Three and a half stars.
Not recommended unless you have read the Colorado High Country/ I-Team novels.
Scarlett Springs is on alert, the hot dry weather in Colorado combined with the high winds have increased the chances of a devastating forest fire which could wipe out the small town. When a camper lets an illegal campfire get out of control it's up to the brave men and women of Scarlett Springs to save the people and animals they love.
This is like a Christmas ensemble special, every couple you've previously read about features in this novel, most of them are pregnant or have just had babies, each family faces danger. Whilst I enjoyed the novel, much of the first third seemed to be introducing character after character and giving a precis of the book in which they featured with a quick catch-up on events since then - it would be unintelligible f0r a new reader (in my opinion).
But we finally find something out about Bear's background!
As with the other Pamela Clare novels there is plenty of excitement, plenty of thrills, a small town with its own billionaires, gorgeous firemen, a climbing wall, a local brewery and Chicago deep pan pizza.
This feels like the end of the Colorado High Country series, everyone is married and producing children, together they fight the wildfires that could destroy the town.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
WOW! If this story doesn’t make you want to read both series, and don’t know what would. As I haven’t read all of the books of both series yet, I know I’ve missed meeting some of the characters, but that said, I did recognise many throughout the book. This story brings together all the previous heroes and showcases their fight to protect their town.
With a real life scenario, and heart pumping action, Chasing Fire is guaranteed to keep the reader riveted till the last page is turned. I’ for one, will be going back and reading every book I’ve missed.
Eric Hawke, Scarlet Springs' fire chief, knows its only a matter of time until the next big wildfire. When an illegal camp fire turns into a raging crown fire that threatens their town they do everything they can in order to save their home and all their friends and loved ones. When Eric has to fight with the county chief and the governor things get dicey because between the county chief not thinking the fire is going to head to Scarlet Springs and the Colorado governor not giving him the tools he needs to save lives and stop the fire Eric is put in a tough spot.
Help comes from unexpected places. Marc Hunter, Julian Darcangelo, and Zach McBride are in the mountains above Scarlet Springs for an inter-agency training exercise. One of their exercises includes all the illegal camp sites set up because people thought they could come to Colorado and make millions selling pot legally, not realizing they had to go through channels to get licensed, end up living in the woods. When a fun day of playing cops and bad guys becomes a battle against time, they join forces with Hawke and members of the Rocky Mountain Search and Rescue Team to save friends trapped by the fire.
When the fire takes off, they are tasked with helping people evacuate and save animals trapped in homes above Scarlet Springs and bring them off the mountain. There are a few close calls and a few moments of "Its just the smoke" from the characters and from me. I couldn't believe that by the end of the story all my favorite characters were in the hospital for one reason or another. I'm so relieved they are all going to be ok. During my short time in Colorado, I always worried that since the house was surrounded by trees that a wildfire is something I should worry about, and this book confirmed it, with the statement its not a matter of if its a matter of when.
Pamela does it again. From the second I picked up this book I was hooked, I couldn't put it down thank goodness my kid was taking a nap and allowed me to get through the adrenaline rush. I laughed, cried, and bit my nails flipping pages to make sure all my favorite characters made it through. It was a roller coaster ride, it reminded me of the Hulk at Island of Adventure, the story just took off... Make sure you have a box of tissues and a glass of wine ready because you will need both. This was such an intense book, I think Chasing Fire is Pamela's best book of the series and I've loved every book. Soo good!
Wow...what a ride...this riveting drama was edge of your seat breath stealing, I felt as if I was there, experiencing first hand the devastation and tension as it unfolded. The story was made that much more real to me because I live in Northern California where in November we suffered the the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in our states’ history...the Camp Fire...and the worst in the country’s history since the early 1900’s. The entire town of Paradise was literally burned off the map, absolutely nothing of it was left, the devastation unimaginable. Nearly twenty thousand homes were lost, the death toll reached 86 with 12 civilians and five Firefighters injured.
