Unfortunately this book was not for me, it was a bit slower than I would like and it just didn't hold my attention. I am sure other people will love it!

Ahh I love the Jessica Daniel’s series and all her colleague characters - it’s so believable and just like watching a tv series in your head when you’re reading. I’m almost reluctant to read to the end because I know there will be a cliff-hanger that I’ll need to know the answer to!!

If you haven’t read any of Kerry’s books then you’re missing out. Go right back to the beginning and read them all, you won’t regret it!!

I can always count on Kerry Wilkinson to deliver a great story. In the 13th book, Jessica travels to Blackpool to find her friend Bex. Bex has been missing for a few months when Jessica receives a mysterious phone call. As soon as Jessica gets to Blackpool, however, things aren't adding up and soon Jess finds herself being framed for murder. On her own, she sets out to figure out what the hell is going on. This will keep you guessing. I love Kerry's books, especially the Jessica Daniel's series. Its always good to read them in order but I don't think its necessary. They read just fine as a stand alone.

As a professional, Detective Jessica Daniel is very good at solving any mystery that comes her way. But this time it's personal. Jessica is on her own, looking for her room mate Bex. She has received a call she knows must have been Bex, but when she follows the lead, all she finds is more questions. Plus, Jessica finds herself as the primary suspect of a murder. Kerry Wilkinson continues his excellent series as he opens more doors into Jessica's life. A+ and 5 stars.

Wow, this is already the 13th book in the Jessica Daniel series. Can't believe it.
I have read each and every one of the Jessica's, and they just keep getting better, and I believe I'll be hooked for life.
This was another thrilling Jessica read, especially since the shoe was sort of on the other foot.... (no spoilers, I promise!)
Highly recommended.

It was great to catch up with Jessica again after having read most of Kerry's previous books, including the Andrew Hunter series. This series never disappoints. This mystery is full of twists and surprises that will keep you guessing. Another highly recommended read and I look forward, as always, to Kerry's next masterpiece.

I have read other Jessica Daniels books and it was like welcoming an absent friend back into your home again.. Kerry Wilkinson has a style of writing that keeps the reader guessing as to what is really going on, right up until the end of the book. I also like the references to Manchester, the city I was born in and the changes to that city now. This book was based mainly in Blackpool and showed the seedy underside of that city away, from the spruced up tourist areas that visitors see.
The storyline was interesting, engrossing and appalling and kept up its momentum until the end of the book. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
With thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the book, it was a pleasure to read and review.

This is #13 in the Jessica Daniel series, but my first read in the series. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and would go back and read all the Jessica Daniel books. I feel like there was not spoilers from the previous books, it really stuck to the story at hand.

I really loved Jessica Daniel’s character, she was a very likable and strong character. She’s a Detective Inspector, so this could be classified as a police procedure, but this particular book wasn’t since she was the suspect. She had to try to clear her name, there was quite a lot of action as well in this book, which I really enjoyed. It wasn’t a “edge of my seat thrill ride” but it was still very good, and I was captivated all the way through. So far, I’ve read two books by Kerry Wilkinson and I will read many more! Highly recommend.

I absolutely adore Jessica; so much so that I re-read the previous 12 books (in three weeks!) before I allowed myself to demolish this latest instalment.

It’s fast-paced, gritty and horrible to see Jess in such a predicament. The only reason this is not another 5 star from me is the lack of her team. I understand the reasons why she had to do this alone and away from the others but I missed them!

As ever, I look forward to the next one. I continue to recommend Kerry to everyone.

4 stars

Silent Suspect – Kerry Wilkinson

I received this book as an Advance Reader Copy from Netgalley, in exchange for an objective review.

Coming right off the heels of Wilkinson’s last book, Detective Inspector Jessica Daniel is back, and resuming the search for her housemate Bex, still missing after the events of the last novel. Jessica receives a phone call one night from a phone box, and the caller says one word, Jess’s name, and the line goes dead. Jess is certain that it is Bex’s voice, and she traces the call to a phone box in nearby Blackpool.

Upon arriving in town, Jessica surveys the phone box, and finds a missing persons picture, that looks very similar to Bex. She calls the number on the photo, and connects with Peter, the missing girl’s brother. They agree to meet, spend some time walking around town and talking, then head their separate ways. When Jess awakens the next morning, it’s to DCI Ashley Fordham’s knock on her hotel room door. Peter has been found dead, she was the last to see him alive, and there’s fresh blood on her car. But whose?

