RJ and Veenie are on the case again! I love this series - the characters are hilarious and the mystery is always fun! I can't wait for the next one. I received a copy from NetGalley and the publisher and this is my honest opinion.

Baby Daddy Mystery by Daisy Pettles is the 2nd book in the Shady Hoosier Detective Agency series, and another fun addition. This book was hilarious, I laughed out loud so many times. Ruby Jane and Veenie are senior women who work as private eyes, under a lazy licensed private eye. In this adventure the ladies are finding deadbeat dads and getting child support from them, checking if a mistress children really belong to the deceased dentist, and solving a murder. If you feel like laughing, give this book a try, you won't be disappointed. Can't wait to read the next book in the series Chickenlandia Mystery.

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Another really fun and funny installment in this new series about senior sleuths. Having read the first one, I could settle in and enjoy the characters a lot more this time while they sniffed out clues to several mysteries. If it sometimes seems a bit far-fetched, that's likely because it is - and well worth it.

This is one of my new favourite series, and I can't wait for the next one!

Truly enjoyed this mystery. I enjoyed the characters and the setting. Daisy Pettles did a great job writing this one. Never laughed so hard, while trying to figure out who dunnit. I never expected the ending. I look forward to reading more in the future.

I found the language in this story really interesting - and very funny. Very idiomatic of these rural US areas.
The story was full of all sorts interesting phrases and sayings and one of my favourite was about Children and Genetics:
God is blind and baking a cake with whatever is left over in the larder - the ingredients are OK but proportions are off. This explained a lot about this town and its surroundings.
Too much nooky and who knew the father of any child was - they didn't like to travel far for their entertainment and thus some very mixed genes - which often led to some seriously weird people and behaviours.
An enjoyable romp through rural Indiana. And loved having 'grandmas' as the best detectives around - usaully through gossip.

This was another hilarious installment in this series that I started reading last year via NetGalley. I love how slapstick everyone in the town is, even the perps. Veenie absolutely cracks me up when she sticks her dentures out and likes to scare people with them. She is such a hoot, but she knows what she's doing. I like to make sure I'm not reading this series in public, because it's definitely laugh out loud all the way through the book.

The girls had four cases they were juggling at one time, and somehow at the end, all the cases came together. One death was ruled natural, but there was another killing, and I definitely didn't guess that until some major clues came together. It might seem all fun and crazy at a first glance, there there always is a set of interesting cases going on with RJ and Veenie. I love that their age doesn't slow them down, they know as much about technology as any teen would, and they are as loyal to one another as the day is long. It's always funny to see what hot water their boss Harry, has gotten himself into. He likes the ladies a little too much, and one of the husbands likes to go around shooting up Harry's office with his shotgun. Just another spring time day in Knobby Waters, Indiana!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher via NetGalley.

Baby Daddy Mystery by Daisy Pettles is the second book of the cozy Shady Hoosier Detective Agency mystery series. While our characters have returned in this second book of the series it does feature an all new mystery to be solved so this could easily be read as a standalone if choosing to do so.

Our two main characters of the Shady Hoosier Detective Agency mystery series are a couple of “elderly” ladies, Ruby Jane Waskom and Veenie Goens. Best friends all their lives the pair lean on each other with neither being rich and still needing to work to support themselves they have taken on working at the Shady Hoosier Detective Agency, what better job to put to use their nosy natures.

This time around the ladies think they have a simple case when Avonelle Apple hires them after her husband passed away and she immediately received a child support letter from a self-proclaimed mistress. Everything seemed like it would be easy enough until Avonelle’s son, Bromley, is found dead wearing a scarecrow costume.

The Shady Hoosier Detective Agency mystery series is definitely for those that are fans of an over the top quirky comedy cozy. There are just so many funny and hilarious moments involved with these characters in each of the books so far that it’s hard to even pay attention and try to guess the mystery instead of getting distracted with the antics. Being such a ton of fun from start to finish I’ll definitely keep an eye out for book three.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

I've been reading some very grim thrillers, gritty urban fiction and heartbreaking women's fiction lately and I seriously needed a change of pace. How fortuitous that Daisy Pettle would publish the next book in Shady Hoosier Detective Agency series.

For those of you who may be unaware, "Hoosiers" is the official name for those of us who are lucky enough to live in the midwestern state of Indiana. You can ask a dozen people where the nickname originated and you will receive a dozen different answers but it is now our official title. That said, this series with its quirky characters, often real-life Hoosier settings and true to life, ethnocentric humor, had me laughing-out-loud from start to finish. I adored the first book, The Ghost Busting Mystery, but The Baby Daddy Mystery was just too terrific, even better than the first!

