I absolutely love the men of Haven! Each of these books just pulls me further and further into their wonderful world of support and unconditional love through family and friends. This one by far showcased that quality more than the others, in my opinion.
If ever a heroine needed what the family of Haven have to offer, it was Lizzy. Having been taken advantage of in the past as well as never knowing the true sense of having family to rely on, I found myself choking up each time the realization of what Axel’s family was offering her became apparent. Step by step she begins to learn and trust that he and those around him are there for her through it all. And holy heck, he is the main force behind her ability to finally let loose of the past and hope for a future.
Axel was so amazing in his complete devotion to Elizabeth. From the first moment he laid eyes on her he was taken. I loved his protectiveness over her even when it took a back seat to what he wanted to do. His life now revolved around making sure she had what she needed on a deep emotional level. His actions were exactly what she needed and each time I fell deeper in love with him.
This is a fast paced read with a steam factor that absolutely sizzled. I’m not a huge fan of BDSM but oh my gosh, the scenes between these two were freaking amazing. What they shared was not about power play but about giving Lizzy a safe place to let go. Of course, the secondary characters here offer the perfect support for this couple and especially the heroine and I couldn’t love a group of characters more than I do the men and women of Haven.
I highly recommend this book as well as the rest of this series to anyone who loves strong protective heroes as well as heroines who are just as strong to earn their love.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGalley and Harlequin - Carina Press. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Book 6 in the Haven Brotherhood, Down & Dirty gives us Axel’s story. I have been waiting for this book and although not as intense as the other it certainly didn’t disappoint. I loved the story and the characters and look forward to recommending and reading more by this fabulous author.
I found myself a new fantastic, binge worthy author. I picked up this story and did not want to put it down. It was hot and spicy with sexy scenes that set the pages on fire. A combination of characters following their dreams and finding love in the process. While this was my first read, it will not be my last and I cannot wait to go back and read the rest of this series and everything else she has written.
If you’re going to end a series, this is the way to do it. Rhenna Morgan defiantly saved the best for last. I knew when she gave us Axel’s story, it was going to be powerful and off the charts and she did not disappoint. Axel and Lizzy’s story was the most sexy, sensual and thrilling love story from the start to finish.
From the first time Axel has Lizzy in his sites up to meeting her in the club where she is rocking the house with her voice and her guitar, he knew she was the one and only for him. He not only wanted her but he wanted to give her the stardom that she deserved. He would move heaven and earth for her and as he gets to know her, he realizes that what she really needs is to be loved and belonging to a family. And that he can give her by emceeing her with his Haven family.
Lizzy know that she is attracted to Axel and she does not like his interference of her business. Lizzy know he is powerful in business and the bedroom, and he wants all of her, but what Lizzy can’t do easily is give her trust to another person who she loves has the power to hurt her. She knows that Axel could destroy what little she has left to give. With the love and friendship of the ‘woman” of Haven, Lizzy sees that she can learn to love and trust again.
Is this the last we will really see of The Men of Haven series, or is Rhenna Morgan have a few more books to give us in this series…I certainly hope so.
"You've got the heart of a poet hiding behind all that brawn and manly bluster."
I accidentally happened upon this author when I discovered the first Men of Haven book and I fell hard. She blew me away and I've loved every single book in this series. I enjoyed Rhenna Morgan's writing so much that I even read a few of her paranormal books, and I don't read that genre. And guess what, I loved them!
I met Axel a long time ago and I've been enjoying his sexy Scottish accent very much. I've been anxiously anticipating his story and the opportunity to meet the lucky woman that would benefit from his awesome alpha deliciousness and sweet dirty talk. And when I learned that the story would include music, you might as well just mark the day I read it off the calendar because I was unavailable for life outside those pages.
I devoured this book, and this series. I fell in love with the whole family. The alpha men and their fierce and funny women held me spellbound from cover to cover every time. I don't think I'll ever be ready for this series to end. But, I'll follow wherever the author leads me, as I've proven by venturing into the PNR world. The line forms here...
Though all the books Axel has been the mysterious Scot now it’s time for him to take center stage. Lizzy has been burned and has never known-love or what it means to have a family. Axel is not giving up until she’s his. This is the best series I’ve read in a long time.Strong, Protective,Alfa Men who go after what they want. I really hope this is not the last book in this series there are still 2 brothers left who need a HEA!!
