If anyone has read my previous reviews, you already realize that one of my favorite genres is that of Amish Fiction. Although collections of novellas are not always my top pick of books to read,(only because I never want the tale to end), I have to admit when I saw the names of the authors who contributed to this collection, I knew this novel would be one that I would love!! All four of these stories involve reuniting with loved ones. Each author uses her own unique style to produce a story that keeps the reader engrossed from beginning to end of the book. It was a delight to reunite with some of the folks of past series as well as encounter new individuals, each coming with their own needs and challenges.

Each and every character is described in a vivid , realistic fashion, enabling the reader to easily identify with them, feeling every hurt as well as allowing one to experience their joy when their battles of life are successfully dealt with. Just a side note.... be ready with a box of tissues, as these dear people tug at your heartstrings. Sensitive subjects are addressed with care and understanding as these families deal with grief, as well as struggles to maintain faith and trust in self as well as others. The reader is left with a deep feeling of empathy and understanding of these day to day challenges, similar to what each of us has experienced. Lives were changed as these characters repaired hurting relationships through forgiveness and faith in a higher power.

The plot in each novella moved at a quick pace and each was full of unexpected twists and turns. The theme of forgiveness so much valued by the Amish faith shines loud and clear throughout these four tales. This is not an easy task as each family discovered. Although each story is a standalone , the common theme of forgiving in order to heal past hurts so that once can achieve reconciliation among family members ties them together. Even when we feel we are at our lowest , deepest moments, there is always hope, if we look above and follow God's plans. Peace within a family is so important to gain true happiness.

This is a book not to be missed!! These authors should be commended on their skill and talent of leaving a lasting impression on all readers. The importance of faith and forgiveness to achieve healing past hurts comes through loud and clear . I was left with the thought, "Can I do something to improve my own and my family's lives?" Of course, after reading this book, all readers will have the answer!

I am a huge fan of the four authors in this collection and have read most everything they have written so I knew I would enjoy each of the four stories. I normally don't have a favorite in these collections but in this one my absolute favorite was penned by Beth Wiseman. I absolutely adored Elizabeth and Gideon Beiler In a Reunion of Hearts.
Their story was the most moving to me and I rooted for them to find the peace and happiness they truly deserved.

One of the other things I liked was reconnecting with characters crafted by Amy Clipston in, Their True Home and Kathleen Fuller in, A Chance to Remember. Admittedly I haven't always liked Rudy Swarey but Ms. Clipston managed to do what I thought would be impossible by making him likeable so kudos to her for making that happen! I've always loved Cevilla Schlabach and I loved her storyline so much. Kelly Long always captures my heart with her writing making her one of my favorite authors.

All of the stories are poignant with characters who you will love making this collection one I highly recommend.

An Amish Reunion: Four Stories by Amy Clipston, Beth Wiseman, Kathleen Fuller, and Kelly Irvin

An Amish Reunion is a collaboration by four authors. The stories are about love, faith, hope, family, and healing, and yet, each story is different. Each author has woven these themes into their stories in their own unique way making this collaboration an inspiring and delightful read.

Their True Home by Amy Clipston

After ten years, Marlene Baxwell returns back to her home town. She reintegrates into the community and runs into Rudy Swarey, her former crush from their school days. A friendship blossoms, but will it become more?

A Reunion of Hearts by Beth Wiseman

Can a couple recover what they once had after suffering a tragic loss? Does time heal all wounds? Ruth and Gideon Beiler reflect on these as they are reunited after years of separation. Will love and God’s faithfulness bring these two back together?

A Chance to Remember by Kathleen Fuller

Although one is Amish and the other Englisch, Cevilla Slabach and Richard Johnson were great friends in their younger days. But decades have passed since they’ve seen or heard from one another. However, life situations bring fond memories back to Richard and he decides to try and reconnect with Cevilla. Is love possible after all these years?