As the story developed, the fear and terror was palpable, the heartache felt physically, at times it was if I could feel the heat from the fire and the physical pain suffered. The heroism and bravery of the First Responders in the midst of such tragedy brought to light the depth of their daily sacrifices, by themselves and their families. This is one story I can see myself reading multiple times...it’s just that good.
This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
Holy moly! This book was intense. I have not read all of the books to both series, but I did recognize quite a few couples. This was great in the way that it brought all these books together and lets the reader check in with these couples.
What was even better is that the storyline will have your heart pumping. This scenario is real life. To be in the minds of all these characters as they face a situation that is not only scary, but can happen and has happened to real people had me riveted to the pages.
I was terrified for these characters. I was rooting for them to beat back that fire and survive. I cried when family members left behind got devastating news and I also rejoiced when they got good news. You can't possible read this book and feel nothing.
Well done Pamela Clare!
I'm a long time Pamela Clare fan so when I saw this I-Team-High Country cross over novel, I jumped on it. It is the story of a fire that threatens the town of Scarlet Springs in Colorado's high country.
This book is very different than other things that Pamela Clare has written. She brings back all the characters from both the I-Team and the High Country series. And, I mean ALL the characters. Seriously, there are a crazy number of characters. I remember looking at my Kindle at 32% and thinking if she introduced one more character that I was giving up (she did and I didn't). It took so long to introduce the characters and give their backstories. I've read all of Pamela's books and I had a hard time keeping up with it all.
Another thing that was odd for me is there isn't really a single hero and heroine and the development of their story. The storyline is equally split among all these characters. It is nice to see some beloved characters again but it comes off as a little scattered. It also feels slightly creepy and voyeuristic to go from sex scene 1 with couple X to sex scene 2 with couple Y.
This is really a story about wild fires (which is particularly timely after the events in California). The author clearly spent a lot of time researching fires and providing an accurate portrayal of what happens with first responders and those that are impacted.
If you saw the recent coverage of the California fires and you want to learn more about what happens behind the scenes, this is a good book. As is typical of all Pamela Clare books, it is well written and has a lot of detail. But if you are looking for romantic suspense like I was, this book might not meet your expectations.
I have to be honest I wasn't sure just how a book combining characters from two long running series would play out. However, I should have never doubted Pamela Clare! This was a wonderful novel, full of suspense and drama. All of our favorite heroes from the I-Team and Colorado High Country are all united in fighting a wildfire that is threatening the lives of everyone in Scarlet Springs. This book had all of the intensity of her I-Team series but on a larger scale because of how many lives are at stake. Definitely five stars for this fast paced novel.
This book is an i-team\ Colorado high country crossover book and I was really excited to read this! I've read the entire Colorado high country series but have not read the i-team. Unfortunately with this book there's so many different characters and the author to me talked about the i-team characters like I should know who they are and i don't so it was definitely confusing trying to figure out who all these people are lol if you've read both series you're going to love this one ! It was well written and i did enjoy reading it but it just had a lot of characters that i did not know! Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for sharing this book with me!
Intense, suspenseful and emotional.
Chasing Fire was an excellent read. Having the I-Team join the Colorado High Country worked out perfectly. The layout of the book in the first several chapters to get all the characters in place for the events that would rock the town was informative for those not familiar with these two series. Since I had read them previously it was a rerun but good to catch up.
When the fire starts to threaten closer to Scarlet Springs it's time for action. There are so many different things happening and each one is intense and suspenseful in their own way. Pamela Clare's Introduction explains the inspiration of the story (besides the recent events of Dec. 2018) and her writing expresses the emotions she must have felt July 9, 2016.
When books evoke many emotions for me, I consider them a success. Chasing Fire had me interested, anxious, nervous, scared, relieved, happy, and thankful. Did I mention crying? Yes, this book made me cry several times. An emotion I had been missing with all my recent reads.
I highly recommend this book. Thanks to Victory Editing NetGalley Co-Op for allowing me an advanced reader's copy of Chasing Fire.