While Jess pleads her innocence, the police are appropriately skeptic, and she launches her own investigation. She connects with another young woman at Peter’s workplace, who then mysteriously disappears as well. Coincidence? Or is someone setting Jessica up for a murder charge.

Not knowing who to turn to, Jessica calls her old friend Andrew, who comes to her aid. Now being sought by the Blackpool police, Jess narrowly misses capture, and in a race against time she and Andrew work to unmask the real killers – and discover a human trafficking operation in the process…

Another fabulous read from Kerry Wilkinson. I discovered her books completely by accident on Netgalley.com, and I am hooked!! I cannot wait to read the remainder of this series!! Completely un-put-downable!! Make this your next read!!

I love the Jessica Daniel series and this didn’t disappoint, what a fantastic read! It was fast paced, punchy, full of twists to keep you guessing and had a really good story line. This had me reading late into the night as I had a hard job putting it down. This book really kept my interest and had me engaged right the way through the book, I love the characters they are down to earth and real., this helps to keep the book interesting. An excellent read, I thoroughly enjoyed it, I don’t hesitate in giving it 5 stars.

What can I say? I'll start with this, this is a thrilling rollercoaster ride of a book, buckle up and get ready for it. I've loved this series from the beginning, Detective Inspector Jessica Daniel is a stubborn strong minded woman who has been through the mill both personally and professionally but she always comes out fighting.
.
If you've read the 12th book you'll know that at the very end of it Jessica receives a phone call from her friend Bex who has been missing for about three months saying only one word 'Jessica'. Immediately taking some leave from work she dashes off to Blackpool to try to find her. After calling in favours the call was traced to a tatty phone box. in front of a row of dilapidated buildings and a rather seedy looking hotel. Once she finds the phone box she sees a poster for another missing girl called Katy who has a strong resemblance to her missing friend.

After she calls it and arranges to meet Peter Salisbury who she thinks is Katy's brother, they meet and swap information, but she really doesn't trust him and as could only happen to Jessica he promptly turns up murdered the next day. Thankfully the police are treating her decently as a fellow officer even though they have her down as a suspect. This allows her to continue her search for Bex, which seems to be one dead end after the other until she meets Fran and an unlikely band of friends.

I could wax lyrical and bore you to death about this book but then I'd be spoiling it for you. If you.re looking for something to get thoroughly involved in, I'd definitely recommend this and/or any other Kerry Wilkinson novel

Read for an honest review. Thank you Bookoutre and Netgalley

A very different book in this series with a very different narrative and point of view. As a reader I was intrigued and found it an enjoyable read but missed the interaction between Jessica and her team

Synopsis:

It started with a phone call. With just one word: ‘Jessica’ - and now Detective Inspector Jessica Daniel has a big problem. Her missing friend, Bex, called from a battered seaside payphone and yet, by the time Jessica arrived, there was nobody there. One man claims he can help – but then he turns up on a beach stabbed to death.

Jessica believes someone must be framing her. Someone who is always a step ahead. When she finds a boy whose tattoo matches Bex's, she becomes more desperate than ever for answers. But, with the police growing more suspicious, Jessica doesn’t have long to find Bex before she becomes the prime suspect for a murder.

With more than her career at stake, can Jessica clear her name - and find her friend – before it’s too late for them both?

Review:

I really enjoyed seeing Jessica step away from the office and the complete change of environment for her in this book. Her search for the elusive Bex is fraught with mystery and red herrings that just more frustrating with each turn of the page. Kerry Wilkinson winds the tension ever tighter with each and every chapter as Jessica's clue's towards Bex's location turn quite literally into dead ends.

As Jessica seeks help from a character seen in previous novels, it feels good to revisit that character interaction with Jessica. The police are on her tail and she needs someone she can trust. Typically, the author's character detailing is second to none and his description of the environment, both the city and the rural landscape is stunning. I could almost feel the earth beneath my hands as Jessica was scrambling around.

This was a book full of trepidation, which the author kept up all the way through. There were shocks and surprises and I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series!

This was a much different Jessica Daniel story than previous books I've read. For one thing, Jessica is actually looked upon as a suspect after meeting a man while searching for her friend Bex, only for that man to be found the next day dead on the beach with Jessica's card in his wallet. Is someone playing a nasty prank on her or does it go much deeper than that? Jessica makes friends with a group of underground homeless women in search of Bex. One thing I loved about this book was that Wilkinson inserted Andrew Hunter, the main character from another series, into the story. Jessica, it turns out, is friends with Andrew and he helps her do some background checks to help her while she is hiding from the police.
Thank you to Netgalley, Kerry Wilkinson, and Bookouture for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