Mended Hearts by Kelly Irvin

Mistakes in life are painful. Hannah Kauffman lives this every day as she feels her community has forgiven, but not forgotten. Even so, she works hard and is doing her best in raising her child as a single parent. When Thaddeus Yoder returns home, Hannah struggles even more, not just with what others think, but about what she feels for Thaddeus. He also feels the pain of life’s mistakes, but is working to change and make things right. Will their love grow? Will it bring forgiveness and healing?

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Zondervan through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I love books like this because readers get to read stories from four amazing authors. They each have a gift for writing and giving us characters we can relate to. Sit back and enjoy these stories about reunions, family, love and hope.

THEIR TRUE HOME by AMY CLIPSTON

It is not always easy to come home especially for Marlene and her family. Her father is very concerned about providing for his family since he lost his job. His decision to return to their home they had ten years ago is very hard on the family. I loved how the family pitched in to help with chores and expenses. Her dad is still grieving the loss of his wife and I think his pride is a little hurt having to return to the town he left long ago. When Marlene finds a job to help out, I wondered if her father would be pleased with her. Rudy and Marlene hit if off pretty well and working together helps build a good friendship. I liked the story and how welcoming the community was to Marlene and her family. What will happen when Marlene’s dad gets news of a job from the town they just left? Can Marlene convince her dad that they are already home? Lovely story of finding your way home and falling in love.

A REUNION OF HEARTS by BETH WISEMAN

My heart ached as I read that Ruth was coming home for a reunion that would bring back painful memories. I could feel her grieve as she relived the day she received news that her precious daughter and mother-in-law had died in an accident. The pain was too much for Ruth and her husband Gideon. They both left their faith and went their separate ways. Will the reunion heal their wounds? Can it bring them back together? Ruth’s fear is great and she will have to let God help her through her grief and take away any fear she has. I felt sorry for Gideon who was hurting but didn’t really know what to say to Ruth. The story is about healing not just from losing someone but losing faith in God. It is emotional at times and I could feel Ruth and Gideon pain as they shared how hard it was for them to lose their child. Can God restore their marriage? Will forgiveness bring them closer to each other ? This reunion is full of tears, dealing with the past and allowing God to heal your broken heart.

A CHANCE TO REMEMBER by KATHLEEN FULLER

There is no way not to fall in love with Cevilla. She is a wonderful character who welcomes Richard and his granddaughter to stay with her while they are in town. I love Cevilla's take charge attitude and sincere love of life. It had been awhile since Cevilla and Richard have seen each other. The author gives us a lovely story of two mature adults who reminiscence about their past together and along the way find happiness again with each other. Meghan is out of sorts in her live and maybe this visit will be just what she needs. Her love for her grandfather is obvious and together they will come to terms with the past and find new memories to cherish. We are all worthy of love and these characters will find out how much they are loved in this heart warming story.

MENDED HEARTS by KELLY IRVIN

Hannah is a sweet young lady who made a mistake according to the community and had been banned for a period of time. For her it seems like people are still treating her like she has not been forgiven. I liked how Hannah took responsibility and does her best to support herself and her little girl Evie. It angered me to read that the father skipped out and left Hannah all alone with a baby. The story is a wonderful example of forgiveness. I don't know how I would respond if the father of my child deserted us and then shows up two years later. We all want to be forgiven but for Hannah it is much more than forgiveness. For Hannah it is about trusting someone who broke your heart and left you to face the community on your own. The story is an emotional journey as two people try to repair the hurt from their past. I thought it was a great example of how easy it is to hold on to something you thought you had forgiven.

I received a copy of this book from the authors and Fiction Guild. The review is my own opinion.

Novellas with heart

These four novellas are from four well established and favorite authors of Amish fiction. I enjoyed each of them. The themes were reunions, but such a variety of stories and issues to be overcome by the characters. My 4 star rating is probably unfair; but I find the novella format a bit too terse for the ultimate in character and story development. This group of novellas is a great way of introducing the reader to some of the leading authors of contemporary Amish fiction.

