Very unbelievable and drawn out story. I struggled with this book. I couldn't connect with any of the characters, in fact Louisa and Brian just got me more and more annoyed as I read about them. Unfortunately I got so unmotivated by the story that I did not finish it and left it at 29%.
Excellently written plenty of twists and turns keeps u guessing till the end unforgettable characters. A compelling thriller about the dark side of maternal instinct and love – I couldn't put it down!
I really enjoyed this thriller, it kept me on my toes for the whole time. With all the twists the reader wonders who's telling the truth. It is a top pick of mine for a light summer read.
For me this book was okay. There were times I was really drawn into the story and there were times that I thought the story was just dragging along. I wasn't a huge fan of Louisa and often felt sorry for her husband Brian. I am now quite sure how I feel about the ending and what all happened at the end. I liked the overall idea of the book, I am just not a big fan of how this was put together. Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books for an ARC of this title.
THE MNISSING WIFE by Sam Carrington is a great novel of suspense. I am glad I was picked to read this one because it is amazing. It has bit of everything, suspense, heart and great characters.
The Missing Wife by Sam Carrington sounded like another woman-in-danger-psychological-thriller novel. It has an interesting premise: Louisa is turning forty, living with her husband and their teenage daughter, and her newborn son (surprise!) She is exhausted, having trouble remembering and focusing (including on important things, like “did I feed the baby?” And “where did I put the baby?”). All she wants is a good night’s sleep, so when her best friend Tiff and her husband Brian tell her they have arranged for her to have an overnight getaway at a quiet inn, she is thrilled. The LAST thing she wants is to celebrate turning forty, feeling like she does.
Tiff isn’t just Louisa’s BEST friend, she is pretty much her ONLY friend, so Tiff goes to Facebook (which she had set up for Louisa long ago, but Louisa never uses) and invites a boatload of Louisa’s old college classmates to a surprise birthday party. BTW, Louisa doesn’t particularly like surprises, whether it is a birthday party or her newborn son. Among the partygoers is Louisa’s old flame Oliver, who dumped her many years ago.
Oliver’s wife Melissa turns up missing after the party, and it seems like everyone remembers what happened that night differently. Except Louisa, who doesn’t remember much of anything, so she isn’t much help to the police who naturally look at Oliver as the first suspect. (I never did get why Louisa was popping pills or what they were, exactly).
So here we are, a thriller that involves a missing woman. It’s become a pretty standard genre, and you know what you will get when you read a book like this, including some unexpected twists and the main character in some kind of danger at some point.
I admit I generally enjoy psychological thrillers, and I really liked the initial premise. Many will find this to be a decent thriller and should definitely check it out. But I really didn’t care about any of the characters (particularly Louisa), and felt the twists to be a bit contrived. And I wasn’t all that broken up when certain things happened to certain people! I kept looking at the percentage of completion, wanting to just get it over with. So, for me, it is only three stars (and I am a notoriously easy grader). Thanks to Avon books and NetGalley for the early copy of this June 2019 release in exchange for my honest review.
I loved this book until I got three quarters through when I felt the style changed and what had previously been a believable story line became a little farcical. I still enjoyed it overall and has lots going for it as mystery, certainly worth a go.
Laura’s husband, Brian, has arranged a surprise 40th birthday party with the help of her best friend, Tiff. Laura is not particularly enthralled, she’s exhausted having recently had a baby and is struggling to cope. Her friend has hacked her Facebook account to invite all Laura’s contacts including Oliver who she hasn’t seen for twenty years and was her first love. Laura is shocked and unhappy to see Oliver and clearly wishes he wasn’t there.
After the party it appears that Oliver’s wife has disappeared although nobody remembers seeing her there. The mystery evolves from here.
I loved this book! It had me hooked immediately. All I wanted to do was sit around and read, all day. It was well written and had so many twists and turns. I will definitely be on the lookout for more of this author's work!
With a cast full of unlikeable characters and a story that was a bit confusing. I was slightly disappointed with the plot and barely finished.