This might have to be my favorite book if the series. This is Axel and Lizzy's book and it is the epitome of slow burn. Seeing an opportunity to get back into the music world, Axel helps up and coming artist Lizzy navigate the tough industry. Little does she know that Axel also wants to mix business with pleasure. This book was so good. It was awesome to have the previous characters in this book as well.
*I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
I’m not even going to sugar coat this one. I’ve been waiting for Axel’s story since this series started and I couldn’t be more satisfied. Even though I know we’re nearing the end of this series (were running out of Haven Men 😩).
Axel is one of the many Haven Brothers. In fact, many might agree that he and Jace were the originators. Having come from a not-so-great childhood and vowing to take care of his family, he’s done quite well for himself. But there’s one thing that he never finished. One thing that no one outside his family even knows about. Music. Besides a little kink in the bedroom and his family members, music makes him happy. That’s most likely why he’s the one in charge of booking the bands for their clubs. And after discovering one particular band, his life will never be the same.
Lizzy is a guitarist and lead singer of her band. She’s busted her butt for years, yet she can’t seem to get any further than a few dive bars. After being chewed up and spit out by a previous band manager, letting people in to her enter circle and trusting them isn’t easy. That is until a stranger walks in to a bar. Sound ominous? Nah. Just the beginning of a fairytale coming true.
I loved this so much. Axel finally found the woman he needed to completely center him. Although Lizzy has been through a lot, she wasn’t spineless, even if she did respond submissively to Axel. Of course we got to revisit with some of the Haven family members. But this was the book that had me falling even more in love with the moms. I wonder if they’ll get their own books one day 🤔 (crossing fingers). I really hope so!!!
Rhenna does it again!
I’ve anticipated Axel’s from the get go- and the love & passion he and Lizzy shared was WAY more than my wildest dreams. I learned that Axel had a musical past in a previous installment, but music is really soul deep for him.
What I did know about Mr McKee was that he was going to be possessive- what I loved was that it was in a way that didn’t spell over the top. I felt every word fly off the pages as if it were happening to me.
When he meet Lizzie, she’s performing in a dive bar- a place that doesn’t appreciate her talent. Axel makes her and her brand an offer that they can’t refuse. The brothers pull out all their resources, and in no time Lizzie is on her way to the top.
We get a healthy dose of all the other brothers, and of course, momma McKee. She really helped instill in Lizzie what their family is all about.
As for Joffrey, well let’s just say he got what he deserved
Bravo Rhenna!!
Another fun installment in the Men of Haven series. Axel and Lizzy have great chemistry and following them on their journey is just wonderful. It was great to see the gang back together again and learn how everyone is doing.
I missed the suspense elements the other books have. The "villain" in this one was not a huge threat. It was neat that for once one of the girls is involved in the take-down.
Overall a little softer than the others, but still a good read.
In my head, Axel was portrayed by Jason Momoa. Do I need to say more? Hahahaha. But kidding aside, I really liked Axel's story because I am a fan of heroes who are alpha hot, who have a possessive-yet-protective streak a mile wide. So on the book boyfriend scale, Axel hits all the right buttons. He is beyond yummy!
But I must say that I wasn't as in love with Lizzy. (Hence the 4-stars.) I think that's because I was expecting more from the woman who'd end up with Axel. I like my heroines to be more snarky and kickass and she really wasn't --- which is totally in keeping with Lizzy's personality and background. It all works out, mind you --- their couple dynamic, I mean --- but I wasn't all swoony about both of the MCs. Again, let me say that I just had a different sort of personality in mind for the love of his life. Shrugs.
On the whole, this was a great finale to an awesome series. I think fans of the series will be happy.
P.S. I knew, from hints in the previous books, that Axel's story was going to have a BDSM flavor to it --- which, honestly, is not really my thing. That being said, I thought that the BDSM scenes in this book were mild and dare I say, pretty safe; so please don't expect any hard-core sexy times.
What a way to end the series! I loved it! This is exactly what I like to see in a hero who was a playboy until he meets his heroine. Once Axel laid eyes on Lizzy, he never looked at another woman. His devotion to her and the way he went at her speed was just AMAZING! I wouldn't change a thing!
Reading about Axel in the previous books of the series, he seemed like the last guy to every settle down. I think that's what makes how he handled Lizzy so wonderful. He was protective, possessive, caring and sweet, but you sure don't mess with her cause he will turn into your worst nightmare.