Their True Home: Marlene, along with her widower father and sister, move back to Bird-in-Hand after ten years, following the loss of her father's job in Indiana. They are living with family, who has also given her father a job. Unlike her father, Marlene is delighted to back in Bird-in-Hand as this is where her fondest of her mother are, and where she feels closest to her.
Marlene obtains a job in the local hardware store planning on contributing her earnings to her daad's in hopes that he will be able to rent a home for them and remain in Bird-in-Hand. Rudy works in the store, also, as his father owns it. He and Hannah begin having lunch together and becoming close.
Will Hannah's dream to remain in Bird-in-Hand come true? Is there love also there for her? A must read.
A Reunion of Hearts: Ruth and Gideon Beiler were once deeply in love until tragedy tore them apart in their grief of losing their only child. Angry, bitter and cutting words took the place of loving thoughts and words toward each other. Finally, Ruth left town feeling she couldn't take any more. Later, Gideon also left. Still married, but not speaking or living together anymore. Five years later, both are invited back for a family reunion. Both go, each sure the other will not attend. Big surprise! Is there a second chance at love for them? Will they divorce? You'll have to read to find out!
A Chance to Remember: Cevilla, now in her 80's is known as the matchmaker, as she has set many couples up who are now happily married. Richard, a friend (Englisch at that) unexpectedly shows up at Cevilla's door. It seems Richard had feelings for Cevilla so so long ago. Feelings she was never aware of. Is Cevilla too old for love? Is there an age limit on falling in love? Wonderful story!
Mended Hearts: Hannah, believing herself to be deeply in love with Thaddeus, committed an act with him that left her with child, shamed, and humiliated. Thaddeus took the coward's way out by leaving town. Hannah endured the bann, bending the knee and confessing before the Church, and the shame she feels from everyone. But, there is no mistaking her love for her daughter, Evie. Hannah works hard in a restaurant where her friend, Phillip has been frequenting. Hannah knows he loves Evie, but does he also love her? Can she trust herself to know what love is? She was so sure Thaddeus loved her two years ago.
What a surprise when Thaddeus walks in the restaurant unannounced! He says he's sorry and wants a life with Hannah and wants to meet his daughter. Hannah is so angry, but...what are these other feelings? Can she trust him? Can she trust herself and her feelings?
An endearing story. I had such great empathy for Hannah.
I was given a copy of this to read by the publisher, Zondervan and Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

My Review:

Rating and Recommendation: 3 stars, and recommended for 13 up.

My Thoughts on Their True Home by Amy Clipston:

This was a cute opening to this collection of Amish stories. I loved the characters and their story. Having read Amy Clipstion’s books before I knew I would enjoy this one . . . and I did though it may now be my favorite of her Amish books! *wishes it was longer* And that cover is so beautiful! If you like Amish books you need to check this one out. A plus was that it wasn’t too over the top with the characters not wanting to admit that they aren’t good together though they do protest loving each other – of course.

My Thoughts on A Reunion of Hearts by Beth Wiseman

Wow, I’ve never read an Amish book like this and I’m not sure if I liked it or not . . . I didn’t care for the theme of divorce. I liked the story otherwise and Becky was super cute! I loved the ending and the beginning was okay. I’m just going to say that it was the oddest Amish book I’ve ever read and yet it was a slightly enjoyable book. If I hadn’t read books by the author I would have assumed that the author knew nothing about Amish but I know she does know a good bit from other books and Beth Wiseman seems to take an overdone Amish story and turn it into a new idea.

My Thoughts on A Chance to Remember by Kathleen Fuller

Awwwwwwwwww! This one was really sweet and adorable, with an older couple and a granddaughter. Characters may or may not have gotten lost a time or two but . . . I’m not saying they did. I was surprised that a relationship was even considered since Richard isn’t Amish . . . I feel that it was slightly unrealistic even if sweet.

My Thoughts on Mended Hearts by Kelly Irvin

I haven’t read the last story in the collection yet but may at a later date.

