This book had a lot of mystery around it. What really happened between the two best friends all those years ago? After many years in a psychiatric hospital, the main character is looking for answers. Will she find them and at what cost?
I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.
Violet and her friend Ainsley went to have a night swim Ainsley disappeared and Violet was found wandering.
Violet is sent out of town to a mental institution since they can't charge her with murder because there no body to be found.
She spent ten years there now that she out she return to Alabama to collect a inheritance from her mother and to help her sister with their father.
When a body is found Violet has a chance to found out what really happen that summer night the ending was a bit slow and it was predictable but it was a great first book.
I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
Thanks NetGalley!
"Everyone thinks 14 year old Violet is a murderer. After a summer-night swim with her friend Ainsley, violet is found wandering the woods confused. And Ainsley's is never seen again. With no body, there cant' be a murder charge. So Violet is sent away. Violet spends ten years in an institution. She returns home to Alabama and collects her dead mom's inheritance. Violet endures flashbacks and hallucinations. Violet fights to keep her sanity until the truth can emerge from the "cold waters."
It was a solid read, BUT the ending was predictable...
It’s been 11 years since Ainsley disappeared and her best friend Violet stumbled out of the woods claiming to have no knowledge or memory of what happened to her friend. All the locals believe that Violet killed her friend, but now after years in a psych facility, Violet is back in Normal, Alabama to claim her mother’s inheritance and help her sister care for their dying father. When a skeleton is found in the nearby woods, speculation that Ainsley has at last been found reach a fever pitch as the truth about what really happened all those years earlier comes to light. I enjoyed this book, bu the ending was a little slow and readers will probably be able to predict the outcome
