A slightly slow start but it gets better!! A sliding doors type novel which becomes frustrating to read how close they get but not quite! Feel good and heartwarming, a lovely story
Modern romance perfection, I read this over weekend and couldn't put it down. To me it easily could be something that is happening to people now on the underground as their lives intermix. When I used to travel to London I used to enjoy reading the 'missed connections' box, thinking and hoping that they would meet and it would all happen happily ever after.
It ticks all the boxes of engaging and believable charactors, relatable problems and plots but enough twists to keep you engaged and rotting for them.
As warming as a hot chocolate in Autumn, lined up to be the perfect rom com movie!
I loved Our Stop, finding so much to relate to and enjoy about this sweet, charming romantic comedy. The relatable wit and humour of 29 year old (same age as me!) Nadia, who is scatty and always resolving to be more organised and become the ‘new her’, was really engaging to read about, as well as romantic Daniel, and those many ‘near misses’ between them that have a real sense of fate threaded through them. I also loved how funny and amusing the story was, particularly at the beginning.
I loved the premise of this story – Daniel spies a girl he really likes one lunchtime and then sees her on his morning commute, so he sends in an advert to the ‘missed connections’ section of the paper. Therein starts a series of connections between them – mainly correspondence through the paper – as well as lots of ‘could have beens’.
The characters are believable and likeable and I just loved losing myself in Nadia and Daniel’s story. Sure, there are bits that you have to suspend your disbelief for a little, but that’s to be expected I think, and this never overshadows the story. The fact that the book is based in London, and mostly around an area I work in too, means it’s even more relatable and enjoyable.
Laura Jane Williams sums up the humour of being a nearly-30 year old in London and I found myself laughing at various points, and this only added to the charm of the novel for me!
As someone who usually sticks to crime fiction/ thrillers, largely because I really hate cheesiness, I’m so pleased I found a book in the romantic comedy genre that I loved so much. I was completely absorbed in this story and found it struck just the right balance between being sweet and romantic without too cloying or cheesy. Laura Jane Williams has it just right – ‘feel good’ sums it up perfectly – and for this reason I wouldn’t hesitate to read anything else she releases, in fact I’ll be first in line 🙂
OH MY GOSH I LOVED THIS HIDDEN GEM SO HARD! I feel like no one is talking about this book and I don't understand why?! It's the perfect British rom-com and I NEED it to be made into a movie immediately. Preferably with Emilia Clarke as Nadia. I also loved how "woke" this book was. Emotionally available men and some seriously bada$$ feminist ladies... so great! I can't recommend this one enough especially if you are looking for a heartwarming while also being laugh out loud funny romance. 5 stars!
A witty and wonderful revamp of a modern Sliding Doors 'will-they-won't-they' rom-com. Each page brought butterflies to my tummy as I devoured Nadia and Daniel's #OurStop journey. I loved it!
Not really my type of book.
A romantic book about 2 people who travel on the same tube each morning.Daniel wants to know Nadia better, so starts leaving ads in Missed Connections for her.
Not enough depth to the characters for me, but was an easy read. Thanks to Netgalley for an Arc.
I loved this. It was a great read. So many close calls throughout and I was really rooting for the main characters. Highly recommended.
Laura Jane Williams said on Twitter that writing this book made her believe in love again, and I really felt that energy coursing through this sweet rom-com. While I love Williams's voice, and thought that the plot was quite fun, I overall felt that the book could have done with a sharper edit. It was a tad too long, and especially in the first half, dragged a bit and needed to focus too much on the wider cast of characters to support the story (when I was really just here for the romance!) I would have loved a bit snappier plot in terms of length, a bit more show and bit a less tell, and more substantial character development, particularly in Nadia's case. But if you are a fan of rom-coms (especially British rom-coms like 'One Day in December') you will find this one an enjoyable read.
This was a fun, refreshing read. Chick lit can often be repetitive, but Our Stop puts a truly London spin on it. The almost meetings and narrow misses are cute and keep the story interesting. I like that both Nadia and Daniel are realistic characters that you can relate to. Good job Ms, Williams- well worth the read!
A fun, easy going read. Took me a while to get into the storyline but once I got hooked, that was it!
I really love dual narratives, so that was definitely an aspect of this book I enjoyed. However, there was also a lot I didn't love.
This book could have easily been at least 25-30 per cent shorter and been much more gripping and entertaining. It dragged quite a lot throughout the book, and did dampen my enjoyment of this story quite a bit. The pace picks up halfway through, which is maybe a little late.
There's a lot of unnecessary oversharing, I found.
The number of coincidences and almost meetings drove me insane. There were just too many for me to handle. I'm also not a fan of insta love at all, and despite Daniel and Nadia "never" meeting there was a strong insta love vibe.