An Amish Reunion is a reminder of how God works to make our lives better. The couples in these stories have a lot to work on in there relationships to make them work. All for different reasons have been apart. So many emotions are in this book. I found myself at times wanting to cry , laugh, and reach into the book and hug some of these characters. I was very please with each novella from beginning to end. One of the reasons I love reading Amish books is the understanding that God wants us to love and forgive each other..

This is a novella collection of four Amish short stories. Let me tell you how much I enjoyed every story here. I've read many book by all of these popular Amish genre writing authors and the shorter stories don't make the stories any less enjoyable. All of these novellas have complete story lines and I loved them! They all revolve around some type of reunion. We all sin and do wrong sometimes pretty big, wrongs,I love seeing how freely forgiveness is given among the Amish.

Each time I read novellas by these four authors I’m amazed how they can tell such a complete, compelling story in such a short time frame. And they’ve done it once again.

Instead of leaving a review for each story, let me say that they are all incredible. I love the characters, I love the settings. I love everything about these stories. You’ll see old friends again and meet new friends. Riveting story lines will keep you turning the pages to see what’s next.

As always, it’s refreshing to read about people who take life slower than we do, who understand the importance of God and family, and who are not perfect. The romances are clean and suitable for even the teenage reader. I highly recommend An Amish Reunion!

I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.

I love reading novellas, specifically Amish novellas. They are short, quick reads full of life, love, beautiful characters and inspirational messages. Each author creates a story that is different, yet within the collections they blend beautifully.

I loved all four of these novellas but my favorite was Amy Clipston’s Their True Home. I love Clipston’s writing style and how she instantly hooks you into the story. Her characters are flawed, yet perfect. Her messages flow magnificently within the story and by the time you realize you’re at the end of the story, you want more.

In Their True Home, Marlene returns home, and reconnects with old friends, especially Rudy. But, it’s not easy, and God truly is felt through this story of renewal, faith, and hope. Clipston had me hooked from page one, and I felt myself being transported to Bird-In-Hand, working along side Rudy and Marlene, feeling the emotional roller coaster they went through. The connection between Rudy and Marlene is powerful, and I loved watching them find their true place in life!

If you love the simplicity of the Amish life, the way they love with all they have and the way they believe in hope and forgiveness, then order this book now. It’s filled with tender characters, hope filled messages and beautiful writing styles. Definitely 4 star worthy!

"It may be hard for you to see right now, but God has a plan for you. Scripture promises He takes everything and makes it work for your good. You can count on Him." (p.290) Mended Hearts

These words were penned by Kelly Irvin but they could apply to all of the stories found in An Amish Reunion. This new book is a collection of four novellas that focus on relationships that appear to be damaged beyond repair. The characters are of varioius ages and the circumstances are all different but each story allows us to see these Amish people during their weakest moments. Their True Home promises us that we can go home again; A Reunion of Hearts shows us that our greatest hurts and our deepest sorrows can be healed; A Chance to Remember suggests that love and companionship is possible during our golden years; and Mended Hearts teaches us that love and forgiveness is often the cure for our deepest hurts. Each of these stories offers the assurance that nothing is impossible!

Amy Clipston, Beth Wiseman, Kathleen Fuller and Kelly Irvin are all talented authors in their own right but their combined talents have produced an enjoyable collection. I recommend An Amish Reunion for anyone who likes Amish stories and Christian fiction.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and Net Galley and I voluntarily chose to share this review.

I volunteered to read this book prepublication in exchange for my honest review. Four well written books all in one. I was only familiar with Beth Wiseman's previous book, but I am impressed with the other authors after reading this book. All the stories are about finding love at different stages of life. It includes a glossary of Amish terms. I like Amish books that incorporate the Deutsche language. This is a must read for people who love Amish books or love stories in general.

I absolutely loved this anthology of Amish fiction stories. Each one was done by a favorite Amish writer of mine. Gobbling up these stories is easy. The writers made each tale come to life. The characters stole my heart with every page.

