I have heard so much about this book that I had to read it and I wasn’t disappointed. With a modern edge to the story, it is the ultimate ‘will they won’t they?’ which keeps you hoping to the end. I read it in one day. It is a light, easy read with a touch of humour
Thanks to Netgalley for a copy of the book.
I have followed Laura Jane Williams online for years, so I was rather curious to hear she had penned her first fiction novel, and I soon pre-ordered Our Stop on Amazon. During a very lazy weekend, I dived in.
Nadia gets the 7.30 train every morning, if she manages to get out of bed on time. Daniel also gets on the 7.30 train, and over the course of many commutes into London, is captivated by Nadia. In a bid to catch her attention, he places a message in the Missed Connections section of the local newspaper, setting off a chain of events that will draw him and Nadia together over the course of the year.
As someone who used to love reading the Rush Hour Crush on the morning commute, Our Stop should have been the perfect book for me. However, there were a few things that niggled at me slightly. I thought the pacing was quite off, at times feeling rather slow and other things feeling rushed. Whilst I do enjoy a will they/wont they romanace, I found myself getting exasperated at the number of times Nadia and Daniel *almost* met, with some of the opportunities feeling too far fetched to root for. By the time I got to the end of the book, I didn't really care if they met or not, as I didn't feel any romance between t hem. There was also some lines in the book that I didn't particularly agree with; in a romance novel I'd rather not be reminded of our current political landscape. Lol.
Overall, Our Stop was an enjoyable easy read that will be read by several pool sides this summer. Whilst Our Stop wasn't the book for me, I will be reading more of Laura Jane's work in the future.
This was a beautiful captivating rom com that will keep you reading and smiling right until the last page. The dual perspectives in the book through the two main characters really help the story telling. The two main characters are like pieces on a chess board constantly moving around each other and you are constantly wishing for them to meet and for checkmate to ensue. This is the perfect escapist rom com which gives you a warm fuzzy feeling.
Nadia and Daniel are looking for love. They bother ride the same train to work. Daniel see Nadia, writes an advert in the paper anonymously seeking out Nadia. She in turn inadvertently (indirectly?) replies. The rest is room com heaven.
For me, it took a while to get into this book. It is told from first person view of both Nadia and Daniel. The first half of the book really takes a bit to get going. I really wished the story had been tightened up a bit. That being said the book is very fun and a perfect summer beach read.
If you enjoy British humor (and as an American I totally do) you will enjoy this book. Stick with it and see the coincidences unfold.
I received this book for review purposes.
This is my first book by Laura Jane Williams and I am not quite certain how I really feel about this book. I was drawn in my the cover first. I love illustrated covers and then I liked the synopsis but it is not enough to save the book. Plus who doesn't love a romcom?
Here is why;
It is told in 3rd person, not a huge fan of 3rd person but the way the ARC was formatted was really frustrating, and I hope the actual eBook and paperbacks aren't that way. The main characters inner monologue was funny yet annoying at the same time. I don't know how that is possible but it is. There are political matters thrown in here and there, I am all for feminism when it is done the right way. This was not the way.
It also took too long for the main characters to met. It is not a good sign when you start skimming a book because of it's content.
But that aside I enjoy the setup, even if it fell flat, I still enjoy the premise of the book, because it still had it's entertaining parts.
Overall, it was a fairly predictable plot with an expected happy ending, but sometimes that’s exactly what you need! It was a cute story and a quick read. It’s the story of how “Train Guy” and “Devastatingly Cute Blonde/Spilled Coffee Girl” continually miss meeting each other through various circumstances until the stars eventually align. They communicate through missed connections in the newspaper throughout much of the book, which was very cute.
This story was really cute. It was a sweet, lighthearted romance about near misses and almosts. I think one of my favorite things about this story is that it was all so believable. Laura Jane Williams did a fantastic job of characterization, really creating believable scenarios and characters that the reader could identify with. I enjoyed enjoyed both our male and female protagonist's insight and could definitely put myself in the 'what should I do next' conundrum that each of them are constantly facing.
Occasionally I felt like there was more introspection than necessary, but in general the story was a sweet, light, fun romance that I would totally read again!!
This took a little getting in to - with a bit of a slow start. There was a lot of focus on the characters lives and not enough really on them getting together, which meant it dragged a bit. It was definitely a romance story, but perhaps a little too heavy on the romance. However, it was a light read, even though there did appear to be some political overtones in there.
This was a fun, easy book to read. Our Stop is the epitome of a romance novel, you know what you're getting when you pick it up. Admittedly, half way though I was wondering how things were still dragging on, but it was a fun read.
We meet Nadia the late 20s girl who doesn't quite have it all together, as she's frantically rushing for her train. And there in the newspaper under Missed Connections (do these things still exist anymore), is a memo just to her. Train Guy because her summer fixation, and crossed paths and missed connections, mean that she spends the summer never finding out who this guy is.
I cringed at parts, some of it was too blatant, in your face, obvious, unrealistic. But it was funny. Some of it such a mirror reflection of a singletons life in London that you know that the person has been there, and done it. That your life is staring out of you from the page. Maybe that's why some parts were so difficult. There were some really powerful moments too, some important things that are often not discussed. I think if you pick this up not expectig a literary masterpiece, you could do a lot worse.
I really like this book! I think it's the perfect story similar to a korean drama and i LOVE kdramas!
I think the characters are really distinct and have their own voices. I was invested, I was enjoying everything and then we took a detour so long and I didn't like that. I think this book could have been 100 pages shorter, with a lot more filler in it than it needed in the middle.
This is indeed 'Serendipity' reborn. I loved that movie and so was in no doubt got engrossed with this prettily written novel. With an exciting start (Nadia's first day of new beginnings), the story turns out to be unputdownable halfway through. I am not a regular fan of dual narration, but here I grudgingly admit that the technique was perfect.
There are so many near misses to make you groan aloud in frustration and will also push you to see it to the end. And the meeting at last . . . ah! it was so worth it. The train guy was right in front of her the whole time. If that is not a lesson to get acquainted with our neighbours, I am not sure what is.
Altogether if you are looking for an easy to finish, exciting romance, just go for this blindly. Mind you, better start believing in destiny and true love because as the story of Nadia and Daniel teaches us, miracles do happen.
*I received an Arc in exchange for an honest review.*
I was looking forward to this book because I adore “sliding doors” and the blurb sounded similar.
It was an adorable story but it took way to long to go anywhere. The characters were okay but not particularly memorable. I really wanted to love this story but it was just not what I was hoping for.
Many thanks to netgalley and Avon Books for the ARC.
Unfortunately this just didnt grab my attention at all.
After reading the synopsis I was really excited to get the chance to read an early copy but it just didnt click. The first half of the book was really slow going which is where any interest I had then disappeared.
I also didnt like all the politic in it, I know with what's going on our country at this present time its relevant in it's own way but I found it irrelevant to the actual book!
I have literally gone back and forth 10 times on what I should rate this. It's shining moments were many and heartwarming, but the constant will-they-won't-they very nearly killed this book dead.
In case you're wondering, the two love interests don't actually meet and interact until the 82% mark. 82%!!! Do you have any idea how frustrating it is when these two, who are so perfect for each other, come so close to each other maybe 15 separate times in the book—deliberately, accidentally or by the sheer pull of fate—and not meet!? Nearly ripped my heart out. I'm all for a slow burn, but this took it to the extreme and had me dancing along a one star rating for a long time.
But once they did meet, it was just lovely. It's exactly why I requested this book in the first place, because the ending was precisely what I wanted. While I didn't enjoy the dragging it out over months and months, I loved the concept of a romance through the Missed Connections page of a newspaper. It really is one of those things that you wish would happen to you because it's just so romantic and mysterious. I feel this may have played out better as a movie versus a book, but in hindsight it was enjoyable.
Tiny sidenote to say it is so refreshing to have a male main character who doesn't see women as anything other than their own person. Women owe him nothing just because of the effort he puts in to court her. While Nadia's looks are a big factor for him, he also is interested in her because she is clever and strong and independent. He understands the concept of consent and acts as a worthy hero at one point in this book. Even just reading his thoughts on why he can't just go up to a woman and start talking to her is a delight.
"To the cute girl with coffee stains on her dress. I am the guy who always stands at the door. Drink sometime?"