Lizzy is guarded. She's not had the best upbringing and the first guy she gives her trust to left scars. I worried she would be too standoffish due to her past. I worried for nothing. The author did such a good job of balancing her need to go slow and her character growth due to Axel's care. It was the right timing to be realistic.
All the great side characters from previous books are back. I love when a story has a group of close friends/family that are there for the main characters. It always adds more to the story for me as a reader. Plus I love to see past main characters and their happiness continuing.
I've really loved this series and I am so sad to see it ending. I want more! I truly can't wait to see what this author will bring us next.
Like many readers, I’ve been waiting for Axel’s story with bated breath, and while the wait has been painful, I’m so glad that the primary characters have now been accounted for. I must admit that Axel’s story was not what I was expecting, (not that I really know what I was expecting anyway), but I suppose I can best describe it as more subdued than I anticipated based on the previous books in this series. Don’t get me wrong, the book is great, but it was lacking the same level of intensity and suspense that was front and centre in the previous five books.
The story had informative world building and the usually dramatic background for the heroine of the moment, Elizabeth “Lizzy” Hemming. Lizzy was a firecracker, and not to be messed with if you value your safety. But underneath this tough and hardened exterior, is a woman who has been wronged both emotionally and physically in the past, so naturally this vulnerability draws Axel like a moth to the flame. But what ultimately drew him in was the strength and sass of this perplexing woman, and her caring and protective nature that has survived a harsh and loveless upbringing.
I did like Axel and Elizabeth’s story, but for me personally, this was not the best book of the series. I also expected more resistance from Axel, as he has never hidden his lack of desire for a long-term relationship, so his smitten attitude to Lizzy was unexpected. For me there were gaps in this story, especially in regards to tame approach to Axel’s BDSM proclivities. As an avid reader of the BDSM genre, and based on the implications regarding Axel's lifestyle in previous books, I expected more.
I have no doubt that Ms Morgan will wow readers with something exciting and addictive in the future, and as an avid fan of her exceptional writing, I’ll be eagerly waiting for what comes next. And while I’m sure many readers will find this conclusion to the Men of Haven acceptable, Down & Dirty is a 3 1/2 Star story for me.
Finally, we get Axel's story! I have been waiting to see what this hot Scot is like and the author does not disappoint. Of course Axel has a history, all of the men of Haven do, but oh what a soft gooey inside he has under all that rough.
Once Axel lays eyes on musical phenom Lizzy, he knows he wants her for more than just her talent. His slow pace at earning her trust just endeared him to me even more. Great music, a bit of suspense and did I mention--a HAWT Scot??? Seriously.....he's a great friend, a great business man and he loves his mama. Sigh.
Loved seeing the whole of Haven come together to support not only Axel but to weave Lizzy into their midst. Perfect ending to this series. I only wish we could have a bit more!
Read the whole series. You will love it!

"Down and Dirty" by Rhenna Morgan
My Rationalization...
This was another enjoyable series Book # 6 of the Men of Haven which featured Axel and his pursuit of Elizabeth. Definitely, the hot chemistry was there among them from the first meeting however from the story Axel will have to gain [Elizabeth] Lizzy's trust due to what all had gone on in her life earlier. I loved hearing from many of the family members we have met from other Haven series with them all coming together giving the reader one heck of a good read. The author really works her magic with Axel and Elizabeth that will keep you turning the pages, especially from those hot steamy sex scenes. Be ready for Axel who is 'big red-haired, green eyes, beard rocking Scotland accent with quite a kinky side and Lizzy a rock star who seemed somewhat shy but yet at the end able to hold her on when it is necessary and definitely the one for Axel.
All in all, this was one good enjoyable read "Down and Dirty' that I will recommend along with the other five Men of Haven series.
*I received an arc via the publisher on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.*
I really hoped to like this one more than I did. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it for the most part. The issues I have are probably just mine but I feel like since the first book of this series, this book is the one I've wanted the most. Throughout the whole series we are given hints to Axel's BDSM lifestyle, and when we finally have his book, it's so tame that I felt really let down. Maybe I was reading too much into it before? I don't think so, but maybe...
This one also felt weird in a way in that there were a lot of things about Axel that felt were never really hinted at, like his serious love of music. I don't know. I know that in a series with each book being about a different couple, there are always going to be new things about people you've already come to know and love, but this time, I felt like I never really knew Axel beforre at all and it threw me through a loop.
