Quick read that sucked me in, but I can't say it blew me away. Just a weekend read with some interesting characters.

Natalie grew up with a dog named after Walter Cronkite and finds herself--at last--on the White House beat. The only problem is she still has to prove she is the most capable candidate for the job. It's too bad that hits too close to home in so many professions.

It felt too much like a YA novel. Cold not relate at all.to her problems. I think it needed more depth.

Savage News by Jessica Yellin was a book that I just wanted to keep reading. I read it in less than 24 hours, spending a lazy Sunday afternoon immersed in the behind the scenes at ATN. Natalie Savage is a strong and determined woman who knows what she wants. She has put her life pretty much on get it. This book made me laugh, it made me angry and I loved it.

Natalie Savage grew up knowing that she wanted to report the news. Finally after working so hard she is given the chance to work at the White House for ATN news. Only it is only temporary so she needs to prove herself. Her competition is a 26 year old frat boy who has the big guys at the network on side. Natalie and her production team are determined to make her the White House correspondent permanently but they need to compete with sexual discrimination, a ratings war and appearances just to name a few. The harder she works the more she wonders if it is all worth it.. are her family and relationships missin out for her career. A fantastic ending and an intriguing read.

Thanks to Harlequin MIRA US and Canada and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased

I’m a fan of News not Noise which made me interested in this book. I found it to be informative of how things work behind the cameras and a reminder of just how much sexism there is in workplaces. I really appreciate how she talks about this openly and honestly.

There wasn’t a ton of suspense to it which made the storyline a bit hard to get into. Possibly due to the writing style. I think this book would be well-suited for high school/ college students.

This book was all over the place. I’m familiar with Jessica Yellin, and was so excited about this book but it simply didn’t live up to what I thought a former reporter might put out. It was as if Jessica wanted to cram every single DC stereotype into a book (boring wardrobes! VIP scenes! Dogs names Colin Powell!), while also having multiple competing plot lines that never felt fleshed out. So many things felt like afterthoughts - the Xanax “addiction,” the sexual harassment undertones, the mom trying to play matchmaker - it never fully came together. That coupled with writing that felt like it could be cut down significantly made this not the best read. The story had potential, but unfortunately didn’t come through.

How much of this is thinly disguised biography? That's going to be the question for many readers. Yellin presents an ugly picture of the tv news business. Natalie wants to be the top dog but there's so many others snapping at her. This folds in numerous topical issues- the me too movement, reality tv, internal politics. Regrettably, Natalie isn't always sympathetic but that's ok because in real life we all have our moments. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. This would have benefited from a polish to tone it down a bit in spots and smooth some of the edges but it's still a good fast read.

Fun satire about the state of journalism and its focus on entertainment rather than actual reporting. Jessica Savage is a TV journalist who's been putting in the time waiting for her break. She's sacrificed time with family, friends, and relationships, and just when she is about to get her chance to shine, network management decides to pit her up against an entertainment journalist who's more style than substance. When the First Lady goes missing during a possible international incident, Jessica decides to do some actual investigative journalism while her rival reports whatever the powers that be tell him to - who's going to win?

This one's a quick read, a great conversation-starter about the state of journalism today, and Fake News in general.

2.5, rounded up because I decided not to finish this book, and I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt, that it gets better. The journalistic element intrigued me, but politics aren't a main interest of mine, so I think that coupled with my not taking to the character of Natalie resulted in my being disinclined to finish this book. It's not that the book is written poorly, but I think it falls short of its goal. Both the 'news' stories and the situation-- Natalie's being given a temporary position and pitted against another reporter-- felt contrived to me. The best part, in my opinion, was the storyline about the president's wife. Now that story, I would've read. I kept hanging on, hoping it would open up and focus on her, and maybe it would've, had I not put it down half way.

I have followed Jessica Yellin and News not Noise for about a year now and love her insight into what is happening in politics on a daily basis. That said, I was super excited to read her first novel!

I really enjoyed this novel. I loved that it was very topical but with a fictional storyline. I found myself rooting for Natalie but also getting furious for the insane amount of sexism and nonsense she had to deal with. Overall it felt very in line with current day and what is happening in government, but with fictional characters and storylines it made it much more enjoyable than watching and reading the news. I highly recommend this book!

