Another excellent book in this series. Particularly enjoyed the adoption story line as it's close to home right now.
This is the first book I have read in this series so was unsure of what to expect.
On the whole I enjoyed the story, with a couple of issues as below:-
This book is a standalone but does refer back to situations which must have happened in previous books, which made things sometimes, a little confusing.
Without giving too much away a body is found under some patio and with DNA help, was identified, but then towards the end was described as someone's son, when it was actually their brother.
Also police became extremely fixated on one person immediately, without actually identifying why.
Apart from these very small issues was a good read and kept me interested to find out what happens.
Thank you to Bookoutre and Netgalley for giving me the chance to review this book, all opinions are my own.
Promise To The Dead by Aussie writer Victoria Jenkins is book 4 in the Detectives King and Lane series... and the best book so far. I have enjoyed all the books in this series but this one is my favourite so far. I I did not know that the author was an Aussie.. how good is that! If you are a fan of police procedurals I highly recommend this series.
The story begins with Matthew and Stacey taking the lng way home and running out of fuel in the middle of nowhere. Matthew starts to walk to find help and sees something that he shouldn't. The next morning King and Lane are callled to the scene and Stacey has been murdered while Matthew is missing. They find links to another missing local man. Not long after bones are discovered buried in a local backyard. How are the 3 cases connected? The personal lives of the team also hold the readers interest, with them having to make some big decisions.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for my advanced copy of this book. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased
Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book. This is the 4th in the series featuring King and Lane and although I have read them all, this is by far and away my favourite. It had me gripped from beginning to end and the pace does not let up at all. Once you dive into this story you are hurtled along and taken on a roller coaster of a ride. I love everything about Victoria Jenkin's writing, believable characters who have their flaws and every day problems as we all do. This is a fantastic series and its been an honour and a privledge to have read them all. I have no hesitation in recommending this book or the series. A brilliant fast paced gritty read. Do yourself a favour check it out.
Victoria Jenkins is an Australian crime writer and this is the fourth in her series with Detectives Alex King and Chloe Lane. I haven't read any of the previous books, but A Promise to the Dead functions as a stand-alone.
A young couple run out of gas in an isolated area. Matthew leaves his girlfriend in the car as he searches for help. Unfortunately, he winds up seeing something he wasn't supposed to and the next morning he is missing and his girlfriend is dead.
Alex and Chloe have another case of a missing young man, and then the discovery of a body that proves to be that of a young man who went missing thirty years ago. Are the three cases connected? Two recent disappearances and the remains of a young man from decades past keep the team trying to unravel the puzzle.