What a book. I was hooked just from the cover and description. Thankfully I was not disappointed. This is a fast paced read. Easy to read. Your on the edge of your seat wondering which way it’s heading. Fantastic read
Louisa is turning 40 and after a surprise pregnancy has a newborn who doesn't stop crying and doesn't sleep, which means Louisa doesn't sleep either. Her husband and teenage daughter aren't much help either. Louisa begins to forget things -- again -- and we find out that she's had selective amnesia at other points in her life. Her husband and best friend Tiff decide to throw her a surprise party, but they don't know who her friends are, so they break in to her unused Facebook page and invite a bunch of her high school and college "friends" who she hasn't talked to in years, including her ex, Oliver, who left her heartbroken years earlier. His wife goes missing and he says she was at the birthday party, but no one remembers seeing her...
Honestly, this didn't work for me. Oliver was creepy from the start, Tiffany wasn't a very nice best friend, and who leaves a person alone with a newborn when she keeps forgetting to feed him?! It just didn't make sense. And the ending just didn't work for me either. Sounds like this author's earlier books might have been better, so I might give those a try instead.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this ARC. It did not influence my review.
Thank you for this ARC!
SO GOOD. I love a domestic thriller and this did not disappoint. It was slow burning plot that I couldn't put down. The characters were well thought out which made it a little tough to figure out the climax. Highly recommend.
This book was ok but having read other books by this author I was a little disappointed. I felt it was all a bit jumbled.
Enjoyed this book, a bit jumbled in some places but an enjoyable thriller, perfect for the morning commute!
What a gem of a book. It drew me in from the first page.
It made me gasp at times and kept me guessing.
I loved the story and all it’s twists and turns.
A great story.
Very good read. Was very happy to see how the storyline was created. Suspenseful and very engaging. The ending was also 'very good.. Highly recommend this book if a quick read is what you want.

This book had my attention from the first page. I loved The Missing Wife by Sam Carrington. There are twists and turns and I found that I was really questioning what was happening, I mean that in the best way. I like a book where I can’t figure out what direction the author will take us in.
Here’s the plot:
Louisa is an exhausted, sleep-deprived new mother and, approaching her fortieth birthday, the very last thing she wants to do is celebrate.
But when her best friend Tiff organises a surprise party, inviting the entire list of Lou’s Facebook friends, she’s faced with a new source of anxiety altogether: a room full of old college classmates who she hasn’t spoken to in twenty years. And one person in particular she never expected to see again is there – her ex-boyfriend from college, the handsome and charismatic Oliver Dunmore.
When Oliver’s wife Melissa goes missing after the party, everyone remembers what happened that night differently. It could be the alcohol, but it seems more than one person has something to hide. Louisa is determined to find the truth about what happened to Melissa. But just how far does she need to look…?
I liked the character of Lousia, a tired mom who gets caught up with an ex. This kept me on the edge of my seat. Highly recommended! Only $2.99 on Kindle, delivered on June 27.
Imagine turning up to your own party, and recognizing no one. Your best friend has just created your worst nightmare.
The Missing Wife centers around Louisa, a sleep deprived mother, who sometimes cannot distinguish between dream and reality. Her husband Brian and best friend Tiff set up a surprise party for Louisa's 40th birthday, thinking it will be a fun night out for her. The only person Louisa recognizes at her party is Oliver, her childhood sweetheart who she hasn't seen in 20 years. She proceeds to keep drinking and wakes up barefoot, with no recollection of how she got home. She has flashes of the night and feels like something sinister happened.
After the party, Oliver reaches out to Louisa and tells her that his wife is missing and that she was last seen at the party. But Louisa doesn't remember seeing his wife, but fears that something terrible happened that she can't remember.
For the most part, I enjoyed the book. At times, I was frustrated with the author's portrayal of Louisa and felt that the characters could have been developed more. Overall, a great read with some shocking twists and turns!
I’d like to thank Avon Books UK and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Missing Wife’ by Sam Carrington in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Louisa is struggling to cope with a screaming new-born infant as well as caring for husband Brian and teenage daughter Emily. Unknown to Louisa, her best friend Tiff arranges a 40th birthday party at a local pub for her and hacks into Louisa’s Facebook account inviting all her old friends from university. But someone Louisa never expected to see again is her ex-boyfriend Oliver Dunmore who arrives with his new wife Melissa, but it’s only when he reports to the police that his wife is missing that Louisa wonders if Melissa ever attended the party at all.
This is disturbing psychological thriller that becomes more involving as the plot unfolds as Louisa can’t remember what happened the night of the party and Oliver appears to be keeping something secret from her. It’s been cleverly written with believable characters, twists and turns, and an ending that took me by surprise. This is a thriller not to be missed.
