices was low. As was my feelings for the secondary storyline of who this woman with amnesia may be. Back to coincidence again.
In the end this book and I were just not a fit and that is OK. The beauty of books is that what may not resonate with me could certainly do so for another.
Thank you Netgalley and Park Row for the free e-arc in exchange for my honest review.
What would you do if a woman showed up on your doorstep, claiming she lived there? And didn't remember her name. That's the premise of this story, a young woman shows up on the doorstep of a couple in small British Village, claiming she lives there, and that she just got off a plane and can't remember her own name. This was a really interesting read, definitely takes some dark twists and turns.
What must it be like to forget who you are? The Last Thing She Remembers is a chilling tale of a killer who believes he has the right to make that happen to his victims. The story is well written and takes the reader on an unexpected journey about memory loss and murder.