Amy Clipston's story of Their True Home was heartfelt. A young woman who lost her mom and then is taken from the place she called home. Her father is struggling with being a single parent. He feels angry that his daughter feels the need to work in order to help the family. He wants to head back to Indiana and instead of staying with his family. He too, once called Bird-In-Hand home. But memories of his wife make it difficult for him.

Beth Wiseman's story, A Reunion of Hearts, was just as emotional. A young Amish couple once deeply in love have been separated by their grief. They allowed their loss to tear them apart. Now, family and friends are working to bring them together. Only each spouse thinks the other won't come. But both do...and their love is renewed. However, only time will tell if they will heal and forgive each other. I found this story inspiring and unique. Amish can't marry and then break away. They have to work at their marriage for bad or good, sickness or health, and for rich or poor. Yet these two let the weight of sadness overcome they love they have. Grief is a lot easier to bear when shared. This couple grieved and bore the pain separately. It caused a drift but with some faith and family help, nothing is impossible.

Kathleen Fuller's story, A Chance to Remember, was a tale of unexpected love and friendships. Isn't there a saying that says, friendship is the building chip to a deeper relationship? Both Cevilla the matchmaker and her Englisher friend,  Richard, may just find their path to happiness. This was a sweet story featuring an older couple. Not many stories feature grandparents but this one did. It solely focused on a couple in their later years. I enjoyed the shyness from Richard and the determined Cevilla.

Kelly Irvin's Mended Hearts is one of the best stories to end this anthology. It contains a tale about a younger Amish woman who fell to modern ways of living. She made a mistake and seeks forgiveness. Yet she still feels the eyes of everyone watching her like a hawk. Just waiting for Hannah to break away again. But not everyone is waiting for her to make mistakes. A young Amish fellow has been kindly waiting for the right moment to love Hannah the way she deserves to be loved. It both broke and mended my heart reading this story. Heartfelt, deep, and engaging I could not stop reading it.

Overall, I recommend this Amish collection of stories to all readers. From young to old, these stories have captured my heart and soul. They felt so real. I cried, laughed, and rooted all the way to the end. An Amish Reunion is a must read.

An Amish Reunion contains four charming Amish stories by Amy Clipston, Beth Wiseman, Kelly Irvin and Kathleen Fuller. Their True Home by Amy Clipston takes us to Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania. Marlene Bawell is happy her family has returned to her hometown after ten years. Her father was laid off from the RV factory in Indiana and was unable to find other work. Marlene wants to help her father save for a place of their own and obtains a job at Lancaster Hardware & Supply owned by Rudy Swarey’s father. Rudy and Marlene went to school together and she had a crush on him as a teen. Rudy is taken with Marlene and can tell she needs a friend. They become close while working together. Before they can take the next step in their relationship, Marlene’s father has an announcement.

Reunion of Hearts by Beth Wiseman has us journeying to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Ruth and Gideon Beiler lost their daughter five years earlier. Their grief drove the couple apart and away from their Amish faith. Ruth has returned for her family’s reunion and to help Gideon get their home ready to sell. While Ruth and Gideon have been living in separate states, they are still married. When Ruth encounters Gideon at the cemetery, old feelings rush back. They have both found a way to work their grief and back to God. Ruth’s sister, Esther has a little girl named Becky who talks openly about Ruth’s daughter, Grace. It allows Gideon and Ruth to remember the good times. Ruth and Gideon are meant to be together, but will they realize this in time?

Kathleen Fuller gives us A Chance to Remember set in Birch Creek, Ohio. Cevilla Schlabach is surprised when Richard Johnson shows up at her house. Cevilla has not seen Richard since she was eighteen and left her English life behind to join the Amish. They spend time reminiscing about the past and catching up on their lost years. There friendship is renewed and there are flickers of something more. Cevilla has always said that God is enough for her, but has He led Richard to her to give her love in her golden years?

