Will the summer festival continue?
One Feta in the Grave by Tina Kashian is my first in the Kebab Kitchen Mystery series, and I have to say that it was pretty good. Ms. Kashian did a superb job, and I love the dynamics between the main character Lucy and her family.
Sleuth:
Our sleuth is Lucy Berberian who is a first-generation American within her family that is multilingual. I fell in love with how different this sleuth is and is set in Jersey made me smile. Lucy is known in her small coastal town in Jersey for solving mysteries so when she finds Mr. Kincaid everyone automatically thinks she is on the case in solving it. Which she is.
What I like about her is that she is my first sleuth that is a lawyer but is trying to make her parents happy by working in the restaurant. I like that she cares for her family even if everyone knows that she isn’t the most fabulous cook. The way that she has two love interests that aren’t cops because the cop is her best friend’s husband. The last thing that I like about her is that she is pretty great at sleuthing. The one thing that I didn’t like about her is that she didn’t get why one of her love interests was jealous of the other who is just a friend.
The Victim:
The victim is Archie Kincaid but to call him a victim is a big step. The reason is he was a total jerk to everyone. He lived like he was a bachelor when that was far from the truth and that he spurned a whole lot of people. Okay, so the only one that he did let known was a guy named Harold. Anyways let’s just say Lucy and the cops had a lot of fun trying to sort through all the red herrings to get to the real killer. Especially through everything else that was brought to light.
Five Star
One Feta in the Grave by Tina Kashian is a great cozy mystery read, and I enjoyed it especially trying to figure out who killed Archie and what their motives where. I am giving this book a five-star review, and I am recommending it to all cozy mystery fans.

This was a great cozy mystery and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Although this is the third book in the series, it can be read just fine as a stand alone. I found the characters to be engaging and likeable and I loved all the food descriptions. Many of them had my mouth watering! I would definitely recommend this series to fans of cozy mysteries and I look forward to reading more books in the series.
Lucy Berberian has returned home to help run the family restaurant. When Lucy is roped into helping best friend Katie judge a sand castle contest things start to go a little crazy. Katie is seen having a disagreement with one of the judges, Archie, when she dismisses him as a judge since his nephew is entered in the contest. Later when Archie if found dead Katie becomes one of the suspects so Lucy feels she has to help clear her friends name.
This is the third book in the series but my first. I had no problem following the storyline so this book can definitely be enjoyed as a stand-alone mystery. The characters are fun and realistic. The setting of a beach festival was a great addition to making this a fun storyline and adding to the haste Lucy feels about solving the murder quickly. The mystery was well paced with several twists and turns along the way. For cozy fans that love to try out recipes your in luck, this book has a few recipes included at the end.
I voluntarily agreed to read a copy of this book supplied by Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own and in no way have been influenced.

Review:
The writing style flowed smoothly and the book is an easy enjoyable read. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and through much of the book I felt like I was right there in The Kebab Kitchen, smelling all of the delicious aromas and getting hungrier by the minute.
The characters are well rounded, well developed and three dimensional. I really like the emphasis on family in this series, it is heartwarming. I am also happy that it appears that Lucy has made a decision concerning her love interest, so I think the love triangle is over.
The mystery was well plotted and carried on well throughout the book. There were enough suspects to consider and clues to sift through that my interest was held throughout the entire book. Thrown in some red herrings and it was not an easy one to solve. I did not figure it out until the reveal at the end, but that is okay.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. I have read all three of the books in this series and they are all great.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher, Kensington Books, and NetGalley, which I greatly appreciate.
If you enjoy Mediterranean food (like I do) and like a good mystery, then this is a series you will want to read. From the characters to the tantalizing dishes, everything falls into place and makes this a fantastic read.
This is the third installment in this series and I have enjoyed watching the characters develop, the family dynamics, and the mysteries being hidden in plain sight. Well, maybe not quite in plain sight because I have yet to figure out the killer. There are twists and turns that I didn’t expect which kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what could possibly happen next.