Ruby Jane and Veenie are back and have been hired by one of the wealthiest women in town to verify the paternity of her late husband's mistress's children. However, the dead bodies soon begin to pile up as RJ and Veenie get closer to learning the truth. It doesn't help that it is spring in PawPaw County and everyone - literally - is having a spring fling with somebody else's spouse. What can I say? The Hoosier hills come alive in the spring time. ;)

These books are meant to be read with tongue in cheek. The joy of reading them is in their massive amount of humor and it comes in buckets. This one did, in fact, have a bit more actual sleuthing than the first and that made it a tad more enjoyable for me but I would read anything that featured RJ and Veenie. It is so incredibly rare for women their age to be featured as anything other than doddering old fuddy-duddies and I absolutely adore the fact that Veenie, well, is actually a lot like me! Now if only I could find that elusive pie hut I would be in heaven!

If you haven't read anything in this series yet - well, what are you waiting for!?
Thank you so much to #Netgalley, @DaisyPettles and #HotPantsPressLLC for my copy of this delightful book!

Loved it! This one was just as funny, if not more, than the first one! Don't read if you are afraid of folks looking at you for laughing out loud or snorting with some of the antics in the book. You have been warned!

Spring has sprung in Pawpaw County and it seems most everyone has an itch that needs to be scratched. RJ and Veenie are once again on the case of finding out if someone is truly the baby daddy when their next case lands on the porch, literally! They have to find out what the heck is going on with all the craziness in the county and hope they don't end up below ground before summer.

Down in the back hill country of Pawpaw County, Indiana, it's spring and apparently everyone has had enough of the cold weather and can't wait to get out and do some of that birds and bees thing. Ruby Jane Waskom, better known as RJ, and Lavinia Goens, (Veenie), are busy again chasing down low-down, cheating sidewinders and deadbeat daddies at the Shady Hoosier Detective Agency when Avonelle Apple asks the pair to find out if, indeed, she has progidy heretofore unannounced. The owner of the agency with whom they work has skedaddled out of town before the husband of the sweet thing he's been playing with can catch him, so the pair are temporarily on their own.

If that's not enough, RJ's daughter suspicions her insurance hubby is getting in some jolly's on the side, and their broader is throwing some sassy twists to the well-plotted, multi-leveled mystery. I must admit I have never run across SOOO many euphemisms for male equipment, or ribald comments poked at so much sexual innuendo. Okay, better this, I guess, than some of the more common language these days--cleaner--but no less surprising, much less in a cozy aimed at senior women meant to evoke humor.

There was a plot device you would probably recognize, the use of many landmark names you might also recognize. No problem with the book functioning as a standalone, these gals are more than well-fleshed. I loved the l960 Impala; those land yachts were definitely unique. The dialogue appears to have brought out a number of LOL's in previous readers and no doubt this would tickle a great many readers into appreciating an unusual cozy offering.

But I was NOT prepared for the dialogue or the snarky sexual turn of phrase in this "senior sleuth" cozy mystery. This is Book 2 of the Shady Hoosier Detective Agency series and judging by the reviews published before me, very well received. I received the ebook download from the publisher and NetGalley and greatly appreciated the opportunity to read and review. 3.5/5 stars

An amusing, light-hearted mystery. The terminology, character names, location names, etc. are also quite funny. It may have helped that I am a former Hoosier and am somewhat familiar with southern Indiana. I look forward to reading the next one.

Another Laugh Your Sox Off cozy mystery from Pawpaw County, Indiana. It seems like almost every male in the area is a philandering fool, and we won't even get into a discussion about the women. But it seems that only the males are the ones getting dead which makes a lot of work and laughter for our favorite senior sleuthing team of Ruby Jane and Veenie. No spoilers needed, and the characters certainly are which you can tell from the publisher's blurb. If you need some howling good laughs in a mystery with a plot, this is the place!
I requested and received a free ebook copy from Hot Pants Press via NetGalley. Thank you!

Another fun cozy mystery. The two elderly ladies - well I suppose mainly the narrator RJ - have some interesting views on men. They've grown up and lived in an American backwater, and are sarcastic and funny in their attitudes and the dialogue shared with us.

Witty, pacy and enjoyable.

This is book 2 in the series, and has the same pace and great descriptions as the first. The plot is actually a little better, with several mysteries going on. Good, lighthearted entertainment.

I was lucky enough to read a pre-release copy of this 2nd Shady Hoosier book - Baby Daddy Mystery.

Our favorite senior sleuths, RJ and Veenie, are drafted back into action by the local town bank owner, Avonelle Apple. Seems Avonelle’s late husband might have been fooling around and left a few offspring that fell a little further away from the Apple tree, and Avonelle has gotten a letter requesting child support payments!

Right around the same time, RJ’s daughter Joyce is in emoji hysteria ‘cos she thinks her hubby is having an affair.

Then, of course, there’s good old Harry Shades who is hankying just about everyone’s panky.

If that’s not enough, one of Avonelle’s twin sons (both dentists, like their dad – that’s the tooth, the whole tooth and nothing but the tooth!) is found dressed up as a scarecrow and dead as a doornail.

Veenie and RJ will unpuzzle these puzzles, and keep you laughing as they do it. These gal pals are the brightest sunshine in Pawpaw county, for sure.
