Really enjoyed this book. Great plot and engaging, believe characters. I was drawn right into the story. Would definitely recommend.
This was a light and fluffy second chance, friends to lovers romance. The characters are all easy to like, though not very complex or unique. They seemed quite similar and often times it was hard to remember who was talking.
It did feel a bit too simple for my liking but I didn't hate it. The writing could have been better. It was choppy and didn't flow very well. The plot was fun and had a lot of potential but it seemed to miss its mark.
Imagine finding the one who completes you but the timing is never right. Years have passed and when you never think you’ll get your chance it all comes together. Absolutely loved cheese ball and Max!
4.5 stars
I thoroughly enjoyed this story but it wasn’t 5 stars for me. I found the characters’ thoughts to be quite repetitive. The story wasn’t original per se, but I liked the plot twist. Even though it was quite predictable. The characters were also rather likeable and I might have fallen a bit for Alexander.
It started with friends with benefit but it became more for both.
Sabrina Ball, aka Brie, Cheese was getting ready for her wedding until her fiance leaves her for another women three weeks before the wedding. She never expected him to leave her so suddenly, she couldn't bounce back for a while. Her dating life was living vicariously through her close friends. She wasn't ready for any relationship but she felt she needed to release her energy.
Max aka Alexander, always had a big crush on Cheese "Brie". He met her when she was with his friend and he felt something with her but she was with his friend and their time didn't align. Now he finds out she is single, he wants to date her but when she says she doesn't want to date but she is willing to try friends with benefit. He couldn't let this opportunity pass so he agrees with this arrangement.
Brie and Max enjoys each other's company. When Max had to run to his beloved nana Dorothy, Brie showed totally different side and his grandma approved her as well.
However, their fun arrangement wasn't enough for Max and he wants more.. He thinks she is the one but he isn't sure she feels the same way. So he had to know if she is it like he is.. But get to that point won't be easy for both..
It was cute story of two people who really found their way to each other.. I loved their HEA.
Thanks to Netgalley and author for my ARC in exchange for honest review.
This is a sweet, sexy, fun read!
The characters really pull you in and make you keep wanting to read.
I was rooting for them through the whole book.
The author wrote a great book and can’t wait to read more from here soon.
Brie was home early from her job as a first tier accountant at the best accounting firm in town. She went to work for Letham and Steele three years ago. They were in the middle of a huge merger. But she was still an entry level and had a terrible boss and wished she had stayed with the firm who had hired her right out of college. Brie’s two best friends were Catelyn/Cate and Chelsea. Brie had been engaged to Grant but than three weeks before their wedding he had come home late and started packing his clothes saying he had met someone else and they were done, he was moving out. That was six months ago. Cate told her she needed to get laid. In truth Brie liked the idea of no-strings attached fun, but the thought of picking up total strangers puts her off. Max and Blake were training for the Monumental Marathon and they are best friends. Max shared a house with Leah who is gay. Max had lived with his girlfriend Audrey for about six months, he had been at a bachelor party in Vegas. He came home early to surprise her and found Audrey giving oral sex to her boss. Leah’s roommate had just moved out so max took her place. Max was saving to open his own bar and he was almost there so he had to live lean for awhile. Since he and Audrey broke up he couldn’t find anyone that interested him except for no strings sex. At some point he wanted more than just random women in his life. Chelsea and cate talk Brie into trying Tinder. She was messaging with three guys than one was just weird, and another sent her a penis shot and the left Ladd. Brie suggested they meet at the bar that Max worked out as he had told her if she had a problem they would help her all she had to do was go to the bar and ask for an angel shot. Ladd agreed to meet her. When Brie came back from going to the ladies' room Max was throwing out her drink and told Ladd to get out of the bar now. Max told Brie Ladd had put something in her drink and he seen it. Max had wanted to ask brie out but the time had never been right either he was with someone or she was. Brie doesn’t feel like going right home so Max takes her for coffee than they run into Grant her ex and Max tells her to follow him and they act like they are together. Grant was there with his pregnant girlfriend who apparently got pregnant when they would have been on their honeymoon. After leaving the bookstore Max takes her to the Waffle House for coffee and there they decide to be friends with benefits as Brie was ready for anything else but missed having sex and she knew Max. She was attracted to him had been for a long time but the time had never been right until now. Max takes her to her home and kisses her and their chemistry is hot.
