This story could have been so entertaining with a better execution. The main issues that stopped me from feeling completely immersed in this book were the pacing and repetitiveness. The attraction and physical relationship between Eric and Harper happened at breakneck speed, so much so that I didn't get a chance to care about them individually or as a couple. Then six years go by and it just doesn't feel believable that this unexplained scorching attraction hasn't waned one bit. Then, there's the repetitiveness of the story and even similar sentence wording; it was distracting and it took away from advancing the general story line. That said, there's enough mystery and intrigue to keep my interest even if it's not a book that I will devour or consider memorable.I
Thank you to NetGalley for.providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
"Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review."
Loved this book very much. It had just enough sweet, sexy romance and the storyline was great! I highly recommend!
Eric is the bastard child. He walked away from the family business, and the family who didn't welcome him, determined to make it on his on. Yet, six years later he's getting sucked back in by the one woman he could never forget. She needs a hero. Eric needs to solve the puzzle of what is happening at Kingston Motors and possibly put his past in the past for good. They're going to have to deal with the secrets and lies between them before they can find the answer and peace they are looking for in each other.
I'm a huge fan of Ms Jones, but I will be the first to admit this one is a slow starter. It's worth sticking around... I promise.
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This book just wasn't for me. I started and stopped reading several times before I finally dug into the story but I never really connected to it. The taboo wasn't all that taboo but the harping on it grew old...quick.
This was a pass for me, and I'm normally quite the fan of Lisa Renee Jones' work. I couldn't get into the story and had a hard time connecting with the characters. Maybe it was the taboo relationship, but all the suspense and sexual tension couldn't get me into it. That said, this wont' keep me from trying another one of Jones' books in the future.
Thank goodness that’s over....review to come.
P.S. This rating is strictly because I’ve read almost every book LRJ has written and I feel this one could’ve had more time to develop...I will finish the duet because there’s a doozy of a cliffhanger in this story, but to keep the cyber-vultures at bay, I felt I needed a slight explanation.
Stay tuned...
**FULL REVIEW**
Let me start by saying this...LRJ is one of my one-click authors. I love her as a person, and as a storyteller. I have read almost all of her books, and always look forward to when she puts something new out. With that said, this book was hugely disappointing.
It felt rushed. The dialog, the character development, the setting, all of it. I felt like she rushed just to get words out without proper proofreading, editing, and beta readers to give proper, critical feedback. In turn, a disservice was delivered to her readers because this is not the quality I've grown to love and hate to say it, but expect, from Jones.
I have never taken this long to get through her stories. My usual MO: sit, open, read until my eyes fall out, and finish...usually within 24-48 hours time. All the while, being so engrossed in the escape her words provide that nothing else gets completed until I turn the last page.
This book?
Didn't happen. There was so little that kept my attention, I literally forced myself to finish because I hate DNF reviews. And I will say...the last 10-15% of the book, I finally was hooked enough to sit and finish the story.
Of course, it ended with a cliffhanger...so, yes. I will be reading the second installment. If for nothing else, it's because I'm so nosy, I have to know what happens to our hero and heroine in the end...and I'm a sucker for happy endings.
But, just like with this book, I won't guarantee that I didn't skim at least a third of it to get to what I wanted to know...fair warning.
**2 Family Business, Stars**
Wow, this was the first novel I have read by this author, I know it won't be my last. I was sucked it from the very first page to the very last. I really enjoyed it. I did not realize it would end on a cliffhanger, but honestly, I still loved it. The chemistry between the characters was off the charts. I can hardly wait to see what happens in the next novel. I need it now!
With thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the book in exchange for an honest review.
This book was a glorious romp through the boardroom, bedroom and wherever else Eric and Harper ended up. It was entertaining, funny and sexy, with skulduggery in business thrown in.
Recommended.
This one is going to piss you off. Too many unanswered questions and a flipping cliffhanger! But it will suck you in and leave you wanting more.
What the hell is going on at Kingston and really why would Eric care, since he's the bastard son. But he's never been able to forget Harper. Yet how can he trust someone's whose "in" the family for the last six years.
Harper and Eric are explosive and we'll all have to wait for more...
This book has it all... suspense, angst, sexual tension, sexual chemistry, the taboo relationship between step-brother and step-sister and mystery upon mysteries.
OMG what a cliff hanger. Can't wait for the conclusion of Eric and Harpers story.
The only negative remark I have us: too much if the Bastard references .
OMG I am loving these characters so much. Eric sounds like someone I would love to met. He’s strong, handsome, self assurance, intelligence. Just finished today and I want to read the next book in the series and if your smart you’ll join me in this journey with Eric.....
1 star
Unfortunately this wasn't for me. I am not into the premise of this book, like at all.
And then there is a cliffhanger ending. Oh Boy!!
I enjoy the pacing of this book and cant wait to share it with my customer. The romance was spicy and cant wait for the rest of the books in his series.
This is the first book in Eric and Harper's romance. Be aware that it does end on a cliffhanger. This book offers plenty of intense emotions, drama, suspense, angst and blazing hot passion. There are so many secrets, lies and twists that will keep you firmly on edge as turn pages, reading as quickly as you can. I loved the attraction, chemistry and connection between Eric and Harper. It was deep, powerful and had me seriously rooting for this couple. I'm eager to see what happens in book two.

Grayson and Harper meet have one night, kinda, and he leaves. Years later she comes to him asking for help. He agrees. There's lots of sex, a very mixed up family, and then #%$*&*# cliffy
This is an intense story about Eric, the bastard son and heir to the Kingston empire, and Harper his step sister. It took a bit to get into this story but I stuck with it and once everything started coming together it made more sense. This was my first book by this author and I look forward to reading the rest of the trilogy.
Now I found the story quite interesting and enjoyed it for the most part. Good writing and storytelling. Thank you!
I'm thankful to have received this book through Netgalley. I was worried I would have been lost since I haven't read the Dirty Rich series. I saw somewhere you could still read this extension of the series and not be lost. They were so right I didn't really feel left out. I know probably Grayson appeared somewhere else I just couldn't pin it.
I love Lisa Renee books and this one was written in her true fashion. The sexual tension, drama, suspense, cliffhanger and the romance. They were some parts that I was getting tired of the Bastard reference. It was like the same thing being repeated over and over in the middle.
This book is good where it has you addicted it's a must read series.
Wow! What a hot read this was! This was by far the best book I have read by this author, and I love all her books! It was wonderfully angsty and naughty too, just what I’ve come to expect and love from Ms. Jones! Straight to my favorites shelf! Well done!
