The Victim is the second novel in the DI Edina "Ed" Ogborne series, and I am pleased I gave this series another chance, after being rather deflated by the opening instalment, The Taken Girls, as it was much more compelling and the tension built a lot easier and more naturally than in TTG. It's an exciting, compulsive police procedural with enough twists and turns to satisfy regular readers of this genre, and some genuinely wicked, evil characters.
When Ogborne and her team are called in to investigate the murder of a young woman in her own home they are well and truly dumbfounded. How could this be when there is no sign of an intruder or any evidence to point them in the right direction? When another crime with an almost identical modus operandi comes to their attention they are intrigued to discover that there are inconsistencies in the reported accounts. It is then that the police know they will have to graft to separate the lies, duplicity and deception from the truth to uncover the brutal perpetrator and stop more lives being lost.
Although part of a series this works perfectly well as a standalone and is a fast-paced read with a cast who are well and truly morally bankrupt. You'd liked to think this type of thing is merely part of the fictional universe, but I reckon this occurs much more than we would like to imagine in real life, especially given the now ubiquitous nature of internet dating. Chilling is definitely the most fitting terminology. However, I felt the conclusion/denouement was anti-climactic and rather rushed. Many thanks to Avon for an ARC.
This is a great read.
I’ve not read the first book in this series and don’t think this had an effect on my enjoyment of this book. A young woman is found dead in her bedroom, and the Police decide it was a suspicious death.
There’s evidence of the victim being tied to the bed but with no sign of a break in, they’re confused.
Alongside this story, a woman is shocked to find a man in her flat when she returns from work and when he ties her to the bed she becomes very worried.
Gina is frightened for her life as this man says he wants to ‘spend time with her’.
As with other reviews I’ve seen, I don’t want to say any more as it would spoil it for you.
The book is full of twists and turns and will have you questioning who really is the victim.
Thanks to Avon Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
An entertaining and engrossing book that kept me hooked till the last page.
It's well written, the cast of characters is well developed and interesting, the plot is fast paced.
The mystery is very good, full of twists and turns, and I loved it.
It's the first book I read by this author and it will not surely be the last.
Highly recommended!
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
I really enjoyed the first book in this series The Taken Girls and was an easy five stars. Unfortunately it cannot be said of this read. It did not live up to the bluŕb. It started off well and then it definitely lost its way. A very confusing read, hated the main character and was far from likeable and believable and frankly was bloody annoying. Saying that I am sure that other readers of this genre will enjoy it more. Unfortunately not for me. Almost three stars.
I would like to thank the author, Avon Books UK and Netgalley for the ARC in return for giving an honest.
The Victim by GD Sanders is the second book in the DI Edina Ogbourne series. I didn't know this when I picked it up to read but it read fine as a stand alone. This book was certainly not what I was expecting, a story that twist and turns so fast and so abruptly that you question everything that you bought you knew. Terrible characters who have no morals or thoughts for anybody else but in this story it works. I read this book quickly, just needing to find out.
The story is a tough one to describe without giving anything away. The body of a woman is found dead in her bedroom, with no sign of a break in and no evidence left behind. Canterbury Police are baffled. Then another case comes to the attention of DI Edina and she starts to think that they are connected. But how?
A very different police procedural that will have you hooked. Thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased
The Victim is the second book in the DI Edina "Ed" Ogborne series by G D Sanders and whilst it is a decent police procedural with many twists and turns it us let down a bit by a forced and definitely rushed ending which left me slightly disappointed.
Other than the ending the rest of the story was good and will leave you doubting what you think you know
Will I read the next book in the series? Probably yes
3.5⭐️ rounded up to 4
DI Edina Ogborne #2
A young woman is found dead in her bedroom, the Canterbury police are baffled. There's no sign of a break-in or any evidence either. But with DI Edina Ogborne on the case it won't be long until she has the case cleared. That is until another brutal case comes to light. Are the cases connectedness? The cases seem to be clear cut, but are they?
DI Edina (Ed) Ogbourne and her team are back. I enjoyed this book slightly more than I did the first book in this series called " The Taken Girls", but I do think they will go from strength to strength as the series and characters develop. There's not a lot I can say about this book as I would give away too many spoilers. A good police procedural series.
I would like to thank NetGalley, Avon Books UK and the author G. D. Saunders for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A modern day story based on what can happen with internet dating sites. Where nobody seems to be what they are really. Quite a chilling story, probably happens quite often in real life.
What a book. I was hooked just from the cover and description. Thankfully I was not disappointed. This is a fast paced read. Easy to read. Your on the edge of your seat wondering which way it’s heading. Fantastic read
Having read and enjoyed a book called 'The Taken Girls' which featured a group of detectives led by DI Edina Ogborne, I was keen to read this novel.
I believe it is the second in the series. The story is based in and around Canterbury in Kent.
As with the first book, the characters are carefully crafted. I continue to like the detective team centred around Edina, Ed, Ogborne.
When only about a third of the way through the book, it seemed as though the conclusions about perpetrator were becoming apparent. However, surely nothing could be that clear
I won't say any more for fear of spoiling the story. Suffice to say that the book develops in an interesting way and builds to a tense conclusion. Complete with a tense courtroom showdown.
As police procedural crime thrillers go this rates quite highly.
I will look out for the next instalment on the basis of these first two novels.
I give my thanks to Netgalley and Avon Books for a copy in exchange for this review.
I really enjoyed this book. It was the first book that I had read by this author but it certainly won’t be the last
A man who believes that if he could just spend time with a woman, she would come to love him. So he decides to keep one, in her own home, for a couple of weeks and make it happen. What could possibly go wrong!
A good book and an enjoyable read.
This was so unexpected. A man stalks his prey, and when the time is right he strikes. When the police are put on the scent of a killer will they catch him in time? or will there be more victims? This book was full of twists and turns and so many surprises.. Thank you NetGalley.
I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.
This was a roller coaster ride it was fast paced and had you guessing what going to happen.
DI Ogborne and her team are call upon when a young women is murdered in her home while there are few leads to follow a second attack happens.
As it seems both crimes are connecting DI Ogborne and her team start to wonder if these crimes are connected or someone want them believe they are.
A great police procedural that can easily be seen on screen.
The Victim was an interesting read. I had a hard time getting through the first few chapters. I found the chapters with the victim and her assailant very wordy and forced. The plot finally picked up after about a third of the way in. It was hard at times to keep my interest in the storyline, it seemed so scattered. My mind would wander. Not a great read but not terrible either.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the opportunity to preview this book.

An absolute rollercoaster read , when the criminal becomes the victim and the tables are turned just who do you feel sympathise with ........ highly recommended read
The Victim by G.D. Sanders is the second novel centred on DI Edina Ogborne but, for me, it is completely successful as a stand alone story. I was drawn in immediately, and remained fully engaged throughout.
When a young woman is found murdered in her home, there are very few leads for DI Ogborne and her team to follow. When a second attack is reported soon after, it is suspected that the two incidents must somehow be linked. But when two very differing accounts of the second attack come to light, it is up to Ed and her team to sift through the lies and deceptions to uncover the true identity of the perpetrator.
This is a fast-paced read that will have you constantly questioning and revising everything you think you know.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for this ARC.
Wow. A really great and fast paced thriller. Quite a dark story but it threw so mant twists and turns I could never have guessed the killer. A great read for murder/police procedures fans.
