would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this amazing book
what a book what an author..this book covers some pretty horrendous topics of drug taking, suicide, disappearances, bullying at schools
the storyline though hard hitting and at times sad to read is an phenomenal book that grips you to the very end and that is why this author is fast becoming one of my all time favourites...
not wanting to give to much away but after that first chapter you are hooked and the book keeps you hooked so much that you want to see how it ends...brilliant
Another thrilling instalment from Rachel Lynch, dealing with a suicide, a missing teen, & following Kelly's personal life in dealing with her own life/family problems. Book four was a more insight look in to Kelly as a human first and foremost and had me really connecting with her.
As gripping as ever, from start to finish, Kelly will always be an idol to me.
Book four of the series, & a great installment. Kelly finds herself looking for a missing teen, trying to understand why another girl suddenly committed suicide, & dealing with personal family problems. I think this entry humanized Kelly a little more and made me like her better. I think maybe because she wasn’t fighting with her sister, who I can’t stand, was a relief. The mystery was solid, too. This one is probably my favorite so far.
*Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
A Great Thriller from a talented author:
The character of Kelly Porter is one of the best of all fictional British Detectives and in "Bitter Edge", the fourth novel in the DI Kelly Porter series, the reader enjoys Rachel Lynch writing at her very best.
The thriller commences with an apparent suicide: one which makes no sense to Kelly Porter. The post mortem result is suicide nonetheless. The details are absolutely gruesome!
The suicide victim attended Derwent Academy and it is not long before Kelly Porter is to find the school the centre of several investigations. Staff and pupils. Tony Blackman, a teacher at the school, is suspended whilst sexual allegations are investigated. Is there a connection between all these investigations? Or is it just coincidence.
Be prepared for twists and turns as Rachel Lynch weaves an exceptional thriller which kept me guessing right to the end. The novel features the appearance of an old enemy of Kelly Porter which provides even more suspense.
A great thriller by a great writer: "Bitter Edge" is one of those must read 2019 thrillers. I thoroughly enjoyed the book.
A very complicated case for DI Kelly Porter
A young teenager, Jenna Fraser, who should have her whole life ahead of her, throws herself off Walla Crag, Her suicide has a devastating impact on the recovery team, the pathologist, but mainly, DI Kelly Porter. She discovers that this is not the first suicide of a pupil attending The Derwent Academy.
Tony Blackman, a teacher at the same school, has been accused of having groped a student, Sadie Rawlinson. The police have found child pornography on his computer. Most disturbing, however, was the photo of Dale Prentice, a two-year-old in foster care since being left outside a pub as a baby. Why would the details of this child be on Tony Blackman’s computer?
When Faith Shaw goes missing, DI Kelly Porter and her team must prove that the suicide of Jenna Fraser and the other teenagers are somehow linked with her disappearance, leaving the celebration of Christmas getting only cursory attention.
What an excellent book! Rachel Lynch creates characters which are not only plausible but easy to identify with, and the storyline flows with ease as each bit of the various threads start coming together to make one of the best police procedures I’ve read for a long time.

Breakaway Reviewers received a copy of the book to review.
A fan of the series but this book was hard to finish. The start of the book pulled me in but guessed the end pretty soon in.
DI Kelly Porter starts to investigate when Faith Shaw goes missing from the local fair, another young girl commits suicide and a toddler is kidnapped. All seemingly separate incidents but very quickly they all start to link together.
A hard tale of teenage bullying, drugs and manipulation and can be a bit haphazard at times as it switches between the different cases. The story is interspersed with Kelly's personal life and struggles and how she has to juggle between home and her career.
A great read and thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity of reading it - will be looking for the other DI Porter books.
I love a crime thriller & this didn’t disappoint. DI Kelly Porter is a great character & I would certainly read more books with her as the heroine. There was depth to the story with an interesting background as well as a nice little twist in the tale. Highly recommended for fans of the genre.
DI Kelly Porter and the team are investigating the suspicious death of a teenager and then the disappearance of another local teenager. What is causing the teens to be driven to drugs and deception. Kelly has her hands full and her changing relationship with Ted and her mum’s health.
This was my favourite Kelly Porter book. It was very emotional and I really enjoyed it. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
DCI Porter is a very savvy and quick thinking detective. When she looks into cases of young teenagers committing suicide and getting hooked on Class A drugs, she’s determined to find the culprits and make them pay.
As well as being determined to solve these crimes against the young and innocent, Kelly Porter has her own life to sort out. Her mother is terminally ill and her father - well, therein lies another story for her to come to terms with.
This is past paced with twists, turns and plots all the way through. It really reflects on the pressure out young people are under today to feel accepted and temptation is out there at every turn.
Great read. Loved it.
Really enjoyed this book in the series. I havent read all of the past books but this did not detract from my enjoyment of this one although now I would like to go back and read the others! It was very easy to read and to follow and I would recommend.
This is a very well written detective novel. I sometimes find this genre dull and stereotypical but not this writing. I was kept engaged throughout and could imagine myself present (it helps that I can picture the setting where I had many a childhood holiday). The characters and very believable and the consistency of narrative throughout is admirable. Thanks you for the opportunity to read this, I will be looking up others in the series and more by the same author.
Not really my type of book but I thought it would be good to try a different genre but unfortunately it wasn't my type of story and I struggled to read it.
Received this book as an ARC, and I have never read this author before, but it is very promising and enjoyed it very much. Slightly different to the usual murders as all is not what it seems, and a lot of school bullying and sadly still going on in real life today. .I take it it was a follow on but as I have not read any others and it didn't make that much different, only perhaps the same people and area. The author paints a good picture of the Lake District in winter, and you can visualize the difference from summer to winter in which this story was told. Will look out for this author again, the novel flowed well the characters were well defined and on the whole a very pleasant read.
I have loved every DI Kelly Porter book and this was no exception. From the characters (Kelly of course being my favourite!) To the fresh, interesting fast paced style of writing this series of books is a must. Look forward to the next!
Another really good book in the series (although it can be quite easily read as a standalone). No need to get to know the main characters as you are familiar with them, so you can concentrate on the really good storylines in this book.
Started off OK but then failed to hold my interest. Paled by comparison with the Resnick novels which I've recently finished.
This is number 4 in the DI Kelly Porter series and I really enjoyed it so much more I want to read all the books in the series so I will be doing that .
Although its Book 4 you don't need to read the others to follow this plot and story line I didn't even realise it was book 4 until I look for other books by Rachel Lynch
The main character DI Porter is very likeable and she cares when she realises there have been more than one teenage suicides in the small lake district town she goes all out to solve the case I enjoyed the plot
Her family life and relationship with Johnny make her very real
This is the second book in this series I’ve read and the second I’ve loved. Brilliant gripping police procedural.
This is the 4th book in the DI Kelly Porter series by author Rachel Lynch.
The death of a teenage girl is seen to be a tragic suicide when she it appears she has thrown herself off a cliff. Yet with no apparent reason for doubt, Kelly Porter is still asking why and seeks answers from the girls school. A sinister tale unfolds which will lead Kelly back to an old adversary who is determined to take back what is rightfully his at any cost.
This series has an excellent mix of the actual crime plot and Kelly's own personal life. In this book, we see the growing bond with boyfriend Jonny and her relatively new father daughter relationship with Ted. Added to this we have the on-going conflict with her sister and her heartbreak with her terminally ill.
This is a fabulous series and works so well as a series, well paced, excellent characters and interesting plots.
I would like to thank Net Galley and Canelo for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