The other thing was that I really just found the story not all that exciting as the others had been. Sure there were threats and the suspense was there, but not like in the rest of the series. not as much felt on the line as before. Given that, I didn't feel as invested in the characters. .
There were, of course, moments when I really loved what I was reading. Most of that is due to the fact that the men of Haven, are incredible and fun, and totally awesome. And I liked Axel and Lizzy together, even if it took a lot of time for me to get there. And the conclusion of their story was great. I just wish I was wowed the entire way through and that Axel and his proclivities were more intense than what I got.
A lackluster entry into a series that, unfortunately, becomes more derivative with each installment. Morgan's male characters are difficult to distinguish from one another, as all convey domineering attitudes and pretty weird hangups. Lizzie, the female protagonist, is defined almost entirely by her relationships with me, and any attempts Morgan makes in having her connect with the books other female characters fall flat. For series die-hards only.
Down & Dirty is book six in the Men of Haven series and I would recommend starting with the first book in the series, Rough & Tumble, if you are interested in it.
Axel has been the biggest player of the bunch throughout the series so a lot of readers are interested in seeing him meet his match. Lizzy is a musician who was previously involved in a bad relationship with a music executive and weary of men interested in her and her career.
This book will work well for readers looking for a contemporary with an uber-rich alpha male. Axel basically decides everything in their relationship, calls her Elizabeth instead of Lizzy, becomes her Dom in the bedroom, takes control of her career and gets her album recorded and on the radio. Does he actually ever really get to know her and vice-versa? They spend a lot of time with his family and her band family, except for when they're in the bedroom.
Ultimately though, it's not that original and feels surface level. The Scottish accent/background fades in and out and has never really made sense (having somewhat of an accent because of a parent being from that country, yes, but being raised in another tends to rule out a lot of the colloquialisms). The epic player doesn't even think about it once insta-love sets in. There's no real urgency to any of their problems. Down & Dirty works as an escape for a few hours and series readers will enjoy seeing Axel take the fall.
Down and Dirty is the sixth book in the Haven Brotherhood series and man I am loving this series so much, its similiar to a MC setting but not really a full MC. But there is a strong brotherhood, and I just love the two “mothers” that these men took care of and didn’t judge their lifestyle. They are all alpha like personalities but Axel is full on ALPHA Male and this book introduces some BDSM into the relationship. I honestly couldn’t remember if I had seen signs in the beginning that Axel was into BDSM from the previous books and even though I really enjoyed this book BDSM elements aren’t really my favorite aspects to see in the bedroom to be honest but I did feel that Rhenna Morgan did a good job with introducing this into the story.
Our heroine is a rock singer, and she and her band do what they can to make do. Izzy had a bad experience with a man she was with that took advantage of her trust and betrayed her and even though its been years, she still doesn’t date and doesn’t have much interest in men until she meets Axel who gets her a job at his club and seeks more than just a business relationship….he wants her in a long term relationship and isn’t shy about it, and even introduces her to his family. But it will take some doing to show her that she can trust him and they there is something electric and worth investing in.
We see the fears that Izzy has, but we also see the determination that Axel has in showing the one woman he cares about how a good man treats his girl and I love that he is so in tune with her wants and desires and knows what she needs and deserves. There is some fun bantering that goes on between them as well as seeing them explore some kinky stuff in the bedroom. Now its not super strong BDSM but its definitely a element of the story so if you love BDSM….you definitely need to grab this book up. But outside of the bedroom, is where their relationship really shines and we see it in the nuances of their relationships and how well matches Izzy and Axel are for each other.
There are some crazy and fun times with the brotherhood of course and as the reader you feel the magnetism between these two. I have had such a fun time with this series and I honestly never want it to end. Its been a blast to see each member find love and the emotion that is displayed in this book is simply unforgettable and I would like to say that this author is simply wonderful to read. There is no one like her that writes such a compelling story that she does and this book has everything you would want in a romance.
Overall I found Down and Dirty to be packed with sharp wit, delicious alpha males, a relatable heroine and a romance that is full of spice and sweet to quench any palette!! TRULY WELL DONE!
I have been waiting for Axel's story! When granted and ARC I had to do a full re-read of the series and they were all better second time around! I found Axel's story to be a little different then all the rest but in a good way! It drew me in and kept my attention the whole time! Still love those mom's at Haven, they made me laugh more than once! Can't wait to read more from this author!
