Sarina Dorie provides some short and some very short stories along with afterwords that explain what prompted the tale and where it had first appeared. Her story, "Five Tips for Outsmarting Satan - And Your Students," reminded me of a Shirley Jackson short story on a similar theme. So, if you are looking for some short tales to make you smile, grimace, or laugh, do pick up this collection!
These funny short stories made me laugh! They are creative and have unexpected twists on horror tropes. I'm definitely going to read this author's other books now!
Another great collection of short stories by a great writer
I am a big fan of Sarina Dorie and her “Womby's School for Wayward Witches” series, and I also loved her anthology, “Fairies, Robots and Unicorns?--Oh My!” so I was delighted to be able to obtain an advance reader copy for review purposes via Netgalley. This collection of short stories did not disappoint. Similarly to “Fairies, Robots and Unicorns?--Oh My!”,these stories had the same well-paced fun. The stories were very short, so I fell into the “just one more” mode of reading and before I knew it, the book was done. As with the previous anthology, my only criticism of the book is that it could have been longer with more stories. I recommend this book for fans of the genre and especially for Sarina Dorie fans.
I love stories about ghosts, werewolves, vampires, zombies, etc. I was super excited to read this book for that reason. I loved most of the stories and thought they were great. It was a very quick read and kept my attention and made me want to keep going. I also loved the author notes at the end of each story. I found them interesting and funny at times.
However, I noticed that the stories kept getting longer and longer. It is suppose to be a book of short stories and I would say most were short, but some were way longer than others and I am not sure they needed to be.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves anything to do with ghosts, werewolves, vampires, zombies, etc. It is a good read and it has something for everyone.
