A major contribution to the literature of the feminist movement. Hirshman is a superb storyteller as well as a conscientious historian.

RECKONING by Linda Hirshman certainly grabs readers' attention due to its bright cover and bold subtitle: "The Epic Battle Against Sexual Abuse and Harassment." In this non-fiction work, Hirshman covers the period from the 1970s through the #MeToo movement. Having written previously about Supreme Court justices Sandra Day O'Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg in Sisters in Law, Hirshman's primary lens in this latest text is a legal/political one. Her chapters are generally chronological with some overlapping periods. Of course, there are numerous references to the media and those involved like Clarence Thomas, Bill Clinton, Roger Ailes, and Harvey Weinstein. She writes about workplace inequities, feminism, and recent protests, taking a rather strident view to say, for example, that "because sexual harassment is also about sex everywhere, sex harassment actually matters more than even most kinds of sex discrimination at work" or "you cannot separate sex from power." Notes and an index comprise a little over fifteen percent of the text. Although RECKONING received a starred review from Booklist, most of our student researchers would likely find it to be a supplementary source.

This is a great historical background up what has led up to the #MeToo movement and why some folks, like black women have been in the struggle and engaged much longer and deeper than white married women. White married women have been a problem - that come to the workforce later and even 52% voted against their own interests in the presidential election.

Much to be done and after someone reads this, they will gain some wisdom as to how things must change.