I loved this book. I loved it’s pace and plot. I loved that Max tried to be patient with brie. I also loved that even though Brie hurt him by not turning to him, he stepped up to help her all that he could, to get her out of trouble that she was innocent of. I loved max and Brie together and how they interacted. I didn’t want to put this down. The sex scenes were hot. I was rooting for Max all the way through this book. He was just such a sweet kind man. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I highly recommend it.
The writing draws you in and keeps you involved throughout the whole story, I found myself in love with not only the characters but also the world that was created.
The descriptions of the characters and their feelings are so involved, you can truly picture it in your mind. Their attitudes toward the events that are happening makes the story even richer.
I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book was a lovely read and it was so easy to get through. The central characters were really nice and sympathetic and I couldn't read it fast enough. There was a good mixture of romance plus other storylines and I really enjoyed every single page.
This was an excellent read! The characters were well developed and easy to relate to and Max/Alex was a dream and what every story should have! I am looking forward to many more awesome reads from this author!
THE DATING ALTERNATIVE by Jennifer Woodhull was my very first read by this author and the story was really cute.
This book is a friends to lovers story, but it starts out as friends offering services so that things don't get cobwebs (if you know what I mean). Max and Brie have been friends for a while, having friends in common and being attracted to one another at the wrong time (one of them is always taken), but when Max finds out that Brie is finally available, but not looking for anything other than sex, he puts a plan into motion to give her some benefits. Brie only wants the benefits though and has placed Max in the friend zone.
Watching Max work to get Brie fall for him was what made this book good, he does whatever it takes to get out of the friend zone, but will he ever or is that where he is destined to stay forever?
THE DATING ALTERNATIVE was well worth the read, and I would give it 3/5 stars.
I enjoyed this light, sweet read but the hero and heroine were so similar I sometimes couldn't tell them apart.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
I rounded up the rating on The Dating Alternative because of the humor with which Jennifer Woodhull infused the story. The situations and machinations she dreamed up to have her hero try and move the heroine from friends with benefits to lovers were first rate. The characters were engaging, I especially developed a soft spot for our hapless hero. I was totally rooting for their happily ever after, and Ms Woodhull's story of their journey was entertaining and well written. I would definitely read more form Ms. Woodhull.
I received my copy through NetGalley under no obligation.
This is an unbelievably lovely, warm and sweet romance. But, it just didn't work for me. The characters were much too similar - Brie's fiance left her for another woman 6 months ago. Max caught his fiance cheating on him 7 months ago... While I like them both and wish them all the happiness in the world, their voices are nearly identical and I'm finding myself having to skim back to see who's thoughts I'm privy to at the moment.
I have definitely found a new favorite author! This book was so great. From the first word to the last, I was hooked.
Max and Brie were so great together. For years they had been aware of one another, but the timing was never right. When they finally have their moment, Brie has decided all she wants is a friends-with-benefits relationship, which Max agrees to in the hope he can turn it into more. The two end up becoming much more involved and Max is thrilled, while Brie is cautious. Their journey from friends to lovers to love was wonderful.
I just loved the writing, and the characters were so great. Max and Brie were adorable together. The secondary characters were interesting, too, and I’m hoping that the author will write their stories. I’ll definitely be reading them if she does.
Note: I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
I received a copy of this book from Xpresso book tours and Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
I am sorry to say this was a DNF for me. I just couldn’t get interested in the story. I enjoyed the male main lead but I found the female to be boring and I didn’t like the drugging of drinks and cheating
I would rate this as a 3.5. It was good but not great, with some tweaking could have been really good. This was my first read by this author and I would read more from her.
The Dating Alternative is a sweet and fluffy read. I thought this book was well developed and the characters were wonderful.

Cute 1-day read. Enjoyed the banter and friendship elements to this one. It’s well written and well thought out. Not my favorite from this author but a solid rom-com.
I loved this book! The characters were relatable and I absolutely loved the hero, Max. There was a twist that I definitely didn’t see coming since it didn’t follow the typical contemporary romance formula. It was also a quick read which I appreciated. I thought this was a fresh, fun read. I recommend it to anyone who loves friends to lovers romances and quick reads.
