4 stars!
So far, this is my favorite book in this series! Landon and Sunnie have known each other forever. He is her brother's best friend. She was always been their annoying third wheel growing up.
A drunken kiss starts something neither knew they wanted, until it happened. Then things snow ball and with the help of a viral video of the 2 of them, things escalate quickly. Now, they wonder what took so long for them to see what has been in front of them the whole time!
Landon is not pretending!
Policeman Landon Riggs has always been around Sunday (Sunnie) Young because he was best friends with her brother. After a kiss at a boozy April Fools’ party, she started dating somebody else. Then they kissed when Landon saved Sunnie during a robbery that was captured by a reporter. The video of Landon and Sunnie went viral and they became famous. They were forced to pretend to date to get people to leave them alone. Little did Sunnie know that to Landon it was never pretending!
I love Mari Carr’s writing and friends to lovers is one of my favorite types of romances to read. June Kisses is the sixth book in the Wilder Irish series and if the reader wants even more great stories they need to read the Wild Irish series which is about the parents of the cousins.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed Sunnie and Landon's story. This was a mixture of the brother's best friend/best friend/fake relationship theme, and it really worked. The story was fresh, light, and quirky. The real standout to me was Landon. He was the perfect blend of Boy Scout and Alpha Male, and when he went after Sunnie, it was tender and single minded. Sunnie was characterized as a "free spirit". If that's a euphemism for sowing her wild oats unencumbered, then yes, she is. Although I respect her right to do so, I don't particularly bond with this type of character. Despite that, she was fun and a very nice counter balance for Landon.
This story was well written, and contemporary. The language and issues of the day are used in order to further the storyline, and I enjoyed it very much. I would like to read more from Mari Carr.
While the plot may seem somewhat cliché, Mari Carr has again managed to put her own personal spin on an older brothers best friend romance, and make it work.
Landon and Sunnie have great chemistry and the ongoing banter throughout the story is wonderful. Landon has always pined for the family connection his best friend has, and once he notices how his little sister has grown into a beautiful, full of life young woman, all bets are off!
So if you’re looking for an uplifting, feel good, quirky read; then this is definitely the book for you. And trust me when I say, you won’t be able to put it down once you start.
Sunnie has known her brother's best friend, Landon, since childhood when she was just the annoying little sister tagging along behind him and her brother, Finn. As they've grown up, the three have become an inseparable trio. When faced with the decision of whether or not to move to New York with his girlfriend, Audrey, Landon opts to stay in Baltimore and spends the next year in sleepless nights wondering if he made the right decision. Sunnie is impulsive and carefree flitting from guy to guy, but not serious about anyone. Honestly, she just struck me as an airheaded idiot much of the time. She puts herself in a dangerous situation which Landon saves her from and the two, or at least one of them, begin to question the true nature of their feelings for each other.
Maybe I've just been reading historicals too much lately, but the dialogue on this one just fell a bit flat for me. "Legit" was used as well and not even as part of a dialogue, but as a description; it drives me crazy to hear this much less see it in print. I guess that's just a modern thing, but it still makes my eye twitch.
The blurb is a bit misleading because Landon is also Sunnie's best friend, not just her brother's and his ex only has one short scene; any problems between them are ones that Sunnie herself made. Despite the couple of things that made me cringe, I enjoyed the book; I was rooting for Landon, but I don't think Sunnie deserved him.
I received a complimentary ARC via NetGalley. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This story was pretty wonderful. It is the first time I am reading this author and series but I seriously have fallen in love with this series and I went back and read the previous books in the series. This is a 2nd generation series, which means there is a whole series featuring Sunnies, parents and aunts and uncles. That said this story easily stands alone.
This story has 4 parts. The very beginning takes place with Sunnie, Landon, her brother Finn and her grandfather when she is very young. The 2nd part is a prologue and starts a year before the story. At that point Landon is in love with his girlfriend but she is moving away and he has to decide whether to follow her. Then the book starts 1 year later and he and Sunnie are amazing friends and he is now single and they share a hot kiss but then life goes on and the book picks up 4 months later and that is when the story really kicks in,
Landon is a police officer and he grew up with Finn and Sunnie and is very close to her family. He even works with her father. One day he is doing partol when he sees her being mugged. He saves her but they end up kissing and it is caught on film.
He ends up as a viral video and is being followed by women everywhere. He decides Sunni should be his pretend girl friend to save him from all the women. What Sunnie does not know is that it is not pretend for Landon. So this is his shot with the girl he wants forever,
I absolutely loved every minute of the story. I loved the writing and the characters and everything about it.