I received an advanced copy in exchange of an honest review.

I requested this book because I was already a fan of Jessica Yellin and her reporting on Instagram. She is someone whose stories I look for every single day. When I heard she wrote a novel, I was so excited to read it. And I will say it did not disappoint! Yellin's novel is clever, fun, and very insightful into the world of DC reporting. I loved rooting for Natalie Savage in her quest to become a White House reporter and reading about her navigation of the particular struggles of being a woman in the field. You don't have to be a political person to enjoy this novel - the mystery and characters will keep you invested. I can't wait to continue raving about Jessica Yellin! I will be posting a review on my Instagram page (@the_infiniteTBR_list) at the end of March.

Jessica Yellin background in politics keeps this story read, honest and very human.

Natalie Savage is a weak character what slowly develops a back bone finding her voice in the world of news. The story is very much a chic lite story line where the lead woman slowly discovers who she is and what she wants to be in life.

The story pacing was off and at times extremely slow. I found some editing in certain areas would have help with the pacing as well as the dynamics between the different characters. Natalie Savage is working in one of the most cut throat fields in the world and yet she seems to be the biggest pushover which might have readers wondering how she got to D.C to cover the biggest stories.

The books wasn't great but it wasn't bad it fell right in the middle of being ok.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher MIRA for a advance copy of Jessica Yellin Savage News.

Savage News is a fun chick lit read. Natalie Savage wants to be a hard hitting big time reporter. The story depicts her journey through the treachery and obstacles of the news in today's world. It's really interesting to view the news from behind the scenes. The story is engaging, funny and intelligent. A woman never has it easy in a man's world or in a profession controlled mostly by men. Natalie navigates her way through a few good ole boys in her quest. She is a clever intuitive character, and she's a strong female lead. Will Natalie succeed? This is a good light read that I enjoyed. Thanks to NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.

hopefully the typos will be corrected before then. If you’re a fan of @jessicayellin you will enjoy this book as her voice is very strong throughout. The novel offers a behind the scenes look at news reporting in today’s cable news world - think Devil Wears Prada meets Newsroom. The issues addressed in the book feel very timely in terms of what’s going on in the world today - if only the current real life FLOTUS would speak up in a similar vein. I look forward to (hopefully) more breaking news stories from the Savage team in the future.

Savage News is a debut, and it shows based on the manic writing and the need for some tightening from an editor, but all in all, Savage News in an enjoyable read. It has this chick lit type Bridget Jones feel to it as we see Jessica try and navigate through the sometimes sketchy world of cable news. Jessica wants to be a hard hitting reporter, and thinks she can become that by being a White House correspondence. But the cable news networks she works for is all about ratings, and she has to compete against a shock jock type of reporter who will do anything to succeed. Plus the big guy who runs the station is too touchy feely where Jessica is concerned, and she is afraid she'll have to take the casting couch route with him in order to get ahead.

Jessica's tale is zany, at time hilarious and intriguing, especially the sub-plot with the First Lady who may or may not be having an affair, plastic surgery or working against her husband, the President of the US. Jessica has a group of co-workers who become her friends and want her to succeed. She also has a shot at romance with a dishy guy who's godfather is Colin Powell, who has also named his dog the same. He's a too good to be true Prince Charming for Jessica, who I didn't mind because he takes away the stress Jessica has to deal with on a daily basis with her job.

Jessica Yellin has a background in politics and the news since she was a WH correspondence. Even though Savage News is rough around the edges at time, it was a real hoot to read. I look forward to more books by her to see how she grows as an author.

Very interesting seeing the nuts and bolts of how network news gets produced. That sai, I found the main characters frivolous and distasteful. Natalie Savage is ambitious in the misogynistic and sexist world of DC. Most of the characters are similarly ambitious, narcissistic, and not very interesting beyond getting the next news story. There is a breakthrough story at the end of the book but by that time I was no longer interested.

Natalie Savage's dream is finally coming true, she is going to report the news from the White House. After years of hard work she's finally getting her shot but her shot is full of challenges. She has to navigate a new producer, a competition with an over grown frat boy, and a variety of men in power who want more than her reporting expertise. Is she willing to make the sacrifices the network expects or will she do it her own way?