I enjoy the potential love triangle between Lucy, Azad, and Michael. Granted, Lucy claims that Michael is just a friend but I think if he had his way they could be more.
This series continues to improve so we give it 5 paws up and perhaps one day I’ll try one of the delicious recipes that tease us in the book.
Lucy Berberian, a successful Philadelphia attorney, has returned to Ocean Crest, New Jersey, to claim a managerial position with her family's Mediterranean restaurant, Kebab Kitchen. Ocean Crest is gearing up for the annual beach festival. Lucy has organized the food and wine event involving her family's restaurant. Lucy's best childhood buddy Katie is helping with judging duties of the sand sculpture content and confronts a problem with Archie Kincaid, owner of one of the gift shops, when he allows his nephew to enter the competition against the rules.
When Lucy takes a break with a walk on the beach, she discovers Archie's body under the boardwalk. Archie was fairly new to the New Jersey shore village and had managed to alienate a number of neighboring merchants. Because Katie was observed in a second altercation with Archie, suspicions immediately begin with her. Officer Bill Watson, Katie's hubby, cannot be on the case and privately requests that Lucy keep her eyes and ears open to any clues that might help with the investigation.
All the Greek dishes had me mystified, fascinated, and interested in a taste session, as I do enjoy Mediterranean cuisine. Although this was the third in the series, I feel it could function as a standalone. The well-plotted book takes a while to look at each clue. I found Michael engaging (he rides a Harley), but didn't get into the triangle thing with him, Lucy and Azad. (She definitely has the hots for him. I found him annoying.) I enjoyed Katie (very down to earth), the gypsy, and the stray kitty, Gadoo. The mystery itself took a back seat to the culture and the food, and the ease into the antagonist was not wholly unexpected and did make the most sense.
I was given this ebook download by the publisher and NetGalley and appreciated the opportunity to read and review for this book tour. Recommended for those who enjoy an easy, clean cozy mystery. 3.5/5
Murder comes back to the Jersey shore in this third installment of the Kabob Kitchen Mysteries.
I so enjoyed the first two books in this series, I could only hope to enjoy ONE FETA IN THE GRAVE half as much. Well, it turned out to be twice as much! I should have known, because author Tina Kashian has a way of pulling me into her stories that keeps my butt firmly planted in my seat as I absorb page after page.
I adore the characters in this series. I’ve enjoyed watching them and their relationships grow as the author fleshes them out. The feel of family and friendship rings true to me. There is a warmth I feel when reading them that makes me smile every time.
As for the mystery in, ONE FETA IN THE GRAVE, it was top notch! There were plenty of suspects to keep me twisted like a boardwalk funnel cake in my guessing. When I finally had it figured out and was giving myself a pat on the back for being brilliant (that never lasts long), I read the reveal. What a slap to the forehead that was. I was way off! LOL Well, played Ms. Kashian.
Fans of this series are going to love this addition. Culinary mystery fans, you’ll delight in the delicious recipes included. And fans of mysteries in general, you’re going to want to add ONE FETA IN THE GRAVE to your reading list!
Lucy went to school to be an attorney, but decides to come back to her NJ shore hometown to manage her parents' restaurant, the Kebab Kitchen. She helps to arrange a summer festival showcasing local businesses, but when a shop owner is murdered, the festival is called off and many tourists leave. Lucy decides to investigate, since the lead detective is considering her friend Katie as a suspect. Small town friendly people (despite the murder), a budding romance with the handsome chef, and a well-written mystery (with recipes) make this a cozy mystery worth reading. It's refreshing to see a Jersey shore town depicted as a pleasant place.
