Less mystery, more general fiction. I didn't love this book, but didn't hate it either. I guess I wanted more thriller aspects to it, which weren't there. A lot was jam packed into the story, which was unappealing to me.
I found this book very wordy. I kept going back to reread parts because I felt like I was missing important points. The writing style was not my preferred type of writing but the story line was good.
Deep story with many emotions misunderstood, ever changing and some of the most honest writing I've come to expect with Richards.
This book has a lot of twist and turns. I never would have guessed the ending and I was sorry when the book was done. It starts a little slow but then picks up when Wendy the older sister calls Ryan to take care of her girls while she trying to find out who set her up. That's her story and she sticks to it though the whole story. Ryan has always felt like she is second best in her parents eyes but she is the one to bring the family back from the edge. She has a podcast that looks into cold cases and she has help to look for things everyday people can not. There is a little much about the girls father and his top secret job on a sub. Having married into the Navy that all did not make sense to The boyfriend left behind was a good storyline and I was glad to see them make up and help each other. I cant wait to read another book by Emile Richards.

This was more mainline fiction than mystery. Was a little wordy at times. This is mostly about the relationship between the sisters.
It was my first time reading anything by Emilie Richards so I didn’t know what to expect. I anticipated mystery, but the plot turned out to be more about family. I would prefer this book if it wasn’t as wordy and lengthy.
I enjoyed this book. Liked the writing style & was a bit different to what I usually go for. I would recommend this book.
I finished this book last night. Loved the characters in this one. They were so well fleshed out they were almost real. The plot was intriguing. What happened at the end really surprised me and that's always good! I will be looking for more books by Emilie Richards!
I'm not completely sure how I feel about this book. I liked it, didn't love it, didn't hate it. The writing is very wordy and I found myself skimming paragraphs to get through all the details. I generally like detailed writing, but this was too much of a good thing. Overall, a decent read.
Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.
Ryan Rose Gracey, an amateur sleuth with a podcast that tracks down crime, is pulled into a web of mystery and deceit when her sister suddenly and mysteriously disappears and she’s called on to take care of her nieces. She eventually figures out that something just doesn’t sound right about her sister’s frantic call telling her she’s being framed for murder.
This is a pleasant book, not excellent, not terrible. The good guys, and there are a lot of them, including a dog, are likable. But there’s just too much thrown into this long, slowly unraveling tale to result in high marks from me.

I loved, loved, loved this book. It's part mystery, part family story and completely unputdownable. Ryan Grace is running a podcast about cold cases when she receives a mysterious phone call from her much older sister Wendy who is running away from a murder investigation. Wendy refuses to tell Ryan anything about her situation, but asks her to go to her parents home where her two daughters are staying and to take care of them while her father recovers from heart surgery. Ryan has had little to do with the girls so when Ryan gets there the two girls are unresponsive to her, but, as time goes by, they begin to open up and develop a relationship. With the help of her podcast staff Ryan begins to figure out what Wendy is running from and to try to help. She is also able to reconnect with Teo, her former boyfriend who lost his leg while saving Ryan's life. This mixture of family and mystery will draw you in from the very beginning and hold your interest all the way through. Emilie Richards has crafted another winner.

The story is slow to build, and it really is more about the relationship between the sisters than the actual murder. Good if you’re in the mood for straight up women’s fiction, not so much if you’re looking for suspense
I spent the first part of this novel frustrated by the actions of all of the main characters, but I am glad I kept reading as I really enjoyed the original twists at the end.
Much too wordy. Too similar to other books of this genre. Certain patrons will love it. It just wasn’t a book I enjoyed.
Sisters Wendy and Ryan are as different as two women can be, they have been that way all their lives. Wendy has the perfect family with two children while Ryan is alone. But when Wendy is afraid she will be falsely accused of murder, Ryan is the one she calls. Ryan drops everything to care for her niece, allowing her sister time to “disappear “. Using the skills that have made he. Successful podcaster, Ryan begins poking around and starts to wonder if her perfect sister is s liar……or worse
