This was an interesting book on the how to of meditation and traditions surrounding the practice. I enjoyed this perspective and have added bits to my toolkit for further use.

I didn’t feel like this book was particularly accessible. Though I am highly interested in the subject matter, I found reading this slow & uninteresting. It read much like an academic text as though aimed to talk down to the reader. It felt like a middle aged white man’s midlife crisis, goes to India and writes a book.

Aspects intrigued me but not enough to recommend the book.

The bulk of Brunton's book is on the ins and outs of meditation, but the topics I enjoyed most involved philosophy and mysticism. This would be a great book for anyone interested in alternative viewpoints, meditation, and self-improvement.