ONE FETA IN THE GRAVE by Tina Kashian
The Third Kebab Kitchen Mystery
It's beach festival week for the Jersey Shore town of Ocean Crest and Lucy Berberian and her best friend, Katie, are working to make it a success. With a myriad of entertainments including a sand sculpture contest and wine and food tasting event, visitors and residents alike have plenty of activities to choose from and enjoy. Tempers flare with the heat however, as trouble making newcomer Archie Kincaid gets into public arguments not only with his business rival, but Katie as well. When Lucy finds Archie's body under the boardwalk, she realizes she has more on her plate than baba ganoush and moussaka. With Detective Clemmons eyeing Katie as a prime suspect, Lucy begins to subtly search for the real killer, all while managing the Kebab Kitchen and dealing with her developing relationship with her hunky chef.
A compelling mystery, good food, loyalty, and a little romance are the key components to a Kebab Kitchen Mystery and ONE FETA IN THE GRAVE has them in spades. I love, not only the developing relationship between Lucy and Azad, but Lucy's friendship with Michael...and smirk at how the two males deal with it. Angela never fails to make me giggle, especially when it comes to her infatuation with Cooking Kurt, the celebrity chef. It's these characters, their foibles as well as their goodness, that pulls me in and makes me want to spend time with them.
I enjoyed the mystery, though I shook my head at one of Lucy's schemes to get evidence. Still, there were plenty of suspects, lots of red herrings, and a fantastic chase scene. All in all ONE FETA IN THE GRAVE is great fun keeping me not only entertained, but filled with happiness from this big happy Kebab Kitchen family.
Recipes Included.
I loved this cozy mystery. Well written plot and well developed characters. Mystery fans will not want to miss this book. I received an arc from Netgalley and this is my unbiased review.
This is a well written cozy, with an OK plot and very good characters. The story is not very original, and there a too many repetitions, but it's good entertainment.
This is the 3rd installment in the series and once again Lucy and her friend Katie are in the middle of another murder investigation. This time around Lucy and Katie are working on the Ocean Crest Summer Festival one of the last big events before the tourists all leave the area. Lucy as manager of the Kebab Kitchen is in charge of the food stations and Katie in her role working in city hall is in charge of the sand castle contest. As Lucy and Katie are judging the sand sculptures they encounter a heated argument between two of the towns businessmen. Harold is yelling that Archie should be disqualified as a judge since his nephew Neil has entered the contest. Katie and Lucy go to break things up and unfortunately Katie must disqualify Archie because the rules state no family members can be involved. Archie starts yelling at Katie. Next Archie is screaming at Katie because a mercantile license was denied and Katie is the city clerk that gave him the news. Fresh off the argument on the beach he is really nasty and says what are you going to do “shoot me with your husband’s gun”. The next day the festival begins with a bang and Lucy takes a break to walk on the beach, which unfortunately leads her to find Archie’s dead body under the boardwalk. Lucy jumps into the investigation as Katie becomes a suspect. This was a very entertaining story with a great plot and I love how the whole thing came together at the end. I am really enjoying this series and look forward to the next installment.
This is the third in the "Cozy Kebab Kitchen mystery series.' I have read the entire series and highly recommend each book in the series. This is a enjoyable series of a appealing coastal setting with likable charcters and always a enjoyable sleuth to solve.
Lucy Berberian has taken over the family business of running their Mediterranean restaurant on the Jersey shore. The Kebab Kitchen is a hit and Lucy has decided she will have a tent at the local beach festival When she takes a break to walk along the shore she finds a dead body of a local businessman. Unfortunately her good friend Katie was the last person to be seen with him and they were arguing. In order to prevent her friend from being suspect number one Lucy takes on the task of investigating on her own. Lucy is soon deep in the investigation as well as trying to keep her business running .
This was a well crafted sleuth and a enjoyable read. i love the descriptions of the Jersey shore and the supporting charcters. Lucy is a able sleuth and good at solving crimes. I recommend this series. Thank you for the ARC. My personal opinion is my own.
