Although not my favorite from this author it was really good and I liked it. It was different and intriguing for sure. Would recommend this book to all my friends.

Received a digital ARC of this book via NetGalley.

An action packed adventure. A medical doctor has found the cure for cancer and will go to any length to preserve it. A bounty hunter who is determined to fulfill her latest job no matter the price. A teenager who finds that he has the cure for cancer in his body. And a father willing to do anything to protect his son.

How far would you go to get and/or protect what you desire? What’s the cost?

This book was ok. I felt like it leans more towards drama than thriller/mystery. The book emphasised a lot on the Father-Son relationship which I’m not really interested in.
I wanted to read more action and stronger plot, which in my opinion wasn’t that strong. Firstly, if the tumor is decreasing in size, why can’t it be removed without endangering Lucas? The fact that death is the only solution to harvest the tumor no doubt makes the story more exciting. But Lucas didn’t need to die if the tumor is growing smaller. This was not addressed in the story.

Then, Keith was framed for inflicting cigarette burns on Lucas’s body, yet in the story hospital staff revealed the burns only happened after Lucas was admitted. The accusation was weak to begin with, why would an abusive father show his cards by abusing his son in the hospital, even more so if Lucas came in without any signs of abuse? I felt like the writer’s attempt to make it seem like Keith was an abuser was weak.

What about those bad guys deployed by Lucas’s grandfather? To crumble so quickly under a young lass’s switchblade is too good to be true. I don’t see her prowess in the way she wields the blade. The way she was painted in the book doesn’t convince me that she’s skilled in combat. This just makes the bad guys look like wimps, which contradicts the nefarious reputations surrounding Lucas’s grandfather. Where’s all the action?

That aside, I like Charlie’s character. She’s downright mean with no conscience. I can safely say she’s even meaner than most protagonists in all the thrillers/mysteries that I’ve read. In my head she’s a psychopath with absolutely no remorse in manipulating her own Nephew for her selfish gains. I really like her character because she reminds me of myself somewhat.

For the lack of action and solidarity of plot, i would have given this a 2. But because of the nice enough twist at the end and the generally pleasant writing style, I will give this a 3.
