I love all things relating to fiber arts. This was a cute book with lots of clear illustrations that made the instructions easy to follow. I think it would even work for children with good motor skills. I'd like to try out the circular loom in my children's summer art camp this year. It makes really fun buttons that the kids should love.
This is such an adorable little book. It's perfect for schools or kids crafts. Most of the things like woollen coasters probably aren't as in demand as in days gone by but the ideas are wonderful.
I loved the patterns in this title. The photos, instructions were pretty good.
It was easy to follow and had fun projects with plenty tips and tricks.
This is such a charming collection of ideas for weaving projects! I loved the clean and clear layout and graphics and was impressed by the variety of projects presented. Lovely!
Thank you to Net Galley for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A cute book with clear instructions and diagrams that make it suitable for an absolute beginner or to lend some inspiration for the more seasoned crafter. I have tried most crafts at least once but never got farther than a basic rectangle with weaving. Often, I can master the technique but lack the artistic ideas to convert it into a useful finished project. I now have plans to make new coasters and may even try a little brooch.
I think the projects are necessarily limited due to their size and the skill base of the target reader but this is a book that I would buy once published if only to encourage me to try new ideas.
Exquisite is a wonderful description of this weaving instructional book. The book begins with beautiful photographs of the beautiful items you can make by following the authors instructions. The projects are inspiring and draw the reader to learn more about how these gems are made. The author displays the projects by the type of loom used; Board Looms for mini tapestries, bracelets; Round Looms for buttons, rings; Box looms for coasters, mats; Frame Looms for pouches, totes. She then introduces the materials needed to make these projects including instructions on how to make each type of loom and individual instructions for all 25 projects. This is an excellently thought through book to help the reader become a weaver. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who is interested in creating beautiful objects of art and function with this craft. The author has provided amazing inspiration.
Overall well conceived and accessible. Instructions are clear and concise. The notion of working on a small scale when weaving is often portrayed as a complex process is particularly appealing.
Weaving with Little Handmade Looms is a translated re-release of a tutorial instruction guide on making and using handmade looms. Originally published in Japanese in 2017, the English edition is due out 11 April 2019 from Zakka workshop, is 128 pages and available in paperback format.
Generally seen as an expensive hobby requiring a large commitment in time and equipment, many would-be weavers assume that it's not an achievable goal to learn weaving and create appealing, 'grown-up' projects. This book has some neat tricks for using easily sourced materials to make small homemade looms in several shapes and then piecing the units together into larger finished objects.
There tutorials are split into chapters based on each type/shape of loom. There are instructions included for sourcing materials and creating each of the shapes: board, round, box and frame looms. The chapters include photos and introductions for each of the projects. The tutorials are placed further toward the back of the book. Many of the tutorials have diagrams which illustrate construction techniques.
All in all a good inexpensive introduction to weaving construction. This would also make a good support book for a classroom art module for middle grades and older. It would also be appropriate for a library collection.
Four stars.
I love this! I love the idea of making looms from everyday materials to create small, sentimental pieces to decorate your home. The photos in this book are clear and those, paired with the easy instruction will make you want to start creating. Every inch of this book is inspirational!
As a knitter and crafter living in a very rural area, I so enjoy learning new crafts and the digital world has opened up so many possibilities! Using simple tools and techniques, this book has demystified weaving and I can’t wait to try the projects and make small, beautiful woven things for my home and for gifts for family and friends. What a lovely book!
This is really lovely, so easy to follow with fabulous instructions and lovely simple project to give a taste of weaving without the expensive layout or big loom or projects. Make little woven brooches or lovely little buttons tiny little wall hangings or buntings. All you need is a few sticks, or a matchbox, cardboard, pins or make yourself a tiny wooden loom with nails and wood.
I used to do this as a child, and it was so much fun, using up all my grandmothers odds bits of wool to make some lovely tiny scarves and stuff for my Barbie doll.
Try it you never know it may pique your interest enough to get into larger woven pieces for your home or yourself.
Its a glorious book