OH MY WORD!! This is a brilliant edition to the Kebab Kitchen series, 6 stars out of 5 rating *grin*
Ocean Crest has a last chance to salt some money away from the tourists with a beach festival, this year Lucy is in charge of setting up for food and drink tasting afternoon into evening, but the day before she agrees to be a judge of the sand sculpture competition, this IS a competition with a rather nice $5k prize and so Lucy's friend Katie is determined there will be no problems, unfortunately she isn't lucky with that as another two judges get into a heated argument with the outcome being that one of them has broken the judging rules and has to be removed. Katie ends up in another argument with the ousted judge later on over a business licence, none of which would be bad news, only the argumentative businessman ends up dead, with Katie looking like the murderer. With Katie's husband Ben off the case and the Detective not really looking at anyone else (or so Lucy thinks) she starts to investigate, taking time out to go out on a date, a proper date with Azad, her ex (now apparently current again) boyfriend, oh and as well as this she needs to run the restaurant, so multi-tasking has become her daily routine, helped by some friends and, surprisingly, the local fortune teller!
One Feta in the Grave is the third book in the Kebab Kitchen Mystery series! We meet up again with Lucy Berberian, and she’s participating in the last festival before summer ends. One of her jobs is to judge the sandcastle competition, but when one of the other judges, Archie, is forced to step down, he gets into a major fight with Lucy’s bestie, Katie. And when Archie is fatally shot, Katie is the prime suspect, and Lucy kicks it into high-gear and searches for the true murder.
The third times the charm! I loved this addition to the series! It was fun and exciting. The characters are still charmingly entertaining and interesting, and I liked how all of them have grown a bit, especially Lucy. We see her growing as a person as well as finding her true self.
The mystery itself was really captivating and instantly grabbed my attention until the very end, which left me very satisfied! The pacing was great, and cliffhangers kept me going.
Overall, a great addition to an awesome series! I can’t wait for the next one.
One Feta in the Grave by Tina Kashian takes us back to Ocean Crest, New Jersey on a hot August day. Lucy Berberian is the manager of her family’s Mediterranean restaurant, Kebab Kitchen. It is the opening day of a weeklong beach festival which begins with the sand sculpture contest. Unfortunately, Archie Kincaid, owner of Seaside Gifts, is not playing by the rules and Katie Watson must ask him to step down from his judging duties. Lucy is the organizer for the food and wine event in which Kebab Kitchen has a tent with mouthwatering delicacies from their head chef, Azad Zakarian. Lucy decides to cool off in the afternoon with a walk on the beach where she discovers Archie shot dead under the boardwalk. Detective Calvin Clemmons is in charge of the investigation and Officer Bill Watson, Katie’s husband, finds himself booted off the case. Katie is at the top of Detective Clemmons suspect list after a loud altercation with the victim at city hall over a denied business license. Lucy is not about to let her best friend be railroaded by the antagonistic detective. Plus, Clemmons has shut down the beach festival and store owners are losing much needed income. Archie managed to anger several townspeople and was known for the shouting matches with rival store owner, Harold Harper. Lucy delves into the victim’s life in the hopes of uncovering the killer. Lucy narrows her sights onto her target, but can she catch him.
One Feta in the Grave is the third installment in A Kebab Kitchen Mystery series and each book can stand on its own. I thought One Feta in the Grave contained good writing with steady pacing. Lucy finds herself roped into helping at the beach festival courtesy of her best friend, Katie Watson who is responsible for the event. Unfortunately, Archie Kincaid and his rival, Harold Harper manage to cause trouble right from the beginning. Tina Kashian gives readers lovely descriptions of the town, the beach, and the various shops which brings the setting alive. Lucy has left behind her career as an attorney to run Kebab Kitchen and she has rekindled her romance with head chef, Azad Zakarian. Michael, who manages the bicycle rental shop for his uncle, is interested in Lucy and takes her out for long rides on his motorcycle. I must admit that I am partial to Michael over the hot-headed, jealous Azad. I like the various characters in the series as I find them likeable and relatable. I am especially fond of Lucy’s cute niece. There are luscious descriptions of the food cooked and served at Kebab Kitchen. Readers get to learn more about the food related to the Armenian culture. The mystery intrigued me since it could not be solved immediately (I love a good puzzle). There are multiple suspects who have good motive for harming Archie (at least in their eyes). There are recipes at the end of the book for lentil soup, date stuffed cookies, and Greek salad with feta cheese. One Feta in the Grave is a fun, light cozy mystery that will have you longing for a sunny day at the beach. Join Lucy at the Jersey shore in One Feta in the Grave.