Mended Hearts by Kelly Irvin transports readers to Jamesport, Missouri. Hannah Kauffman had her daughter, Evie out of wedlock twenty-one months ago. She has not seen Evie’s father, Thaddeus since he chose to leave town rather than repent. Now he reappears wanting to see their daughter and prove to Hannah that he has changed. Phillip Schwartz has been there for Hannah since the beginning. He has been a good friend, but he is in love with Hannah and wants to court her. Hannah is grateful to Phillip for standing by her, but her feeling for Thaddeus have not changed. She is afraid, though, of trusting any man again. Marriage would make her respectful in the eyes of the community. Hannah needs to pray for guidance and see what is the right path for her and Evie’s future.

An Amish Reunion contains four heartwarming and appealing stories. I found them to be well-written with steady pacing. All four stories contain relatable characters and situations. They deal with grief, heartbreak, self-doubt, loss of faith, and trust issues. Grief affects each one of us differently. As one of the characters said in Reunion of the Hearts “people say all kinds of things when they are grieving”. People say things they do not mean and later regret. We get to see how it affected our characters and changed their lives. I enjoyed getting the stories on characters I have come to know and love from these authors series. Cevilla is known for playing matchmaker and now the tables are turned. Hannah was shunned for her disobedience, but while she has been forgiven, no one has forgotten. I have wanted to know what happened to Hannah after her shunning (and now I do). One of the phrases I appreciated from this novella was “it is never too late to right a wrong”. The Christian elements are woven throughout each story. We see the importance of faith and prayer in one’s life. Amy Clipston’s Their True Home was an engaging story. I am drawn in immediately, read too quickly and am sorry when the story ends (best kind of books). My favorite story was A Chance to Remember featuring Cevilla. It was such a sweet story that reminds us it is never too late to reconnect with a friend or to find love. My favorite phrase from that story is from Cevilla “I always put my trust in God and always will”. One expression that is especially meaningful is “love is a home where your heart can live forever”. There are discussion questions after each novella. I delighted in reading these four heartfelt and impactful Amish novellas.

Wonderful collection of stories about different seasons of change !
In the first story Amy Clipston gives us a story about Marlene and Rudy, a young couple learning change through working together. Marlene navigates the change of moving home after years spent away and she deals with memories of loss associated home. I thought this was a great story on how to push yourself to overcome past sadness and turn it to something new.
In the second story Beth Wiseman tells a story about Ruth and Gideon and how they deal with the loss of a child and the impact on their marriage. They don't handle the loss well at first, but after five years the Lord leads them home to each other. A great story about grief and the growing that can come out of that time in life.
The third story is by Kathleen Fuller. She tells a story about a wonderful, sarcastic, and straight speaking Grandma type lady who is used to matchmaking for other people. But this time God had something special in mind for her. A very sweet story.
Last but not least we get a story by Kelly Irvin. She tells us a story about a young couple who didn't wait and it was made worse by some decisions that were made. But through their trials came forgiveness and growing into the people that God wanted for them to be. A particularly good story as it is not always a subject people will face head on. I loved it and I think it was a great representation of the true circumstances that people go through when they have a baby out of wedlock, especially in an Amish community,
This is a great collection of stories that I would definitely recommend reading, it is great encouragement when going through different seasons of change.
I volunteered to read this book from Zondervan Fiction in return for my honest feedback. The opinions expressed within are my own.

The four stories are by Amy Clipston, Beth Wiseman, Kathleen Fuller and Kelly Irvin. These were well written and they made me laugh and cry. I really enjoyed this book. I received a copy of this book from the author for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

An Amish Reunion by Amy Clipston, Beth Wiseman, Kathleen Fuller, and Kelly Irvin is an enjoyable novella. It is an easy read.
All four stories have a reunion theme but all have a separate storyline. You get sorrow, love, friendship, family, faith. forgiveness, renewal, and romance. There is even a story with a golden years romance.
This novella will not disappoint. The characters are likeable and realistic. Each setting will have you feeling you are there. Each story is unique.