This was sold as a modern day You've Got Mail, which is one of my favourite rom-coms. Unfortunately, there was a lot to like here but I didn't feel it totally hit the same mark.
‘One Stop’ by Laura Jane Williams is a very cute summer romance. It tells the story of a man named Daniel who has a crush on a woman named Nadia, a woman who is on his 7:30am train every morning but is too shy to approach. What results is Daniel putting a message for Nadia in the ‘Missed Connections’ section of a London newspaper. Nadia, intrigued, decides to see who this mysterious Train man is...
Though I did enjoy it as a whole, it honestly began to frustrate me to no end because of all the ridiculous number of coincidences as well as the constant missing each other aspect...I need there to be more of a plot to push forward the story. I agree with other criticisms that state that this could have easily been a third of a the amount shorter than it actually was as it felt like an unnecessary prolonging of the story. In saying that, the first half of the book was incredibly slow - too slow and it did result in me disengaging at times.
It was a good light read, and I would recommend it to those who are craving a light and fluffy romance book for their summer/winter.
First time reading a book by this author, made me laugh. A very good insight of a female mind. I would definitely read it again.
A well written story about how a woman develops a relationship from a brief encounter. It provides and insight into the female decision making process which is a fascinating experience in itself. The affair is initiated by the man who bumps into her on the tube. They are both attracted to each other but nothing runs smoothly although but the man’s actions are not all that convincing and the woman seems a bit of a loose cannon. However all ends well.
I really enjoyed this book and the tales inbetween the date they was due to meet again. I’m glad the book had a great ending. It was my 1st time reading by this author, I liked her style of writing, the book was funny, interesting and exciting
This is a feel good book, with many twists and turns. I loved the premise, and the book didn’t disappoint. A happy, hopeful tale of love and second chances.
This is a modern day love story of two lovely people Nadia and Daniel travel in the same 7.30am tube.
Nadia works in Artificial intelligence, where she designs robots that would work without human interference. She's recently dumped by her awful ex-boyfriend who she tries to take off her mind by following a new routine and trying really hard to keep it up! Her best friends Emma and Gaby encourage her as her greatest pillar of support.
Daniel, who's recently lost his father bumps upon a woman at the Borough market as he overhears her talking enthusiastically about Artificial intelligence and positivity for life. Suddenly he wants to know this woman who is so kind and clever. Luck prevails and he sees her again in his regular tube route and an offhand comment from his roommate prompts him to write an advert on the 'Missed Connections' segment of the daily newspaper where Londoners talk about their commuter crush!
Soon Nadia realises that the advert was written for her, as she is herself an ardent follower of 'Missed Connections' and starts to search for this mystery man on the train!
There's so much to love about this book. Every single character, Nadia's best friends Emma, Gaby and Daniel's pals, even his sweet office security guard, is written with such care and elegance. It's so uplifting for young people out there who try to build a life independently in a large city surrounded by strangers and a handful of good friends.
Friendships, love, dating, family, humor and romance all blended into one refreshing story from Laura Jane! Can't believe it's her first novel. I'm sure reading whatever she writes next. Thanks guys at Avon for my copy of the book. Go glad I bumped into #OurStop.
This is overall a cute read- easy to get through, accessible and fun, but also loaded a little heavily with tropes. From the overt feminism references (and I count myself as a radical feminist) and the overtly perfect make protagonist, I found myself skim reading parts just to skip past the countless instances of 'almost' before reaching a conclusion that was actually pleasant and fun.
This is a super cute romantic story of two people whose paths cross regularly and perhaps it’s fate! If you are looking for a quick, light read - this is it!
Our Stop is a cute romance involving Nadia and Daniel who seem to keep missing chances to meet each other properly. In the off chance Nadia reads the local area of the paper called “Missed Connections”, Daniel submits a message in hopes of getting a date. Fortunate for him, she’s obsessed with this section of the paper. They continue to message each other through the paper with Nadia referred to as “Coffee Spill Girl” and Daniel becomes known as “Train Guy”. Their story even develops a following on Twitter known as #ourstop. After Daniel leaves their intended date spot for a family emergency, Nadia feels stood up, wanting to forget about the missed chance. She meets Eddie at the bar while sulking and although he is a dream compared to her ex, she knows something is missing. Daniel dreams of a girl he can spend forever with and he thinks it’s her.
Daniel was the genuine charmer in the story for me. But, their friends and side stories made the build up a bit less interesting. Nonetheless, I did enjoy the book. It was light and fun.
Thanks to Netgalley and Avon Books for this ebook! The thoughts are mine alone.