I love finding new to me authors and I enjoyed this one very much. I enjoyed the characters and the storyline. I love small towns and the people in them. Ocean Crest is a town that relies on tourist. When one of their biggest money-making festivals is shut down it makes for some unhappy business owners. See how they work through this dilemma. Lucy has a problem that a lot of women would like to have. What will her decision be? I can’t wait to see what will happen the next time I visit with the good folks in Ocean Crest. I received this book from NetGalley, but my opinion is my own.
Lucy Berberian left her big, important job as a lawyer to return home to a small seasonal community and manage her parents' restaurant when they decided to retire, well, at least slow down. Angela still keeps firm control over her kitchen, except when her favorite cooking show is on television.
Their head chef is Lucy's high school boyfriend, and still has hold of her heart.
The hot biker boy next door is waiting in the wings in case things don't work out.
Lucy's best friend is married to a cop, but that doesn't keep them BOTH from getting into trouble, trying their best to stay on the brighter edge of the thin line. So when trouble comes to town and Lucy and Kate find themselves involved in the middle, will they come out unscathed?
With the help of a psychic and thanks to Lucy's early morning training runs, it is a close call.
Hot men, dangerous liaisons, and a town in trouble when their main money making event is canceled due to murder, all contribute to a fast paced and twisty murder investigation.
You can read this as a stand alone book.
One Feta in the Grave is the third installment in the Kebab Kitchen Mystery series set in Ocean Crest, NJ and features Lucy Berberian, ex lawyer who has returned home to manage her family's Mediterranean themed restaurant, Kebab Kitchen. The summer season is winding down and the last week long event planned for the tourist town will include a food and wine tasting organized by Lucy. The Sandcastle competition kicks off the festivities and comes to an abrupt end when owner of the boardwalk t-shop, Archie Kincaid gets into a very loud and verbal confrontation with neighboring shop owner Harold Harper.
Harold has pointed out that one of the sand sculptures was crafted by Archie's nephew, Neil and thus Archie should be kicked off the judging panel. When Lucy's best friend Katie Watson who is in charge of the judges agrees with Harold, Archie goes after her. It seems as though Katie who also works in the town office and is in charge of licensing had denied Archie's application to open a rental bike shop and he hasn't forgotten. A few days later Lucy stumbles upon the body of Archie under the boardwalk, and Detective Calvin Clemmons is quick to point the finger at Katie.
Determined to clear her best friend's name, Lucy sets out at the request of Katie's husband Bill to find the real killer. Her snooping leads Lucy to discover that there are many people in the seaside community who didn't like the shopkeeper including his neighbors, nephew, girlfriend and wife.
A fast paced plot with likable, returning characters, mouthwatering recipes and an adorable stray cat named Gadoo. While it's not necessary to read each book in the series, I suggest starting at the beginning to fully understand the back story for each of the main characters. I truly hope that the author does not continue much longer with the dreaded love triangle (I'm Team Michael).
I received an advanced copy of One Feta in the Grave from Kensington Publishing via NetGalley. While not required to write a review I am more than happy to offer my honest opinion.
I love this series and I think this is the best installment so far.
It's great to meet again the cast of characters and see the developments in their life.
The plot is engaging and entertaining, no plot hole, and the mystery kept me guessing till the end.
I love the setting and I love this mix of Mediterranean and American cultures.
Recommended!
Many thanks to Kensington Books and Netgalley for this ARC
