this is an exciting read about rebels fighting against the evil government. it takes place in the near future. the rebels take plenty of chances, endure many losses, to try to get back the freedoms taken away from them.
I kind of dig the apocalyptic end of the world scenario books and this one was fun. Dragged a little slow at times but definitely has a pace that anyone can enjoy, not break neck speed or completely withering. Locations and scenes are vividly painted, giving detailed pictures of the surroundings. I give this one 4 stars bc I’m partial to the theme and it can hold up with the prominent characters.
I was entertained by Last Call. I must say that it made me think, as so many of the situations faced by the protagonists can be matched to things happening in our world today. The pacing gets a little uneven, which takes away from the suspense factor. The premise of Last Call is, as I mentioned, eerily prescient. I appreciated the way Debra Tash laid out the setting, detailed but so very realistic. I was on the edge several times as the plot twisted. Last Call is a very complex and layered story, and the author brought up many issues I wanted to debate and discuss. I think it might make a good book discussion selection.
I received my copy through NetGalley under no obligation.
Rebecca and Christina are two sisters we follow in this story of almost "end of times light". You will like the earthy style the writer uses that will enable you to see the book so to speak in your day to day surroundings but then sometimes the writing goes almost "Harlequin romance" for no rhyme or reason.
Pretty good book. Kept my interest throughout. A little more romance than I like. Still enough action and suspense to make it worthwhile.
America has come under martial law, with the government doing whatever it wants to, all in the name of supposedly doing what is best for the people. Two sisters, Rebecca and Christina, have been secretly living outside of the rules. They join a small band of people that fight to take America back in Debra Tash's Last Call America.
I wanted to like this book. The plot is interesting and the story moves along at a good pace. The characters are down to earth and are easy to relate to. There are plenty of details that let you imagine what is happening.
However, all of that is interspersed with foul language that I can't tolerate. I don't agree with using cuss words in stories, and I think that the book would be a lot better without them.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
Occasionally the pace slowed, once in awhile the characters’ survival pushed against believability, and there are clear political leanings in this book. But what an enjoyable read about an American government run amok. Would not be surprised to see this someday made into a movie! Well done!
