I loved the play on gender in Risking It All. Women aren't expected to be the ones dreaming of a future in the military. We have a great example of a girl who's not going to let other people's ideas or preconceived notions deter her from her dreams. There's sexism in this book and Paige handles it really well. We also get to watch her realize that she can have a boyfriend and the future she's always dreamed of, without losing out on anything. This is just a beautiful example of a strong, independent woman and I think we need more of this in YA.
I didn't think I was going to like Logan at all. Even though we get to see things from his point of view, we warmed up to him slowly the way Paige did. I loved watching his back story unfold and seeing who he really was as a person. This was a great lesson in loyalty and what it really means to be a great friend.
I think the characterization in this book is amazing and I loved everything about it. It's a refreshing YA and I think it has a place on everyone's shelf.
