It was a cute story with memorable characters. I enjoyed reading Nina's journey and her family and her romance with Tom. And so much trivia!

Sweet, feel-good read. A safe bet for a beach vacation, or those just looking to get lost in a book.

Thank you to Netgalley for this digital ARC.
I give this book 3.5 stars. Nina Hill is introverted, plans every single day down to the minute, and works in a bookstore. She quickly discovers that her absent father has died and there's a whole lot more family than just her and her constantly traveling mom. I was intrigued by the cover and the description of this book and wasn't sure what to expect. What I got in the end was a so-so romance but a great and well-rounded character with an interesting personal story.
I really connected with Nina because of her love of books and her job. Her quirk of knowing random facts at the drop of a hat really made me like her more. The quiz nights were fun and made me laugh because they always seemed to get out of hand. What made this book for me was the complicated family that Nina eventually becomes a part of. Having nephews that are older than her and sisters decades younger and older was fascinating. I needed a chart myself to keep up with it all. I wanted to keep on reading just so I could see what she ended up with during the will reading.
The romance between Nina and Tom was just okay. It was honestly the weakest part of the whole story. It felt superficial to me and there wasn't a lot of tension or build-up between them. Their conversations lacked passion and substance. There needed to be more to their whole relationship. Too much detail and depth was missing from them as a whole. They were cute but I didn't feel anything for them. I wanted to get back to the financial hardships of the bookstore and learning more about the family.
All that being said, I think this is a solid book with plenty of entertainment sprinkled throughout the pages.

Nina loves to read and works in a book store. She likes her life just the way it is. But, change is inevitable. She learns that she has a Dad and he is dead. She learns that she has a very large family. And, they want her to be a part of it. She learns she has a lot in common with her very large family. Oh and she met a guy. This is a lot of change and is hard for Nina to cope with especially given she has anxiety. Family, Boyfriend, Anxiety. She wants her quiet life back! Or does she?

I loved this novel! Abbi Waxman takes us into the life of Nina Hill and her friends and newly found family. This book will have you laughing out loud (which I did often). We have all been Nina Hill at times, navigating through life and anxiety. She sometimes stumbles but always manages to pull through. I have ordered this book for my library and will bring it to the book club I host.
Ms. Waxman, thank you for this witty, wonderful read. And thank you for the laughs, we all need to laugh!

What a pleasure to venture into Nina Hill's bookish life. An only child, Nina has lived a quiet life dictated by her daily planner - read, work at her beloved bookstore, trivia night, friends, repeat. When her life is turned upside down by the sudden appearance of an entire extended family, uncertainty at work and a rivalry turned new relationship, we see Nina's plans go out the window and enjoy the journey that ensues. For fans of Maria Semple and Jennie Colgan.

What a fun book to read! Plenty of sensible chuckles and some laugh out loud moments were had. The characters are funny and relatable, and I enjoy the random trivia facts peppered here and there. Okay, so maybe the whole "we're family and the proof is in the genetics that make us do and like similar things" thing was a tad overdone, but overall the story was quite enjoyable. It also reminds me of how much I enjoy reading. Thank you!

I couldn't get through Abbi Waxman's other book, Other People's House, I just could not finish it. But I really enjoyed this book.

Probably because I identify much more with an awkward bookworm than a bunch of families all holding secrets about each other... This was a fun read and I highly recommend it!

This was a great read. Waxman runs me through all the emotions. Her quirky characters are always fun and Nina is no exception. Nina's story is true book nerd...I know because that is exactly me... Thank you Abby Waxman for yet another fun 2 days with your new cast of characters

As an avid reader, I adored this book. It was wonderful to see the interplay between all the characters and how their personalities and quick conversations furthered the story. I particularly enjoyed the exploration and explanation of an introverted life without the typical "you need to get out more" comments. Nina was very assured of who she is and it brought another pleasing element to the story. It was a great title and I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel!

Took me a bit to get into it, but I’m glad I stuck with it. Nina is a likeable enough character but I got a little frustrated with her lack of communication with others, but hey, she’s someone we all know and love. I kept picturing Tom as the actor Chris O’Doud for some reason. This is a very cute story and those of us who breathe books will enjoy!

Nina Hill has constructed a life of work she enjoys, friends, and a carefully planned schedule of activities to keep her anxiety in check. But when a series of events collide that disrupts her life can she find a way not to let her anxiety rush in and ruin everything? Abbi Waxman again brings you a character you identify with and she is connected to characters from previous books.

I loved this book! I adore Abbi Waxman's books and this one is my favorite so far. I loved seeing characters from past books and I hope that Waxman keeps going in that direction and brings some of these characters to light in another story.
Nina is so much like so many people I know. I am a librarian and I do like people but I like to spend time with books too. I loved the feeling like i was there with these characters and just wanted to go live in their world too. I wanted to give this book a big hug!. I liked that Nina inherited so many siblings and nieces and nephews, she needed more people to be close with in her life. I am glad that she was able to realize that life isn't always about doing what's planned. I loved the changes in her daily planner, especially how it changed with her different moods. She felt so real and if she was I would want her to be my best friend! Please write more with these characters Abbi Waxman I would read them all!

I started this book with hope. It sounded cute and it was up until chapter three on where it talked of sex and getting laid...and kind of nothing else. I was really disappointed.

The Bookish Life of Nina Hill is the most enchanting novel I've read. Ever. Period. I will preface by sharing that I am a huge fan of Abbi Waxman, and have been since I discovered her work through Book of the Month. There's just something about this author, and how relatable she makes her characters.

Nina Hill is every bookish girl alive. She embodies what it means to be a book lover, the thoughts that we introverts have while engaging with others, the exaggerated way in which we interact with one another when we find a book that we are deeply passionate about.

Every chapter read like a diary entry, because of how closely aligned I was to Nina, and how "me" she felt. At some points, I thought, "do Waxman and I share a brain?"

She is brilliant, truly, and writes from such a raw, real place, with humor and introspection. I hope to be half the author that Waxman is someday - and half the reader that Nina is!

This is one of the funniest and most heartwarming books that I have read in ages. Nina could have been me 40 years ago, but unfortunately I didn't know all the trivia that she does and didn't inherit a family. These factors make her all the more endearing and the dialogue is hilarious. On a serious note, the author does describe very well the effects of anxiety which is indeed self-limiting and shows that a full life can be obtainable .

Nina Hill is perfectly happy with her life just the way it us. She has a job at a bookstore,, a trivia team, several book clubs and a cat named Phil to keep her busy. Then life starts to get complicated. She finds herself attracted to a guy on the opposing trivia team, and she learns that the father she never knew has died and left her with lots of new family members. And her presence is required at the reading of his will.. All this upheaval is told in a breezy, humorous style and makes for an easy, enjoyable read.

The Bookish Life of Nina Hill is bound to be on every introverted book lovers to-read list. It was certainly on mine. I loved the writing style and the journal entry notes at the beginning of each chapter. Most of the characters were well developed and totally believable. The only criticism I have is that Nina is so painfully introverted she literally runs away from talking to a guy she likes, but is somehow a totally uninhibited sex kitten with him. It just doesn’t seem plausible and seemed at odds with her personality the entire rest of the book.