Landon has been an honorary member of the Collins family since he came home with Sunday’s brother Finn after school. They became fast friends but things turned strange at the April Fool’s party after a tequila laced kiss. Landon realises that Sunnie has become more than a sister to him but knows her legendary fear of commitment requires a careful strategy. Another winner from Mari Carr. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Sometimes you need a break from thrillers and a good ole romance...I adored man character, Landon, as well as the story line. These types of books are not always my “thing,” but I found this story to be especially refreshing.
Sunnie and Landon have known each other since they were kids, he is her brothers best friend, and since graduation hers too. They never had any romantic feelings for each other till one night they kiss. They blame the kiss on tequila and try to move on. But then Landon kisses her again after saving her from mugging and the kiss goes viral.
Landon knows how he feels but also knows Sunnie is not there yet, so he comes up with a plan of pretend relationship. What will happen when Sunnie realizes the pretend relationship is not so pretend after all.
This is my first book in the Wilder Irish series and I loved it. I enjoyed Sunnies free spirit character and Landon’s sweet, romantic and solid one. And their chemistry is off the charts hot. I look forward to reading more in the series.
I am so excited that June Kisses is my first review of the new year. This was another excellent love story by Mari Carr. Landon, Sunnie and her brother Finn have been best friends since they were children. Even though in the beginning Sunnie was the little sister that was constantly horning in on guy time, but as they got older, she became part of a trio. After a drunken kiss one night, things start to change between Sunnie and Landon, they are both shocked by their reaction but try to play it off as nothing. It was after Landon saves her from a mugging that he no longer doubts his feelings towards Sunnie. Unfortunately Sunnie is not in the place in her life to settle down. She knows all about the Collins curse; once they find love nothing else matters. She wants all that but not yet, she wants to continue with her nursing career for awhile, sow a few wild oats, but Landon has found his one and he will stop at nothing to have her.
This was such a great read! I loved everything about it. I really loved Sunnie’s character, she is a fun-loving, free-spirit, but I think Landon was my favorite. He comes across as this nice, romantic guy looking for “the one” but boy he can be a very bossy bad boy alpha. The heat between the two becomes scorching, the things he says and does to Sunnie to convince her they are meant to be is off the charts hot. When Sunnie finally realizes this “pretend girlfriend” ploy may not be so pretend, her fear of commitment comes to the forefront and she runs. But when the ex-girlfriend returns all bets are off.
I love this family so much, Pop Pop is always a favorite, his wisdom, the love he still has for his Sunday and the love he has for the whole family is so heart-warming. I highly recommend this book! I cannot wait for the next installment!
Thank you Netgalley and Kobo Writing Life for giving me the opportunity to read this complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
This is my favorite of the Wilder Irish series yet, and that's saying something.
I love the close relationship and banter between Sunny and Landon, and the steam Mari Carr generates on the page between those two. Super sexy, also a really lovely love story.
As many others have said, this is a HEA, definitely okay as a standalone, but I love the whole series and think it's nice to know the backstory.
I had things to do today, but I did not do them. I sat and read this book in two sittings. I regret nothing.
I did receive an advance copy of this ebook for an unbiased and honest review. This review is my truthful opinion. This book rocked.
This is sunnie and Landon book, sunnie is Landon best friends little sister but they have all been friends since they were really little . This one wasn't one of my favorite I just couldn't get into the characters for some reason?! I definitely enjoyed the first series but this one is just ok it's worth reading but not my favorite! Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for sharing this book with me!
Sunnie, Landon, and her brother Finn have been best friends since childhood. Sunnie is the free spirited, commitment phobia, and a nurse. Landon is a cop and is ready for the white picket fence and kids. When Sunnie is mugged and Landon pulls up and the guys runs, the reporter riding with him, catches Landon kisses Sunnie and then carries her to the car. It becomes a viral hit and he has women parked outside the precinct and following him. So he comes up with an idea to have Sunnie play his pretend girlfriend. But really he wants her to be his real girlfriend, it’ll just take some planning and wild sex.
Funny. Friends to lovers. Very steamy. And of course Pop Pop and his wisdom. I can’t wait to read about Finn. This family is loving, crazy, and makes you want to be a part of them too.

Fun, sexy friends to lovers romance.
The books in Mari Carr's Wilder Irish series can be read as stand alones but the family relationship is woven throughout the books added realism to the stories. I was really looking forward to Landon and Sunnie's story and it was worth the wait. I loved the chemistry between them and the moments when they each realize their relationship has moved beyond friendship. The plot held my attention and the sexy scenes were well done. I received an advance reader copy via Netgalley.
Landon is nothing but patient with Sunnie in this book, because when it comes to what's between them, he cannot lie to save his heart and turns out that she too cannot run scared for long.
This is a sweet romance, it's got some sizzling scenes between Landon and Sunnie and to top it off, a nosy family that wants nothing but the best for the Sunshine in their life. Thanks Netgalley for the eARC.