The I-Team series has been a favorite of mine, I have re-read the books many times. So seeing the characters from that series mashed up with the Colorado High Country was great fun! It seemed like the I-Team characters were a bit out of their depth not in a big city, but that didn't stop them from jumping in and helping and boy did they have a lot to help with. Lives were at stake, bad things happened and often you weren't sure if our favorite characters would make it or not. There were many times as I read that tears were rolling down my face. In the end though, things were great. Sure people paid a price, but things can be bought again, people on the other hand, those are more precious and ours all made it through. I loved the party at the end, loved that everyone got back together, to celebrate the town and new friendships.

A great book with lots of peeps from both series. This is more the story of all our previous heroes fighting a fire that is threatening Scarlett. There is a little new romance in there too, but mostly it's watching all our favorite couples help save the town. There's lots of drama and suspense...who survives the fire and who doesn't... Plus we learn more about Bear's history. It was so good.
I haven't read the I-team series yet but I loved the Colorado High Country series. It met have been better had I read I-team but the author did an awesome job of touching on the couples backstory so you really didn't feel like you were missing out.
I loved this story. I totally cried. OH! and I loved how we finally got Bear's backstory.
This is a wonderful combination of Ms. Clare’s two exciting series, “I-Team” and “Colorado High Country”. Scarlet Springs Fire Department, led by chief Eric Hawke, are prepared as they can be for the fire season. Red flag warnings have been issued with the hope that campers will be extra careful and that should anything happen that the winds will remain calm. Meanwhile, the I-Team members are having a training exercise in the area. When Jesse notices a wisp of smoke, he alerts his boss and word will spread that a fire has been detected. The small fire will blaze out of control, fed by high winds, that will endanger the town of Scarlet Springs. Eric will have help not only from his own team, but from members of the I-Team and Rocky Mountain Search and Rescue. Will they be able to get containment on the rapidly growing fire? Will they be able to protect the town and homes in Scarlet Springs? A thrill ride as they fight to save their friends and their way of life. Even if you have not read all of the books in the series, Ms. Clare provides enough back story as well as an update of the main characters. It was wonderful, for me, to revisit the many characters and “catch up” on their lives. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to give an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
I really enjoyed the way Chasing Fire tied the characters from the other books I've read by Pamela Clare together. It was great knowing the back story of these people and finding out how their lives were progressing. The intense way the fire is described from different perspectives made it almost impossible to put this book down. I could almost feel the flames and the tension as each person fought for survival. Excellent.
A firefighter is a rescuer extensively trained in firefighting, primarily to extinguish hazardous fires that threaten life, property and the environment as well as to rescue people and animals from dangerous situations.
It starts with a small flame ... then the wind picks up and embers are flying everywhere. In a moment it becomes a raging fire ... racing to the small town of Scarlet Springs.
The firemen have no immediate back up and members of various law enforcement agencies are in the woods participating in a training exercise using paintballs. There's also a group of 40-some children along with their counselors who haven't heard that they are in the way of a huge fire.
There's panic as people are trying to save pets and forest animals ..... evacuating as many people as they can .... and the women worrying about their men who are at the very core of the raging inferno.
CHASING FIRE is packed with action, and thrills. Jumping off the pages are the fear and worry that envelop the reader. It's a nail-biting experience as a helicopter is shot down by a drone and the four men survive the crash, only to land right in front of the fire.
For fans of Pamela Clare's series of the I-Team, this is a gift of almost all the characters in that series. The reader actually gets to see how their lives have progressed since the last book was written.
Many thanks to the author / Victory Editing NetGalley Co-Op / Netgalley for the digital copy of this Romantic Suspense. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
They are back..I have to admit that I had not read the I-team but I have read the group from Scarlett and I love them, Eric Hawke is my favorite and will continue to be so. This book broke my heart, and I was at the edge of my seat and biting my nails the whole time. We get a brief reconciliation with the ones we know and love and excitement the whole way but eventually we get what we want..I don't want to give spoilers but if you have read books of this series than you want to grab a copy. Enjoy!
Get the tissues ready. It was great catching up with the couples from both the I team and the Colorado High Country couples and Families. When the two come together there's nothing that can stop them.
