I’ve just finished reading Steven Konkoly's new book, The Rescue (an ARC) and it is absolutely wonderful. This is the first book in his new series and I'm sure it is going to be a big hit. Ryan Decker is a very engaging character. I find him to be equal with Lee Child’s Jack Reacher and Diane Capri’s Michael Flint in likeability. I'm sure he'll have both backstories and future adventures to carry him through a long series of entertaining books. Looking forward to reading many more books in this series.
When I first read the brief synopsis of The Rescue, it didn't appeal to me for some reason. I chose to read it because I have enjoyed all of Steven Konkoly's books, and I'm glad I did.
The Rescue starts fast and doesn't slow down. Ryan Decker was setup in the beginning and with help, he goes after those them.
I can't wait for this series to continue.
The author is one of my favorite Apocalyptic writers and I have enjoyed several of his novels and think that his preparation advice given indirectly through the stories is really good.
This thriller surprised me because the story had nothing to do with the world as we know it coming to an end. From the first flash back chapter of a hostage rescue that goes totally wrong, with consequences to the hostage, the parents, the various villains and the rescue team. In fact the rescue team members' families are destroyed too. Then the story proceeds to how the Rescue leader Ryan suspiciously emerges from prison.
Next is a fast pacing tale of hide and seek for the truth and Ryan gets help from a private investigator Harlow.
The story has a lot of twists and turns and the quest that Ryan and Harlow are on develops logically but with some surprising turns.
I enjoyed the book, and think that the author Mr. Konkoly has written in a new style very well.
I compare reading this book to sliding down a long, steep tunnel slide. You get comfortable and start the story; and then the next thing you know, BAM! You are committed and just can't put the book down because so much is happening, so fast, and you just need to find out how this one situation ends, but that one leads you right into the next situation, and you tell yourself that you will read just one more chapter, and ..... read, repeat. And then the book is done. This is a wonderful black ops, government conspiracy, political thriller. The story weaves together so many different groups/organizations all operating on the same playing field furthering their own agendas so you get shifting alliances. The characters come alive, and you will love them or hate them. This book would actually make an awesome action-packed, guy-flick that gals would also rave about! So .... I enjoyed the book and know that you will, too!
I have read other books by Steven Konkoly and always found them including this one well written. The action is nonstop and the characters are not one-dimensional. You are easily hooked because it is thoroughly enjoyable to read.. The situations are plausible and understandable.
As usual Steve Konkoly has a another great book, and another great series in the making. Ryan Decker is a serious hero! A must read for political thriller fans!!
An unabashed Konkoly fan, I was eager to get my hands on The Rescue, the first in the Ryan Decker series. It did not disappoint. The action is non-stop. The characters are well developed for a series first, and Ryan, Mackenzie, Katie, and Pierce are already favorite characters I want to learn more about. The quality of the story-telling and pace was engrossing. I am sure Harcourt will show up again as a viciously vindictive antagonist hell bent on revenge. I can hardly wait.
Another great read from Steve, really entertains and keeps your attention. Great characters, great plot, with enough twists and turns to keep it interesting. Fairly realistic equipment, tactics and weapons. The good guys are pretty lucky as well, but you are rooting for them the whole time so why not. Cannot wait for the next installment.
