This book is a slow burn, but honestly, I think that really worked for the story. It’s character-driven and shifts between timelines, giving you a deep dive into the emotional struggles the characters face, especially around tough topics like eating disorders. I usually prefer faster-paced reads, but I found myself completely engrossed here. The characters are so well-developed that I felt real connections to them.
It’s not the thriller I initially expected, but that didn’t take away from my enjoyment. The story explores the complexity of human nature and kept me guessing with its twists. Overall, it wrapped up nicely, but I’d give it a solid 3 stars.
This is a fast paced edge of you seat read that will keep you guessing right up intill the last page this book kept me up all night I just couldn't put it down
I really enjoyed this read, it has plenty of suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat throughout. The characters were good, the plot was great and the style of writing was perfect. This is the first book that I have read by this author… looking forward to the next one out. I would recommend this to anyone who likes reading psychological thrillers.
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a honest review.
Dual timeline - 1986 Cambridge; present day.
1986 - three close friends at Cambridge, until Alex dies. What happened that day?
Present day - Karen is convinced she saw a picture of Alex, alive and well. Though they haven't been in touch, Karen reaches out to Misty.
Dripping with confusion and desperation.
A great novel that explores a number of relationships and the feelings that people internalise. Kept me hooked throughout. Thanks for the opportunity to read
A really good read that kept my interest throughout. It’s not a fast paced read but I think that suited the story.
Alex, Karen, and Misty were inseparable in teens, but when Alex died suddenly Karen and Misty moved on from each other. Decades later when Karen sees Alex on the news she knows she has to find out what really happened to Alex, even if it costs her everything.
The Guilty Friend by Joanne Sefton is a slow burner character driven book. Told in alternate timelines it's a well plotted emotional book dealing with eating disorders and some twists and turns to make it an interesting read.
I would like to thank Avon Books UK , One More Chapter & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.
This is the first book by this author, and she starts her career with a bang. This book deals with the friendship between three women until one dies. The book was a slow and steady read, but worth the effort as you get swept along for the ride. Recommended.
Amazing debut! A story about university friends and when one of them dies, things took a dark & troubling turn.
I personally found this quite a slow burn book. And as someone who enjoys faster paced book, this one kept me engrossed. There's so much details in the characters that you're able to form emotions and attachments to them.
This isn't a thriller as I was expecting but it was still an enjoyable read especially with the dark subjects the book has brought up. People aren't just black & white and what they would do in certain situations can surprise you.
Amazing book, summed up to an amazing ending.
Joanne's brain has quite a unique way of working. Although this isn't a typical psychological thriller it still has the hallmarks of one, I enjoy books that you follow each character's view point, seeing everything from all angles. The twists and turns to find out answers, to get closure on something that happened 30 years before at University. All the while missing something important happening in the here and now. Some people have found this a bit slow at the start but well worth persevering.
Thank you to Netgalley and HarperCollins for my ARC ebook.
A fanastic read, with lots of twists and turns. Joanne Sefton is quickly turning into one of my favourite authors and this one didn't disappoint. Lots of secrets uncovered and an interesting set of characters and plot.
I was able to read this book thanks to NetGalley. I’m a huge fan of thrillers snd I enjoyed this one. It was a quick and entertaining read for me and I will definitely be on the lookout for more books by this author in the future. Thanks again to NetGalley for the chance to read and review this book.
I love a good private school book and this had an element of that. I loved the characters and how they acted towards each other after what happened to the other friend. I will say it was a touch slow, but oh my gosh the ending was so good!! I’m a sucker for a good ending and this one definitely had that. I really liked this book and look forward to seeing more from this author.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.
After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.
I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.
Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.

A tale of 3 women who were at uni together. One of them dies......or does she? I absolutely lived this. Sat up to 3am reading it! A fat 5/5 and I look forward to reading more by this talented author.
I enjoyed this book, I really liked the writing style it kept my interet throughout. I enjoyed the characters a lot and found them to be believable and relatable. I always like the psychological thrillers when there are also mental illnesses involved.
Really good story. About three friends, two reconnect after many, many years and one is dead. Or so they think. More of a story about anorexia, which I didn't really connect with (thankfully) but I still enjoyed it nonetheless! Will definitely check out more from this author!
A huge Thank You to The author, The publisher and Netgalley for providing the e-arc in exchange for a unbiased review of these works.
An engaing blurb, good characters and a story that kept me hooked
This book wasn’t for me . I struggled to finish it and it couldn’t keep my interest . The idea of the storyline did interest me however for me the writing and the storyline didn’t flow.
Really enjoyable read. Good characters and a Good story. Well worth a read. Think others will enjoy.