This message in the missed connection column of a daily newspaper sparks the story of Nadia and Daniel. A slow build romance that had me hooked from the first to the last page, always having to read on to know if she reads the message and when their paths will eventually cross again on the 7.30 tube that Nadia is usually running late for.
.
Daniel is an all-round good guy, a rom-com hero and he doesn't give up on finding his one. As the chapters alternate between Daniel and Nadia, you get to know them both so well and you'll end up feeling like they're both your best friends. Rooting for fate to do it's work so they can finally meet and a happy ever after for the unlucky in love duo!

Our Stop is modern, funny, clever story and totally warms your heart. I found myself to be smiling along reading it but also be ready for all the tension! It's a perfect feel-good, chiclit read and with it out on 8 August and available on kindle now, you should add it to your summer tbr!

Thanks @avonbooks for the early copy and for letting me by the final stop of the blog tour! And huge well done to @laurajaneauthor on writing another awesome book! Would highly recommend her memoir Becoming 💕
I went into this book expecting a cute story and that's exactly what this is. The concept was certainly adorable and it'll really speak to your inner romantic.
I cannot say that it's the best book I've read, but I enjoyed my time reading it.
As a natural cynic, this book greatly appealed to me. However, I did feel the book did not hold up to my positive expectations- although I did enjoy it overall. The story is a good concept, the interaction between the two main characters Nadia and Daniel was believable. Perhaps the story was a bit too idealised, and the scenarios a bit too 'coincidental', but this is often typical of a rom-com read. I did get a few good laughs during the book and I would recommend it to someone looking for a summer read that is quick and lighthearted.
Color me charmed! This story was such a quick read for me once I started. I just couldn't put it down. The pacing was good, and steady. I found the characters to be deep and layered. The ways that Daniel and Nadia kept missing each other, just felt like a case of not-the-right-time. Things will happen when they do. Daniel's father has passed, and the way he grieves is so real, and shows all the mess and reality of it. It is authentic in so many ways.
Our Stop is a cute read all about missed connections. Daniel has put an ad in the Missed Connections section of the Tube party declaring his crush to the world and hopefully to Nadia....
And so begins a story as they write to another, agree to meet up and life just keeps getting in the way. Told from both Daniel's and Nadia perspectives we find out all about their lives, their hopes and dreams.
I actually preferred Daniel's story. It felt like he grew as a person not only in his romantic gestures but also in his confidence. I felt like he was very sure in his beliefs and time and time again he stood up for what he believed.
I do wish that they had met up sooner. Even if they hadn't realised it. because the build up was a little slow and for a time there were moments when it felt like it was all going to fizzle out. I also really wanted more from the secondary characters. Romeo was amazing but Gaby and Emma... They had their own side story but it didn't really feel part of the plot.
Overall this was a fun, cute read, that put a smile on face and had me giggling to myself. There was a lot of humour in this story which really added to the tale. If you're after a whirlwind romance this is the story for you.
A fabulous ‘will they, won’t they?’ full of laughs and longing. I loved Our Stop from the first page and it kept me guessing all the way.
