This is the first book by Steven Konkoly that I have read. It is formulaic. You have a hero and conspiracy that involves several groups. David vs Goliath. Good vs Evil. Who will win? You know who will win in the end. It is just a matter of how we get there. The story is not very realistic but it is entertaining. It would make a good made for TV movie. Think the A-Team.
A full book sprint through conspiracy, survival, betrayal, alliance and action. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Great story!! Really great plot and a story I would recommend to everyone. Great new author to add to my must read list.
Once again thanks to the Author Publisher and NetGalley for providing a free Kindle copy of this book for me to read and honestly review.
This is an all action thriller, gripping and entertaining from start to finish. Imagine a hero with the bravery guts and smarts of Jack Reacher the brains and all around skills of Bourne and that is Ryan Decker, and his sexy sidekick ain't no slouch either. Clever intriguing well written, descriptive with believable characters, an excellent start to this new engaging series. Plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing and lots of terrific action set pieces.
Only slight downside somewhat far fetched but just let that slide and enjoy.
Recommended.
The Rescue by Steven Konkoly is an international spy thriller packed with suspense, conspiracies, and danger. This isn’t a throwback to some Forsyth thriller though. This is about anger, revenge, and betrayal. It’s a gritty tale of a weaponized virus being sold to the highest bidder. You need to read this dark, twisted espionage thriller.
A different type of novel than his past works. I tried to get into it, but it was not possible. I will not be suggesting for purchase.
The Rescue is the first of a 2 book series featuring Ryan Decker. Though I found it entertaining, it didnt compel me to pick up book 2. I think that the reason I am on the fence, is that I found the characters to be two dimensional. I like a more character driven story, and The Rescue is more of an action driven novel. I will definitely say that the pacing is non stop, and if you like risky, action packed situations The Rescue fits that need. I appreciated that Steven Konkoly wrote conversationally, and the use of jargon and acronyms is limited.
I received my copy through NetGalley under no obligation.
I just finished reading a free copy of this book, The Rescue, I received from NetGalley. If you like action, mystery and a bit of suspense this is definitely the book for you. It kept me captivated from the beginning.
Ryan Decker and his team work hard to rescue victims of human trafficking. Decker and his team are hired by an esteemed senator when her daughter is one of the kidnapped victims. The team finds the senator's daughter against all odds, but unknowingly walk into a conspiracy much bigger than originally thought.
When the rescue of the senators daughter goes disastrously wrong, Decker finds himself imprisoned and most of his team and family wiped out.
After his release from prison, Decker and his associates play an intense game of "Tag" with several high powered groups, trying to clear his name and seek justice for those lost along the way.
The Rescue is a fast paced, action filled book that I had a hard time putting down once I started. I cannot wait for Book 2.
The Rescue by Steven Konkoly, a fun quick paced thriller read. Decker and his team are retrieval specialists. They retrieve kidnap victims and others for a lot of money. The case he is on goes south, and he winds up in jail. But after he has time to think about it, he realizes maybe there was more to that last case than met the eye.
'The Rescue' is a fun and fast paced acti0on story that keeps your interest from beginning to end. I most especially enjoy stories where the characters, both good and bad, have flaws and make mistakes. The only issue I had with the story is the making of the chase scenes too complicated. They were too difficult to follow, no pun intended.
A great spy thriller. The characters are intense and determined on both sides of the conspiracy. There were lots of false leads that really keep you guessing. This story is not for the faint of heart. It is violent and bloody with a very believable plot. I could not put id down.
Thank you NET GALLEY FOR THE COPY!
Okay well yeah, I liked Konkoly's writing because there is a lot of guns, violence, mayhem, and a variety of characters who seem driven. Here is the thing, when its a series we pretty much know how things woill end don;t we? Anyway, great action here so enjoy.
Ryan Decker, a former CIA operative turned mercenary, is framed in a hostage rescue gone bad. Most of his team were either killed during the op or murdered shortly thereafter along with their families. After serving only part of his sentence Decker is mysteriously freed. With the help of private investigator, Harlow Mackenzie, he goes on a quest to find the truth.
Konkoly’s first novel in the Ryan Decker series, The Rescue, pulls out all the stops in this high-speed thrill ride. The character development is some of the best I’ve read. The story is so compelling that you cannot put it away. The hairpin twists will have you going “What!?!?”
Seems like everyone wants Decker dead. But, why? There are many layers to this story. Peeling back each one to reach the core is more exciting than a theme park ride.
5 out of 5 stars.
In your list of authors who consistently produce outstanding action thrillers, add the name Steven Konkoly, who has just “taken cuts” to move ahead of many others with this new series. Action hero Ryan Decker battles a variety of bad guys as he clears his own name, gets revenge, and uncovers conspiracies.
I enjoyed reading this book. It had a good story to it. I liked the variety of characters in it. It is my first book read by this author. I hope to read more books by this author.
There so many reviews for this, I cannot add any value. So I'll just say that if you're looking for a solid thriller, this is it. It's not character-driven (many thrillers are not), but has good action (sometimes over-the-top) and will keep you engaged. Recommended.
I really appreciate the copy for review!!
Steve Konkoly is one of today's best writers of action thrillers and his new series beginning with THE RESCUE does not disappoint. (Case in point, he has remained on the Amazon best-seller list for weeks now).
I interviewed Steve on my radio show because he's such a disciplined writer and asked him about this book. It's a departure from his dystopian series that he's been writing over the past few years and it's nice to see some fresh characters who are flawed but on the side of the angels Ryan Decker (first book in the new series) a former CIA operative whose specialty is finding kidnapped victims, experiences an epic fail when trying to bring home the daughter of a US Senator. He is subsequently jailed and once he is released unexpectedly, can't figure out why and surmises that this too, is a set up. He couldn't be more correct.
Konkoly grabs the reins on this thriller and whips his characters to push to the edges of each and every page. I highly recommend this book and the series that will surely follow.
About six years ago, I read The Jakarta Pandemic by Steven Konkoly. I've subsequently read several more Konkoly titles and appreciated the suspense, pacing, and relatable characters. The same was true of Konkoly's book, "The Rescue." Decker reminded me of Jason Bourne... from the moment Decker was (surprisingly) released from prison, the reader takes a fascinating and suspenseful journey with lots of twists and turns. Highly recommend The Rescue to suspense / action fans.
Ryan Decker, decorated Marine veteran and former CIA operative, began his own company. Their mission statement: to save those who have been taken from their families. When asked to look for a Senator's daughter, Ryan's company does their best to find her. Unfortunately, things go terribly wrong and Ryan Decker gets blamed. Did this good man go bad or is there something sinister going on?
I loved how Mr. Konkoly interwove several different perspectives and allowed the reader to follow along as the clues are gathered. He did this all the way up until the final reveal.
Parental note: There is violence as well as adult language and situations that may be disturbing to some people.
Awesome! Steve's writing gets better with every new story. Very fast pace, can not put it down! Buy it and enjoy!
